Kind of like a dual memoir about Nina and Ruth. I loved learning about their friendship, their work, and the insider info on both NPR and the Court. Found in the library on my cruise from Lisbon to Buenos Aires. |

Found it in the library on our NCL Star cruise. Liked the varying perspectives on the Panama Canal. Had a Steinbeckian quality. | |

First review of Complementary Colors on Amazon!
5.0 out of 5 stars
Gwen Jumps the Fence, November 16, 2009
By S. Sublett (California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
COMPLEMENTARY COLORS is the second novel I've read by Kate Evans and I have to say I'm a fan. The book is about a straight girl who meets a gay girl and, despite a history of having never really thought about it, edges toward a lesbian affair. Complicating this strange, new attraction is that she's deeply into a tricky long-term, live-in relationship with an attractive male scientist. The female love object has her own entanglement -- a Lesbian minister.
Triangles upon triangles seems to be Miss Evans's style, as it was also characteristic of her first book, FOR THE MAY QUEEN (which was about the sexual adventures of a college coed). Plotting is one of this writer's strengths and there's some striking imagery, as befits a novel about two people who meet in a poetry workshop. But what really fascinated me was the close-up portrait of the woman changing her sexual stripes. A fun, sexy, quick read.

Kate, I just finished the first chapter of Complementary Colors on your blog. More terrific, page-turning fiction. I already hate Daniel -- the way he ignores Gwen, manipulates her, his fussiness, little details like the fact that he'll only subscribe to the New York Times even though they live in California. I can't wait to see which of the female characters you've introduced so far will end up being Gwen's love interest, if any. I just can't wait for the book to come out!
Just wanted to stop in and wish you the best of the holiday season! Merry Christmas!-Noran

Kate, Angela's Ashes is the truth that people hate to see....our generations are the first to have any freedom of choice, integrity, pseudo-control of our pregancies & hench lifestyle choices. Most of us do not appreciate what this really means to us--Angela's Ashes is an eye opener.
Memoirs of a Geisha is a movie that when I first saw it I had to see it immediately again (I rented it on DVD so that is exactly what I did.....) A most poetic & beautiful film..again with many truths & surprisingly some humor for covering such a humor- less topic of being sold as a young woman because of the family's poverty (set in old Japan pre-WWII)
Nice to discuss books into movies with you. Thanks for adding me here.
