This man claims he has good reason for selling his girlfriend's Taylor Swift tickets.
Taylor Swift wrapped up her lengthy Eras tour earlier this week in Vancouver, Canada, and for those in attendance, it was a show they won't forget in a hurry. But one woman has been left heartbroken as she never got the chance to see her favourite artist live - because her boyfriend sold their tickets.
The man, however, has insisted he had a very good reason for getting rid of the two tickets he paid $800 (£442) for, because he recently discovered his girlfriend had been hiding a huge secret from him. He claimed that what he uncovered left him feeling so betrayed that he "couldn't stomach the thought" of attending the concert with her.
In a post on Reddit, the man said his girlfriend has been a "massive fan" of Taylor Swift for as long as he's known her. He knew the concert would "mean the world to her," so when he had some money, he decided to surprise her with tickets.
However, he recently discovered something that has changed his opinion of his partner - as she's been sending "flirty messages" to her colleague for months. When he confronted her, she admitted they had been having an "emotional affair" and had even "kissed several times".
He wrote: "Last week, I discovered she'd been secretly meeting up with her 'work friend' for months. I found out because she accidentally left her Instagram DMs open on my laptop (she'd been using it to print something), and I saw weeks of flirty messages and plans to meet up. When I confronted her, she tried to deny it at first but eventually admitted they'd kissed several times and had been having an emotional affair.
"I was devastated. These tickets were meant to be a special experience for us, and I couldn't stomach the thought of taking her after this betrayal. Rather than let them go to waste, I decided to sell them. Given how insane the Taylor Swift ticket market was, I managed to sell them for $2,400 (£1,330) - triple what I paid.
The man said his girlfriend "completely lost it" when she found out what he had done, telling him he had "ruined her dream" and that the tickets were a "gift" so they should belong to her. However, he believes he should be able to do what he wants with tickets he bought, especially after she cheated on him.
Commenters on the post were largely on the man's side too, with many saying her affair wasn't just emotional if she kissed the other man. However, some said he should have offered to sell them to her before taking them to the online market, so that she could still attend without him.
One person said: "It wasn't an emotional affair if they were kissing. It was an actual affair. If you still took her to a concert after she had an affair with someone else, THAT would be weird. You should move on and let her have her new relationship out in the open and let THAT person buy her Swift tickets."
Another added: "The tickets were a gift meant for a special experience together, and her betrayal completely changed that. You had every right to sell them since you paid for them, and she broke your trust. It's understandable that she's upset, but her actions led to this situation."
