Haskiri Velazquez
- Actress
- Producer
It's no surprise that Haskiri Velázquez acquired the "do it myself" attitude. Growing up in Washington Heights NY, she didn't have the resources she needed to readily succeed in her career, but she never gave up. With many acting and theater pursuits outside of school, Haskiri attended a non-profit organization called Urban Arts Partnership, where she enrolled in their Lifestories Theater program. Her passion for and dedication to acting was evident from the beginning. She would have busy school days and auditions during the week and during the weekends she would attend theater classes for at least 6 hours a day. This required a two-hour subway ride to and from her home every day.
Haskiri was in many black-box productions at Theater Row in Times Square and even at the Lucille Lortel Theater with the Lifestories program, where she quickly captured audiences. During this time, Haskiri also had the opportunity to be directed by Gina Rodríguez, Jesse Williams, and Victor Maog.
She may have started off as a "theater kid", but it wasn't long after graduating the Lifestories program that she transitioned into TV/film. Her first on-screen role was 'Tatiana García' in NYC 22. From that moment on, it was clear how much the camera loved her, which director David Rambo mentioned to her father.
Since then, Haskiri has gone on to play roles such as 'Shyvon Stevens' in Law & Order SVU (NBC), as 'Charlotte', a recurring character for The Birch (Facebook Watch), guest starred as 'Melissa Rodríguez' on Blue Bloods (CBS), played 'Rosa' in the feature film, The Forty-Year-Old Version, which premiered at Sundance 2020, and later debuted on Netlflix. Roles to follow have been the lead character, 'Daisy', in the Saved By The Bell reboot and also as 'Ava' in the 2021 Lifetime movie, You're Not Safe Here.
Haskiri has plans to start her own non-profit, with the goal and hope to inspire other Latin× to keep pursuing their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. She also hopes to see an increase in on-screen roles for her fellow Latin× in general, and that they will be both respectful and an accurate representation of the Latin× community.
Haskiri Velazquez brings passion and many gifts to the acting profession and her future and career look very bright.
