I've been told by so many people that I need to read this book. It gets so much hype that I thought there was absolutely NO way it would live up to it. But it did more than that. It surpassed it.
My favourite books is a pretty exclusive list and it usually takes me a while to decide whether a book fits that list or not but this was an instant favourite. I absolutely adored it. Even just thinking about it now I am fighting back tears because this was such a beautiful and vivid story. I felt like I was with these characters through all of their terrible experiences and I just wanted to shelter them from it all. The women in particular, the sisters, were absolutely inspirational. They showed incredible strength in this terrible time and I loved seeing how women contributed to the war. This was just a story that really resonated with me. It has a special place in my heart for it was truly, beautiful.
If you like WWII historical fiction, or even if you don't, I encourage you to try this book out. I know I'm going to be encouraging basically everyone I know to read it.

I am so happy to see you loved it, too! It really is such an emotional story and I hope now even more people will pick it up because of your recommendation, Hailey. :)

I read this the beginning of the year and I loved it too! It’s on my staff picks at work!! So glad you enjoyed!!! It truly is an amazing story! (: you should definitely read A Man called Ove!!!
Ahh i just bought this last week because of your historical fiction tbrs and videos! it made me want to read more of that genre! Now im going to have to actually read it asap!
Such a great book! I couldn't put it down and the characters and story were amazing. I'm wanting to read some of her other novels and see if they're as good.
I am so very happy that you loved it. It is by far my favorite book of all time. I have a plan to reread it every single year because every time I finish it, I just want to read it again! ❤️❤️
I read it last summer and liked it so much, especially because I had never read historical fiction set in France before so it was so interesting to read about it from that perspective. Also, you should definitely read Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah asap it's amazing! 💖
It was my favorite read of 2016! I have bought it and given it to several people. So glad you like it too.
I love, love, LOVE this book with such a passion. I read it last summer and oh how I cried. It is one of my favorite historical fiction books ever.
Hi Hailey. Have you read any of the Philippa Gregory books? I have just bought The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory.
So glad you enjoyed it so much! I trust your reviews because most of the times I agree completely with the way you feel about a book. Can't wait to read this!
I just finished a wwII Nazi germany set book called the scent of secrets. I highly recommend. Just finished it.
I am currently reading this book and am really liking it so far. You should check out Sarah’s Key! I had never heard of it but just read it a few days ago. It is all about the Vel D’hiv round up!
Just finished at 2AM today and was BAWLING (definitely a wear-my-glasses-to-work day). I haven't been able to stop talking about it. Legit cried four separate times reading this, which is more times than I have probably in the last 6 yrs total. So incredibly moving, even for someone as emotionless as myself 😉
Just finished this book tonight, per your recommendation, and I was sobbing. SOBBING! It’s been a few hours and I’m still wrecked. Jeez!!!!!
I agree. This was fantastic. As I read the last chapter aloud to my husband, who I had given all of the cliff notes to throughout the last week 😂, I spoke through tears. It was SO good and I felt like everything was delivered with hope. SO good.
You took the words right out of my mouth ! Instant favourite for me too and I also just felt like I was there with them rooting for them to survive.
I really wish, I wasn’t late to reading this, because now I want to talk about it and I’m years later haha. I thought it was a good book while reading and at the end I cried about 3 times while reading the last 2 chapters, maybe that’s considered one long cry, I don’t know. Either way I really liked this book!
"Even just thinking about it now I am fighting back tears...". It's exactly what happens to me. I finished the book some months ago. It's in my book-shelf between many not-read-yet others but though tempted sometimes I still cannot open it to re-read this or that chapter/passage. Heartbreaking!
