I don't think this author's writing style and I are going to get along. The middle-school-boys humor, the juvenile banter, the overuse of exclamation points, the sophomoric writing, poor world building, poor police procedure, failure to research firearms... Nope, not my cuppa.

I've tried 3 books by this author, and decided she wasn't for me, either.

She's not for me either. At least you got an Irish Wolfhound out of this one. :)
I feel the same way for the most part. Especially with her Hitman's guide! It was way too much for me and made it hard for me to relate to some of the characters. But this was much better then the rest of her works in my opinion. I will definitely finish the series. But I do wish she curb some of the humor sometimes. I would make me like her books a lot more. But I am biased cause I prefer serious drama to rom com stuff.
I have tried 2 or 3 of her books and I am baffled by the humor. It's so juvenile and constant (at least in the ones that I tried to read) and it's not even like clever snark. I mean I glad others get enjoyment out of her books, and there's a lot that do, but I just don't think I have it in me to keep trying.
I haven't tried anything by this author and this isn't encouraging.
