Friedrich Dürrenmatt has become one of my favourite writers of all time. It's such a shame he only wrote a handful of crime novels because they are so good. His writing is exceptional and his pacing is impressive. A must read for crime readers.

This book is the sequel to The Judge and his Hangman which was brilliant. There's only two books in this series featuring Inspector Bärlach and I wish there were more. Both books are under 160 pages long.

I feel Dürrenmatt is an underappreciated writer and deserves more recognition for his works. The Pledge is also another excellent book by Dürrenmatt. His other known works are his plays: The Visit and The Physicists.
