This is my first book Lavinia Glen and it will not be my last! I loved it and can't wait to read her next upcoming book.
I adore the Hero, Colin, the newly appointed Earl of Hartfield. He is another cinnamon roll Hero to love. I felt his pain, suffering from a back deformity and being bullied at school for wearing a back brace. I also saw an in need strength in him to fight and this may have influenced his decision became a doctor to try to help people. I could relate to him going through a health struggle myself.
He was sweet and kind to his stepmum and sister and was happy for them to stay in his home and to be apart of a family once more.
The heroine, Abigail, a Widow, vowed to never marry ever again after an abusive previous marriage and was happy to live like a recluse as a Lady's companion. However upon meeting Colin and entering a marriage of convenience with him, she realised that she has much more life to live and they both needed each other heal from past trauma.
If you love a Beauty and the Beast retelling, marriage of convenience, steam, and tortured characters, this is book for you. It touches on themes of bullying, shame and healing.
I received an arc for free by the author and this opinion is my own and review is submitted voluntarily
