There was a time when TV guest stars were pure magic, popping up like hidden gems in your favorite shows.
Long before social media spoiled every surprise, guest appearances felt like little events that brought something extra to our screens.
You’d be watching a familiar show, and out of nowhere, a face you knew and loved would walk on, adding an unexpected thrill to the episode.
Mark Harmon on The Love Boat (ABC/Screenshot)
These weren’t ratings gimmicks or social media stunts; they were genuine surprises that made TV feel alive and unpredictable.
For me, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island were cozy weekend rituals, especially when I watched with my grandma.
It wasn’t about knowing every guest star — it was about the fun of seeing who would pop up next, making each episode feel like a surprise package.

It’s been seven months since former mommy vlogger Ruby Franke was sentenced to four consecutive one-to-15-year prison terms after pleading guilty to four counts of child abuse. Remember Green Day’s catchy tune, Nice Guys Finish Last? Well, if you need proof, just look at Tom Cruise striking out on a date in his prime! Who would’ve thought that the man who can bring enemies to their knees couldn’t get Heather Locklear to swoon?
Indeed, from rescuing his partner on-screen as Maverick in Top Gun or performing jaw-dropping stunts as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible, one would think that wooing a lady would be part and parcel of Cruise’s repertoire.

But even the most charming leading men trip over their words. The actor has had three marriages. Oh, and let’s not forget his list of high-profile romances, like those with Cher and Locklear. But hold your horses; let’s talk about that time he crashed and burned on his first date with the latter.

At 90s Con in Daytona Beach, Heather Locklear dug into her ’80s TV past with some revealing takes on what it was like to work on T.J. Hooker and Dynasty at the same time, which men from her past deserve a kiss (and which deserve a slap), and her early experience with Tom Cruise. Working on T.J. Hooker and Dynasty At the Same Time (c)Columbia Pictures Television/courtesy Everett Collection Locklear’s epic run as a TV star started with Dynasty in 1981, where she played Sammy Jo. In 1982, she joined the second season of William Shatner’s T.J. Hooker as Officer Stacy Sheridan. From 1982 to T.J. Hooker’s cancellation in 1986, Locklear filmed the shows simultaneously, traveling from set to set during the day. “They’d drive me,” said Locklear. “I’d be in my police uniform, padded bra, all that s***, and then I’d have to be all glammed up,...

James Darren, the wildly diverse singer-actor who scored Billboard hits and was featured in everything from Gidget to Tj Hooker to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away. He was 88.
Although James Darren got his career going in the late ‘50s, he found entirely different audiences beginning in the ‘80s by co-starting on the William Shatner-led police drama T.J. Hooker, in which he played officer Jim Corrigan, who primarily partnered with Heather Locklear’s Stacy Sheridan.
The following decade, James Darren was able to combine his crooning and acting skills, landing the role of holographic singer Vic Fontaine in seasons six and seven of Deep Space Nine. The role was originally offered to Frank Sinatra Jr., but he turned it down. Darren himself wasn’t entirely convinced it would work, either, but the character ended up being a fan favorite and a trademark role for Darren, who not...

James Darren, the former teen idol and pop singer who played the dreamy surfer Moondoggie in three Gidget movies before starring on television on The Time Tunnel and T.J. Hooker, died Monday. He was 88.
Darren died in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his son Jim Moret, a correspondent for Inside Edition, told The Hollywood Reporter. He had entered the hospital for an aortic valve replacement but was deemed too weak to have the surgery; he went home but had to return.
“I always thought he would pull through,” Moret said, “because he was so cool. He was always cool.”
Early in his career, the dark-haired Darren received excellent notices for starring in Let No Man Write My Epitaph (1960) — portraying the son of a hoodlum defended by Humphrey Bogart’s character in 1949’s Knock on Any Door — and for playing the Greek soldier Spyros Pappadimos in The Guns of Navarone...

George Burns sure told a lot of jokes over the course of his long career. Not too many comedians can claim that they performed in the heyday of Vaudeville and hawked Little Caesars pizza to a generation of ‘80s kids who only knew him as “God.”
Amazingly, Burns’ final witticism was made postmortem. Yup, Burns somehow squeezed in one last joke after his death — and it also happened to be about his own death.
In 1996, Burns died following an acute case of being really, really old. Technically, it was due to heart failure, but he lasted until the ripe old age of 100. And it’s a good thing, too, considering that Burns literally wrote a book called How to Live to be 100 — Or More in 1983.
When he turned 100, Burns was asked what his doctor had to say about the fact that he still smoked 10 to 15 cigars a day and regularly indulged in martinis.

Lisa Rinna Would Return To Her Old TV Stomping Grounds
For years, Lisa Rinna was known for stirring up trouble while telling women they looked gorgeous on Rhobh. She started in Season 5 and exited after Season 12 which was admittedly her roughest season. During the year, her mother, Lois, passed away and that caused her to lash out in ways she never had. It all culminated with an awful trip to Aspen with her co-stars where Kathy Hilton went on a rampage. After the season ended, Lisa opted to exit the series but this was not her first go-round.

In the early 90s, producer Aaron Spelling and TV creator Darren Star struck primetime drama gold with the high school soap opera Beverly Hills 90210. The show laid the groundwork for some good old-fashioned scheduled viewing for homes waiting to see what kinds of trouble the kids at West Beverly would get into. While the series would get to put its characters in some compromising situations like Brandon’s gambling, Brenda‘s pregnancy scare, Dylan’s drug use or Donna Martin graduating, Spelling would explore more steamy stories with the spin-off Melrose Place. The show would crossover stars as Beverly’s Dylan and Kelly befriended Melrose resident Jake. And when Heather Locklear was added to the cast, the show’s popularity would skyrocket.

Melrose Place, which featured one of the most dramatic apartment complexes in TV history, could be opening its doors again.
Deadline is reporting that a reboot of the sudsy Fox primetime soap opera has entered development.
The good news is that many original stars have already been approached to return.
Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, and Daphne Zuniga are already attached to the project, meaning that if the show gets a formal green light, we’ll be returning to WeHo with some familiar faces.
Melrose Place, a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210, aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999.
A reboot premiered on The CW 10 years later but was canceled after an 18-episode run.
Is Sydney Andrews returning from the dead again?
Given that Leighton is returning, it seems the new take would disregard the failed 2009 reboot because her character, Sydney Andrews, was killed off on the series premiere.

Darren Starr's primetime soap opera "Melrose Place" debuted on July 8, 1992, initially sold as a spinoff of the ultra-hot "Beverly Hills 90210." The series followed the denizens of the titular apartment complex, said to be located at 4616 Melrose in West Hollywood, California. "Melrose Place" was a massive success and was replete with all the sex, angst, and topical interpersonal drama that typically appeared in a TV series produced by Aaron Spelling. The show lasted seven seasons and 226 episodes. "Melrose Place" birthed a spinoff in 1995 called "Models, Inc." and was revived (with a new cast of characters) for an additional season in 2009.
On "Melrose Place," actor and professional soccer player Andrew Shue played Billy Campbell, an aspiring screenwriter, cab driver, ad executive, or newspaperman, depending on what season you're watching. Billy had romantic dalliances and/or married multiple "Melrose" characters, most notably Alison (Courtney Thorne-Smith), but also Amanda (Heather Locklear), Brooke (Kristen Davis), who died tragically,...

NCIS star Mark Harmon and his partner Michael Weatherly were able to dig deep into their characters on a special NCIS episode. But Weatherly quipped that the best part about the occasion was getting rough with Harmon.

Weatherly and Harmon were both allowed to get pretty physical with each other as their NCIS characters. In one of the show’s episodes “Baltimore,” the series took a step backwards to explore the history of Weatherly’s Tony Dinozzo. The series was already in its eighth season back then, so Harmon felt NCIS put in enough legwork over the years to explore characters’ backstories.
“By the time we started doing flashbacks, which was a number of years in, we’d earned it. Certainly as an actor you have more to grip on to,” Harmon once told TV Guide.

NCIS fans can’t wait to hear more about season 21 — though, of course, they miss Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon left the series in season 19. There have been various reasons for his departure, and he opened up about his choice in late 2023. Here’s what he said about feeling “tired” after the show.
Mark Harmon said he was ‘just tired’ after finishing his tenure with ‘NCIS’
Mark Harmon stood firm with NCIS since its premiere in 2003. The show creators weren’t sure they could get Harmon on board at first, so they made alternative plans if he didn’t accept their offer. Thankfully, Harmon was ready to join the team as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He made a tremendous impact on the military police procedural.
So, why did Harmon call it quits on the show? At the time, he hoped to focus on other creative endeavors and his family.

Looney Tunes is not leaving Max after all. The streamer had released a list that included the classic cartoons leaving the platform in December.
Max has since revised their “What’s New on Max This December” press release.

An outcry from fans of the show followed on social media after believing Bugs Bunny and his friends would not live on the streaming platform anymore.
The error comes a couple weeks after Wbd announced it would be scrapping the already-completed Coyote Vs. Acme for a tax writeoff. The David Zaslav-run company reconsidered the decision after fan backlash and set up screenings for streamers who might want to buy it.

While Carrie Bradshaw is the main character in Sex and the City, her three best friends are also major players in the series. Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), a lawyer, didn’t take anyone’s crap, especially not men. Samatha Jones (Kim Cattrall) lived her life fabulously and out loud, doing who and what she wanted — when she wanted. Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) was always the more traditionally-minded friend on Sex and the City. While Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Samatha Jones (Kim Cattrall) often embraced their singleness, Charlotte was determined to get her husband and children.
Interestingly enough, Davis was initially asked to audition for the role of Carrie. However, the actor quickly discovered that Charlotte would be a much better fit for her.

Dynasty was the quintessential ’80s primetime soap opera. Millions tuned in weekly to see the glitz, the glamour, the backstabbing, and the shoulder pads. ABC aired the series from 1981 to 1989. It was so popular that music icon Prince mentioned it in his song “Kiss.” The lyrics, “You don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude,” were a sign of the times. The nighttime soap earned a Golden Globe nomination yearly from 1981 to 1986, winning in 1983. And in 2017, The CW revived the series with a new cast. So, which original Dynasty cast members are still alive?
