There were a plethora of feelings surging through me as I read Release. Hope, anger, elation, shock, dismay, peace and happiness just to name a few but the emotion that presented itself the most was pride. I am wholeheartedly and fiercely proud of Dylan Allen. For her fortitude and strength. She has poured out her soul in order to bring us Lilly's story and you can feel every ounce of it in these pages. I know this wasn't an easy story to write, it couldn't have been.
Lilly is the middle Hassan sister, you don't need to read Rise or Remember to start Release but you obviously SHOULD. You'll really miss out on meeting some of my favorite characters EVER if you don't.
One of my favorite things about Dylan's books are the locations, it's almost like a character within itself. The way she describes the scenery, landscapes, the people.....food, sounds and smells place you right there and definitely makes you want to book a flight immediately! Release starts off in lovely Ghana and that is where Lilly meets Harry. Is it a "meet cute", love at first sight, heart eyes???? Not exactly! Actually, not at all but it's a first meet you won't forget!
To be honest Lilly wasn't my favorite. Although I empathized with the gut wrenching tragedies of her past there was something blocking me from connecting with her which freaked me out because I immediately felt a kinship with her sisters. I did something I generally never do, I put myself in Harry's shoes instead of Lilly's. I saw what he saw and once I did THAT I fell for Lilly HARD!
As much of a beautiful, swoony, romantic, intense and passionate love story that this is......It's also full of heavy ANGST (which I love) REAL world issues and hard things that we sometimes want to hide from. Release is breathtakingly emotional and filled with incredibly powerful moments but there's also SO many situations..... one in particular that even as I write this I'm DYING laughing just thinking about it.....Oh Camille! LOL!! You'll also get some updates on our faves from Rise and Remember. SWOON!
In true Dylan Allen fashion these characters are highly complex and developed, fiercely loyal to each other and her gorgeous story telling will bring you to your knees. A MUST READ! Congratulations Dylan this is your best yet!
