Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1)

You'd think with all the bestsellers they have, they'd be able to get some decent covers for their books. Don't get me wrong. I love their writing, but I'm embarrassed to hold these books in the street.

Yeah, but the cover of Clean Sweep is gorgeous.

Here are some less bodice-ripper-y alternate covers shown in Ilona Andrews' blog postings back in October/November.
Have you seen the cover of the second book in the series, "White Hot?" It is so much worse, lol. Honestly, I would just shove a post-it on the cover and call it a day.
It's unclear whether or not that's an April Fool's joke I think... even Ilona Andrews is making fun of it...
Well, umm, I thought this was still in the “We’re discussing it” stage. But Amazon has it, so I guess not.
“Oh Mad Rogan, we are surrounded by enemies. Whatever shall we do?”
“Never fear! I shall drive them away with my secret weapon. Behold! My manly abs!
I find the cover deeply hilarious for multiple reasons, but I do think it’s a beautiful image.
PS. Will you stop asking if everything is April Fools joke? LOL. It’s like you don’t trust me. I wonder what would give you that idea.

Iain, will you post a link to the one on the bottom that looks like it has a postit note. I haven't seen that one.
Kristin, you can right click the image and click view image to see the image full size...

Oh, I agree. I remember when the cover was revealed on her blog, all of her male fans were all, "YEP, I'm buying that in EBOOk."
I completely agree with you, I can't hold these books without someone making a comment asking whether or not I'm reading porno's, my usual answer is yes, because people don't know better but it would be nice to avoid all the weirdos that look at you wrong
When I looked at the cover I wasn't sure what i was in for, because it looked like a Mills and Boon cover -- the book is really worth the read though. You have to wonder who decided on the cover and whether they had read the book or not.
It's actually really coincidental, because on my goodreads recent updates page Kat's status update on Burn For Me and Ilona Andrew's post on their covers are right next to each other: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...
tl;dr, Ilona and Gordon don't have control over how their book covers look, sadly.

Horrible covers are oneone of the reasons I'm grateful my vision forced me over to ebooks. I suspect the person who chooses their covers has a deep seated grudge from a past life. They should probably win some sort of an award for actually succeeding in this business with those covers though.
There was another better cover that everyone loved but sadly they changed it to this... Ilona showed the alternative cover on a blogpost.
I agree they're dreadful. I think IT world even hamper sales. Pity, it'a great story. One of their best.
The magic of ebooks! No one needs to know what you are reading once you’ve passed the cover page ;-)
From what I understand of my friends who publish, the author(s) rarely get a say in the cover art, sometimes they don't even get to choose their own title (this OFTEN happens in the knitting/crochet publishing world).
Thanks for the comments, I know it's dumb but seeing the cover I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book -even if I have read several of them- but now I will ! :)
I was terrified of starting this book because of that horrible cover but now I'm glad i actually did. I loved it, but they really should change the cover... It affects how people decide if they want to even touch the book or not
Exactly!!!! I stumbled on and loved this little series - so wish there was more. But my husband made so much fun of me for the covers!! I kept trying to explain that there was so much more to it, but he would just roll his eyes and say, yeah right.
You read my thoughts
It’s exactly what I think
I wouldn’t like my kids to wonder what kind of books I am reading
I also think the book is very well written very clever and the cover may be confusing about what’s in the book

You know it took for the sixth book in the Kate Daniel series to come out and all the rave reviews to finally convinced me to read the series. I have been avoiding them because the covers are so ....
Thank you! I'm so glad this is at the top of the reviews. lol I actually ended up loving this book, but the dang cover kept me from reading it for so long. Then I read the character descriptions and it's like... what? Who are the people on the cover even? Not these characters. Lol
I'm so glad to read that I'm not alone in this. I refused to read the KD series for years because I thought the covers weren't great and when I got over it, I loved each and ever book. I'm starting this series now even though the covers are so much worse than the KD ones, but I'm sticking to ebooks haha!
I'm very happy that I live in a country where personal book covers (the leather/cloth ones that come in an endless variety of designs and in all sizes) are a thing and are sold everywhere.
The only problem left is having these books in a easily visible place on a bookshelf at home...

Yeah that why it took me years to actually read this book series. At least their Kate Daniels aren’t quite as bad
Even reading them as an e-book doesn't solve it completely, because adding it on Goodreads shows that cover on my feed! So embarrassing. I agree with the poster above, it's just goes to show how great the author is if they can succeed despite the horrific covers on all their books. Maybe one day they'll have leverage and get to control some of the decisions there. (Please God!)
Haha! Couldn’t agree more! My husband saw the cover on my tablet & was shocked and appalled at the “trash” I was reading! Oh dear...
So embarrassing how many good books have cringey covers. Oh how I miss Nora Roberts abstract/flower covers that I used to dislike. Never will I complain again
