it was amazing

In retrospect, this is not a perfect novel, or series of novels, but when I think of who I wanted to be when I was ten years old, my answer was always Alanna. (And I still have a crush on George.)

Katie I just read the book again and plan on reading the rest of the series once more. I can't agree more with your review. I loved it as a little girl and I like it as an adult, but damn did I want to be Alanna! She was awesome.

Elley Murray Same same same!! Loved this book back when I was 10, and now that I'm 26 I still like to go back and reread the books every few years. :)

Reading Addict Oh, George, one of the first guys I was gay for... Must re-read asap. But yeah, I always loved it and it introduced me to gender bending ideas and books.

Mel Campbell i loved it too!! almost stole it from the school library - although i always had dreams of Jonathan <3

Megan Same here I loved George!

Anna I must say, Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors of all time, but I agree. The song of the lioness books are too much. I understand that she had to cut out parts and rewrite them so she could publish, but this series is just wrong in spots. I was wondering, what do you think of the protector of the small series? It has some of the same issues, but on a smaller scale at least. However, I think Pierce does a much better job of explaining the passing of time.

Arachne I think we all loved George.
