Hooked on Books discussion

Rules:
1. There are 50 Monsters + 6 Bonus Monsters to hunt for the next three months. Each monster has the weapons that can kill them listed. Since I’m the Mistress of the Hunt, you’ll find some unorthodox weapons.
2. Read books that will have the weapon(s) listed for the Monster on the Cover or in text or simply read a book with that monster.
3. There is no particular order, you can Hunt as you please.
4. HOB Standard Challenge Rules apply.
5. Bonus Monsters are worth surprise points.
6. Everyone on the Team has to read for the Bonus Monster. Reading for the same task is allowed.
7. Divide and Conquer. Apart from the Bonus, each Monster can only be read by 1 Hunter.
8. Hunters have to read for the Bonus Monster/check-in before moving onto the regular hunting.

Bonus Monster Rules
1. You get 7 days to read for the Bonus Monster and Check in as a team!
2. You have to start the book after the Bonus Monster task has been posted
3. You can't use the same book for the Regular Monster and the Bonus
4. Remember this is Competitve Challenge!
5. Reading for the same task is allowed
6. Have Fun!!!

Each Team will have 3 Passes for the Bonus tasks. If a member can't read, they can use the pass (Zero points for the Member) and/or another member can read a book. 3 times only!! Use your passes wisely!

Hello team! Thanks for the links. Great suggestions for team names, I especially like either The Spectral Sleuth Syndicate or Killa Godzilla, but would be happy with any of your other suggestions too. You’re the experts, you know best what works for team challenges.

I see in the Rules on the SS, it tells us what to read:

So we can start now, I guess.

Sorry, I knew the rules are in the spreadsheet. But I thought we had to do a specific bonus task before doing any of those listed.

I agree with your suggestion Richard. But we can find the weapons in our books or on the covers, as well as the monsters in books. I was lucky & found a book with “machine gun” in the text ( for Chupacabra) so will start with that if you both agree.

If Jazzy isn’t using the spreadsheet, perhaps we should just claim a few tasks each from Richard’s list in message #38 above & posting our chosen tasks (not the books as anyone can read these discussions). Jazzy, if you can read the spreadsheet (it may be read-only for you) it would be useful to you - I’ll message you to explain, as I think we use similar computers.

If I've read the rules right, once the Bonus Monster Task has been posted, then we'll have 5 days to read a book each that fits the task.

I’ll remove this if you want, but can start with these tasks

Sorry to be difficult - but we need to work together! We’re all reading random tasks & I think you are risking posting too much information where anyone can read it? It’s a competition.

& will add it the the spreadsheet tomorrow (too late to set up my computer to do it tonight).

Standard tasks, I think, are either the named monster in the text, the weapon in the text, or a picture of the weapon on the cover (please check!)
Jazzy, if “Redcap, is a monster in the bonus task list, don’t read the book until you know what the bonus task will be or I don’t think it counts. Sorry.
Perhaps it will get easier…

Perhaps we could just say which tasks we plan to read next - like Richard has in message #72, then say once we complete them. It’s a huge list so plenty of choice at first. Just try not to choose monsters in the bonus list - we need to keep them to use when the bonus tasks are set.

Jazzy, don’t worry - it will get easier! I don’t know anything about any of the monsters & am choosing my books based on the weapons. It would be unfair to tell you what books to read, though I’m happy to send you some suggestions later today.

That was quick - you are amazing! I'm on my computer briefly before I go out for the morning. Perhaps you could choose your books & post here to say which tasks you're doing? I don't need any extra books today & will contact Jazzy later. About to try to enter my book on the spreadsheet. But your additions to it look wonderful. If you want to be in sole charge of the spreadsheet I don't mind, but also don't expect you to do extra work so think about it before deciding.

I’m back! You’ve both been busy with this, but please try not to give information about the books - if you spend ages searching for something then post details here anyone else could save time by using what you found…

Richard, message #80: I think Jazzy claimed “ Pishachas - Sword” but perhaps changed to a different monster killed by a sword? There are a few in the original list.

Otherwise it’s all very impressive, especially the tasks you aim to complete next.

Jazzy, I agree with Richard’s reply to you. If you know lots about monsters you may know which books are relevant. But personally I don’t so it’s easier for me to find weapons & read a book in any genre that includes a particular weapon. For example if “needle” was listed as a weapon, I could read a novel that included something about sewing, or a hospital drama where someone gave an injection, etc - you get the idea. If any bonus tasks involve knowing about monsters I’ll be asking you both for advice on what to read as I won’t have a clue!

to my list, but it will take a while to read them. (There are other monsters for “magic” so I’m happy to change the monster if it helps.)

Richard, I think you & I may need to watch for the bonus tasks - I wonder if they will appear in the spaces left in the spreadsheet lists? Between us I guess we can cover a lot of every 24 hours if we remember to check! We’ll need to warn Jazzy & all of us agree what to read as I think we will all have to do the same bonus task.

Don't worry about taking a long time with Jazzy & I. We go at our own pace. But it's always just a competition with ourselves personally, never to make anyone feel less-than.
