Listened to Audio Book. Was listening at same time as reading Tom Lake. For a similar 'orchard' setting, this book was much better written and a more heartfelt read with a deeper and more tragic character that kept me wanting to listen to how her story would evolve. ...more

The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride

Ryann’s last review of the year

liked it
This was a long, slow read with lots of names and words in Hebrew that made it difficult to hold my attention. I powered through for the sake of finding out who was in the well, and why Obama loved this book. By the end I had forgotten the boring parts and appreciated the story of community and minorities and what is right in our country. And, I loved who was in the well. I get it Obama!
