I'm going to go all out and aim for 10,000 pages per Prompt so that's at least 60,000 pages for 2022!!
of course i'm in - even if i fail normally...haha! as of 14 DEC my page count for the year has been 76k - i'm going to assuming since i'm in grad school for the first 6 months of the year - that my reading will be roughly the same - i'm going to go with 15% of that - so 11400 per prompt
Ellis wrote: "I'm in! I haven't read as much in recent years, so I'm shooting for 6 books per prompt."
Sounds like a good number, Ellis :)

Lol thanks, LynnB. You know i still have troubles typing 2021 still and we're at tail end already 😅
I want to try a pages goal; but after much calculation, I am chickening out and going for a book number.
My goal: 10 books

I was thinking the same thing, Bea. But this year, when I was reading something rather long, I kept wishing I'd "get credit" for it somewhere. And my LOST and Moving Mountains goals are # of books. I think I'll try pages.
But how to choose a number? I see several people have chosen 5000, but that would mean everything I read has to fit into this challenge. I seem to average about 30,000 pages per year.
I think I'll go for 2500 pages per prompt. And, as Tien says, we can always push it up if we want.
I think if you want to try a pages goal, you should go for it! Just pick a not-too--high number.

I'm in! Looks like this year I've read much less than the previous years - I have to go back to 2013 to find a year in which I read less than this. I've honestly no idea why that is! I've read around 25,000 pages this year (so far), so I'll go with 4,000 pages per prompt - hoping I'll manage to read more next year! Will come back later to reserve my spots in the prompt threads.
I'll go for 2,022 pages per prompt. It doesn't sound much compared to a lot of you, but I haven't been reading so much over the last couple of years, so I need an achievable goal.
2022 pages sounds like a wonderful number to me, Lagullande! I hope you don't mind if I copy your idea and do the same!

Not at all, Rosemary. In 2020, I was reading a lot more so it sounded like too small a goal and I doubled it to 4040 pages. With my current reading habits, 2022 sounds enough of a challenge.

And, remember, if it turns out to be too small, it can always be increased.

You may increase your goal later, if you find you haven't been ambitious enough

I'm in again. I stopped updating most of my challenges early last year. It just felt too overwhelming. I'm optimistic that this year will be a better, though!
I also like the idea of 2022 pages, Lagullande! I think I'll start there, too. And, if things go really well, maybe I'll double it before the year is out.

Reading 5 books per prompt for Let's Book It served me well, so I will make it a bit more challenging this year and go for 6 books per prompt.
I failed miserably in all my challenges in this group last year -- lets see if I can do better this time. :) I'm going to start with 5000 pages/prompt and see how I go - I'm a little worried about that poetry prompt....
I have been re-thinking my giving up on pages. Still all my planning is done...so, I think I will keep track of the pages I read for each prompt and see how many that is. Maybe that will boost my confidence to try pages next time!

YOLO! ha ha ha... keeping track of pages while having books goal sounds so very sensible lol

I am too lazy to keep track of pages so I will go with 15 books per prompt and hope that I do better than this year.
Count me in!
I haven't read many pages this year. Only 12,290 so far! And I don't thing I'll read more than 13,000 before 2022, so I'll go with 1,500 pages.

I'm in and I will go for 12 books per prompt. That would be a total of 72 books which should be doable - assuming Tien hasn't been too wicked with the prompt tasks!

Naw, they're mostly flexible- it's the mini challenges you may have to look out for lol

Can i check if books added to tbr in 2022 are eligible? I had assumed not, but don't actually see that written any where. I might have missed it.

JRI! is not limited to books only on your TBR - this rule is usually for Moving Mountains, Meg.

What is the rule about audio-only books for this challenge? Can I count them at all? And since I'm using page number goals, should I just estimate a page number (e.g. 1 hour is about 30 pages)?
Meg wrote: "Tien wrote: "yes you can, Meg. and yes, that estimate is good :)"
thanks!"
I've just been using the number of pages of the most popular print edition. Is that Ok too?

That's what I've been doing, Lagullande. Meg's asking for audio only book (ie. no print edition)
I've decided to up my target to 6000 since I'm close to finishing a couple of prompts but want to keep going. Bit worried about prompt 4 and 5, but I'll make it work!
Like a number of you, I set myself a goal of 2022 pages. Now I've realized I have a question about that.
Does a book have to be completed to claim pages from it? I'm thinking of Prompt 5, Bibliophile Rhapsody. I've been reading short stories from an anthology. May I count the page total for the stories I've read without reading every story in the book?

ah, interesting question, Susan.
I'd say yes, you'll have to complete the book to claim pages.
I'm thinking that it wouldn't be counted on GR if you didn't complete the book so I'm applying that principle here.

Makes sense. I'll be able to do it if I can renew the book when it's due. If not, I still have time for something else.

Books and music are usually very good company. Some authors always write with music. Some readers love to have music playing in the background as ambience while they read. So let's have a reading challenge too!
Official Start date of this challenge is January 1, 2022. Challenge will run up to December 31, 2022.
B. Goals
All participants will pick their own goals.
You may wish to nominate:
1. a percentage of total pages read last year (2021)*
OR
2. a number of pages
OR
3. a number of books
There is no minimum to apply.
*For instructions, go here
This goal will be per Prompt and will be a static number. That is, if you've picked 10% or 5,000 pages or 20 books as your goal, it'll be 10% or 5,000 pages or 20 books per Prompt. You may increase your goal later, if you find you haven't been ambitious enough ;)
C. Prompts
There are 6 Prompts & all to be announced at once.
These Prompts are pretty self-explanatory and once they are announced, they are open until the end of the challenge. You can read all Prompts concurrently.
D. Mini Challenges
These Mini Challenges will be the main focus of this challenge but all will relate to reading for the Prompts. There will be Read-a-thons as well as some FUN challenges (to be unveiled one at a time so keep your eyes peeled). ALL books read for Mini Challenges (excl. Read-a-thons) will have to fit within Prompts.
The first one will start in February.
Please go to Read-a-thons for instructions & timetables.
E. Completion
There is no limitation on planning and you may complete any Prompt in any order you like.
To claim Completion, please post a new comment in the relevant Prompt thread including a link to your original post.
G. Housekeeping
1. Each book read can only be claimed once throughout the challenge (ie. no crossover between Prompts)
2. There is no page limit for books read.
3. Use the page numbers of edition you are reading in calculating your progress. If you listened to an audiobook, we will look at the most popular edition (whatever that is) for the page numbers. If there isn't a page number for that edition, we will use the next one down on the list and so on.
4.There will be planning threads set up for each Prompt. Please post your plan/s in the correct thread.
5. For certain rules applicable only per prompt (if any), please refer to that particular prompt's thread.
