Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse, #1)

This book takes place in the future and humankind has reached the stars. There are space stations all over our galaxy and people have become native to different worlds and these space stations. And with this expansion, humans have the same old problems as well as new ones.
I will start off by saying I had no idea what to expect and the only reason I read this is that the Syfy channel is doing a series based on these books. I am the type of person who needs to read the source material before viewing it. I was immediately drawn into this book because of the characters. They were charismatic and well developed even though they have flaws. I wavered back and forth who my favorite character was and I love the setting as it takes place in the future but you can easily imagine this is how it would be. Differences still lead to discrimination and humankind still faces this problem or regular problems like showing affection for others. This book has many moral concepts and is a character driven book instead of the future technology shadowing the characters.
The only flaw in my mind was the finale and this is the reason I lowered my rating from five stars to four. I thought it was a little of a letdown and I didn't totally buy into it. That being said, I think the authors have created a wonderful universe and I look forward to the following stories.
