The Last Party

Perla lives in a wealthy gated community in Los Angeles with her husband Grant, and 11 year old daughter, Sophie.
Perla prefers to live in the moment and rarely speaks of her traumatic past even though Grant urges her to open up. She doesn't want to revisit those memories and he should respect her wishes to avoid the subject.
At her 12th birthday party her father murdered two of her friends before trying to take her life. Perla survives and is adopted into a wealthy family while her Dad faces a lifetime in prison for his crimes.
Now Perla is planning Sophie's 12th birthday party and the details seem eerily similar to that birthday party long ago. Is it merely a coincidence or is the past coming back to haunt them? You'll have to read this to find out!
A.R. Torre delivers another popcorn popping page-turner. This book has secrets and lies galore but had little in the way of surprises. I had the plot figured out from almost the first page. Any twist she tried to utilize I foresaw well ahead of time. I admit that for a book that was so transparent in plotting it still managed to be a page-turner, though. There is something about Torre's writing that has that addictive quality that always manages to hook me. This book is the equivalent of chips and dip. Tasty but not super fulfilling. 3.5 stars!

Thank you so much, Kaceey! 💛 Yes, let's hope her next book hits it out of the park for both of us. 🤞

I love how your last line sums it up! Not a full meal of steak and potatoes but sometimes chips and dip are enough! 😃
That happens to me, where I know where this is going, but I don't care, I'm there for the ride. Excellent review Michelle!
