Ian Wright was fortunate to avoid serious injury after falling down the stairs on Monday night.

The Arsenal and England legend co-hosted the draw for the Women's Euros on Monday at the Swiss Tech Convention Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland, before disaster nearly struck.

Wright had to be helped by Italy and Germany legends Leonardo Bonucci and Sami Khedira after slipping on the stairs, according to the Daily Mail. The 61-year-old recently underwent knee surgery and was shaken up by the experience.

He was given an ice pack and escaped without serious injury. The much-loved pundit was able to fly back to Manchester as planned on Tuesday morning and is understood to be in good spirits.

Wright had underwent knee replacement surgery just seven weeks ago, which left him in a wheelchair. He was on his feet for a long time on Monday night while helping conduct the draw.

The former striker is known as a huge advocate of the women's game and was on hand to see England drawn in Group D alongside France, Wales and the Netherlands for Euro 2025. Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses are ranked fourth in the world and will be aiming to defend their title in Switzerland next summer.

Wright brushed off the accident with a post on Instagram in which he shared pictures from the event. He wrote: "Special night co-hosting the Euro 2025 draw with Annette Fetscherin. England drawn in Group D with France, Netherlands and Wales."

Posts on his Instagram story showed Wright grinning behind the scenes of the draw for the 16-team tournament, which will take place across eight venues in Switzerland from July 2 to 27 next year.

"The draw was nice. The group is tough! These are the facts and we knew how the pots were that it would be difficult anyway," said England manager Wiegman, who oversaw their memorable win in 2022.

"The women's game is developing so quickly so I don't think there are easy things any more. We have to be ready for every single game. The women's game has changed. Before we went to the qualifiers for the World Cup, it was kind of easy.

"Sometimes you could predict if you were going to win. In sport it's really good when it's unpredictable because that's the exciting bit about it."
