A Thousand Splendid Suns

I read this book for a book-club even before I heard of the Kite Runner. The plot-line is decent, and the upheavals behind the communist and Taliban regimes in Afghanistan are well-depicted in their brutality (especially as perpetrated on women and children). Unfortunately, the work has an orientalist slant to it, evident in how the author opposes values, and in the how the characters think and speak.
