Read 2 times. Last read January 21, 2015 to January 25, 2015.
After reading Darkfever all those years ago I couldn’t imagine a better book and yet I just finished reading Burned with the same feeling. Karen continually continues to exceed my expectations with her skill of the written word. She pulls me into Dublin and has me fighting besides Mac, Dani and the Nine. I want to be a sidhe seer!
Burned was two years in the making. I know I’m not the only one that waited with bated breath to find out what was going to happen with Mac and Dani’s relationship, how Mac and Barrons would proceed, and just why is Ryodan so interested in Dani. Karen answered those questions in typical fashion……with more twists and turns that have us panting for the next book in the series. Chapter after chapter my jaw descended toward the floor and is still sitting there as I write this review. This book was absolutely the perfect path for each character in her series and I could not be more pleased. I loved that during the lead up to the release Karen posted teasers that made you think one way and once you read them in context it was even better than you could imagine. She promised fans from the very beginning that these books were about light not dark and again she delivers. Her characters have evolved so much since the first book and we see this in Burned. Mac is wiser, Dani is more mature, Kat learns more about herself, Jo isn’t as foolish and of course Barrons is still Barrons, but you won’t hear me complaining about that! Ryodan is an even more complicated character than I ever gave him credit for, so much so that it’s no wonder Jo was so smitten in Iced. There isn’t a single thing to complain about with Burned. It delivers over and over. Karen has never put words on a page I haven’t enjoyed reading and Burned is no exception. For any true fan of Karen and The Fever series this is the perfect continuation of the previous 6 books and a great segue into all future books.

“Temptation isn’t a sin that you triumph over once, completely and then you’re free. Temptation slips into bed with you each night and helps you say your prayers. It wakes you in the morning with a friendly cup of coffee, and knows exactly how you take it.”

“Ryodan says softly, “Holy strawberries, Dani, we’re in a jam.”
I look at him like he’s sprouted two heads. Holy strawberries? In a jam? Even Barrons looks stumped.
He continues, “But don’t worry. Holy priceless collection of Etruscan snoods—you really butchered that one, by the way—I’ve got it in the bag. How about this one: holy borrowing bibliophile, let’s book.”

Thank you Jenna! I wanted to let everyone know how much I love Karen and her writing. To hell with the haters. Like I said, let's see their best-selling books hit the NYT and then they can talk :)
