I went in with low expectations, this is just a nouvella so I thought it would be meh but I actually loved it. It was cute, funny, short, and sweet. I actually liked the characters a lot more here than I did in Ethan’s book. Ethan came off very dull in his book but he is so sweet and funny in this. I didn’t mind the pacing since it was a nouvella. Normally I am not a fan of just the FMC pining for the MMC but I didn’t mind it here. The characters both have history with each other but I could feel the tension despite it being short. I liked the characters and love Alexis and Joel together, I appreciate them more knowing their backstory. I don’t know if I recommend reading this first or Fool Them Once first but I didn’t enjoy Ethan’s book as much as this. Maybe read this before his book so you can appreciate him more? I am even more interested in their brother Grey now since he keeps to himself and seems isolated from his family by choice. I want to know more about him since everyone doesn’t understand him. On a drunken night, she decides to go to him to get a final answer and try to seduce him. But the night doesn’t go as she has planned. Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Alexis is drunk and comes from her friend Priya’s party. Her friends made a bet that Alexis won’t get with Joel who is her childhood crush for 17 years. When she was 5, Joel saved her from getting hurt in a play sword fight with her brother. Her brother was going to accidentally strike her when Joel protected her. It was so sweet since Joel had to go to the ER and Alexis cried herself to sleep. Joel kept trying to comfort her despite being hurt and when he was back, he hugged Alexis and said he found the scar cool, til this day he had it. He is 6 years older than her and never felt anything for her until the last year. They always talk and hang out but Alexis is tired of dancing around their relationship. Joel’s mother Marta worked for them as a cook and treated Alexis like her own. Alexis’s parents died in a car crash but she, her brother Ethan, and her other brother Grey, didn’t cry. Their parents weren’t good so they didn’t care much. Grey wasn’t as involved in their family and kept to himself, he was working to win their company over but Ethan was his competition, they were both workaholics. Joel is Ethan’s best friend but they have a rule to not go after exes or sisters. So Joel kept his feelings to himself even though he could tell Alexis had a crush on him. Alexis goes to his house drunk since she was tired of waiting for Joel, she was determined to have him. Joel is confused when he sees a drunk Alexis at his door and thinks it is a dream. Alexis kisses him and he kisses her back since he didn’t think it was real. But when he realizes she is drunk, he pulls away. He panics since he thinks Ethan will kill him. Alexis insists she isn’t drunk but Joel wants her outta his place. [image] Alexis goes to Joel’s room and tries to seduce him but he tells her he will make her a PB&J sandwich. She gets jam on her chest and he is trying so hard to keep it together but keeps staring at her. Alexis is so flirty and cute through the whole thing that Joel can’t help but laugh. When he tells Alexis he will either drive her home or have her sleep in his room while he takes the couch, she doesn’t listen. She changes into his shirt and says she will sleep where he sleeps. So he makes a pillow divider and sleeps on his side but she throws the pillows down and touches his back. He tells her to stop but she touches his nose. Alexis says she knows they will be good together and propositions him for sex but he says no since she is drunk. She says they have good chemistry, he talks to her all the time, and lists other things for why they would be good together. Alexis says he kissed her back but Joel makes jokes that it was an accident while she teases him. Joel keeps trying to deflect while Alexis tries to convince him. Eventually Alexis snuggles into him and Joel can’t help it and snuggles her, it was so cute. In the morning, Alexis wakes up and is so happy, feeling no regret, and touches Joel’s face. She tries flirting with him but needs to vomit. Joel sees that Alexis’s phone has messages from friends who apologized for the night and checked on her. He realized she was over since they had a bet about him. Once she is better, he gets her medicine and water to help her feel better. But Alexis is sober and tries to ask him what they are to each other again. She tries to ask him what is wrong with being together and at this point, Alexis feels defeated. She asks Joel if he will ever give her a chance but he doesn’t want to have this conversation even though he desperately wants her so he tells her it would be best for her to go home. Alexis feels rejected and pathetic for throwing herself on him repeatedly while he rejected her. Joel says that she should be apologizing for showing up without telling him and tryna sleep with him. She shuts him out and when he tries to reach for her, she moves away and leaves while Joel feels sorry. [image] Alexis walks home in just Joel’s shirt for an hour. Once she gets home, her friend Jane is over and hugs her, apologizing about the bet and comforts Alexis while she cries. Alexis sends back Joel’s shirt to his apartment with no note. For 6 weeks, Joel tries to get in touch with Alexis but she shuts him out. He calls her, texts her, sent her flowers with notes, but she doesn’t respond. He feels like his life is hell and misses her. His mother’s birthday comes up and he knows Alexis will be there so he is ready to fix things. But Alexis comes with a date whose name was Raj, and this guy was so fucking funny. He came with Alexis since he felt bad about the bet and wanted to help Alexis. Joel is jealous but insecure since Raj was a gynecologist and thought that Alexis dated rich people. Joel worked for his dad Jonathon at his autoshop. But Alexis was successful and smart on her own. Joel crushes Raj’s fingers when he shakes his hand and tries to look at Alexis but she won’t look at him. He goes to get a drink and his dad tells him how he met his mom. His dad said the only regret he had was waiting long to ask his mom out. He knows that Joel loves Alexis and Alexis has been waiting for him for long. Joel glares at Raj but it was funny seeing Raj wave at him and telling Alexis he wanted to be friends. Raj knew that Joel liked Alexis so he gets close to Alexis and Joel interrupts. Raj said he would leave if Joel interrupted them. Joel asks why she is mad and Alexis says she needs time from him. So Joel asks for one hour of her time and drives her home. “Speaking of the devil himself—the one that’s not my daddy—look at who’s glaring right at me.” And then he grinned and started waving at Joel, like the absolute muppet he was.” Joel tries to talk to Alexis but she is snappy with him and asks why he wants to talk. Joel tries to ask her why she came to visit him and why she wanted sex. He thought she wanted a drunk hookup. He didn’t want to lose their friendship and mess things up. Alexis doesn’t want to admit that she is in love with him but Joel sits in front of her on the coffee table and crowds her, asking her why she wanted to hookup. He asks if she is dating Raj and Alexis isn’t clear since she is trying to save herself from heartbreak. But Joel says that he knows she has a type, that all of her past boyfriends were rich and he wasn’t. Alexis is offended but Joel names all her exes and their professions. He asks her how she is able to move on so easily since he was living through hell for 6 weeks. Alexis cries and admits she has feelings for him but its been hell for 17 years since she has felt things for him the whole time. She tells him she wants to get married and have kids with someone who will love her rather than someone who doesn’t. She is tired of waiting for him and she lived through heartbreak since she has seen him in so many relationships. She cried herself to sleep while seeing him with others. She says she doesn’t care about her partner’s profession since she is rich and can handle herself which makes Joel relieved. Joel doesn’t know what to say when Ethan walks in. I didn’t expect Ethan to be so funny and cute for being the overprotective brother. Ethan asks why Alexis is crying, it was his apartment too since it is the family suite. Joel asks if their rule of no sisters is still a thing. Alexis finds out about the rule and tells Ethan that Joel isn’t interested in her anyway. Ethan asks why Alexis is crying. Joel says he loves Alexis so Ethan takes him to his office. [image] Alexis eavesdrops as Ethan questions Joel on his relationship with Alexis. Joel admits he fell for Alexis when they casually hung out one time and he just felt it. He kept his feelings to himself since he didn’t want to ruin their friendship. It was weird knowing Ethan and Joel were close when they barely spoke in the next book. But seeing their friendship here was so cute, wish we saw more of it in the next book. Ethan starts writing contract rules to Joel and makes him sign it, threatening to hurt Joel if he hurts Alexis. It was so fucking cute how protective he was of Alexis and how he did it behind her back, Alexis didn’t know Ethan cared this much. “If I, Joel Bennett, ever make Alexis Milani sad-cry again like I did today, I will cut off my own dick so Ethan doesn’t have to. (Acceptable exceptions include, and are strictly limited to: if she sad-cries at my funeral, because my sorry ass will already be dead and I won’t be Ethan’s problem anymore.) I looked up at him, brows twitching. “Sign your agreement here,” he demanded very seriously, pointing at the X he’d slashed underneath the oath.” Or this lmao “If I, Joel Bennett, cheat on Alexis Milani in my mind or in my dreams, I will cut off my own dick so Ethan doesn’t have to. If I cheat on her in real life, Ethan will shove my full body into a wood chipper, for which I will cover the rental fee in full. “I can’t control my dreams,” I insisted. “That sounds like a you problem.” I sighed in defeat and initialled my name.” Ethan is satisfied and Joel says he loves Ethan who says it back. He came to surprise Marta for her birthday and says he will be gone for 2 hours for them to makeup since he doesn’t wanna see that. Joel makes out with Alexis while she tells him to repeat that he loves her. They go to his place, fuck, and months later, he proposes. Raj and Joel become friends and everyone is happy. It was nice to see a cute happy ending for Joel and Alexis. Yes they aren’t that memorable but it was a cute read. I am really interested to see Grey’s story even more now since he seems to live a miserable, lonely life. I hope his book comes out at some point since he is so interesting. I did like Ria and Adrian’s book a tad bit more since their banter was top tier. But Jamie and Jackson were just so adorable. I recommend you read Ria and Adrian’s book first since you see references to their book in this, plus their book was hilarious even if it was cliche. The smut is a bit similar to Adrian and Ria’s book, there is light BDSM. Adrian would call Ria “pretty girl,” and Jackson would call Jamie “sweet girl” or “good girl,” but I didn’t mind. Jackson and Adrian asked for safe words before they did anything with the FMC. But Jackson had some other kinks that made his smut better. What I love about Kyra Parsi’s FMCs are that they have a backbone and don’t take shit from no one, including the MMCs. Jackson’s found family made me laugh, I loved all the characters in this. Toebeans the cat and Jackson’s relationship is just so funny. Jamie and Ria’s friendship went both ways which I loved. I look forward to reading more from Kyra Parsi, I love her books, I think Alice is next! [image] Jamie works for a matchmaking company and has a difficult time finding her client Jackson a match. Her job is on the line, but something tells her that Jackson does not want to find a match. She decides to go undercover to see what really goes on during the dates. What Jamie finds out pisses her off and she lands herself a new position to be Jackson’s live-in dating coach for a month. Jackson will do what he can to make Jamie’s job difficult. “You broke me,” he chided. “It’s been a very traumatic experience. Do you know butterflies in your stomach refer to actual butterflies in your actual stomach? And my heart’s been very dramatic about you. It’s unsettling, to say the least, knowing how many years you’ve shaved off my life.” Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Jamie’s boss Vivian throws a fit because for the past 8 months, Jamie, Mitch, and Alice have struggled to find their client a match. They all work at Charmed, a match-making company, and Jackson is their most valued client. If they fail, Jamie, Mitch, and Alice will be probably be fired. I loved seeing Alice in this, she is Adrian’s little sister and moved away to start being independent. Jackson was a difficult client who did not meet with them or do the assessments. He wanted a brunette at a specific height with someone in their 30s since he is 35. Alice comes up with an idea for Jamie to go undercover on a date with Jackson so they can see why the dates are going bad. Jamie is 28 and has blonde hair so she wore a brown wig. She waits for Jackson near a pool of an apartment rooftop and has a hidden camera and earpiece. Alice and Mitch give her advice while she waits. While Jamie was whispering to her earpiece, Jackson finds her and asks who she was speaking to. Jackson doesn’t try to create a conversation. He kept checking his watch, he normally comes right at 8PM and leaves at 9PM. Jamie tries to create a conversation but Jackson is hostile and keeps eying her coldly. She introduces herself as Grace and on her profile, she mentions she hates oysters. Jackson orders oysters on purpose but Jamie loves them, they just said that in her profile. Jackson has purposefully had bad dates with people since he didn’t want to find a match. Jamie hated how rude Jackson was being and realized this was why they couldn’t find him a match. She felt so angry since she, Alice, and Mitch spent countless hours working overtime because of him. They were three juniors chosen because Vivian needed someone to blame if this doesn’t work out. So Jamie starts giving Jackson attitude and says that they should eat faster so they can just leave the date early. When Jamie tries to leave, she trips and falls into the pool. Jackson helps save her but has to tear off her dress which is weighing her down. Jamie was naked since she had nothing on underneath and Bensen, Jackson’s worker, had towels ready for her. Jackson lets Jamie go to his apartment and Mabel and Molly greet her, they helped raise Jackson. When Jamie is going to change, Jackson found Jamie’s camera and name tag from Charmed. [image] Jackson tells her to get out, Jamie only had a towel on but runs out. Vivian is furious when she finds out. Minerva, Jackson’s aunt, and Jackson, meet them. Vivian takes Jamie with her thinking they can use her as a punching bag. But Jamie knows she will probably lose her job so she goes off. She tells Minerva that Jackson hasn’t made an effort to get into contact with them. They had no idea why the dates weren’t working, so they decided to go undercover since it's been 8 months. Jamie tells Minerva that Jackson is an asshole and they call him Jack the Ripper. Minerva tells Vivian she wanted transparency but Vivian made it seem like everything was fine. Jamie was pissed since Vivian could have easily told Minerva what they were dealing with. This just shows how some managers are, the toxic ones like to kiss ass to people who are in power while throwing workers under the bus. Minerva was a valued client since Jackson was a well-known billionaire. They didn’t want her to go to a competitor. Jamie says Jackson can have a senior live-in coach. They will study Jackson’s behaviours in normal settings so that they can find people compatible to him and Minerva wants Jamie to do it. Minerva promised that she won’t go to competitors if they don’t find a match for Jackson after a month with Jamie as a coach. Jamie calls Vivian out for overworking them and purposefully choosing three juniors so she can dispose of them if she has to. Vivian tries to threaten Jamie by saying she will fire her if she doesn’t do this but Jamie knows they will lose their company since Minerva will look elsewhere. Jamie says she will do it if Vivian doesn’t mess with Mitch and Alice’s employment, she gets paid half of the advance upfront, and recommendation letters for all three of them when this is over. It was so satisfying seeing Jamie stand up for herself and her coworkers. Vivian agrees and Jamie moves in to Jackson’s apartment home. She brings Toebeans, her cat, and Jackson is annoyed. Mabel and Molly talk about Jackson being sweet but misunderstood. Jackson is annoyed that Toebeans doesn’t like him but refuses to say his name. He was interrupted by the low growl coming from his left. “I’m nowhere near you,” Jackson complained, returning the lethal glare he was being fixed. “Mreor.” “Might I remind you, Cat, that this is my home, and that is my chair.” “MrEAAAARR.” Jackson took two rapid steps back. At first, Jackson makes all of his meetings virtual so that Jamie will have a hard time evaluating him. He barely gives her any information when she asks him for it. Jackson has to go on these dates since his shares went to Minerva’s cat, Harry, after his dad died. Minerva’s condition was Jackson make an effort to go on dates for a month and she will give him his shares. But now the conditions changed, she wants him married and to have a kid before she gives him his shares. Jamie calls Jackson a hard-boiled egg and starts eating it in front of him. So he eats smelly food to piss her off, they were both so petty. Whenever Jamie insults Jackson, he seems amused by it. Jackson tells Jamie he isn’t interested in love and plans on having an open marriage. If they have to have a kid, he won’t have sex with his wife and will do it another way. Jackson offers Jamie a million dollars for her to fake the evaluation results. When Jamie refuses, he offers twenty million dollars. Jamie is tempted but told him she liked her job since she believed in love. Jackson insults her job and Jamie continues to bring it up and Jackson feels bad about it. I love when Ria and Jamie hold their men accountable. Jamie has seen true love from her parents and Ria and Adrian. Adrian and Ria got married and are on a honeymoon. Ria and Jamie lived together for 10 years but Ria moved in with Adrian. They both cried and Adrian felt bad so he gave Jamie a place at his house when she visits and even a place for Toebeans. “When did you even have the time to make this happen?” I asked. “I was at my desk all afternoon. What else would I have been doing?” I blinked up at him. “Working.” “Don’t be ridiculous, Jamie.” When Jamie refused Jackson’s money, Jackson asks to take her on a date since Jamie believed Jackson didn’t know how to date women. Mabel and Molly drop by Jamie’s suite at night. They wanted Jamie to find Jackson a match since he was lonely his whole life. Bensen drops off a dress at Jamie’s suite and all the workers are giggling and fangirling, they all wanted Jackson to find love. Jackson knocks on her door with shoes, he bought all the sizes since he didn’t know her shoe size. He was so charming and flirty, Jamie was surprised since he was always cold. Jackson took her on a helicopter to meet Jamie’s celebrity crush who was a chef named Daniel to cook them dinner. Jamie starts fangirling and Jackson realized he miscalculated since Jamie’s attention was focused on Daniel. Daniel is from a famous reality show that Jamie is obsessed with. Jackson starts touching Jamie’s back and Jamie focused on his touch and ignores Daniel. Daniel is upset about the disinterest but when Jamie realized she was being rude, so she gave him her full attention. Jamie said she was Jackson’s dating coach. Daniel says he is interested in going to Charmed and gives his business card. When they get home, Jamie tries to take her dress off and slips and falls. A mirror falls and she is stuck on the ground. Jackson picks Jamie up and carries her to his room. He picks glass out from her hair and was super soft with her. He helps her out of the dress and gives her his clothes to wear. Ever since then, Jackson starts fighting for Jamie’s attention. He finds out that Toebeans loves Adrian. When Jackson feels jealous, he calls people by the wrong name to be petty. He finds out Adrian had a separate place for Toebeans and how Toebeans loves him. So he builds a cardboard cat palace in a suite with his scent and pictures of himself everywhere, his voice even comes on, he wanted Toebeans to like him. Jackson mentions how it is rare for someone to want him for him, everyone is after him for his money. He went on multiple dates hoping for someone to be rude to him since that would mean they are honest. He was an asshole but all 67 dates wanted him. Jamie was the first to break the cycle. He kisses her and they makeout but Mabel walks in. Jackson asks to marry Jamie but she says they can’t marry since she doesn’t want what he wants and it will go against her job. Jackson strutted into the suite, all arrogance. “Adderall might have built Cat a room full of intricate toys and accessories, but if Cat is anything like Harry, then he’s significantly more interested in the boxes those toys come in.” “You know his name is Adrien.” Jackson frowned at me. “Then why did you tell me it was Toebeans?” Jackson loved acts of service and is affectionate to Jamie. He starts being needy for her attention. Jamie tries pushing back but can’t help her attraction for Jackson. Jackson managed to make Jamie pass out from orgasms and gives her aftercare. Jamie wakes up naked and snuggled up against Jackson. They meet Minerva who is pissed since she found out that Jackson has been doing virtual meetings. Jamie defends Jackson’s work ethic and says he has made the company a lot better. Imogan is a tarot reader, she throws hints that someone with marks on their body or tattoos in relation to a letter “D” will be in Jamie’s life. Jamie thinks that it is Daniel. Molly and Mabel tell Jamie that Jackson needs friends. Jamie tells Jackson they can be friends without the physical stuff. Jackson starts playfully asking questions about being friends which was adorable. [image] Jackson managed to get Toebeans to like him. Jamie thinks if they fuck and get it out of their systems. Jackson continues to insist that he wants to marry Jamie. Jamie tells him to stop with the aftercare and affection since she doesn’t want to fall for him, but Jackson says those are his kinks. He loves spoiling Jamie, all kinks he started having after meeting her, similar to Adrian. He randomly asks for her safe word which was “Strawberry” kinda like Adrian with Ria. He says he will give Jamie everything, saying they need to be married for a year and then they can move on. They start fucking nonstop and all the staff know to avoid them. Jamie gets texts from Molly and Mabel who tell her how to enter a secret library that Jackson has locked up. When she gets inside, there are drawings all over the room. There is a secret stairwell with a piano since Jamie used to play in there. Molly and Mabel hid 4 journals for Jamie to read. The journals detail the life that Jackson had lived and it had me in tears. Jackson was emotionally and physically abused by his alcoholic father. His dad was obsessed with his mom but his mom was always cheating on him. She constantly insulted Jackson and they didn’t let him live freely. They didn’t let him draw or play the piano, he was forbidden to do it. He didn’t celebrate his birthdays or have friends. Mabel and Molly secretly had this room for Jackson to let loose, they raised him and looked out for him. Bensen was fired since he called CPS on Jackson’s dad after he found out about cigarette burns. But when they threatened to leave him bankrupt, he gave up since he had a family to feed. Once Jackson got older, he rehired Bensen and all the staff that were fired. Jackson had a lonely life and doesn’t believe in love because of the way he was treated. His mom left him and only called about the company shares. Jamie cries and goes to Jackson who was busy in the kitchen attempting to make her sushi. He was desperate for her to marry him that he learned to make sushi. He was jealous since Daniel was a famous sushi chef and wanted to impress Jamie. Jackson hates seeing her cry and stops what he is doing. “Have you been crying?” His thumb brushed my cheek, wiping away a phantom tear. I swallowed. “Remember what I said about affection?” “Why were you crying, Jamie?” “It’s not a big deal.” “Did something happen?” “People cry for no reason all the time.” “That’s bullshit. Tell me what’s wrong.” Jamie realized Jackson was never treated well by anyone other than the people who work for him or want something from him. She hugs him while telling him all of his great qualities. Jackson is confused, but he snuggles into Jamie like a cat and listens to her complimenting him. When Jamie mentions finding him another match, he says no since he wants her. Jamie says she will be his friend and look out for him. She goes to meet Daniel since she is catching feelings for Jackson. Jamie thinks Imogan meant Daniel was the person she was looking for since his name started with a D and he had tattoos. Before she can meet Daniel, Jackson kisses her and tells her to come back to him. Jamie keeps things professional with Daniel. Once she gets home, Jackson kisses her and takes her to the library. He is pissed she was in there but shows her scars on his chest with the shape of a D. It was cigarette burns and D was for discipline, made by his asshole father. When Jackson asks her to marry again, she says okay. But she wants to stop the physical stuff since he is easy to fall in love with. She tells him to tell her that he won’t fall in love with her. So he tells her that he will never fall in love with her. Jamie’s heart breaks and she needs space to get over him. [image] Jamie has to shadow Jackson on his dates and Jackson didn’t look at her once. Before his last date with his most compatible match, Jamie finds Jackson drunk. Jackson talked to a random person about how Jamie is the most beautiful person and that she is his. Jackson hugs Jamie and wouldn’t let go until Jamie saw his date. Jamie watched while they laughed and her heart broke. But Jackson started to watch Jamie during the date. So his date pulls his head towards hers and Jamie walks away, not wanting to see them kiss. Jackson follows her and says he didn’t kiss her. He holds her face and says he can’t do this since Jamie is who he wants. But Jamie says they can’t be together since she will be fired and black-listed from the industry for having a relationship with a client. While Jackson holds her, his date followed them and took a picture. She blackmails Jackson to marry her or she will send the picture out. They meet with Vivian and Minerva comes with Jackson. Minerva says that Jamie didn’t touch Jackson in the picture and Jackson says he has wanted Jamie to marry him but she has been refusing. Vivian says that Jamie should have told HR. But Jackson defends her and Minerva deals with Vivian. Jackson admits he lied to Jamie and does love her but he was scared to admit it. Minerva helps Jamie get a job at a competing company to Charmed. Jackson and Jamie agree to marry and Jamie takes him to meet Ria and Adrian. Jackson is jealous when he sees Adrian and Toebeans cuddling together. Jamie and Jackson remarry a year later. Jamie doesn’t know if she wants kids but Jackson doesn’t care, all he wants is for them to be together. This book was so fucking cute, I loved Jamie and Jackson. All the missing things I felt in the book In Love and War were all here. We got perfect pacing, good chemistry, the banter was chef’s kiss and the comedy was perfect, I was laughing the whole time. The FMC Ria and the MMC Adrian were perfect for each other, they just matched each other’s energies. I cannot wait to read the next book since it is Ria’s bestie Jamie who is also hilarious. I loved the family moments and the friendship moments but most of all, the romance. Kyra Parsi is amazing and I love that she is Canadian hehe. [image] Ria mistook Adrian for being the person that groped her at a Halloween event. In retaliation, she hit his junk and cost him a $700 million investment deal. Ria is desperate to make things right since Adrian fired her sister. But Adrian plans to torment Ria, he wants Ria to be available to him 24/7. Ria can’t stand him but will do anything to help her sister get her job back. “You’re so fucking pretty it’s annoying,” he chided, his voice dropping to a low, molten gravel. “I hate how much I love looking at you. I hate it, Sanchez. Ria is drunk and mistook Adrian for being the guy and hits him in the dick with her cane. Someone was filming and the post went viral but Ria was confident Adrian wouldn’t know who she was since she was wearing a costume. She worked at his company for 2 years but he doesn’t know her. Ria’s sister Alba is his personal assistant. Alba is pissed since she knows Adrian will lose it. Alba is heavily pregnant and is supposed to go on maternity leave soon. Sadly Adrian’s workers find Ria and lock her in his office since he figured out it was her. Ria decides to open a box Adrian has on the ground. The box was a glitter bomb, it said the words “Fuck you Adrian” in it and Ria was covered in glitter. The person who sent it had a blind date with Adrian 8 months ago and is pissed with him. Adrian walks in, it was so funny seeing her argue with him while covered in glitter. He fires her and Ria doesn’t care much, she thought he would do worse and leaves. Ria lives with her ride or die bestie Jamie who has a cat named Toebeans. They were so hilarious together, I love Jamie so much. Ria finds out that Alba was fired by Adrian. Since Ria used Alba’s company card to access Adrian’s company building (where she hit Adrian with the cane), Alba was blamed. She was fired with no severance or maternity pay despite being at the company for 4 years. Ria despised Adrian, especially since he overworked her sister and made Alba miss her daughter’s birthday. Alba had one favour she could call in and when she heard Adrian was going to press charges against Ria, she begged him not to. Ria is pissed and goes to Adrian’s office to make things right. [image] Adrian is amused to see Ria at his office. She asks him to give Ria’s job back and he tells her to beg. Ria is so tempted to throw his cactus at him but obliges. Adrian tells her to come on Monday with tweezers. Ria uses a magnifying glass and tweezers to get rid of all the glitter in 22 hours. Once Adrian is back, he uses the magnifying glass and finds glitter on his plant. Adrian says she failed and tries to send her away but she knows he called her in for a reason. Adrian tells Ria he will need her to work for him for a month 24/7. He refuses to give her his number so she asks how she can get to him in short notice. He says that he has an apartment for her in his building. Jamie doesn’t hesitate to move in with Ria in the new apartment. Once Ria is moved in, Adrian knocks on her door which she purposefully takes long to answer. They always bicker but he sees Toebeans and asks to cuddle her. Toebeans snuggles into Adrian and it was so funny seeing Ria feel betrayed and call the cat a slut. Finding out that Adrian was allergic to cats later on made this moment so cute. Jamie apologizes for moving in without telling him. Adrian says it was Ria’s responsibility to tell him and is polite with Jamie. Adrian tells Ria to meet him at 4AM for his morning jog since he needs someone to carry his water bottle. “Adrien’s dark eyes narrowed as they slid back to my face. “You have a cat?” I let my head slant to the side. “Do I?” “He’s very fat.” Excuse me? “And you blink like a lizard. What’s your point?” Of course Adrian was lying about the timing and stood Ria up for an hour. Ria tries to ask the staff in the building to talk to Adrian. The staff think Ria is a weird stalker and handcuff her in a room and make her wait for Adrian. Adrian finds the whole thing hilarious and comes an hour later. He makes Ria jog and she feels like dying but keeps up with him. He has her wear a watch that has a butler bell on it. The watch vibrates and rings when he needs her with instructions. Ria is so pissed and will insult him or do small petty things to get back at him which he found amusing. He asked for super hot coffee and she would purposefully put ice in it. Adrian called Ria out for lying to him since he noticed her left nostril flares up when she does and it was so funny how Ria tried to stop it from happening. Ria mods his online hate club but finds a death threat letter to Adrian and feels bad. She deletes her account and carries spray in case someone will attack them. [image] Adrian tells Ria that she will be going with him to Victoria BC for a week. Adrian got Toebeans a cat tower and Ria kept thinking that Jamie and Adrian would end up together. When Ria gets to the flight, Adrian takes out an engagement ring saying that he needs her to act like his fiancé for a week. His mom keeps setting him up on blind dates and he is tired of them. Ria wants to refuse but Adrian says he will give Alba her job back with maternity pay. Ria’s only condition was that they have separate rooms. Ria feels like shit for lying to his family and feels like they won’t be believable since they can’t stand each other but Adrian says they will be fine. They go to a mansion where his family lives and I love all of them. Julie is his protective and loving mom, she was open to meeting Ria. Adrian had a little sister named Alice who he called Lice, they bicker like actual siblings which I found cute. His dad was Anthony and used to own the company but left it to focus on his family. Grampy was his grandpa who was sweet and they had a sassy parrot named Maxwell who Alice would argue with. They were all so welcoming to Ria and were happy to see Adrian finally with someone. “Every single thing that comes out of your mouth annoys the ever-loving shit out of me, Adrien. Like, to the point where it’s shaving years off my life. My blood pressure has never been this consistently high.” When they get to the house, Adrian finds out that they had to share a room in the mansion. Ria wants to leave but Adrian says he will sleep on the floor. He thinks that if he acts like he has a fiancé, once they break up, his mom will give him more time to be single. Ria asked him what she needs to know about him and he gives her basic facts. He already had her stuff memorized from his background checks. When they went to bed, Adrian slept on the floor while Ria slept on the bed. It was hilarious seeing him wake up and get scared of Ria. “You look like the girl from The Ring with your hair down like that. Scared the shit out of me.” “That might be the rudest fucking thing anyone’s ever said to me this early in the morning.” “You sound like her too,” he grumbled. Ria decides to go on a jog but Adrian follows her and she is annoyed. She talks about liking romance books with blue aliens and cinnamon rolls. Adrian asked Ria why she hates him. I fucking loved how Ria called him out for being a terrible boss. She stood up for her sister, saying he barely gave her holidays and even took her away from her daughter’s birthday. Adrian feels like shit and said he barely talked to Alba and had no idea but he will make things right. When they are in front of family, they stuck with hugs or hand holding. Adrian’s mom takes Ria out shopping and Ria feels so guilty. Ria tells Adrian he can return the stuff later but he doesn’t care for it. She had her hair done and Adrian kept playing with it. Adrian flirted with Ria and was convinced that Ria would fall into his lap if he seduces her. Ria says it's a bet and if he loses, he has to pay her sister double her maternity leave and give her proper days off. I loved how she always made sure to think about her sister. Adrian wanted to know why Ria didn’t go to college since she was doing well but Ria didn’t want to tell him. So he said if he wins, he wants to know. He always calls her out for staring and it flustered Ria but she would say he was staring back. The bet was set until the pizza his parents ordered arrived. Adrian asked what Ria’s safe word was and it was clear he was into BDSM, his was more light. What I loved was that he purposefully lost the bet so that he would have to pay Alba but he also seduced Ria. He didn’t tell Ria the pizza arrived and touched her neck and talked about how pretty she was while getting close, playing with her hair. The whole scene made me get butterflies in my stomach. [image] Ria is so hot and bothered that Adrian managed to get to her and wanted revenge. So she wore the lingerie that they bought when she went shopping. Adrian is pissed and tells her to change and she doesn’t. In the morning, he leaves early and comes back with cinnamon rolls with raisins in them, he knows Ria hates raisins. He kisses Ria in front of everyone and she is so flustered so she tries insulting him. While she does, he shoves the cinnamon rolls into her mouth, it was hilarious. Everyone was confused so Adrian takes Ria into another room. They makeout and Adrian says that he can’t do this anymore. He will give her the chance to leave but if she stays, he will do what he wants with her. Ria was close to leaving but came back since she wanted to know if her feelings during the kiss were normal. She tells Adrian to let her kiss him. He says he is a human with feelings but is amused after he sees how shy she is. I loved how he would constantly tell her how pretty she is after all of this. Ria tells him to keep his hands to himself and kisses him. There is tension and Adrian backs her into a wall and asks for her consent if she wants him to touch her. She gives it and they fuck that night and things arent the same since then. They cuddle and it was cute how they always laughed and flirted. [image] Adrian’s whole family heard them fucking and Alice sprays Adrian with water while Grampy tells her to move Adrian and Ria away from each other. Adrian takes Ria on a date and lets kids paint him blue, buys fangs, horns, and a tail to reenact Ria’s alien romance books. He asks if she wants to go on more dates with him in the future but Ria believes they won’t last. Adrian wanted more for their relationship but Ria never believed him. They would spend days flirting and have sex at night. Adrian constantly asked Ria why she didn’t study after high school. Ria thought it was because he didn’t think she was good enough but Adrian says he doesn’t care about her education. He just felt like things didn’t add up since she had a criminal record. Ria refused to tell him but Adrian opened up to her about why he treated Alba bad. Adrian had an old assistant who violated his privacy. The assistant secretly took pictures of Adrian and posted it online. He posted Adrian’s phone number and address which was why Adrian didn’t give his phone number out. He found a lollipop with a lock of his hair in the assistant’s desk and fired him. Ever since then, he kept things distant with Alba and didn’t give her any personal information. Ria finds out that Adrian had an old fiancé named Mandy who he was engaged to 14 months ago. Mandy would be at the mansion for Adrian’s parents’ anniversary party. Adrian tells Ria that Alba found out Mandy was cheating on him with his cousin on Halloween. He worked his ass off to make a deal with investors in Japan so he was already devastated by the cheating news. People at the company didn’t think Adrian deserved the position and he wanted to prove them wrong. So when Ria pulled the stunt she did, he was done and that’s why he acted the way he did. He lost $700 million since the investors pulled out after seeing the video. He owned up and apologized but Ria does as well. She then finds out that the cousin Mandy cheated with was named Josh. Josh had made Ria’s life a living hell. She felt so betrayed by Adrian because she realized that he wanted to be with her to get revenge on Mandy while also getting revenge on Ria. Adrian always knew who Ria was since Josh always bragged about Ria when he was younger. Adrian saw pictures on Alba’s desk and realized Ria was Alba’s sister and saw her around the company. When Ria pulled her stunt, he thought that he was killing two birds with one stone. He would hurt Ria by bringing her to see Josh while hurting Josh and Mandy when they see Ria. He never wanted to go through with the plan since he was falling for Ria. Ria says she wants to leave and Adrian says that Josh and Mandy are already at their place. He didn’t know when to tell her and Ria has a breakdown. [image] Ria is angry with Adrian and says they are done. She runs into Josh and Mandy, they find out Adrian and Ria are engaged. Josh makes a comment about Ria’s father dying in a car accident. Ria leaves and tells Adrian she did well in school and went to a private school. Her mom left her when she was 2 and her dad raised her on his own, he was deaf. Ria wasn’t treated well since she was poor and her dad was a janitor at her school. She dated Josh for 6 months but she was sick and tired of his comments about her family’s income and class. She dumped him and he started to bully her. He put shit in her locker and when it didn’t get a reaction, Josh and his friends pissed into the mop bucket her dad was gonna use. They started videotaping her dad while waving and her dad couldn’t hear so he waved back smiling. Ria was so angry that she dumped the mop bucket into Josh’s car after breaking the windows. Ria was taken out of the school and lost her scholarship, she was so smart but wasn’t able to apply to any schools since Josh’s dad had connections and made it impossible for Ria. Ria’s dad worked two jobs hoping to help Ria and got into a car accident after hitting a tree where he died, Ria blames herself. She believes her dad overworked himself for her and hates herself. She’s lived her life frozen because of it and she tells Adrian she is done with him. The managers of the airport try to give Ria a place to stay for free cuz of Adrian but she doesn’t want anything from him. Gramps managed to lure Ria to his private plane and got Adrian to show up too. Gramps tells Ria that Adrian beat up Josh and got Josh’s father in trouble for the admissions thing. Adrian worked tirelessly to help Ria with her education since he had a feeling she still longed for it. Adrian told his family everything and despite it all, they believe Ria and Adrian truly like each other. He tries to talk to Ria but she leaves. He texts her for the first time and says he is sorry but she blocks his number. Once she gets back to Jamie, she tells Jamie they need to go back to their old apartment. Ria is depressed in bed for days and Jamie forces her out of bed. I loved Ria’s friendship with Jamie and how they look out for each other. Alba tells Ria that Adrian met her in person and apologized for how he treated her. He is giving her triple the maternity pay and said she can have her job back. He said she can have holidays and weekends off and gave her a cap on hours. Alba tells Ria to apply to universities again. She had the cheques ready with the applications and even a placement with a law office. Ria knew this was all cuz of Adrian and goes to yell at him. She tells Adrian not to interfere in her life. It hurt when she said he was just a guy she fucked but I was so glad she told him he is stupid for believing that lie. Adrian asks if she ate and she says no. So he takes her out and feeds her fries while she yells at him and holds her hand the whole time. Once he gets to her apartment, Adrian says he will always be waiting. Ria leaves but sees the pictures they took when he acted like an alien and sent him the picture. He hearts it blue and sends his which was stashed in his wallet. Ria realized he was still in his car downstairs so she runs down. She kisses him and they’re back together. Ria gets a placement and goes to Adrian’s office to thank him. They were both so happy and their banter never got old. I can’t wait to read Jamie’s book and see how Ria looks out for her. Ria and Adrian made me laugh my ass off with their bickering. This book was just so fucking good y’all, I can’t stop smiling. “Do you have feelings for me, Sanchez?” Th-thump th-thump th-thump. “Absolutely yes, Cloutier,” I whispered. I wanted to rate this 5 stars but it felt like it was missing some things. I loved the FMC Amelia or Milly, she is so petty and sassy, she matched the energy of the MMC Zac. Zac was your typical cold-hearted boss that was hot. He didn’t have much of a personality but that was cuz we didn’t see many conversations between Milly and Zac. I feel like the meaningful conversations happened near the end of the book. The conversations they had throughout the story were very surface-level or brushed over as a summary. Zac and Milly’s relationship felt more insta-lovey, I wish they had more of a connection. The ending was rushed, I would have liked to see more past the ending since I had questions. Despite all of that, this book made me laugh and had me smiling, it was so much fun to read and I look forward to reading more by this author. [image] Milly had an internship at her father’s company Bloom & Co where he promised she would be CEO one day. But after working under Zac for her internship, things go bad and she vows to take Zac down. 7 years later, Milly is back and is ready to take Zac down. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Milly is 17 and her dad lets her work as an intern at his company Bloom & Co. He promised that she can be CEO when she is older. He tells Zac to manage her and Zac is 24 at the time, Milly is instantly attracted to him. At first I was like oh hell no not an age gap like this, but luckily there is a time jump. Milly thinks she is early to work but Zac had emailed her to come at 6AM, she showed up at 7:52AM. Zac is cold with Milly and even though she does her best, she keeps messing up. He has lengthy instructions and is very particular about how he wants things. He was upset about how she coloured his tabs and hired another intern since Milly couldn’t finish everything. Milly would get his coffee early since Zac came early and left late, he was a workaholic. Milly tries to vent to the other interns but they tell her that she is lucky to work under Zac since he is so talented. Zac has made many employees cry and was creating a hostile work environment. I was hoping Milly would talk to him about this in the future but that never happens. He goes from workaholic to lovestruck. But I get why he is cold to Milly since Milly is spoiled. He worked from the bottom to the top meanwhile Milly did nothing. [image] Zac had messaged Milly asking her to finish a presentation that was part of a big project. Milly misread the due date and panicked when he texted her to have the stuff on his desk. Zac wasn’t in office since his mother was in an accident and is in a terrible mood. Milly rushes to get it done and does a half-assed presentation instead of telling him she misread the due date. Zac saw her submission and gets angry at Milly. He told her that she should have told him if she didn’t have the work done. He tells Milly that she is fired and that he has already talked to HR. Milly tells him that he is an asshole and it's impossible working with him. I’m not gonna lie, I could see why Milly told him this. He was cold and micromanaged everything. Milly had seen someone walk out of Zac’s office upset. Zac tells her to pack her things and called out all the mistakes Milly made. He said that Milly was treated way better than other interns since she was her father’s daughter and had so many chances. Milly goes to complain to her dad and Zac comes in. Milly says that Zac is an asshole and mentions how people cry under Zac’s management, mentioning one of the girls by name. Zac gets uncomfortable and when Milly’s dad questions Zac, Zac says it wasn’t work related. Milly’s dad says they have a strict policy against relationships between workers and Zac says he knows. Til the end of the book, we never find out what that was about. The interns think that Zac was in a bad mood because he and his girlfriend would get into fights. But we never find out more of this either, we barely learn about Zac in this book. Zac tells Milly’s dad about Milly’s disappointing work performance. Milly’s dad says that he wanted Zac to treat Milly like a normal worker since he thinks he spoiled Milly too much. He wants Milly to earn her place at the company since he wants a CEO who deserves the position. He takes back what he said of Milly getting the position and Milly realized that Zac’s goal was to become the CEO. Milly is pissed and vows to become CEO and take down Zac. [image] 7 years later, Milly is now 24 and has gotten education and experience. She worked at another company called Yuval for her boss David who adored her. But she left the company to come back to Toronto to work for her father’s company. She had to apply to Bloom & Co like any other person and was hired by Margaret. Margaret is one of the directors of marketing and the other is Zac. Milly was told by her dad to go apologize to Zac for how things ended years ago. Milly goes to Zac and is petty, saying he aged like milk while he threw his comebacks at her. He makes her apologize and their interaction had me giggling cuz of their banter. Milly’s father made sure that Milly’s office was next to Zac’s. Zac and Milly had clear walls so she was able to see him. They had a feature to make the glass opaque but they barely use it. Zac comes into Milly’s office, he always calls Milly by her full name, “Amelia” which pisses her off. In turn, she calls him “Zackery” to fuck with him. He says they can leave their history in the past and respect each other. But when Milly says no, Zac says he has her performance evaluation from years ago and will show Margaret. Milly says fine and Zac looks at her lips and I thought it was too soon for that shit. [image] Milly works hard and put plants in the way of the walls so that Zac couldn’t see her well. She named him El Diablo on her phone and would avoid him. Zac was working on a big project and they had to partner up with Yuval, Milly’s old company. Zac needed to work with another person and David, Milly’s old boss, insisted that it be Milly. Milly’s dad tells Milly that she will need to work with Zac on this project but Zac doesn’t trust her. Zac meets with Milly to tell her about the project and can see how much Milly has changed, she works her ass off. They start working in the same office and Milly hasn’t eaten so he orders tacos. They have a mundane conversation where Milly finds out that Zac was taken to this taco store by Milly’s dad when he was 10 years old. Milly tries asking Zac how he knew her dad but Zac refused to tell her. This was the problem with this book, Zac refused to answer most of Milly’s questions while learning about Milly. Milly’s mother had died in a car accident. Her father was dealing with grief so he didn’t spend much time with Milly. Milly wanted to work at her dad’s company so she can see her dad more. Milly asks her dad how he knew Zac at a young age. Zac’s mother used to work at the company as a cleaner. Zac would hang around the company and Milly’s dad introduced himself. One day, Zac asked Milly’s dad for a job since scary people would call his home and he heard his mom crying, he was only 10. Milly’s dad felt bad and made an agreement with him when they went out to get tacos. He promised Zac a job if he focuses on his studies and said he would give his mom a raise if it was all a secret. Since Zac was in school, they met up for tacos sometimes. Milly had respect for Zac after this. [image] Milly starts to fall for Zac even though they’ve barely opened up to each other. She starts avoiding him and when their company goes out for drinks, Zac sits with her. He confronts her on avoiding him and Milly drinks to avoid answering him. He gives her a ride home and she falls on her way out of the car. Zac holds her while he says her name “Amelia”. She tells him to stop saying her full name since he says it like he owns her. Zac hints that he does own her but snaps out of it and Milly goes home. All of this happened too suddenly for me, I feel like it would have been nice to see deeper conversations take place before any of this. The attraction felt a bit forced, especially on Zac’s end. Milly has always had a crush on Zac and found him attractive. She lost those feelings when he fired her but the feelings started coming back after she heard about his past. Milly and Zac work together and they have funny banter but not enough conversations where they get to know each other. I wanted to know his dating history and her dating history. All we know is Milly finds dating rough and fucked someone 4-5 months ago. [image] Zac and Milly go to New York to meet David for the project. David is sweet with Milly, he is around Zac’s age but calls Milly kiddo. Zac is jealous and is cold with Milly because of it. Zac says it might be better for Milly to leave the company and go back to Yuval which hurts Milly. It’s clearly cuz Zac is starting to feel things for her and wants a relationship with her but they can’t date when in the same company (even though they barely know each other). Milly is used to giving ideas to David during meetings. During Zac and David’s meeting, David asks for her opinion and Milly gives a great idea. When David makes plans to eat with Milly, Zac says they have work to do. Milly meets Zac at his suite and he has her idea in the presentation and says she can present it. Milly is more nervous around Zac since she is starting to have feelings for him. They have the presentation and it goes well but when David asks Milly out to dinner, Zac gets pissy with Milly. She tries to ask him what is wrong but he leaves her. So Milly goes to his suite and asks him what is wrong, he was acting immature here. Zac is an asshole and brings her into his suite and they argue. Zac asks about Milly’s date with David since she is meeting him later that night and says he is pissed he has to work with her of all people. He says that David probably asked for Milly to be involved because he likes her and asks if she fucked him. She is pissed since he discredited all her work and insinuated she fucked her way to the top. I love that Milly stands up for herself since Zac pissed me off here, he does apologize later though. They argue and he kisses her and they makeout. They get interrupted since some staff heard noise complaints since they were yelling and once that guy was gone, Milly leaves. [image] Milly meets with David who was actually gay. When Zac asked about the date, Milly was petty and said David finished what Zac started. The next day Milly avoids Zac and once their meeting is over, Milly leaves. Zac tells Milly to go to his suite and wait for him. When he meets Milly, he asks if she will tell her dad about the kiss. He says if she doesn’t, they can fuck and not tell anyone. So Milly says she won’t and they fuck. Milly tells Zac that David was gay and she never slept with him. The second it's over, Milly leaves while Zac calls after her. Milly forgot her underwear so she asks Zac for it the next day. He was concerned he hurt her but Milly said she didn’t so he teases her about her underwear and refuses to give it back. He sends her a picture of it so she goes to his suite. He pours her wine and tells her to look for it. She gives up looking and drinks with him and he says he will give it back if she answers his questions. In these situations, it annoyed me how she would try asking him questions and he never answered her. He asks why she came to his suite after he left and she says she was curious about what would happen between them. He asks her why she left the second they fucked and makes out with him to distract him. He gets them pizza and they watch a movie together, he doesn’t wanna fuck her when she is drunk. Milly fell asleep and woke up to Zac cuddling her. She tries to get up but he says he won’t let her run away which was so cute. In the morning, he left a note saying he will see her in Toronto since he has an early flight. [image] Milly tells her bestie Kai that she fucked Zac since Kai knew something was up. Kai knows that Zac fired Milly in the past and how Milly wanted to take him down. So Kai said this would be a good opportunity for her to tell her dad but Milly doesn’t want to. Milly goes to her home for a family get-together and Zac is there with her dad. Monica, Milly’s cousin, flirts with Zac and Milly is used to Monica stealing all the men she is interested in. She is jealous and goes to her childhood room. Zac notices she is gone and finds her in her room and they end up fucking on her bed. Milly knows she is falling for Zac and she feels jealous when she sees girls flirting with him at work. Monica shows up and she is upset that Monica is flirting with Zac. She leaves to get tacos and sees her dad there. Milly makes sly comments thinking Monica is out with Zac but her dad says she isn’t Zac’s type. You can tell that Milly’s dad ships Milly and Zac, he says that Zac is suited with someone who challenges him, which is clearly Milly. Zac visits Milly, asking what was wrong. Milly says nothing so he drives her home. Milly cries and says they need to end things because it won’t work out. Zac barely gets a word in and she thinks that he wants to be with Monica and fuck her on the side. It was so stupid, this just showed that Milly and Zac barley know each other. Zac stays parked at Milly’s place for three hours and it concerns the security so they ask Milly if they should ask Zac to leave since they saw her leave his car upset. Milly runs down and brings Zac back to his apartment. [image] Zac apologizes to Milly for insinuating she fucked her way to the top and thinks she is a beautiful, smart, woman. He says that he liked Milly since she came back. His mom worked at the company and was threatened by loan sharks because of his dad. His dad took a debt in his mom’s name and abandoned them. His dad recently contacted Zac once he found out Zac is a director and has a good salary. He apologized for being harsh to Milly when she was a kid but his mom got into an accident and she didn’t wake up at the time, she is fine now. He values his job at the company and he wants Milly to work somewhere else so that their relationship could work. This was why he made that comment in New York, not because he hates her. But he knows they both want to work at the company and says Milly is right for wanting to end things. This was the first time we truly see Zac opening up to Milly, I wish we had more conversations like this. Milly tells him they should have one more night together and they cuddle. Milly has a nightmare, she wakes up to Zac holding her. Once the alarm rings, Zac kisses her and leaves. Milly and Zac avoid each other for a month and keep things professional between each other. Margaret and Zac do Milly’s performance evaluation. Margaret says Milly did amazing and when she meets Zac, he praises her and Milly’s heart is broken all over again. She accidentally takes his phone during the meeting so he has hers. Zac’s assistant brings Milly’s phone and asks for Zac’s phone. Milly is confused as to why Zac didn’t come himself. But then she sees that Zac read a message Kai sent where he said that Milly can whistleblow on Zac and tell her dad about Zac fucking her. Milly tries calling him to tell him the truth but he wouldn’t answer. [image] When she goes work, Zac has been gone for a week. Milly gets a call from her dad’s assistant who tells Milly that Zac gave his two-week notice. Milly goes to her dad and her dad already knows what is going on but needs Milly to admit it. Zac admitted they broke the company’s policies by getting into a relationship but didn’t elaborate. Milly lies and says that she blackmailed Zac into saying that so she can become CEO and fire him. Her dad asks if she truly wants to go this route and Milly says yes but her dad knows it is a lie. Milly says she was offered a job by David in New York and will be going there and is giving her notice so that Zac can come back. Milly admits to being stupidly in love with Zac. Zac heard the whole thing and her dad apologized for not being there for Milly enough and says Zac is on the phone on speaker. Zac comes back and Milly and Zac make up, he says he loves her too. Milly’s dad changes the company policies so that they can date. He doesn’t accept their resignations and they are both happy and the book ends. While I found all of this cute, we still don’t know who ends up becoming CEO. Zac’s goal seemed to be wanting to be CEO and Milly’s was as well. They never had conversations related to this or Milly’s hard work in the past. I also wondered how Zac and Millie would navigate the workplace as a couple. But this book ended abruptly so we don’t get to see that. I still loved this book and had fun with it but would have loved to see more. I originally read two books from her Horde King series and loved them. I was super wary about reading alien romances before that but she got me into the genre. Her writing is beautiful and I loved the story. One thing I will say was there was too much BBS so it took away from the angst for me. I originally loved the story idea but once the BBS played a role, it kinda got me annoyed despite the smut being good. I love the FMC Gemma and the MMC Azur but they didn’t stick out to me as much as the characters from the Horde King series. I’m gonna try my best to summarize what I understood from this story and the world but if I got things wrong, lemme know. Overall it was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone looking for something new. [image] Gemma’s family is drowning in debt thanks to her father’s poor decisions. She is doing everything she can to protect her sisters as the eldest daughter from the House of Hara. But then an opportunity comes up, if Gemma marries someone, they will pay her money and could help get rid of her debt. The problem is, her future husband is a Kylorr, one of the most feared species from the Four Quadrants in her world. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Gemma lives in a planet called New Everton in a place called the Collis. Gemma’s father has been irresponsible with his money, has an addiction to gambling, and he is an alcoholic. Gemma has been managing their mining company so that they can get rid of their debt. Mr. Cross, this toxic marriage broker, offers Gemma a deal. He says that a Kylorr from a planet called Krynn would like to marry her. He lives in a territory called the Kaalium and would pay anything to have Gemma as his wife. Gemma has two sisters named Piper and Mira who have no idea about the debt. Gemma feels that she lost her value as a woman since she is 30 but her little sisters were younger and she wanted to protect them. Sorj (he’s a Killup which is kinda like a merman), a miner that works for Gemma’s family and Mira’s lowkey boyfriend, came to tell Gemma that the miners have not been paid. Gemma’s father said he would use their wages to invest in some other bullshit. When Gemma confronts her father, he tells her to stop overreacting. Mira is more understanding meanwhile Piper is annoyed with Gemma. Piper wants to show off to some rich family to impress someone but Gemma told her that the person is engaged already. Piper insults Gemma saying that Gemma is jealous that she doesn’t have a chance with the person. Gemma’s father says that he heard from Mr.Cross that Gemma had a marriage offer. He knows that this person will pay off their debts and tells Gemma she has no choice but to marry them. When Gemma tells him that it is a Kylorr, Gemma’s father is shocked but says she has to marry him anyway. Sorj told Gemma that the Kylorr’s were the most feared species and are the closest thing to berserkers. They thrive on bloodshed and there was a war against them years ago. Sorj said that Kaalium is one of the wealthiest territories in their universe and that was where lore came from. Lore was a type of drug that was high in demand and had a lot of value, it affected each species differently. Gemma decides that she will sacrifice herself for the family and marry the Kylorr, even if it means she might die (she thinks the Kylorr might kill her). [image] Gemma’s father fought in the Pe’ji War for the United Alliance against the Kylorr and was awarded for his service, he was called a hero and got their house as a reward. There is even a mountain named after him. Gemma tells Mr. Cross she will marry the Kylorr for 400,000 vron. 200,000 to pay off her debt and the workers and 200,000 for herself in case her father screws up again. When Gemma goes to marry the Kylorr, her bestie Fran is by her side, she is also their housekeeper. Gemma hoped her father would say something to stop it but he doesn’t, he just tells the Kylorr not to hurt Gemma. The Kylorr’s name was Azur and he was with his friend Rivin who was their witness. The Kylorr was the High Lord of Laras and was called the Kyzaire. After Gemma married him, she was called the Kylaira. Azur lived in the Keep that was run by his keepers Zaale and Ludayn. Ludayn worked for Gemma and took care of her. When Gemma got on a ship to take her to Krynn, Azur slept away while Rivin asked her what she needed. They locked her in her room and it took three days to get to Krynn. Azur came in her room and grabbed her hair, he tried to intimidate her. Despite Gemma being scared, she tried not to show it. Azur told her that he would feed from her neck since the Kylorr drank blood. Gemma scratched his arm while he manhandled her and he says he will break her eventually. Azur’s goal was to break Gemma and send her back to her father because of vengeance. [image] The keep is a huge fortress and Azur sends Gemma away with Ludayn once they arrive at the Kaalium. Kalia sees Gemma and is in tears when she finds out that Gemma is Azur’s bride. At first you are led to believe that Kalia is Azur’s lover, but she is actually his little sister. Azur smokes lore on a roof and Kalia was crying about him getting married. Azur wants revenge for his aunt Aina and is overprotective of Kalia. Women Kylorr are very rare and since she is his sister, he wants to make sure she is safe. Azur has a twin brother named Kythel and three other brothers named Thaine, Kaldur, and Lucen who were in charge of different areas in Krynn. Azur was in charge of their family’s estate and felt the most responsible for what had happened in the past. He decides to make Gemma’s life a living hell. He tells her that he needs to feed from her and despite Gemma being scared, she acts brave. Azur force feeds from Gemma to find out that she is his blood mate, which is called a kyrana. When Azur feeds, he will get bigger and become more powerful since blood mates make the Kylorr this way. Since Gemma is his blood mate, she feels arousal every time he feeds and he feels the same. He calls her a slut while he feeds from her and Gemma breaks down since she hates being turned on by him. Azur is under the impression that Gemma is spoiled when she is actually really poor and has been doing everything she can to get her family out of debt. He would leave her alone at the keep to do his business. There are different types of Kylorr and the Kylorr in the north called the Kaazor have been threatening for a war against Laras, the capital of Kaalium where Azur and the others live. Thryki are from the east and there is the Koro and the Dyaar. Ludayn is a Dyaar and she was abused as a kid by her father who ruined her wings. Ludayn and her mother came to the Kaalium and were taken in. When Azur would visit Gemma in her room, he would treat her cruelly and it would be angsty. But what was annoying was the second things got angsty, he would feed from her and Gemma would feel BBS since she is aroused from the feeding. But one time Azur feeds, Gemma moans and she has a breakdown and tells Azur to leave. [image] Azur feels bad but continues to treat her horribly while she is there. They have breakfast together and he tells her to kneel in front of him if she has no pride since he tells her he knows she only cares about that. She tries to prove him wrong by kneeling and offers her wrist for feeding. But the second he feeds, she is aroused and he hurts her again and leaves. He makes sure not to heal her marks with his venom so that she is in constant reminder that she is his. Azur notices Gemma wears old rags and gets her new clothes to wear. Gemma goes around the estate and meets Maazin, who is working on accounting for the lore on their land. There was a lore harvesting festival coming up so Azur wanted some numbers. Gemma befriends Maazin and helps him with the accounting. Azur finds her and is pissed, saying that this was none of her business. Gemma tells him she is familiar with accounting and Azur feeds from her, he makes her undress this time to make her uncomfortable. He allows for her to help Maazin and starts to realize he might have had it wrong about Gemma. He slowly starts to realize that Gemma is very similar to him, they were both the eldest and did their best to protect their families. He finds out that Gemma was managing her father’s mine since he kept gambling. Azur knew Gemma’s father was never going to stop gambling, even if his debts were paid. Gemma’s dad was in another area trying to gamble so Azur put a stop to it by using his messenger. They slowly start to get to know each other well and Gemma starts to like him. He flies her across the Silver Sea and kisses her for the first time. [image] Gemma starts becoming close with Kalia after she helps Kalia fix a plant that her mom used to garden around the estate. Kalia starts loving Gemma despite hating her at first. Gemma opens up to Azur about her family and hopes that they can move past hating each other. Every time they are in the same room, Azur will try to hurt Gemma with insults or by demeaning her after feeding from her. So Gemma would open up to him and hope that he would do the same. Azur would listen to Gemma’s stories but wouldn’t share much about himself. Gemma wonders if it is normal to feel aroused when a Kylorr feeds off her. She asks Ludayn to feed from her and Ludayn is afraid but does it when Gemma begs her. Gemma realizes she only feels aroused with Azur and eventually he tells her they are blood mates when they get along. He finds out someone fed from her even though Ludayn used her venom to heal the mark and is pissed. He hasn’t gone to anyone else for a feed since he’s had Gemma and confronts her on it but she doesn’t tell him. He tells her that her blood is his and she can’t let anyone feed from her again. As Azur got to know her, he got more respect for her. Gemma hopes to talk to her sisters and Azur thinks that because they are getting along, Gemma is trying to take advantage of him and says no. Gemma feels upset and during a storm, she hides because she associates it with trauma. Her mother had depression and died from suicide, she put rocks in her pocket and jumped into their estate lake, this happened during a storm. It all happened after her father came back from the war and her mother started to act differently. When Azur finds Gemma, he holds her. Gemma tried to use him as a distraction by asking him to feed from her but he tells her to tell him what is going on. Once she does, he holds her and gives her a halo device which can be used to contact her family. Gemma and Azur go to the village and they flirt while he introduces her to different people. But a kyriv attacks the village, it’s some creature and Azur thinks that the Kazoor sent it, their ruler was named Zyre. Azur sends Gemma home and manages to take the kyriv down himself. Once he gets home, he goes to Gemma and they fuck for hours while he feeds from her. Gemma is in pain and Azur takes care of her once they are done and they are both falling for each other. The kyriv was trying to get rid of the lore field but luckily Azur prevented that from happening. Gemma feels insecure about Azur’s fucking history but he says that since she is his kyrana, their sex is the best sex he’s ever had. He hates seeing her hurt and always wants to make her happy. [image] Gemma finds out that Maazin has been committing fraud by selling lore for cheap to the Kazoor. She tells Azur but Maazin disappears and Azur is on the lookout. Azur invites people from the village to their keep. His brothers come and by then, Azur and Gemma have fell for each other. Azur reassures Gemma that his brothers will like her. Kythel, Azur’s twin, is chill with Gemma but Kaldur is pissed with her. Kaldur is annoyed with Azur for not keeping his word. Apparently their aunt Aina was a peace ambassador for the Uranian Federation (their version of the United Alliance I guess?). Aina was killed by Gemma’s father when the war was over when she came to visit to discuss their peace agreement. When she was killed, her body wasn’t found. They need her body to find her soul gem. Azur said how there were different realms in their world. The living realm is the realm they are in called Nyaan. When they die, they go to the Alara realm. But the third realm is called Zyos, it is for the lost and forgotten. They believe that since Aina’s body wasn’t found, her soul is lost in Zyos. If they find her body and get her soul gem, they can guide her to Alara where she can rest in peace with Azur’s mom, her twin sister. Azur’s father left the estate once their mother died. He barely came to visit since his wife died 10 years ago from a blood sickness and is in Urania. Azur shows Gemma the footage of her father killing Aina and it is brutal. Her father and his team ripped Aina’s wings off and murder her. Gemma breaks down since she can’t believe her father would do such a thing and realizes that Azur married her to get revenge. Azur wanted to break Gemma and send her back to her dad to hurt her father the way he hurt his family. But he fell for Gemma and didn’t want to pull through anymore. Gemma says that she is going to confront her dad and get him to turn himself in. [image] Gemma says she wants to go back to her home alone to confront her dad even though Azur insists that he goes with her. Kylorr rely on blood and do have reserves that they can go to when they need some. But since they are blood mates, Gemma’s blood is the only thing he drinks. Gemma knows Azur married her for revenge and thinks he hates her so she thinks they need space. This separation was unneeded, both the characters loved each other so it was so stupid. But Gemma goes to confront her dad and Piper makes up for how she treated Gemma before she left. Mira and Piper have stepped up to help out more and Mira and Sorj are now official. Gemma confronts her dad and once she shows him the footage, he breaks down crying. He says he will turn himself in when Gemma begs him to and Gemma tells her sisters and Fran everything. For almost two weeks, Gemma and Azur are separated and Azur finds out that Gemma’s dad turned himself in. Kythel and Kaldur stick around waiting for Gemma to return. Kythel tells Azur he should be by Gemma’s side. So Azur goes to Gemma and they are happy when they reunite. Gemma managed to find where Aina’s body was. Her father said he got orders from a higher up and he knew it was wrong but he was promised rewards after this one killing. Her mother found out how her dad brutally killed Aina and was never the same since, she got depressed and shut him out. Gemma’s father was being sentenced and will eventually be sent to a prison planet for life with his team who was responsible for Aina’s death. Azur had bought Gemma’s home but she didn’t want anything to do with it since it was a reward for killing Aina. Azur let Piper, Mira, Fran, and Sorj come back with them to Laras and they lived in the village and worked in Krynn. Mira and Sorj were officially together and Ludayn and Fran worked together at the keep. Maazin was found dead but the Kazoor leader Zyre says he had nothing to do with it. He also had nothing to do with the kyriv attack. They found out Maazin was a Thyrkie and came from somewhere else, he has connections with the Kazoor but they don’t know the details. Azur said he wanted to marry Gemma again since they could start fresh. They wanted to wait on having kids until things died down. It was a cute and fun book, I read it quick and did love the world. I just wish that it played more into the angst and we coulda got a grovel but that’s cuz I always want grovel in books. I do feel like things were a bit rushed near the end but I didn’t mind since I don’t think dragging the story would have been a good idea. Kythel is the next book but I honestly wanted Rivin and Neela’s story. Neela is Kalia’s human friend and Rivin acts weird and cold around her. Kythel is interesting though so I am excited to read his story sometime, he is a sweet brother to Azur. Azur and Gemma are cute and its nice to see them happy, I am glad I gave this a shot. So I think you can get how I cannot find words to explain how fuckin’ pleased I am that you’re back.” It’s been 4 months, I can’t believe I finally finished this book. I’ve struggled to find a work-life balance with two very demanding jobs. I’ve always found books to be an escape but I was too depressed to read. This book did drag a bit, I was here for the romance and angst. This was a second-chance romance between Logan and Millie. KA tends to have MMCs that act like bulldozers rather than having them grovel when they act like assholes. I recommend you read Motorcycle Man first because a lot of the characters do appear in this book and have povs. I haven’t read all of KA’s books so I didn’t know some of the characters but I didn’t have trouble following the story. While this book does drag, I did find it entertaining. KA men act like cavemen, they’ll repeat phrases and won’t listen to what the women want, which can be toxic. KA characters are older but they are immature. Her FMCs don’t have a backbone; even when they do, they always give in to the MMC. Overall it was a good read but could be much shorter. [image] Logan is part of the Motorcycle club Chaos and 23 years ago, he was with the love of his life, Millie. But 20 years later, they are no longer speaking and everyone from Chaos hates Millie. Millie broke things off with Logan with no explanation and Logan felt betrayed. Millie sees Logan at a local Chipotle, she walked through fire for him and wants him to know why. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ 23 years ago, Millie met Logan at a party when she was 18. After 6 weeks of dating, they moved in together and were inseparable. They were together for 3 years but Millie broke things off. We never see the scene of how she broke things off or what Logan’s reaction was which was annoying. 20 years later, Millie sees him at Chipotle and is instantly attracted to him again. Logan is going through a divorce and has two daughters. Millie wants to come clean about why things ended. Logan goes by the name “High” in the Motorcycle Club called Chaos. All the bikers treat Millie like shit because they think Millie left Logan after graduating since she thought she was better than him. Millie had a crate full of pictures of Logan and her. She decides to go to the Chaos Compounds to come clean to Logan but he is pissed. He asks why she is there, she kisses him, and he treats her like a whore and fucks her. He covers her tattoo, they both used to have matching tattoos, hers said “Only Him” and his said “Only Hers.” When he was done, he told her to leave since he didn't wanna see her again. Millie thanks him for killing their connection. Logan constantly calls Millie a bitch or brags about her wanting to fuck him. Tack is pissed to see Millie there and Tyra is confused. [image] We see a flashback of Millie and Logan, they talk about wanting a lot of kids. Tyra visits Millie with Elivra and Lanie, from the other KA books. Tyra tells Millie that they are there to help her with Logan since she can sense that they still have feelings for each other. Millie gives them the crate with all the photos of her and Logan and tells them to get rid of it. She doesn’t wanna see them or the crate of pictures ever again. When the girls look at the pictures, they are shocked to see Logan so happy. Tyra set Logan up by making him take champagne to a shelter for her. Millie was there and Logan thinks it was Millie who tricked Tyra and calls her a bitch. Millie tries to tell him that Tyra went to her. Logan tells her that she is playing games. She tries to walk away but he doesn’t let her. She tells him to get rid of the champagne and he calls her a bitch. She tells him to stop calling her a bitch and he asks if she will just give him a blowjob to stop him. She calls him an asshole while he says how she likes fucking him. When she cries, he mocks her and says she is faking it. Millie tells her guys to move the champagne and he stops. Honestly, I didn’t get what she saw in the guy when he acted like this. [image] Logan’s eldest daughter was Cleo who is 12 and his younger daughter was Zadie who is 10. Tyra left the crate of pictures for Logan with a note which pissed Logan off and he thought Millie planned this. Millie tells Dottie that she is done living like a ghost over Logan. Dottie is married to Alan and they both saw what Millie went through when she left Logan. Logan shows up at Millie’s house and gives her back her crate. He goes into her house and tells her to stop trying to get his attention. He gets in Millie’s personal space and makes sexual comments. Logan does this weird talk about a game Millie is playing and Millie gets what he is saying. They were speaking the caveman language, saying he would play a game and get rid of her. Millie fucks him again despite him treating her like shit and taunting her about loving sex with him. Millie gave her phone number saying he could come back for more, like girl have some self-respect. [image] Logan found out that Millie had been living like a ghost and hadn’t dated. The girl was single for 20 years while Logan was fucking around and even has two kids, bruh why can’t women fuck around too scuse me? Logan felt betrayed when he saw the crate with their photos at the dumpster. He sneaked into Millie’s house by picking the lock. He snooped around her house and noticed how empty it was. Then Logan goes to Millie’s studio and says he wants to fuck. She says no but gives in after he pushes her to. After, he tells her to tell him what her game is. Millie tells him to release her from the game since she is tired, they both don’t talk like normal humans, and the caveman talk was too much. Millie regrets seeing him again and Logan says she ruined his life. Millie tells him that she walked through fire for him for the past 20 years and his way of getting revenge is to treat her like she is nothing. Logan asks her how she walked through fire for him. Millie says she was going to tell him but he lost his opportunity after treating her like shit. Logan sees that the crate is no longer at the dumpster, someone stole it. [image] There is a cute flashback of Logan carrying Millie to bed since she fell asleep studying. It’s crazy to me that we see them so in love in the flashbacks to know how easily Logan gave up on the relationship when Millie broke things off. If you loved your partner so much and they tried to break things up, wouldn’t you fight for them? Millie wakes up the next day to find Logan casually drinking coffee in her kitchen. Logan says the crate with their pictures is gone, he tells her that she threw them away for the second time. Millie tells him that she saw him at Chipotle and heard he had two daughters. She wanted to apologize and thought he had everything he wanted so she wanted to give him closure. He says she doesn’t know shit and throws his mug on the wall and tells her that his daughters’ names are Cleo and Zadie. He tells her that they are the lights of his life but he doesn’t love Deb, their mom. He and Deb were in a loveless marriage for 13 years and got together because Deb was pregnant. When they had Cleo they thought it would be better if she had a sibling. Once they had Zadie they thought it would be better to stay together for the girls but eventually, they divorced. He lived his life thinking about the life he could have had with Millie. He says that she took the joy out of his life and he never got to show his kids that side of him. Logan is blaming Millie for breaking things off and we never get to see the moment so I can’t fully judge. But I do feel like if you love someone a lot, you won’t accept it when they break up with you. Like yea if they really wanna end things you have to accept it. But if it comes out of nowhere, you would fight for the relationship until it isn’t worth fighting for. It seems like when Millie ended things, Logan got angry and had a pity party for himself. That doesn’t mean Millie isn’t blameless either, she needs to communicate. [image] Millie promises that when Logan leaves, he won’t see her again. He asks Millie where her kids are and calls her a liar since she said she wanted a big family. He believes Millie left him once she graduated thinking she was better than him and making a ton of money. He says that even if she is rich, she will never know the joy of birthing kids and raising them. It was such a cruel thing to say to her. Kellie, Millie’s friend, calls her over to go see a band perform. They go to a bar club and Chaos was there. Hopper, one of the members, decides to call Millie out on stage by making her feel unwelcome. Millie is tired, she realizes that Chaos purposefully got Kellie to get Millie to go there. Millie yells at them all and Kellie supports her, saying that they tricked her into bringing Millie there. Turns out this whole thing happened because of Tyra which pisses Tack off. Logan tries to calm Millie down but she says that she is done walking through fire for him. She yells at him to leave her alone and runs away. [image] Kellie calls all of Chaos out for ganging up on Millie. The Chaos members say that Millie ruined Logan’s life but Kellie says that they didn’t see how Millie was when everything went down. Kellie tells them all to leave Millie alone, saying that Logan didn’t come back when Millie left, asking him who left who behind and storms away. Logan remembers he told Millie years ago that if she loves a man, she will believe him and take him like he is. And if she has to, to walk through fire for him. So Logan runs to Millie’s place and finds out that Millie left the country. He calls Dottie but Alan picks up and tells him Dottie is dropping Millie off at the airport. Alan goes off at Logan for hurting Millie. Alan says that Millie left for New York and Paris. Logan’s heart wanted to get an emergency passport and follow Millie. His gut told him that Millie would be back and she would be calmer and may listen. Since he listened to his heart in the past and things went wrong between them, he decided to go with his gut and wait for her since he knew she had a business and home to come back to. While Millie was gone, Logan fixed her door and set up an alarm system in her home. Brody was someone who helped Logan keep tabs on Millie. He told Logan which hotel Millie was at, he said Millie would be back in two weeks. [image] Millie came back from Paris but some guy named Benito Valenzuela was in her house with another guy pointing his gun at her. Benito asks if Logan mentioned him, he was there because of Chaos and Logan. She saw the crate that she threw in her living room since they found it. Benito saw the pictures and thought Millie was a weak link to Logan, he knows Logan fucked her on her work desk cuz of his intel ew. Benito says that he wants Millie to send a message to Chaos, saying the word “nudge” and waddling off. I swear the people in this book don’t know how to speak English. Millie goes to the Chaos Compound and tells them that Benito broke into her house and Logan shows up. Logan says they can talk but Millie yells at him saying it is the last time she will see him for the 100th time. She tells them all to keep their business out of her life and to keep Logan away. Logan tries to get close to her to talk while Millie breaks down and screams that she can’t have children, revealing she is infertile. She says that she knew he wouldn’t leave her if she told him and she knew that he wanted kids so badly. She said he wanted a big family and since she couldn’t give him that, she gave him up so he could have that with someone else. Logan is so angry she didn’t tell him but won’t let her go once he finds out the truth. He takes her to his room while she fights him and holds her until he calms down. She asks if Cleo and Zadie are beautiful and Logan says they are. Millie says she gave him his kids since she gave him up and he agrees. [image] Logan is pissed that Dottie didn’t tell him why Millie broke things off. Millie could have told him and they could have adopted kids together. But I guess she was dealing with so much shit on her own. After finding out the truth, I expected Logan to grovel. In his way, he did, he just bulldozed back into her life. Logan tells Dottie that he is going to fix this. Logan moved into Millie’s place without asking her. We see a flashback of how Logan and Millie planned for kids after she graduated and realized that she didn’t get pregnant for months, feeling bad for not noticing how it was affecting her. Logan tells Millie he gets why she did what she did since he would have done the same. Millie calls him out for treating her like shit. He says that he was a dick but he did it because she ruined them and broke him in the process. He tells her that he saw she still had their tattoo and he didn’t want to get lost in her again after she hurt him. Logan told Millie that she should have told him instead of keeping it from him. “You should have told me,” he whispered. “’Cause now I can’t prove to you you were all I wanted. You were all I needed. You took that shot away from me and it was as important then as it is now that you know that to your bones, Millie. You gave me what you thought I had to have and I’m grateful, so fuckin’ grateful, baby. When you meet Cleo and Zadie, you’ll get just how grateful that is. I love my girls. Fuckin’ love ’em, the lights of my life. But it’s the goddamned, motherfuckin’ truth that I would have had all I needed. I would have had everything if all I had in life was you. And you took away my shot to show you that. You also took away any shot I had of helpin’ you through gettin’ the knowledge we couldn’t have a family and buildin’ a new dream together and that cuts just as deep. You made those decisions on your own without sharing with me. And that was wrong.” He tells her in the future he wants her to communicate and meet his daughters. He calls Millie out for going to Paris without him since they planned to go together when they were younger. After this, they are inseparable, Logan makes sure Millie knows that she is loved. He sees Millie with her niece and nephew, Katy and Freddie. When Logan sees Millie with the kids, he realizes she lived a life of loneliness while she saw other people with kids. Alan was pissed with Logan for treating Millie badly and called Logan out for not coming after Millie. Logan tries to explain himself but Alan won’t listen. So Logan doesn’t care what Alan thinks. Deb was so chill, she wasn’t your typical OW which I loved, she just wanted Logan happy. Logan pushed for Zadie and Cleo to meet Millie. I appreciated that it was realistic, Cleo accepted Millie since she wanted her father happy. But Zadie couldn’t stand Millie and treated her like shit. Logan has a caveman moment when he finds out Benito came into their home and repeats a code to Millie over and over again. Millie got kittens and is worried that the kids will hate her. Zadie wanted Logan and Deb to get back together. When Zadie would give attitude, Logan would call her out for it. The Chaos members treat Millie better but no one grovels. Millie manages to bond with Cleo but Zadie gives Millie attitude and even secretly kicks her when Logan isn’t looking. Millie doesn’t wanna tell Logan about Zadie but he figures it out. Every time he notices she is on her bad behaviour, he calls her out and punishes her. When Millie was fucking Logan, she realized that he got his tattoo of her removed. She cries and he tattoos her onto him again afterwards. Zadie acts like she lost Millie’s cat to mess with her. They look for her cat to only realize Zadie lied. Zadie feels bad about it but every time she gets yelled at by Deb or Logan, she blames it on Millie, she was such a realistic kid for the way she acted. Deb agreed to meet Millie and they hit it off right away. Deb was cool with Millie being with the kids and would even join in on their get-togethers. Logan and Millie have cute moments, he’s always touching her and putting her first. Cleo and Zadie slowly start to warm up to Millie and she decides to get them gift cards to go shopping at the mall. Once they came back, Zadie went outside to talk to strangers but they were the men that worked for Benito. They tried to kidnap Zadie but Millie told her to get into the house and get Logan who was with Cleo. Of fucking course Millie gets kidnapped. I swear every KA heroine gets kidnapped at some point. Benito was pissed that the guys kidnapped her and killed Millie’s kidnappers. He tells her to tell Logan it wasn’t his fault, he just wants to get rid of Chaos so that he can run his business. He lets Millie go and she is reunited with Logan. Chaos wants to get revenge but I don’t think they go through with it. Not gonna lie, I didn’t care for the Benito storyline but I think he gets away with everything. I think Chaos thought it would be better to not do anything about it but I could be wrong. Alan accepts Logan in the end since Millie is happy. Logan gets his tattoo for Millie. He proposes in the middle and it ends with them being happy. This book was entertaining but it did drag in the end. I didn’t care for the Benito plotline and found it stupid. But overall, it was entertaining and angsty, I just took forever to read it. This story may be dark and angsty, but it is beautiful. I recommend you check the triggers if you are not used to anything dark, this book has so many fucked up things that happen. Push through 25 chapters and you will understand why people love this book. You need to know some background of Harry Potter to read this. I remembered the basic stuff but I did have to Google some things. You can try reading this without reading/watching the series but it might be confusing. This review will have spoilers for Harry Potter. [image] Imagine a world where Harry never won the war while facing Voldemort. A world where Voldemort rules and the members of the Resistance are either dead or taken prisoner. Hermione is a prisoner who is taken to be in Voldemort’s breeding program. Since many Pureblood couples are having a hard time conceiving, Hermione and others are assigned to a Death Eater to breed babies. Voldemort wants to access memories Hermione no longer remembers. To get access, she would need to get pregnant. So he entrusts her to his loyal general, the High Reeve, Draco Malfoy. “If he’s a monster, then I’m his creator.” Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Part 1 Starting this book was rough, no one knew that Umbridge hid Hermione in a cell. A healer named Stroud says that Hermione is in the breeding program. Voldemort tries to see Hermione’s memories by using Legilimency, a painful way of prying through someone’s head. Stroud tells him that they can get the memories if Hermione is pregnant. The person who gets her pregnant will be able to use Legilimens on Hermione. They assign her to the High Reeve, Draco Malfoy. The prisoners are forced to be sex slave surrogates to the Death Eaters. They have manacles that suppress their magic and are controlled to not hurt others including themselves and must obey their owners. Draco is married to Astoria who is pissed that this is happening. Draco makes Hermione stand at a table and rapes her, this happens 5 times every month when she is supposed to be fertile and he leaves immediately when done. She thinks of suicide, is depressed, has agoraphobia, and seizures. Draco pries through her head to see if he can recover memories. Every other month, Hermione is forced to see Voldemort who does the same. Astoria was having an affair with Montague but Draco doesn’t care. [image] Umbridge is killed by an arrow and the locket she is wearing is destroyed. The locket was the last Horcrux and since Voldemort needs Horcruxes to live, he is dying. Montague finds Hermione and attempts to rape her. He is close when Draco finds him and later rips his organs out and kills him. Astoria is jealous that Draco is always at the manor after Hermione came. He abandoned Astoria at the manor after they got married. She thought she had Montague but he wanted Hermione. Astoria tries to rip Hermione’s eyes out but Draco stops her and helps heal Hermione. Stroud says that Hermione isn’t pregnant and they need to use a bed. After the rape, he goes straight to the washroom to vomit, he couldn’t stomach doing it. She was there for 6 months and runs into Draco while he is drunk. He says that if he knew she would cause him this much pain, he never would have been with her and kissed her and Hermione reciprocated. He pushes away shocked and says she is playing her role well. She is mentally and physically hurt that she hits her head on the glass trying to kill herself. Draco stops her and later, Stroud tells Hermione that she is pregnant. Draco was soft with her when she was asleep but when she was awake, he stayed away. She wakes up with memories and we see the past. Part 2 Two years ago when they were 22, Draco killed Dumbledore and it triggered the start of the war. He was a Death Eater and worked for Voldemort. Snape is a double agent and works for the Order. Hermione went abroad to learn how to be a healer after her friend Colin died since she failed to save him. Harry and Ron became closer and once she was back, she was left out. Snape taught her how to make potions so she was valued in the Order which was run by Kingsley and Moody. Moody says a Death Eater will spy for them if Hermione were to go to them willingly. Hermione wanted everyone to use Dark Magic as self-defense which caused a rift between her and Harry. Moody and Kingsley asked her to meet with the Death Eater who was Draco to get intel. Hermione couldn’t tell anyone which made her feel alone and she thought Draco wanted to sleep with her. Draco sets a day for them to meet weekly and says they should kiss on it and is surprised she gave in so easily. He gave her rings and if she felt it burn, she needed to meet him. He realizes she is Occlumens like him, she can hide memories and says he will train her. He kisses her the second time she goes to their meeting place at a shack. After that second time, he only gets close to intimidate her. Hermione started to notice that Draco was cruel to her when he was vulnerable. After every meeting, he gave her a scroll with information that Moody and Kingsley used to make raids and save prisoners. This made the Resistance think they were winning but they had no idea that Hermione was sacrificing herself for intel. Draco gave Hermione very valuable information and as a result, Voldemort drew poisonous runes with Nagini’s blood into his back. There was Dark Magic and it was too late for Hermione to fully heal him. His information saved so many lives and Hermione realized that Draco didn’t care if he died. Hermione put the Heart of Isis in his chest to heal him, it purified him every time he used Dark Magic. Hermione starts to tell Draco not to die. “Be careful, Draco. Don’t die.” She did surgery to close the wounds on Draco’s back. He says that they should drink together and kisses her. Hermione is tired of being lonely and thinks that Draco sees her for who she truly is. I didn’t expect their kiss scenes to be so passionate. When Draco senses that she tenses, he stops and they fall asleep together. After that, he didn’t appear in the shack for over a month. Hermione goes foraging and a vampire bites her. She goes to the shack to heal herself, Draco appears and watches her. Ever since then, Draco looked at Hermione to check if she was okay. He got all the medical supplies she may need in case she is injured again. He always did things for her because he wanted her to live. Harry cares for Ginny and Ron but barely thinks of Hermione. Draco hates him and he grows to care for Hermione. “You’re like a rose in a graveyard.” During Christmas, Harry tries to mend things with Hermione but she says they should use Dark Magic to defend themselves since she is tired of people dying. Draco gives Hermione a cloak and when Hermione gives him a healing potion pack, he gives her daggers. Moody and Kingsley secretly make Hermione heal Death Eaters who were tortured by spies. Hermione healed Montague and he was given a potion by Kingsley which made him obsessed with her. Hermione is ordered to have Draco show his loyalty or hand her memories of Draco so that he will die once he is ratted out. The only way for her to make sure he stays loyal was to get him attached to her, she felt coerced into fucking him by Kingsley and Moody. When Draco teaches Hermione physical self-defense, she kisses him. They ended up fucking and Hermione was in pain since she was a virgin. When he realized she was a virgin, he was devastated. When Snape finds out, he is soft with Hermione and gives her potions. Draco is helping the Order to get revenge for his mom Narcissa. Narcissa was tortured by Voldemort in the Malfoy Manor when Lucius went to prison. Draco got the Death Mark and killed Dumbledore so that Narcissa would be freed from a cage. His mom dealt with so much torture that she got seizures. His dad doesn’t know since he would have gotten them killed by going after Voldemort. He said he couldn’t care for anyone ever again since it hurt too much. Narcissa died in a house fire in Lestrange Manor. Draco chose Hermione as his contact since he needed someone who wouldn’t die and knew she wasn’t fighting on the fields. It’s sad knowing he has to go through the same thing with Hermione in the future, she is tortured and refuses to leave without him, plus HE had to torture her. Draco makes the Unbreakable Vow to keep Hermione alive, he promises to be loyal to the Order and not overthrow Voldemort. Draco grows resentful of Hermione, he admits his feelings for her but hates her for it. He says that her manacles seem heavier than Voldemort's. Harry goes to Hogwarts to find a Horcrux but Ron gets kidnapped. Harry does not hesitate to put Hermione in danger by asking her to join a suicide mission to save Ron when she has not been on a mission in years. When they get Ron, they are trapped by Death Eaters. Hermione uses a Dark Magic curse when Ron is attacked. Draco appeared with a mask, killed all the Death Eaters, and got everyone out after obliviating them. He realizes Hermione knew this was a trap and doesn’t care if she dies. “You are not replaceable. You are not required to make your death convenient. You are allowed to be important to people. The reason I took that fucking Vow was to keep you alive. To keep you safe.” Hermione feels so cold and it is because she used Dark Magic. Seeing how badly it affected Hermione made me realize that Draco used so much Dark Magic with no support. Hermione goes to the shack and Draco says that she can use him if she is lonely. They have sensual sex and Draco can tell Hermione has feelings for him and is obsessed with her. Since then, every time they meet they treat it like their last. He asks if she is alright and she heals him while he holds her. When they cuddle, Draco says that he will take care of Hermione and she does the same to him when she is healing him. When she tells him not to die, he promises to come back since she is his. Draco resents the Order and tells Moody and Kingsley that Hermione needs to be alive. During an attack, Hermione gets injured but is healing everyone while bleeding out. Draco got his elf to bring Hermione to his manor. He heals her and says that he will kill the Order if something happens to her. Draco begs her to run away but she doesn’t want to. She says one day they will but they can’t since Draco has the Dark Mark. If a person cuts off the arm with the Dark Mark, they will bleed out. It can only be removed if Voldemort dies. “I have warned you. If something happens to you, I will personally raze the entire Order. That isn’t a threat. It is a promise. Consider your survival as much a necessity to the survival of the Resistance as Potter’s. If you die, I will kill every last one of them.” Hermione makes a bomb for the magical shield around Hogwarts. They plan to kill Voldemort and Nagini, thinking those were the last Horcruxes. Ginny finds out she is pregnant and tells Hermione to hide it from Harry since it will put pressure on him. Hermione finds out that when Harry was cursed by Voldemort, Voldemort made him a Horcrux. Harry is accepting of dying and she tells Harry that Ginny is pregnant. He makes her promise to take care of Ginny and the baby. He tells Hermione she was a good friend. Neville kills Nagini and Harry lets Voldemort kill him. Turns out they were missing a Horcrux. Draco tells her she needs to leave since they lost. Ginny was kidnapped to a lab and Hermione begs Draco to save her and promises she will do what he asks. Draco rescues Ginny but blows his cover since the records show he was there. Hermione wants to tell Snape about the Horcruxes so someone can kill Voldemort. Hermione tells Draco to take Ginny and once he is back, she will leave with him. Hermione leaves a note saying she loves him. She blows up the lab to save Draco from getting his cover blown but is caught by Montague. She is in a cage and sees Harry’s body rotting and Lucius burns all her friends. Hermione pushes her memories away of Draco. Manacles are put on her that suppress her magic and she slowly forgets Draco. Umbridge locks Hermione in a room in Hogwarts. Hermione is in there for 16 months until the breeding program. Part 3 Draco realizes she got her memories back, he couldn’t find Hermione and looked all over the world. He was forced to marry Astoria and had to fuck her to reproduce. But he stayed away once she was barren. Draco hurt and raped Hermione since Voldemort probably checked his head and it was all an act for him. Hermione was supposed to leave months ago with Snape but he is in Romania. Draco was willing to let Hermione leave without remembering him and knew he was going to be killed once she was gone. She tells him she will find a way to save him. Hermione says she wants to try having sex with Draco. She tells him to stop in the middle and cries and Draco hates himself. Draco was mad at her because she manipulated and left him. He asks if saving him was worth it since he had to live his nightmares. He had to rape her and Montague did too but Hermione says Draco came in time. His wife almost got her eyes out and she is dealing with seizures. Hermione says he was worth it and she will save him. Lucius comes to the manor and Astoria can’t stand him since he is killing animals and drags blood around. Lucius is sick of her so he beheads her but Draco planned it. Hermione realizes they need Phoenix's tears to remove the Dark Mark. Hermione was having a girl and she wanted to tell her stories about Draco, he even said she didn’t have to keep the baby. It had me crying to see how little Draco cared for his life and how he valued Hermione “Why are you so resigned to dying? Even at the beginning, when you made your offer to the Order, you were always planning to die like it wouldn’t matter to anyone. Why are you still like that? Now—” her voice broke, “—when it does?” Draco and Snape planned Voldemort’s downfall politically. Draco was the High Reeve so he held the most power in Voldemort’s forces. People were realizing that Voldemort was becoming weak and were pulling away their support. They find out Snape died but Draco has other ways to get Hermione out with portkeys that teleport to places. Lucius sneaks a portkey into Hermione’s room to make her go to his room. Voldemort threatened to kill Draco if Lucius didn’t find the last Order member. So she tells him that Draco worked for her and she was the last Order member. Lucius forces his way into her head and Hermione pushes all the Narcissa memories to him. Lucius is devastated when he finds out what happened to Narcissa. Draco got Lucius off Hermione and Lucius has enough Phoenix's tears for Draco. Hermione had to amputate Draco’s arm to get rid of the mark and the potion prevented him from bleeding out. Lucius burned the manor to make it seem like they all died inside. Draco had a portkey to an island in Japan where Ginny and James were. He made a house with all the things Hermione loves with books everywhere. Once they get to the island, Ginny slapped him since Hermione was pregnant through rape. She tells Hermione that she doesn’t need to be with Draco but Hermione loves Draco. Anytime Draco is away, she is scared he is dead and is codependent on him. Even if its toxic, I didn’t care since their love was so deep. Draco had a lab and foraging baskets so she can make potions. Ginny pissed me off since she kept trying to separate Hermione and Draco. Draco and Hermione always cuddled and Draco couldn’t sleep without her. Draco openly looks at her possessively and it was nice to see him laugh and smile. She made him a prosthetic arm with a wand in the forearm. She gave birth to Aurore and when Aurore grabbed Draco’s hand, he was attached. Aurore became closer to James as they grew older. They followed the news and saw that people stepped in now that Voldemort was going to die soon. Ginny is pissed they didn’t mention how Ron, Harry, and the others. “I’m going to take care of you.” She held his hand tighter and pressed it against her chest. “I’m yours, as long as you want me.” His hand slid up to cradle her face. He stared at her, his silver eyes intent. “Always. As long as I live.” Ginny leaves when James is 5 and it takes her a year to kill Voldemort, she tells everyone the truth about the war. She doesn’t mention Hermione and she knows Draco will never be redeemed. Ginny takes James with her so that he can go to Hogwarts. Aurore learns about the history of her parents and it devastates her. Once she is old enough, she gets a job and reunites with James and Ginny. The book ends on a devastating note, we get a happy ending for Dramione. But all of their sacrifices go unnoticed. Draco is seen as a monster, people act like he is Voldemort. Hermione is nothing but a footnote, that she was a surrogate and did not fight. Hermione gave all of herself to the war but no one will ever know the truth. “She was a non-active member of the Order of the Phoenix and did not fight.” It’s fucking sad and Draco is right: “He pressed his lips against her forehead. “You’re better than anyone,” he said quietly, the words brushing against her skin. “This world doesn’t deserve you at all.” The world does not deserve Hermione. I love these two so much, their love for each other was immeasurable. The sacrifices they made for each other and the war is devastating. This is the third book in the Crescent City series, the first being House of Earth and Blood, and the second being House of Sky and Breath. I can’t lie, this book was disappointing. There was a lot of infodumping and most of the book took place in gloomy settings. There weren’t many character moments and some characters pissed me off. There were characters I was excited to see and they barely showed up in the book. But I did enjoy it and do recommend you check out this series. Before you read this series, you HAVE to read ALL of SJM’s other books, meaning all of Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ After Bryce introduced herself, Rhys winnowed them to Hewn City’s dungeons. Rhys gave her a bean so she could speak and understand the language. I was hoping Ruhn and Rhys would meet since they look the same but that didn’t happen. Bryce doesn’t say that she is the Horn but tells them about the Asteri and their weapons. They heard legends about the Daglan which were the Asteri. Bryce was in the homeland of the fae and Theia came from here. Anytime she lies, Azriel could tell. Amren was being a bitch as per usual. Bryce was left in the cell and saw this grate with beasts underneath and winnows to the tunnels. Her Starsword and phone were taken but her star glow points her in a direction, the beasts stay away cuz of her starlight. Nesta and Azriel catch up and Azriel has her Starsword. He has the dagger named the Truth-Teller which is part of the prophecy that unites fae when united with the sword. They bond, but Bryce doesn’t trust them, and they don’t trust her. They see a wyrm and Bryce leads it to them to escape from Nesta and Azriel which is so stupid since she put them in danger. But she went back since she felt bad and saw Nesta use the Mask to control a dead-boned creature to kill the wyrm, she still had silver flames. When Nesta wouldn’t take off the Mask, Azriel named everyone she loved and ended it with Nyx and. That’s what made Nesta take it off, she loves her nephew so much. Azriel hugged her and thanked the Mother for her being okay, I had tears. [image] Nesta shows Bryce her phone and asks how to use it. Bryce finds a door with a star like her chest and when she opens it, they are at the Prison. They see a projection of Silene, Theia’s daughter. Theia had served the Asteri and defeated the Asteri with Fionn. Fionn and Theia are the Fae King and Fae Queen and have Helena and Silene. Fionn didn’t wanna let Theia rule, he wanted it to be his daughters. Theia was so greedy that she took her General Pelias and got Fionn killed. The Cauldron in their world was used to Make objects like the Horn, the Harp, the Crown, and the Mask part of the Dread Trove. Theia had the Starsword and Truth-Teller that she took from Fionn. She was desperate for more power and wanted to conquer other worlds. Pelias was greedy so he contacted the Asteri behind her back. The Asteri offered Pelias power if he led Theia to Midgard. Rigelus acts like fae and they want to take Theia’s Made objects so they keep her in good graces. Theia killed the humans and took over a place called Parthos. More fae and shifters entered their world and Theia realized that the Asteri were there. She found out Hel defeated them and met Aidas who was her mate, they wanted to defeat the Asteri. Theia divided her power and gave some to her daughters to let them escape. She died, Helena stayed behind and was captured by Pelias while Silene ignored the fae who begged for help, she used the Harp to create a portal. Helena was raped by Pelias who was named the Prince of the Fae and that’s their ancestry. [image] Azriel and Nesta realize Bryce was the Horn and threaten to carve it out of her and want her to go to Rhys. There was an Asteri in a coffin, Theia had her locked there. Bryce was stupid to let the Asteri out of the coffin, she unleashed danger into the world just because she needed answers. Bryce summoned the dagger and sword to herself and Nesta finished the Asteri off. After getting answers, Bryce left through a portal while Nesta and Azriel were pissed. Meanwhile, Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian were tortured by Pollux and the Hawk. Lidia was forced to join while she screamed for Ruhn in his mind, but he ignored her. Flynn, Declan, Ithan, and Marc were at the Meat Market with Sigrid who was the Fendyr heir that Ithan rescued. Ithan insists they save Tharion who was fighting in the pits for the Viper Queen. They need Tharion to get the Depth Charger since they wanna rescue their friends. But Sabine finds them and Declan and Flynn shoot her and the Viper Queen takes them. Lidia finds them and begs for their help to get Ruhn and the others out. They don’t trust her but she says to find a way out of the Meat Market and meet her. Ithan made a bargain with the Viper Queen who says if he fights anyone she chooses and wins, she will release him and his friends. Ariadne thought it would be her and the Viper Queen sent her away. The Viper Queen makes Ithan face Sigrid and he wins the fight by beheading Sigrid without meaning to. [image] Ithan was so upset he killed Sigrid that he went to the House of Flame and Shadow since he wanted to revive Sigrid. He is the one who said his friends were a pack but was the first to abandon them for the wolves. He did this in the last book too, does he not realize that there aren’t gonna be wolves to lead if they don’t save the world? Irithys is the Queen of Sprites and was forced to guard the mystics in the Asteri Palace. Lidia gets the witch who put the slave collar on Irithys to release her and tells Irithys to burn her hand and escape and help her free her friends. Baxian bit Ruhn’s arm off so that they could use it to escape, but Pollux came in. It was disgusting seeing Lidia with Pollux, she had to fuck him to keep him from doing worse to the guys, I felt so bad for her. Lidia injected Hunt and Baxian with firstlight to get their wings to grow back since they were cut off by Pollux. Rigelus takes Hunt’s lightning to use it to resurrect the Harpy and decides to kill Ruhn. Lidia plans their escape, and Irithys destroys the Spine with the help of the Ophion. Lidia helps them get out with one arm since the other was burned. Ruhn’s body was weak so she carried Ruhn. Since they were being followed, Lidia sacrificed herself. I was in tears when Flynn and Declan talked to Ruhn and he was crying knowing his friends came to rescue him. Lidia tells Hunt and Baxian to fly Ruhn away while she runs as a deer to distract Mordoc and the dreadwolves. Ruhn screams for her and once he is in the Depth Charger, he begs Tharion to save her. Lidia jumps off the cliff but is shot in the chest, Tharion gets her body and they manage to revive her. Lidia saving Ruhn: The world seemed to hold its breath as the elegant doe walked up to Ruhn and gently, lovingly, nuzzled his neck. Ruhn didn’t so much as move. Not a blink as Lidia pulled away, those golden eyes lingering on his face—just a moment longer. Then she bounded off into the trees, a streak of sunlight that was there and gone. When Lidia wakes up in the Depth Charger, we find out she has twin sons on the ship. She did everything for them, their names were Brann and Actaeon. Their adoptive parents are Davit and Renki. Lidia later tells Ruhn she was forced to live with her dad when she was 3. She worked for Sandriel’s triarii for 10 years and danced around Pollux but never slept with him. She was forced into a fertility ritual by her dad and had to fuck some random guy, and she got pregnant. She faked being kidnapped and went to the ocean for help. The Ocean Queen says she would keep her sons safe but Lidia would have to leave in 2 years. Lidia had to get in the good graces of the Asteri so that she could help the Ophion like the Ocean Queen wanted, she wasn’t allowed to see her sons. When she returned, Pollux admitted his feelings and said he had been searching for her for 2 years and killed people to find her. She decides to be with him since it’ll help her cover and sleep with him. The Ocean Queen tells Lidia she has to join everyone on their mission and can’t stay with her sons. [image] Bryce sent the portal to the Autumn King’s villa to get answers about the sword and dagger that she took from the fae world, and he put gorison shackles on her. The Autumn King told her about the dagger and sword making a place called nowhere when reunited. Once Bryce gets her answer, she puts him in shackles. Ruhn had a key to the shackles in his room since the Autumn King would burn him with them on. Bryce locks him up in a closet and teleports to Hunt. Tharion is being told by the Ocean Queen that he is wanted by the Viper Queen and the River Queen. This reunion was so underwhelming, I didn’t care for Tharion and he was the focus when Bryce returned. Hunt cried but it wasn’t as emotional as I would have liked. Bryce says she is the Queen of Valbaran Fae and Tharion is her subject. She tells the Ocean Queen about the Asteri and wants to go to Avallen to go to their Archives and Cave of Princes. Avallen has mists that can’t be pierced by the Asteri and only lets people who are invited in. Morven refuses to let them in the archives and cave but Bryce doesn’t care. He is forcing Sathia, Flynn’s sister, to marry one of his nephews, the Murder Twins. Tharion says he will marry her, he was sweet for doing this but I felt no chemistry between Sathia and him. Ruhn, Declan, Flynn, and Lidia focus on the archives but Flynn and Declan disappear for two days. Ruhn is busy flirting with Lidia to notice. In the caves, Bryce saw the Autumn King and Morven with Declan and Flynn held as hostages. I was pissed she decided to run away since finding answers was more important to her. The cave was made by Helena and was used to contact Hel. Bryce went to Hel through her mind with Hunt and met Aidas, Apollion, and Thanatos. Hunt finds out that he was genetically made by Thanatos and Apollion and his thunder was Helfire. His dad was chosen to help and he was with his mom. But his dad was killed by the Asteri. The princes made him and the thunderbirds to help Bryce open a portal to Hel. Bryce was pissy with Hunt since he blamed himself for all the bad things happening. She didn’t let him deal with his trauma in the dungeons which pissed me off. She would acknowledge it for a second and then move on. Bryce and Hunt return to their bodies, and their friends are captured by the Autumn King, Morven, and the twins. [image] Hunt and Bryce attack the Autumn King and Morven, Bryce kills the twins. Ruhn comes and kills the Autumn King once he realizes his friends are missing, Bryce kills Morven. Lidia had also killed her father back in the day. By then, Lidia and Ruhn had bonded but she was dealing with her trauma from Pollux so Ruhn slowed things down. Ruhn gives Bryce the Starsword and they call her the Queen of the Fae. Bryce collected all of Theia’s magic and got Avallen to look magical again, the land was rebuilt over the corpses of the kings. Stupidass Ithan was tryna revive Sigrid and meets Jesiba. Jesiba makes him work for her and reveals she was a priestess at the library in Parthos 15,000 years ago. Apollion cursed her with immortality since he thought the books were magical weapons. Apollion had just eaten Sirius so some of his powers went to Jesiba and she used it to protect her books. Hypaxia was kicked out of her coven and had to give her crown to Morganthia. Despite that, Ithan is fucking selfish, he tells her to revive Sigrid. Hypaxia gives oaths to the House of Flame and Shadow and says they need to get Sofie’s body from Avallen to fix Sigrid since she became a Reaper when they attempted to revive her. When they get to Avallen, Ithan doesn’t ask how everyone is, how his friends were from the dungeons, or what they are planning. He just demanded to get Sofie and Bryce had to tell him that other things were important. Bryce asks Hypaxia to make an antidote for the parasites in their bodies from the water. Hypaxia made an antidote so fast, and Ithan had to take it to Bryce. Ithan goes to the wolves to tell them about the antidote. The Prime makes Ithan his heir when Sabine shows up with the Astronomer and Sigrid. Sabine kills the Prime and Ithan kills Sabine while Sigrid escapes after eating the Prime and Astronomer’s souls. Perry is someone who trusted Ithan, she saved him in the last book, and I believe she is his mate. Ithan becomes the Prime and wants to meet Connor, he needs therapy. Ithan and Hypaxia meet the Under King and Connor gives him a bullet made from all of the secondlight souls to give to Bryce. Ithan had taken the antidote and has ice powers so he freezes the Under King and Hypaxia kills him. So she is the ruler of the Bone Quarter. Ithan takes his time to rest and bury the Prime before heading to Bryce way too late, I hate him. Ruhn saying long live the queen to Bryce had me in tears. “Her brother only pressed a kiss to her brow and said, “Long live the queen.” Bryce was reunited with Juniper and Fury, they brought Cooper, Ember, and Randall with them. I hated Juniper and Fury, their friendship was useless. Bryce took Ember and Randall to Nena to open the portals. Bryce opened the portal to Nesta and begged her to take Randall and Ember in exchange for the Mask. I did think it was fucked up she left Cooper in Avallen. Nesta gives her the Mask and Bryce sends her parents in since it would be safer there. Hunt sees Isaiah and Naomi with Celestina when the Harpy appears. Bryce puts the Mask on and tells the Harpy to rest. Hunt wants to kill Celestina since she is the reason they were caught and tortured. Hypaxia broke things off with Celestina. Bryce and Hunt tell Isaiah and Naomi to control the Fallen, Bryce is gonna use the Mask to bring them, and they go into the mech suits that Rigelus left on Mount Hermon. Bryce opens the portal to Hel and Aidas and the other princes bring their armies. But Lidia finds out Pollux has her sons. When they get to the Asteri Palace, Bryce manages to kill one Asteri by using the dagger and sword, it created a portal to nowhere and sucked the Asteri in. Sathia found out that her childhood love Colin worked for the Viper Queen and left. Ruhn tells Lidia he loves her and they run down the halls but she is putting herself in danger. Ruhn shoots her leg and goes to Pollux to sacrifice himself. Tharion loses the antidote bag but finds it near Lidia. Pollux reveals Lidia’s sons so Tharion gives her the antidote and she begs Pollux to leave her sons. Ruhn says he is Lidia’s mate, he says to take him instead. Tharion got shot when he tried to use his powers to save them. Pollux is going to hit Brann but Lidia runs to him and has so much power, she burns Pollux from the inside out. So much has happened in this book I don’t even know if I can summarize it. What was sad was most of the twists were spoiled for me. Originally I knew the ending but that was it. But then people kept posting spoilers without warning and honestly, fuck those people. People are saying that if you took two years to read this book, it’s your fault for getting spoiled. People wait for series to be over or choose to pick up books later than others. I did this with Throne of Glass and I was lucky to have gotten spoiled on ONLY two things in the series. We don’t seek out spoilers, y’all just post it and ruin it for everyone. Putting a spoiler warning is not fucking hard. Anyway, I loved this book and am lucky I don’t have to wait to read the next book after that cliffhanger. You have to read the books in order and you do have to read ALL of SJM’s other books (TOG and ACOTAR). The characters, the storylines, the twists, the friendships, and the romance was everything. I am so glad I finally picked this up. [image] In Crescent City, Bryce used to be a party girl who spent her nights clubbing. After a tragic event two years ago, she is no longer the same. The Governor contacts her to help with an investigation. Hunt is to be Bryce’s personal bodyguard and Bryce is determined to find the suspect of the case. But to do that, Bryce has to relive her trauma and deal with Hunt. This book takes place after what happens in CC1 [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ We start off with a girl named Sofie who is half-human and half-thunderbird. The Asteri killed thunderbirds since they were seen as a threat. Sofie’s parents were rebels who were sold out and killed along with her grandparents. Her brother Emile was in a death camp in Kavalla. Sofie worked for the Ophion rebels/human rebels for three years to find where Emile was. The Ophion finally told her, she had intel and told them right as she went into the camps to ensure their safety. Sofie used magic to hold the gates and they escaped with some kids. Agent Silver risked his life to get Sofie, he loved Sofie and kept touching her to make sure she was there. But they were found by the Hind and her dreadwolves. Sofie had intel against the Asteri that could destroy them, intel that the Ophion wanted. She tells Agent Silver to take the kids and Emile to the boat, telling him to make sure Emile is safe. Thunderbirds could suck in magic and use it as their own. Sadly, Sofie tried to fight but was caught by the Hind. Mordoc is her Second, he helps the Hind put shackles on Sofie and throws her into the water where she drowns. Emile had gotten on the boats and Pippa was there. Pippa and Agent Silver were tryna be promoted in Command, the heads of the Ophion. Pippa hates all Vanir and believes she can use Emile as a weapon since Sofie told her he was a thunderbird. But, Emile escapes her cuz she scared him. [image] Bryce is living with Hunt but they agreed to get to know each other before they are official on Winter Solstice (and fuck). Bryce and Hunt meet her parents and watch Juniper perform, Juniper and Fury are together. They go to Ruhn’s place for a party and Cormac, their cousin, (Bryce’s half-cousin) shows up. He says that the Autumn King (TAK) said she is his betrothed. Bryce refuses but he says she has no choice. All Bryce and Hunt want is to live a normal life. Tharion is told by the River Queen to find Sofie’s body, he knows she is a thunderbird. He finds that Sofie’s shackles open and there is no body. He is engaged to the River Queen’s daughter and whines about it for the whole book. What pissed me off is this guy wanted to fuck her so bad that he promised himself to her. He thought when he woke up, he could reverse it, but now he’s stuck with her. The River Queen’s daughter isn’t great and acts like a child but Tharion signed himself up for that. He tried to manipulate the girl to get his dick wet and got fucked over. He flirts, checks out, and even fucks other people. At one point the guy kissed Bryce as a joke and I was like bruh what the hell, Hunt was laughing though. I found him charming at first and felt bad since he was stuck Beneath serving the cruel River Queen. But as I learned more about him, I found him to be selfish. He finds out Danika was emailing Sofie so he meets Bryce and Hunt, telling them he is looking for Sofie and Emile since the River Queen wants them. [image] Ithan was beaten up by Amelie and Sabine since he defended Bryce in an article where Sabine shits on her. Amelie’s sister sends him to Bryce’s place and she lets him sleep over. I hated that Ithan was in love with Bryce, I don’t get why everyone has to be in love with her. He backed off once he found out Connor loved her, I saw Ithan and Bryce more as brother/sister. Hunt tells them not to get involved with Tharion’s search. After the rebellion with Shahar, he knew not to go against the Asteri since he wanted a long life with Bryce. Bryce knew Emile was only 13 and scared, and wanted to find him. Ruhn, Declan and Flynn get involved too. All of them work together to find out how Danika was involved, if Sofie is alive still, and where Emile is. Jesiba had a surprisingly wholesome relationship with Bryce. Bryce worked in the Fae Archives, Jesiba was in a warehouse with her books. But when Bryce called with questions, she would help. [image] They think Aidas snuck in with his cat form and sat on Ithan, but it was later revealed it was Rigelus. He pushed everyone to join the Ophions and work against the Asteri. He says that the first Starsborn Queen Theia fought against the Asteri and we find out that Aidas loved her. Apollion killed Pelias for killing Theia which is a story for another time. He says he brought a rebel for them and it was Cormac. I was shocked Cormac was Agent Silver and felt so bad for him, I was hoping to see him reunite with Sofie but that never happens. His goal is to find Emile to keep him safe from the Ophion. Meanwhile Tharion was desperate to take Emile himself. Bryce is threatened by Reapers who take Ruhn and they hint at Emile being at the Bone Quarter, Cormac saves them. Bryce and Hunt go there and the Under King tells them that people who go there have second light. They are fed to the Gate and are made into firstlight, it’s a cycle. They are shocked that people don’t rest in peace, fight hounds, and manage to escape. Hunt had used the Gate that gave him magic and gave it to Bryce to charge her up. They escape and tell the others about the dead and Ithan is desparate to find out if Connor is okay. [image] IMO Fury and Juniper sucked as friends, don’t even get me started on Danika. Fury ghosted Bryce when Danika died and never gave her a proper explanation. Even after knowing her suicide attempt, she never contacted Bryce when Bryce contacted her for 2 fucking years. Juniper is treated like shit by her ballet school just cuz she held the doors during the attack. Bryce uses her Princess status to threaten the school to take away funding TAK gave if they don’t make Juniper Principal. Juniper is pissed and ignores Bryce for the rest of the book despite Bryce reaching out. I get that she’s mad, but does she not realize Bryce did this to look out for her? There was no malicious intent and Fury didn’t plan on helping them. She says to give it time just like Juniper told Bryce to do with Fury. Flynn and Declan are the definition of good friends. They have your back no matter, not abandon you when shit gets rough. [image] Bryce secretly found Emile and sent her mom secret messages. The Viper Queen helped find him and killed people along the way. Her mom agreed to adopt Emile with Randall and they name him Cooper. When Hunt finds out he feels like he is repeating history with Shahar since people were killed. But what’s great about Hunt and Bryce is they communicate. He saw the boy and realized what Bryce did and apologized. They eventually give up on the Winter Solstice agreement and fuck. Celestina and Ephraim have taken Micah and Sandriel’s place. Celestina wanted to make everyone feel like equals. She told Hunt that she had tried to buy him when he was captured but wasn’t allowed to, she was Shahar’s friend. Sadly, part of Sandirel’s triarii came to fill Justinian and Vik’s place, it was Pollux and Baxian, the Hammer and the Hellhound. He tries to rape someone and Baxian stops him. Celestina is forced to mate Ephraim since they need a distraction for the public cuz of Pollux and need more Archangels. When Hunt is at their first meeting, Sabine attacks Bryce in her apartment for taking Ithan in. So he leaves and Baxian follows, Baxian scared Sabine away. No one trusted him since he was so cruel with Sandriel. Hunt sees Baxian later and teaches him how to play videogames since they don’t have it in Pangera. Ithan goes the Astronomer to find out what happened to Connor. The Astronomer has four rings, 3 that imprison fire sprites and one with a dragon. He has 3 mystics and try to get answers about Connor but get nothing. The mystics were sold by their families to be laid in tubs and explore universes, they are treated like shit. Ithan realized that one of the mystics is an Alpha and a wolf. He visits on his own and tries to get her to leave with him. Since she doesn’t, he steals the rings and Flynn frees them. Ruhn had let Ithan live with him, Flynn, and Declan, who have become his friends. The three sprites were cute and the dragon was Ariadne, I ship her with Flynn. Hypaxia meets Bryce after she finds out her dad changed her name since she was using her princess title everywhere. Hypaxia and Celstina were together in secret but Celestina is forced to fuck Ephraim until she is pregnant. Hypaxia’s coven is tryna go against her and she doesn’t trust them. She tries to help Ithan summon Connor but it doesn’t work. She was supposed to be guarded by Ithan and Ariadne but Ari escaped and went to the Viper Queen. When Tharion found out, he saw her as a dragon and wanted to take her Beneath to the River Queen. He thought she would find out he fucked someone at the Archangel’s mating ceremony and wanted Ari as an apology, see why I don’t like him? [image] Cormac asks Ruhn to contact Agent Daybright who is their trusted spy. Sadly I was spoiled that this was the Hind (Lidia) but it made things so tragic. Ruhn and Lidia would meet through minds cuz of Ruhn’s gift and he started to get her to open up. He is always down on himself and his father abused him with flames so he covered himself with tattoos. Lidia’s father did the same, they found comfort in each other’s presence. She would let him lay his head in her lap as they talked. She had a veil of fire while Ruhn had a veil of the midnight stars. They would be interrupted because nasty ass Pollux would always fuck her while she slept, it was rape. She says she consented but you can see she feels pain when Ruhn tries to reach her mind. They eventually decide to meet at Ephraim and Celstina’s mating ceremony. At the mating ceremony TAK tries to introduce Cormac as Bryce’s betrothed but Bryce told everyone Hunt was her mate, making him a Prince. Everyone could already smell it since they fucked. They were clearly mates since he can’t control his body when Bryce is in danger. Originally they didn’t know what to call each other and chose to call each other mates, but they clearly have a mating bond. Ruhn is gonna meet Day but the Harpy ruined things. Once they meet in their minds, Lidia knows his identity but he doesn’t know hers. She is Hypaxia’s half sister and was sent away by her mom to live with her dad when she was young. Ruhn kisses her when they fail to meet and they eventually even fuck but every time, Pollux interrupts. Lidia had told Ruhn that the Asteri had mech suits to tell the Ophion about. Hunt says the suits were dangerous since they used firstlight and that had Pippa excited. So Hunt destroys the suits and they escape. But the Hind, Harpy, and Pollux find them, but luckily a ship appeared. “You remind me that I'm alive,” she said, voice thick. “You remind me that goodness can exist in the world.” Sendes was the Commander to the Ocean Queen and had saved them with a city ship that cannot be detected by the Hind’s Omega boats. They find out that Sofie had died and I was devastated for Cormac. What pissed me off was Tharion was tryna see if he can take the body to the River Queen, like bro Cormac just lost his love, stop being selfish. Her arm has a sequence carved into it and they write it down. Bryce finds out through Jesiba’s hints that Danika was looking into her lineage. They fall for a trap set by the Under King for Pippa to catch them at Urd’s Temple. Pollux and his crew come to kill the rebels. Baxian saves them and reveals everything. Danika was Mordoc’s daughter which was revealed by Ithan. Bryce didn’t know Danika’s involvement with the rebels. Danika was a bloodhound like her father which Fury found out. And Baxian reveals the rest, he has a tattoo that says Through Love All Is Possible, Danika’s phrase, he was Danika’s mate. At this point, I felt betrayed by how much Danika kept from Bryce. She made Bryce a weapon without her consent. She had a fucking mate, and didn’t tell Bryce anything. Baxian says that Danika didn’t trust the Asteri and he knew the sequence Sofie had on her since he told Danika it, it was a room in the Asteri Archives. Danika wanted Sofie to find out what was in the room and once Sofie found out the intel against the Asteri, Danika was already dead. Baxian met Danika and they knew they were mates, they didn’t tell Bryce since he was the Hellhound. They met once every two months at a hotel. Bryce realized Danika never dated in the last two years before she died and that’s when she met Baxian. I honestly felt so betrayed but I felt bad for Baxian too. It felt like he knew Danika more than Bryce, she even said I love you to him and she never says that to anyone. [image] Bryce decides that they have to break into the Asteri Archives. Ruhn told Day and she says its a trap but he wants to save her. Tharion breaks things off with the River Queen’s daughter and makes a blood oath with the Viper Queen who has full power over him. Tharion and Cormac go to the lab that made the mech suits to distract the Asteri out of their palace. Bryce sent Syrinx to live with Fury and Juniper who left the city. Cormac helps Hunt, Bryce, and Ruhn, teleport into the Asteri Palace. Then he goes rogue in the lab, killing Pippa and burning the lab and kills himself as Tharion escaped. Bryce finds out that the Asteri feed off the firstlight. Ruhn had run to the dungeons thinking he could save Day. Bryce finds out that the Asteri conquered planets and killed many, feeding off everyone. Rigelus finds her and says he was behind everything. He was acting like Aidas and behind Micah killing Danika. They had brought fae from different planets to live in Midgard to feed off them. The only planet they couldn’t conquer was Hel. Apollion, Prince of the Pit, had told Bryce to get ready for the war but she didn’t trust him. Queen Theia had closed the Gates during the last war so Rigelus wants Bryce to open them again. Hunt and Bryce are captured by the Harpy along with Ruhn by Mordoc. When the Harpy threatens to kill Ruhn, the Hind saves him and kills the Harpy. Ruhn calls her Day and she says Night, their code for each other and he feels betrayed that Day was the Hind as Pollux comes. The Hind secretly unlocks their chains and Pollux licks her neck and says they should fuck in front of them. Ruhn and Lidia are clearly mates since his mind screams to protect her. She had saved them by using a stone to summon a city ship before and even tried to save Sofie. Hunt and Ruhn want Bryce to escape and save the world. Hunt tells Bryce he loves her and Ruhn says she brought joy into his life. Hunt blasts magic to help Bryce teleport and Baxian was there and tackles Pollux. Rigelus goes after her but she manages to escape through a portal. Rigelus puts a halo tattoo back on Hunt but its worst this time and he doesn’t remember anything, Ruhn and Baxian are next. Azriel finds Bryce and sees her sword and he has the twin one Gwydion. He blindfolds her and takes her to Rhys’s place. Amren, Cassian, Nesta, Azriel, Feyre and Rhys are in the house. Bryce uses the Old Fae language to speak to them. Amren says it hasn’t been spoken in 15000 years. Bryce introduces herself so Rhys says the famous line “Hello Bryce Quinlan. My name is Rhysand.” Ithan had found out from the Prime that the mystic was another Fendyr heir, so he stayed behind to guard her body from Sabine. Declan and Flynn tell him that everyone was captured and Bryce disappeared. Ithan begs the mystic to come with him and she opens her eyes. I can’t wait to read the next book this shit was crazy. And honestly, if it weren’t for my bestie Mel, I would’ve struggled. I took 48 pages of notes but I had to condense my thoughts/summary because of the GR limit, let me know if I have anything wrong. This book has a lot of info-dumping because of the world building which makes it hard to get into. But keep pushing through and it is so worth it. Bryce is a character I started off not liking. But in the end, I liked her more than Feyre. This girl always put others before herself. The romance and slowburn was so well written, the world was beautiful, and the characters were everything. Ruhn is one of my favs, he grovelled throughout the whole book and Hunt is dreamy. This world has angels, mermaids, and so much more while being set in the present-day. I highly recommend you read this after reading all of SJM’s other books (Throne of Glass and ACOTAR). I sobbed, laughed and smiled, I adored it. [image] In Crescent City, Bryce used to be a party girl who spent her nights clubbing. After a tragic event two years ago, she is no longer the same. The Governor contacts her to help with an investigation relating to the tragedy. Hunt is to be Bryce’s personal bodyguard and Bryce is determined to find the suspect of the case. But to do that, Bryce has to relive her trauma and deal with Hunt. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Byrce is a 23-year old half-fae that lives in Crescent City (aka Lunathion), in the continent of Valbara on the planet Midgard. The other continent is Pangera where the Asteri rule in the Eternal City. The Asteri created the Malakim (angels) who were meant to be soldiers. Others angels were enslaved, known as the Fallen because of a rebellion from 200 years ago called Mount Hermon. The most powerful of the angels were Archangels and they were governors in Midgard, who only answered to the Asteri. Micah was the Archangel and Governor of Crescent City and had a legion/triarii called the 33rd. Micah’s triarii consisted of Hunt (aka the Umbra Mortis, Shadow of Death) his assassin, Isaiah was his commander, Naomi, Viktoria, and Justinian, all were Fallen angels. The beings of Midgard were the vanir (supernatural beings) and humans. Under Micah, there were 7 Heads who ruled in Crescent City. The 7 Heads were the Prime of the Wolves in Moonwood, the Fae Autumn King in Five Roses, the Under King in Bone Quarter, the Viper Queen in the Meat Market, the Oracle in the Old Square, the River Queen in the House of Many Waters, and Micah was Head of the Central Business District. The humans in Asphodel Meadows had no Head. Humans have rights but if they stepped out of line, they were enslaved. [image] Bryce’s biological father was the fae Autumn King (calling him TAK) and her mom, Ember, was a human. She was seduced by TAK when she was 19 but ran away to a temple after he scarred her face. She was pregnant at the time and 3 years later, TAK found out of Bryce’s existence and sent men. Ember met Randall who helped take her to the House of Earth and Blood where they sought refuge. During the journey, they fell in love. Danika was the leader of the Pack of Devils. The Pack of Devils helped protect the public. Bryce was the assistant to Jesiba, an enchantress that worked for the Under-King, in a gallery. She has a slave, a small fire sprite named Lehebah (Lele) who is Bryce’s friend and guards the magical books that were forbidden in Midguard. Slaves have the tattoo SPQM on their wrist, meaning they belong to the Asteri and Midgard. Bryce and Danika were besties and planned to do the Drop together. The Drop is done to stop the aging process and claim whatever powers you may have. You need an Anchor when doing the Drop and they wanted to be each other’s. Depending on what type of vanir you are, you may have more or less powers. Danika will have more since she’s fully vanir while Bryce is half. Danika was upset a guy named Philip Briggs was being released. He was the leader of the human rebels, who bombed the city to start a war between vanir and humans. Jesiba told Bryce to find the Horn that was stolen during a blackout. Danika tells Bryce to continue wearing the amulet Jesiba gave her for protection. Connor was Danika’s second in the pack and had a crush on Bryce for 5 years and asks her out. But Bryce was going on a date with a human named Reid. When Bryce goes on the date, she is pissed that Reid ignores her. She calls her friends Fury (an assassin), and Juniper (a faun and dancer), to go clubbing at the White Raven. Bryce texted Connor saying she wanted to give him a chance. But she did drugs with Fury and fucked someone in the washroom which pissed me off. Bryce is high when she returns home and is hoping to fuck Connor too. But she finds her friends dead, Danika was ripped to shreds with her pack. Bryce sees a demon in the hall and runs after it. She finds an angel injured and the demon disappears while Bryce calls for help. Hunt and Isaiah show up and Hunt staples her leg together since the demon scratched her. The angel Bryce saved was Micah, she had no idea. [image] Bryce was taken in for questioning and is shown recordings of Danika begging for her life. Hunt is the only angel that can wield lightning. Bryce’s texts are of her partying and telling Danika not to tell Connor she fucked someone, I was cringing. Ruhn runs in looking for Bryce. Ruhn is the Prince of Valbara, the son of TAK, and a Starsborn, he also had the Starsword. Ruhn had powers where he can control shadows but it takes him great effort since he has a drop of it. Since he is the son of TAK, he is Bryce’s step brother, but to the public, they are cousins. Bryce hates Ruhn after an event that happened years ago. Ruhn tells the triarii to release Bryce. Bryce didn’t go to Danika’s Sailing, which is when a boat with the body is sent to the Bone Quarter. It sails if the person is worthy or is dumped. Ithan, Connor’s brother, told Bryce not to come since she fucked someone the night his brother confessed to her. [image] Two years later, I hated that the first thing we see Bryce do is fuck someone in the White Raven. Apparently it has been awhile since she’s been there and she meets a client named Maximus. Ruhn comes to make sure she gets home safe. Bryce had met with TAK when she was 13 since she wanted to meet her biological father. He wanted her to go to the Oracle, where fae usually go to see their futures. Ruhn had the Oracle tell him that the royal bloodline will end with him. He doesn’t want Bryce to be recognized royally in case something were to happen to her. When Bryce went to the Oracle, she blinded it with powers she later revealed. Her father disowned her and she left crying. But Ruhn went to visit her and they were best friends for 3 years. They hated TAK but got into a fight since Bryce said TAK had Ruhn wrapped around his finger. Ruhn called her a half-breed slut for flirting with his friends. So for 9 years, Bryce never talked to him, but Ruhn grovels throughout the book. [image] Micah visits Bryce at the library and calls Jesiba, telling them that Maximus was killed. He asked Bryce to help with the investigation since it was similar to Danika’s case, Hunt is her personal bodyguard. At first, she makes Hunt sleep on the roof and makes him think she is stupid. But she got obsidian salt that can be used to summon demons to question the Viper Queen. She goes to the river in Istros and talks to Tharion, the Captain for the River Queen. They realize that everything links back to the Horn that went missing during the blackout two years ago. TAK told Ruhn to find the Horn since Micah played with his ego about the fae being weak. TAK tells Ruhn he has to marry Queen Hypaxia, the witch queen, but Ruhn doesn’t want to. Ruhn told Bryce and Hunt he found out that the Horn was broken after the First Wars. Pelias was the first Starsborn Prince and fought against the Star Eater, the Prince of the Pit. Demons came in different breeds and ruled over the Hel’s 7 territories, the worse was the Pit. The Star Eater bred kristallos, a demon, to hunt the Horn. That was the demon that Bryce saw in the hallway. Pelias used the Horn to close the Northern Rift and banished everyone back to Hel. The Horn was cracked and was never fixed. Ruhn insists on staying with Bryce so she says Hunt will stay with her in her guestroom. Hunt was the Commander in Mount Hermon which was led by his lover Shahar. Shahar wanted to kill Sandriel, her twin sister, the Governor of a quadrant in Pangera. Shahar led the army to stand for inequality and go against the Asteri. They lost the battle, Sandriel killed Shahar and Hunt became her slave. The Asteri got witches to tattoo a halo of thorns on the Fallen, it dampers their powers so they can’t rebel again. Hunt eventually went to Micah 4 years ago. Micah offered Hunt a chance for freedom, saying he needed to kill for every life he had taken in Mount Hermon. That was 2217 deaths that his army and he took and he only had 82 kills so far. Slaves freedoms can be bought, Bryce bought Syrinx from Jesiba who is a chimera. Bryce couldn’t afford it but is in debt to Jesiba. Fury had stopped contacting Bryce after Danika’s death and I honestly found it fucked up. Bryce would text/call her and Fury just ignored her. I know everyone deals with grief differently but when they have a conversation about this, Fury just talks about herself and how she is dealing with stuff but doesn’t consider Bryce. Bryce was close to committing suicide and Juniper stopped her. Fury knew this and never contacted Bryce even though she kept in contact with Juniper. [image] Hunt and Bryce become closer and they start taking pictures of themselves. They watch shows together and she calls him an alphahole. She went on a rant about alphaholes and it felt like she was talking about the Bat Boys from ACOTAR which was funny. Hunt cooks breakfast every morning and they would open up to each other. Micah would make Hunt kill as punishments for Hunt. One time, Hunt was in the shower and sat there defeated so Bryce helped him wash himself and let him put his head in her lap while he slept. I liked the small cuddle scenes between Bryce and Hunt. A medwitch helps Ruhn and it was Hypaxia. She talks about a drug named synth from two years ago. It can give humans the ability to have powers and make vanir more powerful with risks. Bryce recounts events that happened before Danika died and Danika made her get a tattoo on her back. As Bryce investigated with Hunt, Ruhn would make progress with Bryce. Any time Bryce called Ruhn, he answered right away and was there for her,. They realized that synth can be used to fix the Horn. Obsidian is part of synth’s ingredients so it kept summoning kristallos. The wolves treated Bryce like shit, when she went to visit to get clues, Ithan was there. Ithan reached out to Bryce when Connor died but she never responded. He was pissed she fucked someone else when his brother begged her to date and I get him. But his pack bullied her for the past 2 years and it sent her to the brink of suicide. When they insulted Bryce by drizzling her food with the word trash, Hunt threatened the pack leader Amelie. This resulted in Hunt getting his wings cut off by Micah but they can grow back. [image] I felt so betrayed when we find out Hunt was tryna buy synth from the Viper Queen with Justinian and Viktoria. Hunt and Bryce literally made out on the couch and thought about a future together. This was after Hypaxia did surgery on Bryce to get demon venom out of her body to make an antidote for synth, they were so close during the surgery. They saw a video on a flashdrive they found from Danika that showed synth’s symptoms. A company gave synth to humans and they would rip anyone apart, then they would rip themselves apart. Micah arrested them, ripped Viktoria out of her body, and put her into a glass box that he threw into the sea. They were forced to watch Justinian be crucified. Their prison nullify magic so their healing wouldn’t work so Justinian dies. I can’t imagine Viktora, she has no hopes of escape and is stuck in the bottom of the sea by herself. Hunt and Bryce had met Briggs before and Hunt felt like he was similar to Briggs. It felt like he was self-aware since Briggs was so caught up on his revenge he wasn’t thinking. But even after that, Hunt was thinking about starting the rebellion again with synth. He says he changed his mind but Bryce leaves. [image] Micah gave Hunt to Sandriel who Hunt hates, she tortured him for years with Pollux, her commander. Sandriel went through Hunt’s pictures and showed him the life he could’ve had with Bryce. Even though Bryce felt betrayed, she tried to buy Hunt’s freedom by giving Sandriel a cheque she got from Jesiba. She gave the amulet that she wore for protection but Sandriel melted it. So she offered herself in place of Hunt, she’s always sacrificing herself. Sandriel revealed to everyone that Bryce was TAK’s daughter. Ruhn stopped Bryce from sacrificing herself which pissed her off. She was being stupid, especially giving the amulet away. The kristallos came after her and Ruhn and his friends Declan and Flynn saved her. It annoyed me that Hunt felt betrayed by Bryce for not telling him she was TAK’s daughter. His lies didn’t compare to hers, he was gonna use the synth to start a rebellion. She just didn’t tell him she was TAK’s daughter, it was harmless. There was a Summit and Micah leaves in the middle. Everyone powerful is at the Summit while Bryce is at the gallery library. Micah shows up since he realized that Bryce was the Horn, Bryce called Jesiba and had everyone watch through the cameras. Micah has an evil villain speech saying he was behind everything. He killed the Pack of Devils by injecting Danika with synth and watched as she killed her pack and herself, it was fucked up. He was behind the bombings to make people believe it was the human rebels. He was behind the recent murders to get them to find the Horn for him. He wanted to open portals using the Horn to other worlds and send an army to kill the human rebellion. Then he was hoping to be recognized as Asteri. He used his magic on Bryce’s back since Danika ground the Horn and tattooed it to Bryce’s back. What’s fucked up is she never asked Bryce to do this and made her the Horn without telling her. Micah injects Bryce with synth but Lele helps lock Micah up in the washroom with the magical books. [image] Micah had drowned Syrinx in a tank with a nokk but Bryce saves him. She bought Lele’s freedom but Lele says her first act of freedom is to save her friends. Lele breaks the water tank and kills herself to slow Micah down. She is a fire sprite and water kills her, I was sobbing at this point. Bryce goes to Jesiba’s office who has a Godslayer Rifle. She shoots Micah in the head and slices him in half with Danika’s sword. Then she burns him and vacuums his ashes, it was iconic, she dumped him in the trash. But Micah had opened portals to Hel at every gate of their city. Demons were killing everyone and everyone was at the Summit hours away. Ruhn distracted Sandriel while Hypaxia got rid of Hunt’s halo tattoo. Hunt kills Sandriel with his lightning, severing her head, and they take Fury’s helicopter to the city. Bryce goes to the Meadows to protect the humans. Ithan comes to help and Hunt sent guards from the Viper Queen. When the shelter doors are closing, Bryce pushes Ithan in since they both can’t fit. Bryce had a secret that she was Starsborn and had the ability to blind people with the light from her chest. So she told everyone her goodbyes on a group call. She told Ruhn she had forgiven him ages ago and loved him but was too scared to let him in. She said to tell her parents she loved them. She told Hunt her goodbye and she used her light to close one portal. Sandriel had let the Asteri know before she died of Bryce’s gift. The Asteri viewed Bryce as a threat and bombed the city with missiles that nullify magic. Hunt managed to make it and covered Bryce’s body. His legs were gone and his arm, he was slowly dying. Even if his limbs can grow back, the nullified magic made it difficult. [image] Bryce finally does the Drop, asking for someone to anchor her and Danika manages to get through from the Bone Quarter gate. Bryce had traded her place in the Bone Quarter for Danika and Bryce will never have a place in the afterlife. Danika helps her make the Drop and the whole moment had me crying. By doing this, Bryce’s firstlight was able to heal everyone and bring their city back to normal. Hunt was healed and Bryce was even more powerful than TAK. It’s crazy that Bryce did everything, she killed Micah and saved the city on her own. Once everyone was safe, the Asteri call Bryce to warn her not to use her powers with the Horn. They act like they never tried to kill her. Hunt was freed by them, when you’re freed you get a C tattoo. Bryce and Hunt help Isaiah since he’s in charge of the 33rd legion. Ruhn hugs Bryce and tells her he never would have cared if she was more powerful. Juniper signed Bryce up for dance classes and Bryce said she would give it a shot. Hunt managed to help Bryce find happiness after suffering on her own for so long. All the characters are focusing on rebuilding their city. I was surprised I loved the grovel in this, Merrick did everything possible to get back with Kinley. This is the 5th book in the Boys of Tommen series and you have to read the books in this order: Binding 13 Keeping 13 Saving 6 Redeeming 6 This book focuses on our sunshine couple Claire and Gibsie. They have been best friends since they were babies and are each other’s life. Gibsie is battling his demons and Claire is the sunshine that scares them away. But the longer he waits to make things official, the further Claire pulls away. I would never cause harm to Claire Biggs. She was too important to me. She was everything to me. I was skeptical when it was announced that the future couples in the series would only get one book. This book was the shortest in the series, and we only get one book for Clibsie so the pacing was off. I liked the beginning since the transitions of recalling events in Clibsie’s friendship were done well, it wasn’t the typical past and present chapters. But then it felt like I was reading an entirely other book. The ending was abrupt, there was so much more that could have been explored. There was a focus on drama on other characters that took away from the romance between the main couple. It felt like long chapters were summarized into small paragraphs. This didn’t feel like a book for Clibsie, it felt like an epilogue for couples and an intro for other couples. There was repetitiveness of recaps of couples that we know. We know about JohnnyShannon’s and AoifeJoey’s stories. But every time they appear, Claire and Gibsie go into detailed monologues about them. The romance between Clibsie didn’t do them justice, this story was mainly focused on trauma. And I fucking hate the people who posted spoilers before the book was out. I was not able to view things in an unbiased way cuz I knew about one character’s traumatic past and it made me feel more hate for a specific character (starts with an L). These specific stans failed to mention certain spoilers (their fav character being the biggest fucking bully). I adored the family moments (but there wasn’t enough), and the friendships so I am rating this high, but it was disappointing. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ The prologue had me crying, it was the funeral for Gibsie’s dad Joe and his little sister Bethany who died while drowning, Claire’s dad saved Gibsie. Claire is 5 and holds Gibsie’s hand who is 7. Gibsie hates his mom’s boyfriend Keith and son Mark so he goes to Claire’s place and holds her hand while he sleeps. Fast-forward to the present, they have cuddled and shared a bed since then. They were best friends but they spent more time together over the summer. Gibsie and Claire tell each other they love each other but Claire believes he doesn’t love her the right way. They do everything a couple would do except intimate things and labelling their relationship. Gibsie has nightmares and the only person who knows is Claire, she cuddles him when he sleepwalks to her room. Gibsie’s nightmares got worse and were triggered after Lizzie pushed him into the water in K13. He sees a therapist but Keith lives with them and Gibsie hates him. Mark was abroad since he was accused of raping Lizzie’s sister. Lizzie can’t stand Gibsie cuz of Mark and blames Gibsie for her sister’s death. [image] Hughie and Gibsie crack me up. “See?” Grinning wickedly, Gerard waggled his brows at the same time as flexing his pecs. “I’m not corrupting her.” “Don’t you shake your tits at me,” Hugh warned, waving an accusing finger around. “And don’t even think about cooking up anything fishy in here with my sister, either.” “I don’t cook fish, Hugh, I bake buns,” Gerard shot back with a wink. “In ovens.” Or this “Ignore your cranky uncle, babies,” Gerard called over his shoulder, as he sauntered out of my room. “Daddy will be back tonight.” “Go the fuck home, Gibs!” “Fine. I need to go check on your nephew anyway.” “He’s not my nephew, you freak. He’s a hedgehog in hibernation in your mam’s hot press because you and my sister have issues with taking in strays.” Hughie saw Gibsie as his own brother and looked out for Claire; we see more of his personality in this book, he is a sweet brother even to Gibsie. But he was emotionally cheating on Katie with Lizzie, Gibsie called him out for it. Hughie and Lizzie used to be best friends but she shut him out when her sister died, they dated when they were young but she broke up with him and it broke Hughie until he found Katie. The friend group goes on a camping trip and it was nice seeing the group together, but it is ruined cuz of Lizzie. When Katie sees that Lizzie is eating marmite, she asks Lizzie why, it was harmless. This resulted in Lizzie making a comment about Katie having an eating disorder in front of everyone. “Yeah, because sticks and stones will break my bones and words will make me starve myself to death.” Lizzie narrowed her eyes. “Isn’t that how the saying goes?” Gibsie’s mom treated him well and was best friends with Claire’s mom but she forces Gibsie to accept Keith as a father. She cheated on Joe, Gibsie’s dad, with Keith while Joe worked his ass off. Once Joe died, Keith and Mark moved into their house and Gibsie hated it. Claire helped Gibsie get into a bathtub to help him get over his fear of water. They were parents of kittens and a hedgehog, it was funny seeing them fight over custody whenever they had fights. “You can’t keep my kids from me. I have rights.” “Are you serious?” I shook my head and gaped at him. “Oh my god, Gerard, I’m not going to keep the babies from you.” Gibsie was having breakdowns and kept telling himself he was fine. Dee, the school secretary, was nasty as hell and Gibsie ended things and felt guilty cuz of Claire. He would pleasure Dee but she never touched him. She was a predator who groomed him, they started when he was 15. Lizzie bullies Gibsie, she makes fun of his dyslexia and says he has no right to be happy. Claire and Gibsie stood up for each other, they were fed up with her bullying. It pissed me off that Shannon and Feely were excusing Lizzie because of her trauma. Trauma does not excuse bullying. Lizzie dismisses Gibsie’s trauma about his family drowning. She makes it seem like her sister’s death is more important. It was fucking disgusting, even when Gibsie said he lost his sister too, Lizzie didn’t care. If you were to say anything around her, she would turn it into something negative. Like when Claire told Gibsie she got a job, Lizzie told them not to make a big deal since it was just a job. She instigates a fight with Gibsie and mentions that the wrong sibling was saved the day of the accident. She is so fucked up for saying that and Gibsie believed it. Feely and Shannon were quiet when Gibsie was being bullied by Lizzie. But the second he starts defending himself, they tell them to stop fighting, like what the fuck? Why are y’all not calling her out for starting the fights? Claire and Johnny always had his back. “You’re instigating an argument,” Claire cut in, releasing her hold on me to face her friend. “Stop it.” “You’re always taking his side,” Lizzie snapped, throwing her hands up. “Every goddamn time, Claire.” Lizzie said the most traumatic, triggering things to Gibsie. Lizzie wanted Claire to choose her over Gibsie. Claire didn’t do that since she was close to Gibsie since they were babies. It wasn’t some random boy she was throwing her friendship for. Lizzie was treating everyone like shit and never prioritized others but she expected Claire to prioritize her. I felt bad for her and what she went through. But there is always a limit, people can’t always be punching bags. Shannon and Lizzie started a babysitting business without telling Claire. I love Shannon but she was bullied in the past, seeing her excuse Lizzie’s behaviour because “hurt people hurt people” just pissed me off. Would she say the same thing about Bella if she had trauma to justify her behaviour? Mark moves back into Gibsie’s place which triggers him. Claire tells Lizzie’s mom that Lizzie might be cutting herself again because of the cut she saw on Lizzie’s leg which Lizzie said was from barbed wire (Claire didn’t believe it). Lizzie shows up at Claire’s place to yell at her since her mom has heart problems. Gibsie defends Claire and Hughie is the one to calm Lizzie down. Gibsie stays at Johnny’s place and seeing him spooning Johnny was funny. Johnny and Gibsie’s friendship goes both ways, they are both loyal and needy for one another. [image] “Gibs, for the last time, stop bleeding spooning me!” was the first thing I heard my best friend say on Wednesday morning, swiftly followed by the heel of his foot digging into my shin. “Okay, ow,” I huffed, blinking my eyes open when pain ricocheted up my leg. “That fucking hurt, Cap. You know I bruise like a peach.” Claire got into a fight with Lizzie since she was hurting Gibsie. Instead of apologizing, Lizzie tells Claire that Jamie wants to ask her out. Jamie is a guy Claire went to a dance with as a kid and he tried to touch her so Gibsie saved her. Lizzie insists that Jamie is different but she was wrong. Gibsie heard Jamie talk about wanting to fuck Claire. Lizzie wanted Claire to move on from Gibsie since she believed he was a fuckboy. Hughie did mention that Gibsie fingered someone years ago. Gibsie admits to Claire he made mistakes in the past but Claire is it for him. When Jamie asks Claire out, Lizzie is the one who accepts the date on her behalf. If Claire did the same to Lizzie, Lizzie would have lost it and told her to mind her own business. Claire called her out saying that this was Lizzie’s way of trying to hurt Gibsie. Shannon was the one to notice Claire was uncomfortable and told Jamie to give Claire time. Not only did Lizzie not care that Claire was uncomfortable, it felt like her motive was just to separate Claire and Gibsie, and Jamie was a shitty guy. Aoife and Joey had their baby and Aoife is like their big sister. Joey joined Johnny and Gibsie and helped ruin Jamie’s car. “Okay, this could actually be fun.” Aoife grinned. “The sex talk: Aoife Molloy style.” “Molloy,” Joey warned, returning from his shower just in time to spoil the fun. “Whatever it is you’re thinking about telling them, don’t. They’re only in fifth year.” Claire decides to go on the date with Jamie and Gibsie is jealous. When Jamie kissed her, Claire pushed away and said ew and left. Gibsie asks how the date was and she admitted she hated it but was tired of waiting for him. Gibsie didn’t think he was mentally ready to be in a relationship because of his trauma. Claire continues to push Gibsie and he helps her masturbate in bed. He doesn’t kiss her but she is happy they made progress and he ends up avoiding her. He says he is scared to lose her since she is important to him and he loves her the most. They continue this back and forth for the whole book. Claire is mad at him and walks in the rain, he follows her and they finally kiss. During a party, Gibsie’s mom sends Keith to pick up Gibsie with Mark. There is a big fight and Gibsie runs away. Dee finds him and touches his crotch, he pushes her off and leaves. She was wearing a costume so no one knew it was her. Someone takes a picture and shows Claire who cries, thinking he cheated. Gibsie promises it was nothing but he doesn’t tell her who it was. “Me?” His eyes widened in outrage. “You’re the one in the relationship when you’re already in a relationship.” “I am not in a relationship, Gerard.” “Yes, you are,” he roared back at me. “With me!” “We are not together, Gerard.” “Yes, we are!” “I’m not yours.” “Well, I’m yours,” he came right back with. “I’m yours, Claire.” Gibsie asks Claire to be his girlfriend and Hughie tells Gibsie to never break Claire’s heart. Hughie was sick and I felt like he might have cheated on Katie with Lizzie. There was a shift and Katie became quieter. Lizzie has more breakdowns after she bullies people and Hughie is the one to calm her down. He would hold her to his chest in front of Katie, I can’t imagine how she is feeling. Lizzie continues to blame Gibsie for her sister’s death and when everyone reminds her that it was Mark, she says that Gibsie was his step-brother. I don’t understand her logic. If a family member does something, why is another family member blamed? She hates Gibsie more than Mark, I swear. Gibsie sees Mark in his room and we find out that Mark raped Gibsie from when he was 7 to 11 years old. My heart broke for Gibsie, I knew this spoiler because of Lizzie stans, but I didn’t know how young he was. Despite all of his trauma, all Gibsie did was put good into the world, even when Lizzie blamed him when he was the victim. Gibsie tells Mark to leave his house before he tells the cops what he did. Mark had a son and wife so he left. Gibsie works the courage to tell Claire since he has a suicide letter that Lizzie’s sister sent him. He tells Claire about Dee and Claire tells Dee to quit or she will tell the principal. “Gerard.” Her tone was soft, too fucking soft to handle in this moment, and when she covered the hand I had resting on the gearstick, I almost lost it. “It’s okay to not be okay.” Gibsie visits his father and sister’s grave and sees Darren visiting Lizzie’s sister’s grave. Darren is a victim of rape. Gibsie asks him questions about intimacy since he struggles with Claire, Darren sensed something and told Gibsie to contact him if he wanted to talk. I don’t understand why this was here since he never contacted Darren. Claire and Gibsie have sex in their treehouse. Gibsie was a virgin just like most Clibsie stans predicted since he believed Claire was it for him. I still wanted to know the details of him with other girls but it seems like he never let anyone touch him, only Claire. Later the group go to a dance, Gibsie forgets the tickets so Claire goes to his place. Claire accidentally took Lizzie’s sister’s suicide letter since it was with the other stuff. At the dance, Claire reads the letter with Shannon by accident. The friend group is in a room and Claire tells Lizzie to never insult Gibsie again. She ends her friendship with Lizzie and reveals that Gibsie was the real victim. In Lizzie’s sister’s letter, she says that Gibsie told her that Mark touched him inappropriately, she was his babysitter. Lizzie’s sister was dating Mark and thought Gibsie was jealous and shut it down. Months later, she walks in and sees it happen. She left the letter with a statement for the police and hoped that her presence being gone would help Gibsie heal. Lizzie screams she doesn’t believe it while Gibsie is in shock. His trauma was revealed to everyone by Claire without his permission. He had no time to prepare and it honestly was fucked up. I can understand why Claire did it, when you are so worked up to protect the person you love, you blurt shit out, especially since Lizzie was saying vile shit to Gibsie. Claire shouldn’t have done it and it should have been Gibsie’s choice, but I don’t hate her. Claire shows Johnny the suicide note. Johnny breaks down crying, hugged Gibsie and said Gibsie is his, I was crying. “And if you think this is going to chase me off then you’ve another thing coming, fucker, because I’m never leaving you. Do ya hear me? Because you’re my Gibs.” “And you’re my Kav.” Gibsie broke things off with Claire since he thought she couldn’t love him. Johnny didn’t leave Gibsie’s side and his mother separated from Keith. Mark left the country so the cops couldn’t arrest him and Gibsie refused to give a statement on Dee so she was never arrested. Lizzie didn’t believe Gibsie and continued to make things about herself. Johnny told Lizzie he was fed up with her behaviour and wasn’t gonna stand around anymore. “Back off,” Johnny warned, quickly cutting her off. “I get that you’re one of Shannon’s best friends, and I’m trying to respect that relationship, really I am, but don’t walk over a line here, because he’s my best friend, and I won’t hesitate to take his side.” They all cried for Gibsie when they found out the truth. Johnny encouraged Gibsie to meet Claire and they got back together. Claire apologized but she said she would do anything to protect him and wanted the truth to come out eventually, especially since Mark had a son. But Gibsie had to deal with people staring at him differently. The book ended so abruptly, right when they got to school, the friend group wasn’t the same and Gibsie asked Claire to take a walk with him. We never see how he deals with his trauma, how Claire and Gibsie continue their relationship, what Gibsie plans for the future, if Gibsie ever talks to Darren, a conversation between Gibsie and his mom about Keith and Mark, literally nothing. Gibsie has a care bear tattoo that’s brushed over when it’s clearly for Claire. So much could have been explored but it ended so fast. Lizzie’s bullying took up half the book and the trauma was the other half. We didn’t see many family moments between Claire and Hughie’s families. But I am still happy to have seen more Johnny and Gibsie moments. The book kinda left on a cliffhanger since the friend group was broken. I don’t know if we will get another book in the series since the bullies managed to scare the author away but I hope we do, even if I might be disappointed. “Snuggling my Claire-Bear equals a happy Gibsie. This is the fourth book in the Chestnut Spring series; the first being Flawless, the second being Heartless, and the third being Powerless. I loved the first two but wasn’t a fan of the third book. I recommend reading the books in order since you can connect with the characters and know their inside jokes. But you can probably read this as a stand-alone. This book was so damn good, Winter and Theo are my favourite couple in this series. There are a few things I didn’t like and the ending was rushed. Theo Silva reminds me of Flynn Rider, he’s just perfect. Winter is a misunderstood ice queen that deserves all the love. [image] Winter is married to a fucked up man and goes to Chestnut Springs to reconnect with Summer, her sister. She meets Theo who is Rhett’s mentee in bull riding, Rhett is Summer’s fiance. For the first time, she makes a reckless decision with Theo and that changes her life forever. “That night we were reckless.” His voice cracks. “But god, I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.” Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Winter is married for 5 years to a nasty man named Rob who complains about Winter leaving to work at a hospital. Winter used to love him but he groomed her little sister Summer. She calls him out, saying he saved Summer’s life as her doctor and started fucking her secretly once she turned 18. Then he met Winter who was age appropriate and dumped Summer, but he continued to stalk Summer. Heading to Chestnut Springs is Winter’s first step at moving forward. Winter calls Summer and she invites Winter to a family dinner. Winter goes to the gas store and sees a hot guy. Theo notices Winter staring and winks while smirking so she drives off. He’s a bull rider and his dad was as well, but he died. Theo is heading to Rhett’s family's ranch. The car in front of him is slow and he realizes it’s Winter. When they reach the ranch, Winter asks Theo if he’s insane for stalking and driving badly but Theo is amused, calling her “Tink”. Theo teases her about driving slowly while Winter says she doesn’t know the area and it’s snowing. Theo likes her, so Winter says she’s married but Theo says for now. Winter is Summer’s sister and Theo heard horror stories about her. Theo holds his hand out but Winter walks past him so he gives her a wink. Theo said he thinks he’s in love with Winter. [image] Summer hugs Winter and Harvey says she’s family. Theo starts to tease her about fucking so Winter tries to insult him on his skills. Theo apologizes for before and offers to drive her but she says no. Theo says he will drive in front to make sure she doesn’t hit anything. Winter thanks him and asks to buy Theo a drink. Winter tells Theo her mom Marina is a bitch and Summer’s mom was the nanny that their dad cheated with. Winter admitted Theo was easy on the eyes. Theo says he likes her as a person and Winter can’t believe him. Winter asks Theo to fuck and he says he would but she’s too drunk. Winter writes on a coaster that she isn’t too drunk to consent. Winter says it’s only for the night and they will act like it never happened. Theo signs the coaster but will ask for another shot eventually. We don’t see the fucking or them waking up until later. After 3 weeks Winter realizes she's pregnant and is shocked since she struggled with infertility. Winter sneaks into Summer’s gym to find Theo’s contact info. Winter called Theo and left voicemails but he didn’t call back. She thinks he deserves to know and thinks he would be a good dad if he wants but if not it’s okay. She texted him that she was pregnant with his baby and he said thanks for letting him know and leaves it. 18 months later, Winter dealt with the pregnancy alone and gave birth to Vivienne, divorcing Rob. It made no sense for this surprise pregnancy to happen without Theo’s knowledge. Theo has Rhett coaching him and would hear about Winter occasionally before, so how the fuck did he not know Winter had a baby for over a year? I think it would’ve been nice to see Theo and Winter grow together during the pregnancy. Rhett and Theo show up and no one knows that Theo is the dad. Theo’s text messages were the last Winter heard from him. Theo was riding a bull when he fell and it stepped on his shoulder. Winter ran to check on him and he says “Hi Tink”. [image] At the hospital, a doctor calls Winter by her name. Theo corrects him by calling Winter “Doctor Hamilton”. The doctor says Theo needs 3 months to recover and Winter says he is going to ride no matter what so they should have something for athletes. The doctor says she can take care of that after her maternity leave and Theo is shook. After a week, Winter sees Rhett, Theo, and Beau and Theo says he’s her new neighbour. Theo has a dog named Peter and says he won’t be there for long. Winter is in disbelief since he still hasn’t mentioned the baby, telling him to keep his dog quiet so she and Vivi can sleep. Beau was pissing me off, he said he’s surprised someone knocked Winter up when she isn’t nice and Theo defends her while Rhett tells him to stop. Theo asks if Winter is getting help and Rhett says she’s single. Theo asks who the dad is and Rhett says Winter said she was drunk and didn’t know who it was. Theo didn’t know that Winter was pregnant when he left. Theo asked Winter to tell him the truth and Winter was pissed. She said she called him and texted him and he said “Thanks for letting me know”. Theo hates that he missed the pregnancy, the birth, and time with his daughter. Winter lets him see Vivi but he barfs. Geoff who works at Kip’s (Winter’s dad) company, was the one who texted Winter. Theo wanted to disconnect with socials and gave his phone to Geoff, and got a new phone. Theo told Geoff to tell him if anything important comes up, but he didn’t. Theo says he would have been there for the baby. He wants to help and Winter cries while he hugs her. [image] Theo calls his mom to tell her about Vivi. Theo had Winter’s number on his new phone in case he wanted to contact her from the one-night-stand (ONS). I don’t know why he never contacted her in a year and a half. I get that he wanted to sort himself out but how long was he planning on taking? The only reason he talked to her was cuz of the rodeo. If he didn’t get injured, he would’ve been back on tour. Seeing Vivi happily reach for Theo had Winter in tears. Theo tells Winter to take a bath and relax, he’s used to babysitting. Theo is on the couch holding Vivi and Winter says she doesn’t blame Theo for hating her and Theo says he doesn’t and wants this. Winter sees a girl at Theo’s door who hugs him but he steps away, she asks to party like they used to. Theo says he has a good feeling about something so he says no, I love how direct he is. She didn’t realize he was with someone and Theo says he’s not, YET and he looks at Winter. Theo is good at everything with being a dad, he helped bathe, feed, and take care of Vivi. Winter brings up the girl they saw and Theo says he slept with her years ago but it meant nothing. Winter says he doesn’t need to feel obligated to be with her. Theo says he has been thinking about her since their ONS ended. So why didn’t he text/call her once bruh? [image] Willa and Rhett notice Theo sitting with Winter and Vivi. Cordelia still lives with Harvey and it’s been a year, she left her husband. She’s Harvey’s wife’s sister, sorry I hate that. Harvey says it’s obvious Vivi is Theo’s daughter. Winter says they’re like business partners which hurts Theo. Rhett pissed me off, he told Theo he knew Theo didn’t want this, insulting Winter, saying it’ll get in the way of Theo’s career. I loved that Theo cut him off and complimented Winter. But Rhett persisted and said Theo didn’t have to like Winter. Theo told Rhett to find someone else to talk shit to. Winter was surprised Theo defended her. Winter said she was terrible to Summer, she did it so that Marina wouldn’t bother Summer, so Theo told her to tell Summer. Winter told Theo she never had love until she had Vivi. Theo’s chest ached to hear that. Later, Theo hears Vivi cry and Winter apologizes for being loud and Theo takes over. “Baby girl, what is the commotion?” I coo as her tiny arms reach up for me. “You can’t be partying this late. Your poor mama needs some rest.” Theo calms Vivi down and takes Winter to bed. Winter says she doesn’t need his help and he says they’re a team. Winter says they’re business partners and Theo says they aren’t and kisses her. Theo stops their makeout since he doesn’t wanna take advantage of her. Winter woke up and found Theo SLEEPING IN THE CRIB WITH VIVI, OH MY GOD MY HEART. [image] Winter told Summer that she was excited to have a sister but Marina kept them apart. Marina left Summer in her crib when she cried. Winter snuck into the crib and held her when she was 4. Marina had a fight with Kip and took Winter’s dollhouse away. Winter realized that being close to Summer wouldn’t be good for her or Summer and is fine with being the evil sister. Winter said she loves her while Summer cried and said she isn’t evil. Theo and Vivi made her wanna be a better person. At home, Theo dances with Vivi strapped to him and cleans. Rob has been sending bills to Winter to bother her. Winter took nothing when she divorced him but he still bothers her which pisses Theo off. Theo booked Winter a manicure and massage. Theo told her to enjoy herself, this guy is a dream. When she gets back home, Vivi is playing with Theo and he cooked. Winter is gonna work out with a trainer but Theo didn’t want anyone touching her other than him. Winter asks Theo why he’s so nice to her and Theo says he likes her. Winter doubts it so Theo straddles her from behind. “Because your wellbeing has quickly become my number one priority.” “Why?” “Because I fucking adore you. Haven’t you been paying attention?” Theo says he got a new phone and focused on being a better person so he could call Winter someday. I still don’t get why it took so long, how long was he gonna wait? Winter feels wanted for the first time. Theo’s mom Loretta hugs Winter and Theo wonders how many hugs Winter has gotten. Winter stares at her nails and Theo knows she does this when she’s vulnerable. I love how he knows her well even if she doesn’t tell him these things. Theo gave her the coaster that had their contract from the ONS and hugs her. Later he sees her hug Summer and is happy Winter got three hugs. Loretta asked if Winter’s parents came to see Vivi and Winter says her dad cheated and raised Summer while her mom raised her. She tells her about Rob grooming Summer. Winter was pregnant at the time and she was infertile so she was heartbroken. Then she had a miscarriage and the only person who cared was Summer and Winter feels guilty for not treating her well. She wanted to make amends with Summer and had an ONS with Theo and was pregnant. Loretta called her strong and gave her a necklace, saying she’s family and to give it to Vivi someday. She says Theo loves easily but rarely loves hard, but he does with Winter. Theo called his mom the day of the ONS and said he met the woman he’s gonna marry. [image] Theo can’t stop staring at Winter at Summer and Rhett’s wedding. Kip comes for Summer’s wedding, treating her well, and Theo notices Winter is hurt. Beau dances with Winter cuz Harvey told him to apologize since he wasn’t treating Winter well. Winter is confused about Theo’s strong feelings and he says it’s like when she loved Vivi. Theo says he wants time with the ice queen which hurts Winter, he’s the first person to call her that. Winter leaves and Theo follows her into a washroom and she’s crying. Theo says it was a joke and that he’s tired of her not seeing what he sees. Winter admits she’s scared that if things don’t work out, Vivi will be stuck with parents that hate each other. Theo tells her he could never hate her. They end up fucking in the washroom. She asks if he hasn’t been with anyone and he hasn’t and she hasn’t either. Kip asks Theo to explain himself so Theo says Kip doesn’t even refer to Vivi as his grandchild. Theo said Winter isn’t his daughter until he makes amends, and threatens him to stop disrespecting Vivi. He says to get out of the way so he can spend time with his girls. Winter asks Theo to live with them and wants him for him, not just cuz he’s Vivi’s dad. Theo feels like he’s intruding so Winter lets him sleep with Vivi and her, telling him that he is not an intruder. [image] Theo confronted Geoff about his messages to Winter. Geoff thought he was cleaning his image but Theo told him he missed 9 months of his daughter’s life. Kip is shocked Theo didn’t know. Theo says Winter didn’t tell anyone since everyone treats her like shit and punches the table, he’s a badass. Theo called Kip out for not looking out for Winter. Theo fires Kip and Geoff and Kip says he’s gonna make things right, and fires Geoff. When Theo gets home, Rob is parked outside. Rob says he’s here to see his wife. Theo says no one married lives there but if he wants to harass Winter with bills, he can give them to Theo. Rob throws the bills and says to enjoy his leftovers. But Theo says they fucked before Winter divorced him and she isn’t leftovers. Theo threw an empty cup at Rob who drives off. Winter hasn’t reported Rob since it’ll drag Summer back to those memories. Winter admits she missed Theo and gave him a hug. Later, Winter looks for Theo at Summer’s gym where he works and sees him training some hot girl and gets jealous. Theo notices her and calls her his girl and kisses her in front of everyone. “That’s everyone, Tink. You’ve ruined me. Don’t you get it? I only see you. You’ve got all my attention. Every last bit of it.” They live together for weeks and Theo has bull riding. Winter didn’t want Theo to give up his dreams for them. Winter knew Theo wouldn’t stop bull riding, saying she will fix him herself if he gets hurt. Winter said they’ll be fine, saying they’re a family. Theo tells Vivi “Te vivo” which means “I live you,” and the last words his dad said to him. When Theo heads to the airport, he tells Winter “Te vivo” and she says it back. While he was gone, Winter gets roses from Rob with a paternity test, I fucking hate him. Winter calls Theo and tells him that Rob wanted the paternity test. Theo says he’s coming home but Winter says she doesn’t need saving. Theo says they’re doing this together and asks if Vivi was his daughter. Winter is stunned and says they’ll find out and she hangs up. Theo regrets it but has a nagging voice thinking Vivi might not be his even if she looks like him. He wants Vivi and Winter regardless of the results. Theo’s love language is acts of service and it hurts him that Winter doesn’t want that from him. Theo wants time for himself and sleeps, turning off his phone. Luckily Winter understood Theo, she was relieved he lashed out since he’s been so patient this whole time. Summer says she wants to report Rob to the medical board. Winter calls Theo but it goes to voicemail. Winter wakes up and still can’t get a hold of Theo and booked flight tickets. Theo wakes up when Winter knocks on his door. Winter says she called all night but he didn’t answer and she couldn’t sleep. Theo said he had a weak moment and she said he shut his phone down once and it didn’t end well and Theo apologized. Winter says she loves him so much that he isn’t allowed to shut her out. Theo hugs her and says he loves her too. [image] Theo wins the match and tells everyone he has a family and a future wife. Kip texted Winter that he has a family lawyer to deal with Rob. He’s gonna get a divorce from Marina. When Theo said he didn’t want to go to court, Winter begged him to come and he was so sweet. “I will go wherever you want. I will wear whatever you want. I will never turn my phone off again. I will always, always be there for you. For Vivi. You don’t need to beg, and you don’t need to say please. For as long as I live, for as long as you need me, you’ll have me. Okay? Never doubt that.” Winter changed their daughter’s name to Vivienne Loretta Silva and she is Theo’s. Winter takes Rob’s nasty flowers back to him that were mouldy. She gives him an envelope with him being reported to the hospital, and said he went too far to come for her family. She hasn’t fucked him since she found out he was a predator. Winter tells Harvey she knows he’s with Cordelia and he says he is but isn’t ready to tell the family. Kip had Winter’s old dollhouse that he found in an alley. Kip says he hasn’t been there for Winter and Theo gave him a wake-up call so if Winter is willing, to reconnect. Kip’s reunion with Winter was too rushed. Theo carries Winter to the place where he first met her and proposed. He said he knew he loved her from the start and was glad they were reckless that night. We end with Winter being a tour doctor for the bull riders. Theo is in another match and Winter tells him she is pregnant again and we’re done. Flawless is the first book following Rhett and Summer and it is adorable, and the second book is Heartless, CadeLukeWilla ARE EVERYTHING. So going from them to this was just plain boring. Still, I was glad to get crumbs of my fav couples. The beginning of this book wasn’t terrible but it was anticlimactic. As I went on, I grew bored of the characters, especially since they are away from the family for most of the book. I didn’t care for Jasper or Sloane. Jasper kept giving mixed signals that made no sense and Sloane was too boring for me. But I can finally read Winter and Theo’s book! [image] Jasper is an NHL goalie who is childhood friends with Sloane. Sloane has always had a crush on Jasper but she got engaged to someone else. Once she gets an anonymous text message before her wedding, she turns to Jasper for help. Jasper will do anything to protect Sloane so once she asks him to help her, he decides to help her run away from her own wedding. Jasper: Sunny. Be less cool. Come save me. The waitress keeps trying to talk to me. Sloane: So talk to her. Jasper: I don’t like talking to people. Sloane: You talk to me. Jasper: You’re not people. Sloane: Lmao. What am I then? Jasper: My person. Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Sloane is engaged to this spoiled rich asshole named Sterling. Jasper was best friends with Sloane since they were kids. Sterling ignores her throughout the dinner which pisses Jasper off. Jasper is a goalie in the NHL and had a rough upbringing. Jasper is practically brothers with the Eaton brothers and Sloane is their cousin. Jasper calls Sloane “Sunny”, which is adorable. Sloane met Sterling 5 months ago, her dad has a partnership with Sterling’s dad and is rushing the marriage, Jasper hates her dad. On the wedding day, Sloane doesn’t wanna get married and cries. She’s always liked Jasper but he didn’t return her feelings. A private number texts Sloane a video of Sterling cheating on her. Cade and Rhett are there with Summer and Willa. Willa overheard Sterling yelling at Sloane so Jasper goes to check. Sterling fucked a stripper the day before the wedding. Jasper pushes him to the ground and Sloane says she wants to leave and go to the ranch. When they’re gonna escape, Willa falls to the ground acting like she’s in pain while Cade is trying not to roll his eyes, I fucking love them. Jasper gives Sloane a piggyback ride and looks at her in a heated way, too soon bruh. When they get to the ranch, Harvey tells Jasper that Beau is missing. Harvey was the one who loved and raised Jasper. Harvey said Beau was on a mission and the military is doing an investigation since something went wrong during Beau’s mission. We see a flashback of someone bullying Jasper because he was homeless. His parents abandoned him and he lived in a Honda car. A guy was hitting Jasper and Beau hit him back. Beau says he can take what he needs and come live with him. [image] Jasper was leaving for his game and Sloane tags along. She got a jersey with his number on it. Sloane buys makeup and asks him about her face and he says she’s his girl and looks good in anything. Sloane watches Jasper during the game and he doesn’t do well. Jasper tells his teammates that his brother Beau went missing. His coach Roman says he needs to take time off since family comes first, suspending him and giving him a hug. Sloane’s mom Cordelia called and said if she were Sloane, she would stay away, supporting her. Jasper is sleeping in his childhood bed and Sloane hears him punch the wall. He’s gone to therapy after losing his sister but it’s getting to him again because of Beau. Sloane is wearing his jersey and goes to his room, cleaning the hand he hurt, and he’s turned on. Ever since she got engaged, he realized he wanted her. He thinks back to when he used to rub her feet. After seeing her moan, he saw her as a woman and stopped. He didn’t wanna be with her since they had an age gap, they were friends, and he didn’t wanna complicate things (which doesn’t match up with his reasons in the future). He starts punching his pillow and says his head is fucked up, he hates that Beau is missing. Sloane tells him to move over and sleeps in bed with him, they cuddle. [image] We see a flashback of Sloane asking Jasper out to prom. Jasper was 24 and she was in high school. Jasper says he can’t since she deserves better and he’s in the media and old. He wants to be with her now but sees her engagement ring, she isn’t ready to say goodbye to her old life. Harvey says Violet, his daughter, wants him to drive up with a trailer full of hay. Cade and Harvey wanna stay home in case there’s news about Beau, plus Willa is pregnant. Jasper says he will do it and Sloane says she will go too. Sloane asked if Jasper thought of her and he says he did every single day, I doubt that. Sloane says they should play I Spy and Jasper says something blue which is one of his favourite things in the car. I knew immediately it was her eyes, and she is shocked. Jasper noticed Sloane’s ex and dad calling and asked if she was gonna answer. Sloane told Sterling and her dad she doesn’t owe them shit, Jasper is proud. [image] At the hotel, they get two twin beds and Jasper has a flashback of his family when he passes out. His little sister Jenny and he were driving quads. Jasper crosses the highway and his dad tells him to check if it’s safe. Jasper turned to his family when he sees a trailer passing the road. He makes a signal to stop but realizes his sister doesn’t know those signals. His sister ends up getting hit, and their dad tried to prevent it but it was too late, and Jasper blames himself. Sloane is in the water outside and she dares him to go in, asking what Beau would do, so Jasper strips and joins her. They go to a restaurant and Jasper convinces Sloane to play pool and she doesn’t know how. He stands behind her, the typical close proximity shit. She tells him she feels like she’s in a movie and he says it isn’t like a movie since they’re just friends and that hurts Sloane. She sees girls fangirling over Jasper. They ask if Sloane is with him since she has the ring on and she says no they’re friends. [image] The girl asks Jasper to sign her shirt so he holds her shoulder and Sloane hates seeing his hands on another woman. Then a girl asks him to sign her boobs and Jasper says no. She says they can do it in the washroom and Jasper is uncomfortable. Sloane tells the girl to stop embarrassing herself and the girl insults Sloane for whoring it up with Jasper. Sloane laughs and Jasper takes her away, it woulda been nice to see him stick up for her. Sloane is drunk and Jasper says she needs to drink water and accidentally throws the bottle at her face. He lets her do a facial on him and Sloane stares at Jasper while putting the clay mask on. When it’s his turn, he stares at her mouth. Sloane couldn’t handle the tension and said she would do the rest herself. The next day, Sloane apologizes for cockblocking him, he says he likes sex but nothing that comes with it. Sloane says she’s seen him with women and he says he doesn’t know them well, just fuck buddies. It’s cringey seeing Sloane act this way and it also shows Jasper’s feelings for Sloane IMHO isn’t as strong since he’s fucked around this entire time. Jasper’s mom only calls him for money, his mom got on drugs and is in prison or rehab and he blames himself. His dad has a wife, kids, and a cat. He blames Jasper for the accident and said nothing when he saw Jasper. Suddenly, the brakes on the vehicle are malfunctioning and Jasper is tryna stop. [image] Jasper manages to get them off the road and uses an emergency brake. Jasper is in so much shock he recoils. He isn’t hearing Sloane calls his name so she climbs into his lap. She presses her forehead to his and says she’s okay and he finally looks up and holds her to him. Her nose has a little bump from the bottle he accidentally threw so he asks if her nose hurts. He kisses her nose, forehead and cheek. Then he starts to kiss her jaw and lick her, and he says he can’t ever lose her. He says he might fuck up what they have and kisses her. He stops and says it isn’t the right time or place. He says she’s too precious to take chances with so she asks when is the best time and he says when he says so. Sloane is pissed he’s only realizing now that he likes her. Jasper says he knows she likes him since she reciprocated during the kiss and Sloane told him her feelings never went away. He says they both had their careers and got busy and she got engaged but she was mad. They got to an inn and they didn’t have separate rooms. There was only one bed so Sloane asked for a cot. Jasper is relieved but shocked that she liked him for 18 years. Sloane asks how she’s supposed to believe weeks after she would’ve gotten married that Jasper was into her. She’s angry since she’s liked him for years and seen him with other women and thought he always saw her as the little cousin. [image] Jasper said when she was 18 and he was 24, he helped her move in. But Sloane’s dad saw and told Jasper not to cross the line with her or he will get Jasper off the hockey team. Jasper never thought of Sloane as anything then but he had nothing but hockey. Since Sloane’s dad was rich, he could pull strings to get Jasper off the team. Jasper says he missed her first ballet show in fear of her dad. But he isn’t afraid anymore and she’s his. Sloane cries, thinking about how her dad manipulated everyone. Jasper wipes her tears and asks how to make her feel better but she leaves to take a shower. Jasper goes in after she’s done and Sloane goes into the washroom to see him masturbating. He continues while telling her to sit on the counter. Sloane hangs out with Violet and her friends who are from another series, I honestly didn’t care. Violet set up a cottage for Jasper and Sloane. Once they’re in the cottage Sloane asks if they’re gonna hang for a bit at Violet’s. Jasper asks what she wants and Sloane is pissed, asking him to tell her what he feels for once and Jasper says he’s afraid of losing her. Sloane says he’s never gonna lose her and to fuck her since she’s been dreaming of it for years. He says he gets off on telling Sloane what to do and having control. He says she doesn’t need that since she’s always had men boss her around. I don’t know what the fuck is going on. First, he says he saw her as a sister and their age gap and doesn’t wanna ruin their friendship. Then he says he started feeling things when she got engaged. She dances since she was a ballerina while Jasper goes to games and comes home, they both live together. They hang out with the family and Sloane hangs out with Willa and Summer. Jasper and Sloane are in their car when they see Winter get out of hers, yelling at the guy behind her which was Theo, he calls her Tink. She starts crying and Jasper says he knows it’ll hurt to lose family so she should go mend the relationship. But Sloane is afraid her dad will ruin Jasper’s career since he has connections. Sloane asked if he’s willing to gamble on that and Jasper stops talking. This is why I can’t take Jasper seriously. Sloane says she can’t always put Jasper back together if they’re gonna be together. All Jasper had to do was say he was willing to gamble with his career cuz he loved her but he doesn’t and it hurts Sloane. Willa, Winter, Summer, and Sloane, go out for drinks. Sloane says she wishes Jasper showed he wanted her as much as she wanted him. She’s tired of it since she ran after him her whole life. [image] Jasper told Harvey that Sloane asked if he wanted to gamble with his career and he wanted to make sure he can and fixed it with his team. Harvey asked if he told Sloane and called his kids idiots. Once Jasper comes home, he calls Sloane but she’s with the girls. He sleeps in the house next to theirs rather than meet her. Harvey asked if Jasper loved Sloane and he did. But Jasper never said it because the people he loves either die or leave him, god stop. Harvey says Sloane has been patient with Jasper and it’s his turn to prove he wants Sloane. There’s a knock on the door and it’s Cordelia, Sloane’s mom, HARVEY’S WIFE’S LITTLE SISTER. She says she needs a room and Harvey says she can stay. Cordelia tells Jasper not to let Sloane’s dad or Sterling get to him. AND HARVEY IS STARING AT HER WITH INTENSITY. Sterling comments about Sloane whoring and Jasper kicks his chair. Sloane says her dad should think about how to deserve a relationship with her and Sterling needs to get lost. He asks for his ring back and Jasper said he fucked it off her. Jasper apologizes for taking so long and they say they love each other. It was nice seeing the family together, even Luke. 6 months later, Harvey and Cordelia still live together and bicker. Cade has his baby girl Emma and the family is together at Jasper’s game, Beau is back and healing. Jasper’s team wins and he proposes to Sloane. Harvey walks Sloane down the aisle since her dad doesn’t come. Harvey gave Jasper some land as he did with his other sons to keep them close. He said Jasper is his son and he’s proud of him, it was so sweet seeing him pour his love out to everyone. Jasper got a tattoo on his ring finger. I’ve been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and there are a lotta cowboys including my man Arthur Morgan (no spoilers I’m not done yet). So when I heard this was a book taking place in a small town about cowboys, I ate it up. Rhett and Summer’s banter was funny. I loved all the characters, I look forward to reading Cade’s book, Willa is hilarious. I loved the family moments, Rhett is the guy that falls hard and he even grovels a lil near the end. Summer has a backbone and both Rhett and Summer always take care of one another. [image] Rhett is a bull-riding cowboy who fucked things up with his sponsorship after talking shit about milk on a recording. Once the public hears, his reputation is in shambles. Kip sends his daughter and worker from his company over to Rhett so that she can make sure Rhett is on his best behaviour. Rhett can’t stand the idea of having a babysitter. Summer needs to live with him for 2 months and straighten his image. “Taken many bullets, have you?” My voice is weak, and I hate that. “No,” he husks, “but I would. For you, I would.” Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ Summer works at a company owned by her dad Kip. Kip is pissed since he is Rhett’s agent, a bull rider cowboy. Rhett was heard dissing his milk company sponsor, saying milk tasted like shit. They lost the sponsorship and millions of dollars. When the paparazzi bothered Rhett, he punched one of them. Kip wants Rhett to behave himself so he asks Summer to be his babysitter. Rhett just got to Calgary, Alberta at Chestnut Springs. Kip tells Rhett he lost his milk sponsorship and Rhett is shocked. Kip says that Summer will be Rhett’s assistant and will keep him in line for 2 months. Rhett needs the money since his family needs it for their ranch. Kip said Summer is living with him and she’s his daughter so he should be careful. Rhett doesn’t want a babysitter and storms off. [image] Kip with Summer Summer: Heading out there now. Dad: Be safe. Don’t let that asshole in your pants. Summer: I’m really more of a skirt gal. Dad: -_- Summer goes to Wishing Well Ranch and meets Rhett’s dad Harvey. Rhett is the youngest of his brothers, his older brother Cade hasn’t been with a woman since he divorced. Cade’s son named Luke ran away from his babysitter. Rhett’s convos with Kip have me dying Rhett: Want your daughter back yet? I promise I’ll be good. Kip: She’s not even there yet. Rhett: Think of all the time you’ll save her by calling her back now. Kip: No. Rhett: Please? Kip: Don’t try to be polite. It doesn’t suit you. Rhett: Suck a dick. Summer meets Cade, Luke, and Rhett and Luke says he wants popcorn. Summer tells him about mixing chocolate in which annoys Cade. Summer tells Rhett to follow her and he’s so petty he stays behind for a bit. Summer meets Beau, Rhett’s other brother. Cade and Beau realize Summer is living with them and is gonna be Rhett’s babysitter. Beau tells Summer they’re gonna go out for drinks. Rhett takes Summer to the bar, he is known for partying and fucking around but he stopped. We meet Bailey who is a shy waitress and Beau softens when he talks to her. He tells Bailey to give Rhett a drink saying it’s from his future wife. When Rhett gets the drink, he’s confused. Beau, Jasper, and Summer keep sending Rhett drinks with milk and a cherry on top as a prank. Rhett is horny thinking about Summer’s mouth and joins them. “Wait.” Beau’s face brightens. “Did you get assigned a babysitter?” Rhett groans and drops his head back against the couch. “I don’t like my babysitter either, Uncle Rhett.” Luke pats him like a dog Summer invites Rhett to go to the gym and while doing exercises, they have funny banter and Rhett has a crush on her. Rhett’s shoulders and arms hurt from bull riding. Summer gives him exercises and stretches that will help. At the bull riding tournament, Rhett calls Summer “Princess” and Summer is worried about Rhett’s injuries. Rhett’s friend Theo does bull riding too, he is younger and Rhett takes care of him. Rhett gets a high score but people barely cheer for him, seeing him sadly stare down made me wanna hug him. Summer whistled and Rhett smiled, it was so fucking cute. Rhett is in more pain and Summer goes to his room with medication. She tells him to stop riding but he doesn’t want to, his family wants him to stop but he loves it. Rhett doesn’t want Summer to leave his room. He can’t move his arms to put the cream on so she does it for him. Once she’s done, she realizes he can’t put a shirt on so she stands between his legs and does it for him. The next day Summer’s hands are cold and turns out her room has no heater. Nasty ass Emmett asks if Summer is fair game and Rhett says no. Theo’s father trained Rhett and in exchange, Rhett helps Theo. Rhett gets on the bull and Summer whistles for him. [image] Summer told Rhett he rode the fuck outta the bull. Emmett ruins the moment by saying he does the same with buckle bunnies, that’s what they call the women they fuck. They seem tense on their way back to the hotel. Rhett asks the woman at the front desk to fix Summer’s heater. The woman slid her number to him which he threw out. He told Summer he isn’t a pig and Summer said she knew. Her hotel is still cold and her ex Rob calls her. Rob saw her on TV cheering Rhett on and told her to be careful around guys like him. Rhett comes into her room pissed it’s cold and says she’s staying in his room. Summer starts fussing over him eating junk. He tells her to eat and lets her have the last chicken wing. He says she has sauce on her face. She asks him where and he touches her mouth. Summer is tempted to kiss him but pulls away. Summer tells Rhett to sleep on the bed since he’s injured. She asks about Rhett’s mom and he says she died while giving birth to Violet, his little sister. Summer’s mom was a nanny taking care of her sister Winter. Kip cheated on his wife with the nanny and the nanny gave Summer to Kip. Summer’s stepmom doesn’t like her and tries to make her relationships strained with everyone. Even though Kip sucked as a husband, he was a good dad. Summer had a heart defect and the surgery went wrong. Kip stayed in the hospital the whole time, taking care of Summer. Rhett held Summer’s hand and realized Summer’s feet were cold and used his feet to warm her. I love the one-bed cuddling trope gaaah. Summer is snuggled up against Rhett and he can’t stop staring at her. When Beau hits on Summer, Rhett is so jealous it’s funny. I dump the dregs of my coffee and leave the cup in the sink. Beau can fucking wash it, put that military clean streak of his to use for flirting with my babysitter right in front of me. Summer takes Rhett to his appointment and he tells her she doesn’t have to be there and can be with Beau. Summer jokingly says she needs to stop him from hitting on the nurses. Rhett is insecure since people around him think he hasn’t grown up. Summer says she doesn’t see him that way but they’re interrupted by Winter. Winter is cold to Summer and Rhett is protective. Winter says Summer has a poster of Rhett at home. He knows he’s gonna make fun of Summer later but hates that Winter said it to embarrass her. Winter says he can join the family dinner since it would be a dream come true for Summer. Rhett thinks she’s a bitch. Summer yearns to have a relationship with Winter but because of her stepmom, Winter doesn’t talk to her much. They see Rob’s car and Rhett realized that when Rob called Summer, the game wasn’t televised. Rob went outta his way to find Summer, so creepy. Rhett says they should kiss in front of him so he would back off, Summer says it means nothing. Turns out nasty-ass Rob was Summer’s heart surgeon. She was a teenager and she says they didn’t do anything until she was legal, fucking disgusting, that means she was groomed. Kip had no idea, only her best friend Willa knew. Rhett says he needs to be reported. Summer says she knows it’s fucked up but he saved her life and Rhett is pissed. [image] Rhett and his brothers are off to pull a prank. The Jansens sell drugs and shit. Bailey is their younger sister but they hate the Jansens like the rest of the town. Summer has been distant from Rhett since the kiss so he wants to do something to get attention. They put toilet paper all over a tractor, they’ve been doing farm pranks on them for years. Rhett climbed into the tractor when the Jansen boys are back. Cade and Beau ride their horses away while scaring Rhett’s horse, so he’s stuck. Rhett walks home once the Jansens are gone. Summer rides Rhett’s horse and he’s so happy to see her. Summer and Rhett ride the horse together and she’s annoyed that he pulled pranks. He nips at her ear and asks her if she ever gets tired of pleasing people while flirting but that pisses Summer off. She gets off the horse and asks for space. Once she’s back she says she doesn’t wanna let her dad down. Rhett realizes no one has really taken care of Summer hugs her. He pulls her leg around him and she’s so tempted to kiss him. But she stops it and says she can’t hook up with athletes if she wants to succeed in her job. She tells him to find someone else and Rhett is upset. [image] Cade is pissed thinking Rhett is irresponsible and riding bulls while fucking around. Summer tells Cade that Rhett is doing this for him, I love how they defend each other. Summer was sweet for saying she was proud of Rhett since he needed to hear it. He does another bull riding match and Summer sees him watching her and runs to him. She was ready to be with him but she sees him with someone else. Rhett is just talking to the girl but Summer is upset. So when Emmett asks her out, she says yes. The girl who pulled Rhett aside was actually asking about Theo. Theo and Rhett are at the bar and Rhett is jealous to see Emmett and Summer together. Summer rides a mechanical bull and once she’s done Emmett puts his hat on her head. She puts a shot in her boobs so Emmett can do a body shot and at this point I’m annoyed. Rhett tells Emmett to back off. Summer tells Rhett he’s doing the body shot instead. Rhett takes the shot and takes her away. He says that when a cowboy puts his hat on a girl, it means the girl will ride the cowboy. They stare at each other and Summer puts Rhett’s hat on herself. He asks her what she wants and she says she wants to fuck, so they do. [image] Rhett asks Summer why they have to hide their relationship. Summer doesn’t want people to think she sleeps with clients. Rhett knows Summer would rather be a personal trainer in a gym and asked why she worked for her dad. She did it to repay him since he ruined his relationship with his family to take care of Summer. Rhett tells her she doesn’t owe her dad anything, saying she should focus on being happy herself. Rob calls and Rhett tells her to answer. He gives her oral while Rob tells her she shouldn’t be with men like Rhett since they’re another uneducated and another breed. Summer invites everyone to watch Rhett but none of his family comes to support him. Beau says he wants to take Summer out to dance. Rhett grinds his teeth so Harvey tells him it didn’t matter whose eyes were on their mom since her eyes were always on him. Rhett looks at Summer and her eyes are on him. At the bar, Summer is dancing with Beau and Rhett cuts in and kisses her in front of everyone. Winter calls and says Kip had a heart attack a coupla hours ago. Summer asked why she didn’t tell her sooner and Winter said Summer couldn’t do anything with a law degree. At the hospital Summer asks what she did wrong, it wasn’t her fault she was born outta an affair. Winter stares at her nails and Summer said she could’ve missed her last moments with her dad. Rob shows up AND TURNS OUT, HE IS WINTER’S HUSBAND. WHAT THE FUCK? Rhett calls him out for preying on a teenage patient and then marrying her older sister. Rob is stupid enough to turn to Summer and say he told her to keep her mouth shut. Rhett punches him saying no one speaks to Summer that way, Kip’s door is open and he saw the whole thing. Winter is shocked and Summer asks Rhett to leave since he told her secret to everyone. [image] Winter did wanna call Summer but Kip told her not to. Kip asked if Rob forced her into anything and she said no. She had a crush on him when he was her doctor and at 18 she ran into him at the bar. He took her out for a drive and they were together for 2 years. But then he met Winter and asked Summer not to tell her anything since he was dating her. For some reason he still called Summer or tried to have convos with her at family events. Fuck him. Marina, her stepmom wakes Summer up and tells her to get out. She said homewrecking is hereditary for her. It’s fucking cruel to say, Summer has nothing to do with the cheating. Summer tells Marina she feels bad for her for being such an evil person. Rhett was waiting and said he cared about her. She said it was her secret to tell and he didn’t respect that. He said he had no idea Rob was part of her family, the creep. Summer says Rhett’s family is scared every time he goes bull riding, how people have feelings. She feels she owes it to her father to tell him herself. She says she has no one who cares for her and Rhett says he cares for her. She asks him to leave since he has a competition but he said she’s more important. Rhett asked what about us, Summer said she wants him to leave. Despite her pushing him away, he texts her later asking if she’s okay. Summer texts Winter apologizing and Winter says there’s nothing to forgive. She says she isn’t ready to talk since she’s pregnant with Rob’s baby and he’s been lying to her for years. Kip said he didn’t hate Rhett and knew she’s in love with him. They watch the match and Theo falls off the bull, his body is lifeless and the bull charges toward him. Rhett runs in front of Theo’s body to shield him and takes the hit of the bull. [image] Kip sends a message to Rhett saying he hopes he isn’t dead since Summer is freaking out but would kick his ass if he did die. Summer comes crying and Rhett hates that she’s scared for him. He doesn’t wanna hurt her and she told him to check himself in. His ribs look bruised but Rhett hates when people tell him to stop riding. He said he made it too far to stop so he isn’t getting himself checked yet. Summer tells him he should and he says that they slept together for a coupla weeks but to back off. Summer gets up and leaves, man this hurts. He ended up texting Summer the next day apologizing. Cade storms in asking if he got rag-dolled by a bull. Rhett says he tried to protect Theo, Theo has a concussion but rode the next day. “I open my mouth to answer, but Cade cuts me off. “No, he’s not okay. He rides fucking angry cows with testicles for a living. He’s standing crooked like a broken cock. And he’s clearly got more than a few screws rattling around in his thick head.” Cade is pissed when Rhett says he’s gonna continue riding. Cade says when Summer was around, she had Rhett’s attention so he didn’t do stupid shit. He says Rhett does everything for attention and Summer is too good for Rhett. He tells Rhett he loves him and doesn’t wanna see him doing something that can ruin his life, I love Cade. When their mom died, Cade was the one who watched his dad be a shell taking care of Violet. Cade was the one who took care of Beau and Rhett. When he became a single dad, he realized that he will never stop worrying about Luke. Rhett says he intends to stop and put his money into the ranch. But Cade says he doesn’t need his money and wants Rhett to find something else he loves doing. Rhett spams Summer’s phone but she isn’t answering. When Kip came to talk to Summer I cried. Summer told him she was a burden and Kip said she isn’t. Kip wants Summer to find something she loves doing. Kip fires her and gives her 6 weeks of pay. Summer sees Rhett and she’s hurt because Rob said something similar when he broke things off. He said they were just sleeping together and she hated that Rhett did the same. I love the lil grovelling, I love how he doesn’t give up. Rhett tells Summer he’s sorry for hurting her and thar he loves her and she’s his priority. When he’s about to leave, Summer asks how his ribs are. He says they’re fine and she asks if he’s gonna ride and he says he is. Despite him saying she’s his priority she thinks bull riding will always be his priority, and one day he might die doing it and leave her alone in the world. [image] Summer meets Willa who is so funny, can’t wait to see Cade and her together. Willa asks if Summer loves Rhett and she does. Willa books their tickets to Vegas for Rhett’s next competition. Rhett is at the match and is starting to realize that he doesn’t wanna see people get hurt by bulls. He feels fear for the first time and all he’s thinking about is Summer. He sees Summer in the crowd and she gives him a thumbs-up and she says she loves him. He goes to Summer because he knows staying on that bull isn’t worth it. Rhett says he quits and retiring. Rhett asks Summer to tell him she loves him. A year later Rhett got a job as a coach for bull riding. They have another house built into Wishing Well Ranch. Rhett had a truck his mom gave his dad and wanted to paint it the same colour as his mom’s eyes. Summer took his truck to surprise him and painted it. Winter still hasn’t talked to Summer but Summer has her own gym where she trains athletes. Rhett proposed to Summer in the cheesiest way and they get their happy ending. I couldn’t stop once I started, but this book wasn’t amazing imho, at points things were a lil overexaggerated and dramatic. I really liked Luce, I felt bad for her since she dealt with so much shit, she’s a misunderstood ice queen. Sebastian was immature and stupid but he was sweet, he wasn’t your typical cold CEO. I found that both Sebastian and Luce's POVs sounded exactly the same which I hated. I did find it weird that they met when she was 14 and he was 23, it was one brief interaction. They meet again 11 years later after that one interaction and he doesn’t remember her but it’s still weird sorry. [image] Luce has been neglected her whole life in her family, she is the heir to Peery Diamonds. Although she is the CEO of Peery Diamonds, she needs to marry to get access to her money and company. Sebastian is the CEO of a rival company and after his step-brother fucks up, he has no choice but to marry Luce. He wants nothing to do with Luce since he thinks she’s a psycho based on rumours. He plans his revenge on Luce for putting him in this position. [image] Now for spoilers [image] (view spoiler)[ This starts off when Luce is 14, she has a step-sister named Vonnie who is rude as hell. Vonnie’s twin Karl sucks as well, stealing things while Luce’s parents enable it. Vonnie stole Luce’s pearl necklace and when Luce asks for it back, Vonnie licks it. Luce goes to her dad to complain and hears his secretary in his bedroom. Luce walked in on them fucking when she was 11. Her mom didn’t believe that her dad was cheating. Her dad said he needed to teach Luce how to share since Luce’s grandpa will give her his inheritance. Her dad says he wishes Luce were never born so the fortune of Peery Diamonds went to his kids from his previous marriage, Vonnie and Karl. Luce’s mom never gives her affection, her dad wishes he never had her, her siblings hate her, and even her grandpa is pissed she was born a girl. Poor Luce walks out crying, Vonnie is so happy she encourages it by telling Luce no one wants her. Luce meets a guy who is 23, he gives her his coat. When he offers to take her to her parents, she asks for something to drink. He takes her to his hotel lobby and gets her hot chocolate, Luce is hostile at first but apologizes for being snappy. Luce opens up about her family hating her and just wanting her money. He gives her advice to get revenge by taking away what they want. He insists on letting Luce have his coat and gets the hotel to drive her home. Her grandpa is pissed that no one noticed Luce left. Her father isn’t concerned and her mom is tryna ease the tension while Vonnie and Karl put on an act. Luce turns into a badass and tells her grandpa that Vonnie stole her necklace. She calls her dad Roderick rather than Dad. Luce tells Vonnie to give her necklace back. Once Vonnie gives it back, Luce throws it into a fire. She knows her grandpa wanted a son so that they wouldn’t be soft. Luce’s grandpa asked why she did it and she told him Vonnie licked her stuff and she didn’t want it, but she didn’t think Vonnie deserves to have it either. Her grandpa is proud and Luce finds the guy’s credit card statement in his jacket pocket. His name is Sebastian, he is inheriting Sebastian Jewelry, the rival to Peery Diamonds. [image] 11 years later, Luce’s grandpa passed away so Karl is done acting like a good person. Karl stopped working and just gambles. Roderick acts like he’s helping Luce but he’s just spending money on himself and his kids. Since Luce isn’t 30 or married yet, nothing is going Luce’s way. The laws in Nesovia, where they are currently, are on Roderick’s side. Luce is getting married to Preston who is part of the Comtoises family. He is part of the Sebastian Jewelry dynasty and Luce sees this as a business deal. They will have a joint launch for Sebastian Peery in Korea. Preston needs to sign a contract where it allows Luce to have access to all her assets after the wedding. Her assistant is Bianca who is her childhood best friend. Preston and Luce barely know each other, she wanted to marry Sebastian but that didn’t work. When she had the guts to ask to marry him for this business deal, his team refused. When she goes to the suite she booked for a photo shoot with Preston, she catches him fucking Vonnie. He was so stupid, he said he got nervous and wanted to practice with Vonnie. Vonnie was wearing Luce’s engagement ring and shoes. Luce told Preston the deal was off and walked out like a badass. Preston is Sebastian’s half-brother and thinks he can just get money without working. Sebastian kicked him out of the company. His mom tells him that he needs to marry Luce and he doesn’t remember her as the girl in the city, just the heir to Peery Diamonds. He has a girlfriend named Gabriella, he doesn’t plan on marrying her but he doesn’t wanna marry Luce. His mom tells him that he will get percentages of shares with both Peery Diamonds and Sebastian Jewelry, and his family agreed to it. Preston fucked up since he fucked Vonnie and Luce caught them. If Preston married Luce he would’ve owned Sebastian Jewelry. Sebastian is pissed since he worked his ass off for the company. This gives his rival a lot of control over his company. He’s pissed that Luce crossed him and plans to get revenge on her. Sebastian was pissed his family signed a contract behind his back so he called them all to sign a contract that allows him to have control over their trust funds. If they don’t sign it, he won’t marry Luce. They can’t give their money to anyone since his mom does this with Preston. Luce shows up at Sebastian’s office and Sebastian calls her Valkyrie. He says he’s in love with someone else and she feels guilty. Sebastian is super whiny and his POV is too similar to Luce's. He says he doesn’t want her living with him, hating her so much. Luce thinks they can stay at her place and says they have to go on dates for publicity. Sebastian meets Gabriella to break up, he doesn’t really care. She’s one of his models for his company (I’m surprised this wasn’t a problem) and says he wants her to continue to work there and have an amicable breakup. Luce knows Sebastian doesn’t remember her since she saw him at her mother’s funeral 7 years ago. When she cried he wiped her tears and defended her when Roderick told her to stop crying. Luce admits she doesn’t have full power over the company because of the laws in Nesovia. She plans to move her business to America once she has full control. She offers him a favour and he says it isn’t needed but she says it’s always on the table. They notice the paparazzi so Sebastian kisses her. The media said Luce stole Sebastian from Gabriella, they usually shit on Luce so even if it hurts she’s used to it. Bianca’s uncle is in an accident and Luce gives her a credit card. Sebastian sees articles posted about Luce and notices everyone is shitting on her. Sebastian sets a date with Luce and is surprised she isn’t talking about the articles. He asks her about her PR team and she isn’t concerned. Sebastian hates when innocent people are screwed over and says he will take care of it. Luce has a separate room and office for him. He asks what he needs to do if he wants to fuck and she told him to be discreet. He’s shocked she is ready for him to cheat and thinks she slept around and might have STDs. The man thinks she does drugs and orgies. He says he doesn’t wanna sleep around and they both make out and give each other hand jobs. Luce is relieved he won’t cheat but feels like the other woman since she thinks he loves Gabriella. Sebastian is pissed that Luce ended up getting what she wanted and wants revenge on her. Yuna is working as part of the company in Korea for the joint venture. Sebastian met his brothers and asked them to buy shares at Peery Diamonds. He plans on stripping Luce of her title as CEO of Peery Diamonds, which is so fucked up since he knows she loves her company. Sebastian's brother cancelled tennis plans so Luce offers to play with him. He is immature and sexist, so they have a bet for sexual favours, whoever wins owes the other. Luce sees Preston and they tell Preston they are married. Sebastian defended Luce when Preston tried insulting her, ready to beat him. Vonnie and Preston challenged Sebastian and Luce to a match. Vonnie and Preston pathetically lose the match and run away. Luce jumps on Sebastian and he kisses her. Luce believes it’s miscommunication. She gets flowers from Yuna who congratulates her on her wedding. Luce offered to ship Liam some ice cream. Luce has been working overtime to deal with the joint venture in Korea. Sebastian sleeps in her room and he asks her about her business and is shocked she dedicates so much time to it. She tells Sebastian she wants to finish most of the project before the shareholders’ meeting so that they know she’s worthy of being CEO. Sebastian says he will support her but forgot about his planned revenge. Sebastian and Luce have the reception and Sebastian gives her butterfly pins for her hair. Roderick and Karl made it to the party without an invite. When Karl starts insulting Luce, Sebastian threatens Karl to back off. Luce runs into Gabriella who says that it was low of her to act like she won Sebastian. She said that Luce was the one that invited her when she didn’t. Luce goes to get Tylenol and Karl is there, screaming and telling Luce to give him his money. Roderick tries to manipulate Sebastian but Sebastian can see what he’s tryna do and is shocked that Luce's family is like this. Sebastian sees Karl slap Luce and beats Karl up, his brothers stop him from killing the guy. Sebastian takes care of Luce, cleaning her bruises. He held her while she cried and made her feel better. His brothers ask if he still wants revenge on Luce by buying shares and he says that’s another matter, which is so dumb since he knows what she’s dealing with. The media has a story about Luce stealing Sebastian from Gabriella. They have pictures of Gabriella at the party and no one knows how. Luce sees pictures of Gabriella and Sebastian together online and is upset thinking he might have sent a gift after he possibly cheated since Roderick did that. The team in Korea got back to Luce and according to Bianca, they said they want Gabriella as their model. Sebastian tells Luce someone used her internet and sent pictures of them at the party using an anonymous email. Luce asks if Sebastian asked the Korean company for the joint venture to ask for Gabriella to be their model. Luce says he loves Gabriella and doesn’t need to sneak around. Sebastian says he lied to piss her off and would never choose the company over a woman he loves. Luce tells him to stop lying but Sebastian is pissed and kisses her. She tries to push away, felt like dub-con, but they end up hate-fucking. Sebastian held Luce the whole night and gave her the morning-after pill. Luce gets her period and when he comes to her room she says they can’t fuck and to go back to his room. But he holds her and rubs her stomach to help with cramps every night. But Bianca is Luce’s childhood friend and has defended Luce. Luce asks someone to help get access to Bianca’s phone. Bianca is the one who contacted the paparazzi to tell them where Luce was. She was the one who let Roderick, Karl, and Gabriella into the party. She’s the one who fucked up the deals. When Luce confronted Bianca she turned into a psycho. She called Luce stupid and said she hated Luce for buying everything for her, how Luce was a loser with no friends. She loved messing with Luce, didn’t even ask Sebastian’s family for him and asked for Preston instead. This whole thing was stupid, it was just too bizarre and weird. Luce gets the security to take Bianca out, the girl really thought after her evil villain speech that she would have a job. Sebastian sent flowers and realized he really loved Luce. He remembered about the shareholders' meeting and didn’t want her to lose her job as CEO. But his brothers already voted against her being CEO. Sebastian asks for the list of shareholders and asks everyone to vote for her. Sebastian tells his family to vote for Luce and he will give them control of their money as long as they don’t give it to Preston. When Luce goes to the meeting, she is voted out. Roderick says it’s thanks to Sebastian’s brothers that Luce isn’t CEO. She is numb and doesn’t even cry, it fucking hurt to see her this way. Sebastian said he didn’t mean for this to happen, at first he was mad but after he thought she needed more experience, he didn’t know it was Bianca’s fault. Luce knew he did this for revenge and asked him to leave. Luce sent back all of Sebastian’s things including the coat he gave her 11 years ago. He realized she was the kid who walked around alone. She asks her lawyer to file for her divorce and her lawyer said her company is finally being moved to America. Luce moved houses and Bianca goes over to her place screaming that Sebastian is suing her. Luce finds out Roderick and Darren are gonna be arrested for their fuck ups in the company. Luce doesn’t care, she doesn’t know how he can make it up to her for his own fuck up. Sebastian asks to meet so Luce agrees to meet at a club. [image] Sebastian booked the whole club so they were there alone. He was sad to see her not wearing her ring. She asked him if going after the people who fucked up was his way of saying sorry. He says it is and she asks if he plans on suing himself and he says he doesn’t, but he wants to clean up her company for her. She says she isn’t there cuz of him which makes him feel bad. He says he wants the favour she offered when they first got married. He asked for three dates and she can see he is desperate and agrees. Sebastian is in a limo for their date, he says he remembers her 11 years ago and she grew up to be amazing, it’s weird but since he never remembered her Imma move on. Sebastian takes her to a private art gallery of an artist she’s been dying to see. Luce asks what he would do to get her forgiveness, she asked if he would crawl for her and he did it immediately. I’m sorry it was a bit weird but he hugged her by the waist which I thought was sweet. Sebastian took her on a picnic for their second date. He says he wants her to be CEO again but if she doesn’t want to, he will support her. She asks what if she goes out with other men and he admits he’s possessive. She asks him to prove it so he kisses her but before it can get any further, he stops and says he loves her. Luce has a hard time believing it so he stops and says he can’t go further until she believes it. He sends a bouquet that means have faith in me. For their third date, he takes her to his store and closed it for the day. He showed her the joint venture jewelry and said all his brothers’ shares will go to her. He put his own money on the line for her so that she can go back to Peery Diamonds. He was willing to divorce her so that he can court her again. He then proposed to her with another ring and she says yes. They’re gonna fuck and he got a tattoo over his heart saying he is the property of Luce. She calls him crazy asking what he would do if she didn’t accept him and he said his heart is hers, this is a bit too cheesy and weird I’m sorry. A subtle tattoo is better yaknow? A year later Luce and Sebastian ended up divorcing and are gonna get married again. Their joint venture was a success in Korea and Luce is doing well as CEO.
