it was amazing

Listened to this one on audio, vainly hoping beyond hope that I might finally read a Brandon Sanderson book I don't like so I can feel better about myself as an author.

But no. I enjoyed this book as much as any of his. Good worldbuilding, just as you'd expect from Sanderson. And a clever, detailed magic system. Good mystery surrounding the world.

And I really like that things aren't easy for the protagonist. Everything doesn't just fall into his lap. He wants things at the beginning of the book, and at the end of the book, he still wants them. He has some hope now, because he's learned more about the world, but some of his greatest desires are still not just unattainable, but seemingly impossible.

Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Franco Santos Always... Sanderson, the best! I'm reading Elantris now. Hope to get The Rithmatist in Spanish as "El ritualista" soon.

Scycer A Brandon Sanderson book that aint so great.. check out his Infinity Blade work. It definitely falls in the not so great works and hopefully you will feel way better as an author. :)

Shima I'm sorry but i don't think you'll be able to find one. He is just incredible. Haven't read anything of his that is short of amazing yet.

Jud Just bought this book, so glad it has great reviews

Alexis I love Sanderson a lot, but I honestly thought Warbreaker was honestly not that good.

Jordan Elek Infinity Blade Awakening actually got me back into reading fantasy. To create that story from the meager world of the iOS game is really impressive. I'll put The Rhythmatist on my list of books to read. Stormlight is amazing, but it'll be a bit before the next one. Gotta finish listening to The Wise Man's Fear first, though.

Bobby Luke Yeah, I agree with Alexis, Warbreaker was good - but not as good as the rest of his books.

Jon I need to read more Sanderson. I've read the first two of The Stormlight Archive, and they are incredible. I have The Rithmatist sitting on my shelf. :)

Carli I've just started reading it and it is the best book I've read in a long time, I'm definitely going to pick up his other books

Jim I am struggling to get to some Sanderson. I'll try this one. My 15 yr old son and I are eagerly awaiting your new one, Patrick.

message 11: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I've read The Way of Kings series and The Mistborn series and I loved them but I just finished Elantris and thought is was ehhh.

Steve Archer He is definitely a genius as well as prolific writer...I'm sure he has honed his craft and you will too ☺️

Seth On no! Such an unfortunate choice for an audiobook! The chalklings and other graphics of how the magic system works in this book are stellar.

Glad you enjoyed yourself despite missing out on them though!

Dillon Grey looking forward to you finishing your 3rd book after 7 years instead of playing DnD at pax west in seattle.. wow thatd be nice,

message 15: by Isaac (new)

Isaac Jones My favorite thing about Sanderson is his main style: each character has a weakness. In fact the magic system itself has inherent weaknesses and complexities that are exploited in spectacular ways in every book. The premise of this book is stupid, and I still eagerly await the next one. I am actually here because I forgot the name of this great book I read and was looking for it. P.S. I know Patrick doesn’t think much of himself but he needs to write again. I was not the type of person that “A slow Regard For Silent Things” was written for, but I still had to read it like a fool knows there is something about a symphony that is utterly compelling. I need more symphony Patrick. Even if I think it’s a weird type of music I’m still going to play it when no one is looking. My writing is terrible but that’s okay I hope everyone understands.

Ladraney Patrick, Best. Review. Ever.

And you are a great author. Don’t compare yourself to Sanderson. Your Legend is not His Legend. Write On! Fear not, wise man!

A Human All of your books are brilliant too; so I would say you are on an even playing field. No need to feel better about yourself. Lol :)

Matthew I've had this damn TBR book on my damn TBR shelf for too damn long damn it. Right next to Slow regard for something something.

Eylon Aharon If you listen to audio book you'll miss all the great drawings!!

Nataliia Why? Patrick, your books are grabbing the reader's attention full, there is no space for boredom, adventure goes on non-stop and they are amazing, full of deep feelings. I did not find a book that I like by Sanderson, they are too creepy, simplistic, repetitive, non-relating, pedictable.
