Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Great action but...
It was a great action flick that didn't seem as long as the run time, so that is always a plus. The writing however could have been better.
When you build characters over multiple movies you don't cast them aside so easily. Its an insult to fans who pay to go see your movies.
It's not even the fact that Ilsa dies in this one but its the fact that someone shows up and just after a day we are supposed to believe that Ethan has a hard time deciding who to save? Nope you draw a smarter audience then this. If anything it should have come down to Luther, Benji, and Ilsa...you know the family Ethan has been with for a while now.
I'm still hopeful it was all a ruse and she is indeed alive. That could only explain the way it was written. Now I thought Hayley did a great job and I liked her character but it was the writing with the relationship between the team that it was hard to believe. Again if it was all a ruse and the second part has some incredible action like this one and brings both movies together with a better understanding then I will go back and change my rating of an 8. Actually more like a 7.5 but with IMDB its 7 or 8 and its better than a 7.
La Brea (2021)
Wanted to like it from the previews...
But it was just so bad we were actually making jokes throughout the first episode. The writing was so bad the actors suffered. I've read reviews from others about bad acting and that was my first take as well. However I've seen some of them in other shows that they did well, so I can't say bad acting but instead just really poorly written material. And the CGI was so bad it felt worse than a C movie on the Syfy network. I guess it's probably a good thing I'm not getting hooked on this show because these are the types of shows we see year after year that hook you in and then the networks cancels them and we never see a finished story.
