10/12/23 - I have tried to ignore the ways this book is so like the In Death series. It's just not possible to do that. I stand by my original review. But I must say that the plot was good, and I really liked the characters. I still can't believe that both Sam and Nick never bothered to seek out the other in six years.
11/24/19 - I saw a lot of similarities between Sam and Nick with Eve and Roarke from Nora Robert's In Death series. This book was in no way as good as any book in the In Death Series. The romance was hot, but not very believable, although I thought that the attraction still being there after six years was very sexy. The mystery/suspense elements, well, I just didn't buy it from the very beginning and the more I learned about the victim, the less I liked him. Everyone loved him, but he was a real SOB.
Sam Holland, a Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant, needs this case of a murdered US Senator to help rebuild her reputation. When Sam finds a one night stand she had six years ago, Nick Cappuano, found the body and is the Chief of Staff, and best friend, of the murder victim, Senator John O'Connor, things could get dicey. Nick insists on being part of the investigation, especially when Nick learns that Sam never got the messages he left after their night together and he finds that the attraction, for both of them, is just as hot now as six years ago. Trying to keep this investigation professional proves to be impossible.
