✦Skyler x 2

Skyler is the second pattern in the Stripology Quickies quilt along! It's the same block in two different layouts. They look quite different from each other. I couldn't decide which version to make, so I made them both!
Quilt Info #1:
Pattern: Skyler from Stripology Quickies by GE Designs
Fabrics: Reef by "love from beth x" from Makower UK
Size: 60" x 75"
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton Supreme
Thread: Glide--Aqua
Pantograph: Wavy Sea ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
This fabric line is called "Reef" and looks like coral reefs, sea urchins and seaweed, so I quilted it with "Wavy Sea"!
For a throw size, the pattern calls for 20 different fabrics. Besides the Reef fabrics, I added in some blenders.
This is my current favorite color combo--turquoise and fuchsia!!!
The backing is one side of an IKEA duvet cover.⤵️ The other half will be used on a future quilt back. IKEA always has large, unusual graphic designs!
Quilt Info #2:
Pattern: Skyler 2.0 from Stripology Quickies by GE Designs
Fabrics: Japanese prints from Mabuchi in Sendai, Japan
Size: 60" x 81"
Batting: Quilters Dream Poly Deluxe
Thread: Glide--Putty
Pantograph: Curly Weave ⤵️ from Intelligent Quilting
I set this quilting design quite large to go along with the large blocks.
This version of the pattern has been said to look like corn stalks. To me, it looks like heads of wheat.
I altered my layout a bit--I took the half block from the top and moved it to the bottom to complete the block, and added plain squares to the top and bottom.
For backing, I went through my leftover strips from previous backings and pieced them all together. These are all Japanese prints, also.⤵️
These two quilts are made with the same blocks in different arrangements! Skyler and Skyler 2.0.
The next QAL is for the quilt called Svana. It will be released on January 1. Watch for my Svana quilt sometime in January!

  1. Hard to believe that is the same pattern but different layouts. I love both, but am quite partial to #1, love the color combo too! Beautiful fabrics on both, and of course, the quilting is fab!

  2. That is amazing to see what you can do with the same block to create a completely different design - wow! I love the different colors you chose for these, too. I've never worked with turquoise and fuschia exclusively, but they are gorgeous together!

  6. If you hadn't said they were the same block I would never have known! And even with that they don't look anything alike!!

  7. Wow! What a difference background/foreground values make when you switch it up! I would never have thought the were the same pattern. Very cool.

  8. Nancy, if you hadn't pointed out that the blocks were the same, I wouldn't have picked that up. Opting to drop the block by a half was a great choice.

  11. Ditto what every one said. It is hard to believe they are the same block. But looking closely I see why they look so different. Love the quilting designs you used.

  12. My mind is blown that they are all the same units! Just one of the reasons I love quilting. Thanks for sharing in my Sew &Tell party.

  15. Very different but both are lovely.
I suppose I am drawn to the first one because of the colours in the Reef fabric. Beautiful and vibrant.
    Wonderful finishes.
