The Light Years (Cazalet Chronicles, #1)

A very nice way to start the New Year. This family is lovely. Rich and kind, thoughtful and warm. They are a family that enjoy each other's company and respect everyone within it. Even the children are given voice and listened to.
This book is the pre-WWII setting, building the familial relationships, getting ready for what we know will come. The setting is peaceful, yet watchful as War looms but hasn't yet arrived.
The story focusses a lot on the children. They are the true starting point of this series.
The writing is perhaps a bit uneven. Some sections pulled me right in; others seemed a bit slow & drawn out (although still interesting).
I look forward to continuing the story of this warm, enjoyable family.

I wonder what you will think. i gave it three stars. I AM kind of interested in rading a biography on the author though.

So both of us gave it three stars. The reason why I hesitate to continue is that although I thought the kids were well drawn, I found the adults rather boring. In the following books will the author be able to draw the kids, who have now become adults, in an interesting fashion? There is a biography about the author that looks pretty interesting too. I just feel I should read a couple of the series first before tackling the biography.
I read this series a long time ago but I really liked it. The family really grow on you as the years pass.
