Light novels are great for in between heftier reading projects, unsurprisingly. :) I like to try the first version of a story first, when available, so I'll read this before watching the anime.

We're in the home stretch, finally! I'll get a review together over the weekend.

This one takes a lot less brainpower to listen to than Dickens did, *somehow.*

Having Katlyn around is sure handy. Or should I say *handsy*?

It's been a couple months since I read any of this book, and I very nearly hit a wall with the prose (again?). I think we're back on track and can get to the end this time.

It's going rather slowly, but I'm enjoying this! Amy and the heroine are finally in a situation where they can have a real conversation with each other.

The first chapter focuses more on Edward Stratemeyer's early life and career far more than on this book's nominal co-subject, his daughter Harriet. At this remove, she would have had to have documented her own childhood experiences somewhere for Rehak to refer to, and possibly those were lacking aside from a couple of curated anecdotes.

This is my third book by this author in four months. Unusual for me!

Almost done! Well ahead of time for my discussion group, for once.

I'll never finish this if I try to listen to it in bed. I've been about 1/3 of the way through Ch. 2 for a week! :D

There was a slight slowdown as the triad set itself up, but on the whole this has been galloping along with plenty of violence and heightened emotion.

A time-filler for when other formats are inconvenient or unavailable. The introduction is somewhat too dewy-eyed and hyperbolic about how forward-thinking Nancy was (and her authors were). Maybe our author will settle down for the parts that aren't directly related to her own childhood experiences with the character.

Compelling, and not subtle, like, at all. I suspect I know where a couple of the big-picture things are going, but those aren't likely to be in the forefront for another volume or two.

I'm enjoying the "rule of cool" setting. What happened in the most recent chapter makes me wonder what's coming next.

I took a paperback edition of this book to a friend's kids' singing performance before the holidays, and left it there, and by the time I got back they'd locked the doors. Oops. My newly-purchased hardcover is nicer, so it all worked out.

After a couple of listen-throughs of the early parts of the book, my mythology-barely-literate brain is starting to get a decent idea of the basics. Thanks, Stephen! I picked up a copy of hardcover, and am appreciating the photos and textual detail that are impossible to present in audio form.

Back into this story after holiday distractions.

It's taking forever for me to read anything, including popcorn books, unfortunately.

If this one doesn't stick, maybe it'll be time to give up on reading for the rest of the year. I loved this author's first serial, also translated by this publisher, so prospects are hopeful.

I want to read something that's better than this. On hold, a little less than halfway through.

I wish this book didn't remind me so much of TekWar. The peripatetic "looking for a guy" quest, a good number of the exact same neologisms. Fat phobia, ethnic stereotypes...

What is it with UF characters being on the cusp of explosive violence 24/7? It's kind of upsetting. Has the cozy stuff I've been reading recently affected my brain?
