Ecology, Community and Lifestyle Arne Næss, first published 1976
Deep Ecology introduced by Næss in 1973.
In 1973, Norwegian philosopher and mountaineer Arne Næss introduced the phrase deep ecology to environmental literature. Environmentalism emerged as a popular grassroots political movement in the 1960s with the radical involvement from the beginning of the 70s with Global Earth Day, Green peace and other organizations. Deep ecology based upon the view of Gandhi but most of all Mahayana Buddhism, who Buddha shared his wisdom about 2500 years ago, not to kill, not to destroy. Buddha gave his lectures on the most central question; not to kill any living, including the grass, tress, the sea, and the mountains. What is deep ecology? Deep Ecology based upon a great respect for all living beings, nonviolence, and self-realization within a personal contact with nature.

A must read for anyone deeply interested in green philosophy written by Arne Nass the Norwegian philosopher, climber, boxer, environmentalist and warm-hearted man who in the beginning of the 70’s started talking about Deep Ecology.
