I love fantasy and a friend raved about this series. Suggested I actually start with this book even though it's not the first in the series. I found it brilliant when it didn't get bogged down in psychological reflections and too much societal commentary. I don't mind a good proportion of such in a book, and truly it can give added dimension to my reading Buuuuuut there was just too much and it slowed the book down so much that I got bored. I found myself skipping whole pages and more to get to where the plot became important again. This skipping happened much more than what would indicate a good book to me.

I actually read two other books while leaving and then coming back to this one - never a good sign.

I may or may not read any more of the series. In any case I will take a break before deciding.
