Sue | 2471 comments I found this book to be very moving. Very difficult subject matter, but I loved that the book (while fictionalized) was based on the verbal history given by Lale Sokolov, the main character of the book.

This is essentially a love story between two people in the most difficult environment imaginable. Also a story of survival and a reminder that we all need to hold onto our humanity.

Honestly my most favorite part was the afterward given by Lale's son Gary.

I liked the afterward too. It made him seem more real.
