The varied cultures are being nicely elaborated, the characters are developing from 18 to 20 year old followers of their own cultures to more experienced people with ties across cultures based on friendships and love. The rulers are still a bit under developed, but are poised to be revealed and developed in future tales. Good coming of age book.
