Severin Films has announced the upcoming release of the Russ Meyer Vixen Trilogy on Blu-ray and Uhd, bringing together three of Meyer’s most provocative works – Vixen, Supervixens, and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens – in meticulously restored 4K editions. The release, scheduled for 27th January 2025, offers a treasure trove of special features spanning nine hours of new and archival content, in partnership with The Russ Meyer Charitable Trust and the Museum of Modern Art.

Known for his boundary-pushing approach, Meyer’s films tackled provocative themes, blurring the lines between art and exploitation and facing intense censorship battles. The Vixen Trilogy release honours Meyer’s legacy as an independent film pioneer, with Severin’s David Gregory describing it as “a celebration of Meyer’s unyielding creative spirit, his fight for artistic freedom,...

One aspect that helped Spider-Man pop off in the 60s was his everyday struggles, which helped fans relate to the character, and it soon became the defining aspect of the character. Moreover, this core theme was beautifully translated into the big screen, thanks to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, which didn’t drop the ball while showcasing a hero’s struggle with responsibilities.
However, in the Tom Holland-led trilogy, the personal struggles of the character were sidelined after the first film, as being part of the MCU, the character had bigger problems to worry about. But it appears that the MCU is planning to go back to the character’s roots with the upcoming installment.

Amy Jade Winehouse could have been any young woman growing up in 1990s London — palling around with her mates, sneaking lagers, shagging dudes, getting into trouble, getting her nose pierced, and getting expelled from drama school for it. (That, and a few other reasons.) Until she opened her mouth, at which point she seemingly became possessed by a 1940s jazz chanteuse channeling centuries-old lust and sorrow. Winehouse went from a kid with a bluesy, contralto wail that almost felt like a parlor trick, considering that it was coming from a tiny white teen from Southgate,...

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road spent so much time in development that its previous star, Mel Gibson, seemingly got too old for the action role. Gibson was replaced by Tom Hardy in the 2015 film, which went on to become one of the greatest action films of all time. Fans always wondered whether the Og Max Rockatansky would meet with the new one in any of the future installments. Miller confirmed that it wouldn’t happen and had a perfectly valid reason for it.

Sunday saw the 96th Annual Oscars ceremony broadcast live across the world, and for UK audiences it saw the show broadcast on ITV. There is lots to be said about this year’s Oscars, from winners and losers, to poor broadcasting panels – it is safe to say the award season gave us everything we’re used to.
For the UK the show has found a new home. Previously playing exclusively on Sky, this year it was broadcast by ITV. The US Oscars broadcast might have gone down a treat, but ITV’s coverage in the UK has made the internet a bit cross. What could happen differently next year?
The 96th Academy Awards seems to have gone down rather well. Nobody hit anyone. Every envelope seemed to have the right name in it. The cameras were generally pointing in the right direction. High fives all round, I say.
Unfortunately for ITV – who nabbed the UK broadcast rights off Sky, who’ve held them since 2004 – when the actual ceremony seems to be going down well, it throws the shortfalls of UK coverage into the spotlight.
Jonathan Ross took on hosting duties alongside a panel including The Hobbit star Richard Armitage, radio and documentary presenter Yinka Bokinni, actress Fay Ripley and comedian/critic Ben Bailey Smith. It was, with the best will in the world, a bizarre mix; all four seemed...

Last year’s show on Sky averaged 95,000 viewers while a highlights cut the following evening garnered 141,000.

In Italy live Oscars telecast scored a roughly 15% audience share on state broadcaster Rai’s flagship Rai-1 station with a peak of 1.9 million viewers, according to national ratings compiler Auditel. Should any Americans be concerned following the Academy Awards ceremony, no, they haven’t missed Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day in the U.S. is still May 12, a good two months away. In the U.K., however, it was the night of the Oscars, March 10 — and given the number of Brits that took to the stage to give acceptance speeches and thank their mothers, it’s understandable if many viewers stateside got confused (and a little panicked).
Regardless, for a period of time on Sunday night, it looked like the Oscars were going to be a solely U.K. affair.
Back-to-back craft wins for “Poor Things” saw a steady procession of Brits take to the stage at the Dolby Theater, including Holly Waddington (best costume design), Nadia Stacey, Mark Couler and Josh Weston (best makeup and hairstyling) and James Price and Shona Heath.
Then there was one of the night’s biggest below-the-line shocks,...

Oscars coverage in the UK was free-to-air last night for the first time in two decades but ITV’s coverage was slammed on social media for insensitivity and a lack of critical expertise.
The L.A. ceremony was watched by a peak of almost 1M UK viewers and a 630,000 average from its 10.15 p.m. GMT start time until the early hours of the morning but audiences took to X to make their complaints heard.
Deadline revealed ITV had scooped Oscars rights from Sky last year and the coverage was helmed by British broadcaster Jonathan Ross, who was joined by a panel made up of The Hobbit actor Richard Armitage, radio and documentary presenter Yinka Bokinni, actress Fay Ripley and comedian/critic Ben Bailey Smith.

The actor and Baftas host answers your questions about facial hair, Doctor Who, Scrooge McDuck – and growing up as the son of a minister
How do you face the challenge of being this year’s Bafta host? practicalpanic
I don’t currently feel particularly challenged because everything’s written down for me and I don’t have to worry about winning – or not winning – an award. If it was the first night of a play, I’d be curled up in a corner in the foetal position. But the fact that it’s not my day job certainly feels liberating. Who knows why they asked me; I must have been pretty far down the list. Expectations are pretty much zero. I don’t have anything to prove. Will I be phoning [previous Bafa hosts] Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry for advice? I might do. But I’m travelling in blissful ignorance at the moment.

Get your questions in (quickly) for the host of this year’s Baftas, the star of stage and screen who’s played everyone from Dennis Nilsen to Scrooge McDuck
The high point of the British film industry’s year, the Bafta film awards, returns on Sunday 18 February. The longlist has already been announced, with Killers of the Flower Moon, Barbie and Oppenheimer leading the count, and the contenders for the rising star award have also been revealed.
Hosting the event is a plum job, with Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry having had the longest stints, dominating most of the 00s and 10s. But everyone from Terry Wogan (minus his Blankety Blank microphone on a stick) to (raises an eyebrow) Roger Moore to (somehow) Noel Edmonds have put on their very best DJs and had their eyes tested to double check they can read the teleprompter.

Lily Allen is calling out Russell Brand for a rape joke made at her expense between himself, Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding and Jonathan Ross.
The 38-year-old “Smile” singer recalled the moment on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year in 2007.
At the start of the show, Jonathan moved Lily, “the only sexually attractive young lady” on the panel, away from panelists Russell and Noel Fielding to the “sexless zone,” saying it was to protect her.
Keep reading to find out more…
“And then Lily may go home with her dress still on,” Jonathan said, to which The Great British Bake Off co-host responded: “How dare you – we’re not rapists.”
Jimmy then asked why he was wearing a cape “if [he] wasn’t a rapist,” with Noel explaining that his cape was actually a Jack the Ripper cape.
“He wasn’t a rapist, he was a…” Noel replied, before Russell added: “Serial murderer.

Kutcher and Heigl first collaborated on the 2010 feature Killers. The rom-com was about a wife who discovers that Kutcher’s character is a secret agent on his 30th birthday. Seeing as they portrayed a couple in the feature, Heigl and Kutcher both had to perform a love scene. At the time, this might not have been an issue for Heigl. Especially since the Knocked Up star immediately fell for Kutcher’s charm and looks. At times, Heigl wasn’t sure she was even acting out her attraction towards her co-star.

Emily Blunt has apologized for an insensitive comment she made in a 12-year-old interview.
Blunt has recently received a lot of online criticism in response to her calling a waitress “enormous.”
She has since responded to her comments during the talk show appearance.
“I just need to address this head-on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12 years ago. I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show,” Blunt said.
“I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for,” she added. “And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.

Britney Spears has written about her controversial conservatorship in her upcoming memoir, including the fact that she tried to speak about it on a TV chat show in 2016 – but her comments never made it to air.
In her forthcoming book, The Woman in Me, Spears writes: “I even mentioned the Conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air. Huh. How interesting.”
Now the UK’s Sun newspaper reports that the show in question was the British presenter Jonathan Ross’s chat show, where Spears appeared in 2016 to discuss her ninth album Glory.
The newspaper reports that members of the live audience heard Spears tell the host about her album:
“I have this conservatorship for years and I felt like a lot of decisions were made for me, so I wanted this to be my baby and I’ve been really strategic about it.

Exclusive: Russell Brand’s last major television job in the UK ended with him being dropped after he was repeatedly accused of being a “sexual predator” during the recording of the show.
Brand was booked as a judge on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle in 2018, but only lasted a single season on the series after he himself was roasted on-camera over allegations he had sexually assaulted women. He strongly denies criminal wrongdoing.
Three sources close to the Fulwell 73 production said Roast Battle judge Katherine Ryan turned the heat on Brand a number of times during filming. Her allegations did not make the final edit.

Its reviews section displays favorable quotes from talk show host and writer Ross and actor-director Ayoade, who starred in The It Crowd between 2006 and 2013. Other advocates include author John Boyne, anti-trans journalist Helen Joyce, comic Simon Evans and British TV director Lissa Evans.
Ross was quoted saying the book is “one of the most compelling and unflinchingly honest memoirs I’ve read in many years. It’s also the funniest,...
