From the set-up and everything that's happened so far, I am very confident that I know what's going to happen in this book. And I find that I just don't care. No desire to read it. I'm not enjoying the narrative voice, the humor isn't quite working for me. I think this book feels so strongly forced by the author. It doesn't feel natural or realistic. Instead I only feel the author breathing down my neck, pulling the strings, making this book hit every specific turn of phrase and emotional beat that she thinks is genius/funny/endearing/touching/etc etc. To be fair, I do think that's often how romance novels go, maybe even the point of them. But it BOTHERS me and I don't enjoy it....more

i need publishers to market their books properly because i went in expecting a mystery and instead i got an erotic thriller, heavy emphasis on the eroi need publishers to market their books properly because i went in expecting a mystery and instead i got an erotic thriller, heavy emphasis on the erotic. let these authors write romance novels, i know it's what they actually want to do!!! terrrrrrible mystery, no thrills, silly juvenile illogical plot points, many many icky bad sex scenes, and no value added to my life ...more

Really enjoyed this one. After reading/watching a couple other things with the Sliding Doors trope, I've realized I really love this format and n3.5!
Really enjoyed this one. After reading/watching a couple other things with the Sliding Doors trope, I've realized I really love this format and need to read more things with it. This book was extremely enjoyable and I loved both timelines. My biggest criticism though is that I really think this book wanted to be New Adult rather than YA. All of the characters felt very accomplished, mature, and self realized for being teenagers. The storyline of "I don't know what I want to do with my life!!!" imo just doesn't hit very hard when it's about a 17 year old and by the end of the book she resolves the conflict by figuring out her career trajectory. I don't know. I know many people (myself included) who have felt aimless and unsure about their life paths well into their 20s. I think this book would have hit a lot harder in that regard if it was following a 22 year old who was fresh out of college and doesn't know where to pivot from there. Also the book is very romance heavy and it gets pretty sexy at times, which again just made me think it would have done better in the New Adult age range....more
