Shadow and Bone (2021)
Unexpectedly loved it.
The first episode didn't particularly grab me and I thought perhaps I should have read the books first, but I continued watching just to see how it played out and I'm so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and was disappointed to find the series only had 8 episodes (I mistakenly thought it had 10) because I would have loved more! This is obviously based on YA fiction so maybe not for everyone but definitely worth watching and sticking it out past the first episode or two if you decide to try it, it may surprise you too.
Summer of Rockets (2019)
Excellent until the last episode
This series had so much potential but the ending was ridiculous and the explanations to various events (such as the missing son) were completely unbelievable. Such a shame as the story was excellent up until the end and the actors and setting were wonderful but all was ruined by the bizarre ending.
Virgin River (2019)
Feel good
Sometimes you just need a comforting watch, something that isn't trying to preach at you but is easy going and makes you feel good. This is exactly what this show is.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Fun and entertaining
This film is visually beautiful, good fun, and well acted. Had I seen the IMDb score before watching it I would have probably skipped this one, glad I didn't!
The Luminaries (2020)
So glad I ignored the reviews and gave this a chance!
The Daily Mail gave this series a bad review for being difficult to understand and The Guardian gave it a good review, that told me all I needed to know about whether I was likely to enjoy it or not and I'm glad I gave it a chance.
I didn't find the story hard to follow at all, it jumps between time but it's not difficult to keep up with. Visually it's stunning and the story is interesting and unique, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am considering reading the book.
