3.5 Stars
The beginning was great. This had a different tone at first than KA's other works. Less hard core badass and more small town, slow and easy. The whole idea of the will was new and really sweet, if a tiny bit cheesy. The hero is still very much a KA guy, though. Choppy sentences, lots of repetition and grunting, very much overbearing. He's very much a family man, which I loved. Somewhere in the middle of the book, it started to really drag...so much that I put the book down and read half of another series before continuing. There was just nothing happening for a good 100 pages. The last 1/4 of the story picked up again and was wonderful...more fast paced, each chapter brought us closer to some kind of resolution, and the ending...wow, that ending! The conflict resolution between Jake and Josephine made my heart go pitter patter. And another instance with Jake's kids rounded out the finale and gave this book one of the better endings of all of KA's books. This was my first Kristen Ashley book in over a year. I'm glad I took a break. I feel like I enjoyed it more. Looking forward to Mickey's story, although I'm a bit concerned about the heroine in that one.
