Whirly Fly Guys[1] are a rare variety of Fly Guy found in platform games starring Yoshi. They debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
History[edit]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]
Whirly Fly Guys are depicted in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake as flashing between several colors. A Whirly Fly Guy is on the ground at first, but starts to fly off slowly when approached. A Whirly Fly Guy cannot be stomped, though it can be swallowed and then spit out to become a green Shy Guy. Whirly Fly Guys are resistant to eggs, as each time a Yoshi either throws one or spits a watermelon seed at a Whirly Fly Guy, a coin appears from it, until the Whirly Fly Guy is hit by enough projectiles, defeating it and earning the player one or two extra lives.
Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]
Whirly Fly Guys reappear in Yoshi Touch & Go. They behave a lot different, hiding in the gross and zooming off into the sky when approached instantly. A Whirly Fly Guy is worth four points if defeated.
Yoshi's New Island[edit]
In Yoshi's New Island, Whirly Fly Guys have a white robe and no longer flash between colors. One is located toward the end of Cave of the Nipper Plants. A Whirly Fly Guy flies away vertically when approached, though the player can earn lives each time they hit the Whirly Fly Guy with an egg until it is defeated.
