Не знаю, имхо первые 2 альбома очень интересные в музыкальном плане, вот как-то дальше уже не цепляло конечно.

he's been like that for a long time. anonymous was more or less his last good album. he's overworked now and hasn't put out anything worthwhile since.

I think Tonic Immobility is a great album. Sounds like the first (2001) album, but way more mature. They're all playing it straight, no theatrics. It suits Dunn's style, and Patton did a great job fitting into that, moving his extremes into more subtle effects (like inflection). I like the album a lot.

not big on the recent singles, but given that it looks like Denison will be writing most of the music instead of Patton, here's hoping the next album is good. Patton has been on a downward spiral since the early 10s.

Anyone heard any updates on a new album? I remember reading at the end of last year in an interview with Mike that Duane was writing new songs and that they should be getting together to record sometime this year, but since then nothing. But then again, Oddfellows kind of came out of nowhere, so maybe the new album will too. I'm curious to see how they follow up on that one. It wasn't a bad record by any means, but for me was a bit of a letdown after the high bar they'd set with the first three.

I listened to a podcast with Duane this year (2020) and he said that it was mostly recorded and it sounds like they're waiting for Patton to have some time to do vocals but he's been super busy with Bungle and there's a new Dead Cross coming out at some point too, but with COVID I'm thinking the earliest will be at some point in 2021 or possibly later, depending on if they want to tour behind it or not and what everyone's schedules look like (I think John is probably going to tour with Battles as well whenever touring is a thing again).

Debut record being the highest played... is a rare instance where I agree that should be #1. I love the production of "Mit Gas" but don't feel it had the same cohesiveness that "Tomahawk" had... difficult to compare "Anonymous" to their other albums... I actually thought "Oddfellows" had some good writing but they tracked that in 6-days & had it had better production like those 1st 2 or 3 albums... it could've been a "classic" or one that left more impression in the back of one's mind.

Like the debut, but I feel like Mit Gas blows it out of the water. The sonics are much better (not that the mix, production, etc on the self-titled are bad, but god does Mit Gas sound fantastic) and the songwriting, IMO, is better and makes much better use of the various band members' considerable talents, particularly Kevin Rutmanis who gets some nice moments to shine here whereas on the debut he basically could've been replaced by anyone without it making much difference to the finished product, presumably because rather than these being songs Duane Denison wrote and then mailed to the other guys they worked on the Mit Gas songs from the ground up, honed many of them to perfection on the road ("Birdsong" and "Mayday" were both being played as early as their first tour back in 2001). Anonymous is bizarre and I really like it a lot but you're right, it has virtually nothing to do with the other stuff, and honestly Oddfellows hasn't made a huge impression on me at all. Not awful though.

Underrated by whom? Pretty much every music publication that has reviewed Tomahawk's albums has given them positive notices. Anonymous is the only one that received a mixed reception.
