Devious Lies (Cruel Crown, #1)

Devious Lies, by Parker S. Huntington, kept me up til 2am reading. I'll admit the beginning of the book had a lot of background/foundational information that kept me re-reading a few pages to make sure I understood the characterizations and their assigned roles, but once that was accomplished, I found myself drawn in by the author's beautiful writing, and the characters of Nash and Emery--loved them. I especially loved Emery's unique and quirky nuances, along with her unapologetic personality. Gotta love a fighter with a heart--same for Nash. I won't give much of the plot away, but when I finished reading Devious Lies, I was so impressed by Huntington's ability to weave the plot's threads as artfully as she did...that takes a lot of thinking, re-thinking and planning as a writer. Awesome talent. I also thought the witty banter and sharp-tongued duels were well-done! Some made me smile, others I found myself wincing with their power. Again, the writing and plot agenda were in alignment. Was the book a little long with too many flashback segments, yes, but as a reader, I have the luxury of speed-reading...as the author, I understand she's trying to convey the history of these two wounded people to create depth and understanding. Personally, I'd rather have too much information, than have plot holes my brain can't crawl out of! Sending a big high-five to Parker S. Huntingon, and her support team for working through all the twists and turns of Devious Lies. Blessings, R. W. Patterson
