I admit the movie is bad, but I watched it a million times as a kid. Nostalgic.

Some of the images Alisattar Atakishiyev finds are superb: a road, old Baku, life in Azerbaijan SSR, pulsing moon reflected in a pool of water. It is poetic film-making.
It is a film whose unhurried pace must be allowed to grow on you, but once it has, there is something engrossing about the tragedy of Khan, slowly and indirectly before our eyes.
It all adds up to an affectingly truthful movie that touches the heart as it holds a historic mirror up to reality, enriching the traditions of homegrown Azerbaijani drama. A film with a very high likability factor.
