Was addicted in 2008, but now i haven't listened since 2017. Just don't have it in me to reopen those old wounds and go back to listening to any of Serj's solo stuff.

Once, back in 2012, I was at his concert with the “Orca” program together with the symphony orchestra in Krasnoyarsk. It so happened that after the concert there was an autograph session, I decided to stop by and thank you for the concert, and at the same time get a signature on the flyer. Already almost in front of Serge, I discover that the flyer has disappeared somewhere and there is nothing on which he could physically sign, except for Berdyaev’s volume “Self-Knowledge”, which was lying in my bag. Having taken it out, I didn’t even have time to utter a word when Serge shouted: “it's for me?” I couldn’t refuse, so Tankian went on tour with Berdyaev, and I left with a good story.

serj wasn't entirely the cause of SOAD's amazing ass music definitely but you are kidding yourself if you are saying the band would have been nearly as good as it was without his voice

I think the reason their first 3 albums are more beloved than the last 2 might have something to do with the fact that Serj had more creative input on the early albums

I will always go to bat for his solo albums + orca + jazz iz christ (and I think that stuff doesn't get anywhere near the recognition it deserves) but all of the material he's been putting out more recently has been Not Good. except for the new SOAD songs those were nice.

His period from the selftitled SOAD up to Jazz-Iz-Christ is phenomenal and should be enough to lump him in with the greatest. Almost every artist falls off at some point. The last 2 rock oriented eps were letdowns for sure, but his soundtrack work has been pretty interesting though. Even that weird collab with Jimmy Urine was quite entertaining. It must be tiring making this much great music and people still mostly talk about System. Go Serj!

According to Google Trends, Last.fm reached its peak popularity in early 2009. As a result of this, albums from that era are usually the ones with the most listeners. Serja Tankian's popularity peaked in October 2007 and never got even close since then. Combine both things and you have your answer.
