Any individual who belongs to the “Tribe of Tremayne” possesses one or more remarkable capabilities, and they have been taught by the couple who raised them to be helpful to others. In the first book of the Dangerous Gifts series, I learned about fascinating people and two of my favorites are featured in the next book. One was born into the Tremayne family while the other became a member because of what he could offer, but also because of compassion. There is one adventure after another in GOLDEN LORD, and Mary Jo Putney kept ramping up the peril along with heightened emotional situations. There was never a time when I was not fully immersed in the vividly described events, and it was certainly not easy to stop reading for any reason. The Earl of Tremayne and his wife took in Caden and other children because their unusual skills had led to their families not wanting them. His abilities now come in handy as an agent with the British Home Office in keeping England and its people protected. His latest assignment is to make certain an ambassador to France is brought safely back to England, as the two countries are on the verge of war in 1803. Going with Cade will be Tamsyn Tremayne, who is the Earl’s biological daughter and has her own distinct talent. Though both sense there is danger, the journey goes well until almost over. Then before the group can board an English ship, chaos breaks out and Cade is taken away. Now it is up to Tamsyn to discover where the man who means much to her is located and make sure he gets back to their family in England. Since I am a big fan of the paranormal, the Dangerous Gifts series really makes me a satisfied reader as it combines the supernatural with a compelling romance. Any scene where mystical situations take place always seemed convincing, and I liked how the author seamlessly worked these moments into quite a few developments. Many happenings featured details that historically occurred, from places to what transpired, thus making the story constantly seem realistic. How the relationship between Cade and Tamsyn would eventually play out definitely kept me guessing, as it is complex with numerous challenges. I laughed with these two at times, yet also felt their anger or despair when something did not go as planned. A number of feelings are displayed as this couple work through issues that arise, and Ms. Putney repeatedly came up with a clever way to solve any problems. GOLDEN LORD is unexpectedly innovative plus packed with risky exploits and lots of emotion. ...more |

Sometimes a tragic event will bring two people closer while other incidents will tear them apart forever. In the twelfth book of The Coltons of Owl Creek series, a man and woman have suffered with guilt and grief caused by the same occurrence from over three years ago, never reaching out to the other. When they are reunited again, emotions run high and choices are conflicted. Colleen Thompson cleverly blends unforeseen peril and touching moments all throughout COLTON’S K-9 RESCUE, creating a riveting romance where futures are uncertain and challenges are constant. Although Malcolm Colton was not supposed to be looking for the man who is a known murderer, he was not going to let anything stop him along with his K-9 companion from searching despite the bad weather. Found instead is Giselle Dowling, the sister of the woman that he was going to marry until an accident took her away from both. While she previously worked with well-known people as a ghostwriter, an incident has led to her now living in a secluded mountain cabin thinking about what to do next. Malcolm feels Giselle needs to leave the area because it could be risky, and shortly thereafter, his prediction comes true. This results in them remaining together and trying to figure out just exactly what happened in the past plus wanting to make a determined killer pay for his crimes. I have read many books from Colleen Thompson, and she always keeps my interest regardless of what is happening. All throughout COLTON’S K-9 RESCUE, scenes range from suspenseful to delightfully amusing, and each one was written with believability and plenty of vivid descriptions. I knew exactly what was at stake for Malcolm and Giselle when a situation turned dangerous, but I could not guess on how all would turn out. If she is playing with lovable puppy, the moments are portrayed with humor yet also compassion. Malcolm and his dog, Pacer, are a great team, too, and I enjoyed each time they were together. The relationship of Malcolm and Giselle is extremely complicated, and adding a killer into the mix makes things even more problematic. Both struggle with their feelings time and again, especially since the author kept tossing in another problem for them to prevail over. Whether you have read any of the previous books in the series or not, enough background will let you comprehend exactly what is taking place. Colleen Thompson has created another riveting romance with engaging characters and plot. ...more |

With its accurately described details of the Regency period plus having individuals portrayed with realistic behavior, COMPROMISED WITH HER FORBIDDEN VISCOUNT is continuously enthralling. Diane Gaston also repeatedly interweaves history that occurred in this era into the storyline, which makes situations come across as even more believable. How people reacted to gossip was definitely a big part of this society, and the author certainly brought this into how the main couple’s lives played out time and again. I became caught up in what would happen to many of the characters in the story, and Ms. Gaston did not disappoint in how uncertain circumstances were ultimately resolved. When Viscount Neal Willburgh, who is known as Will, went to Vauxhall Gardens with some other men, he was not really interested in attending any of the festivities taking place during a masquerade. Deciding to go for a walk around the grounds, he comes upon a woman in need of immediate assistance and offers his aid. Unfortunately, helping her results in them making the decision to wed shortly thereafter because of mistaken assumptions. The situation becomes even worse when the female turns out to be Anna Edgerton, as their two families have been clashing for generations. Although there is unspoken attraction between Will and Anna, almost all their relatives seem to want their relationship to come to an end. Any upcoming choices made will greatly affect the futures of Will and Anna, and surprising revelations may also impact what happens to them. Whether a scene was packed with emotional upheaval, of which there were quite a few, or if a moment had turned romantic, I was always kept engrossed in what direction the relationship of Anna and Will would take. These two had much to overcome if they would ever be truly happy with one another, and Ms. Gaston tossed one trial after another into the lives of this couple. Greed, deceit, and more than one lie had me wondering how anyone could make a marriage work, and I fully enjoyed seeing how these individuals would react to various happenings that were often unanticipated. There were numerous times when I just could not stop reading, as what would occur next had to be discovered. Rating – 4.5 Stars ...more |

In the second book of the Lost Legacy series, Colleen Thompson combines emotional situations with escalating peril to create a suspenseful story that kept me riveted during every enthralling development. There are so many unknowns in AMBUSH AT HEARTBREAK RIDGE, and I often had no idea as to what direction the storyline would take. With numerous incidents where jeopardy was unanticipated to scenes filled with sincerely depicted feelings, there was never a time when my full attention was not totally captivated by what was occurring in the lives of the two main characters. As for the ending, the author definitely kept my guesses changing at to how all would ultimately work out for the featured couple whose lives and hearts were often on the line. After a family goes missing in Texas Hill Country following a car crash, the local sheriff’s department is handling the case. Sheriff Hayden Hale-Walker is being assisted by Kate McClafferty, as her skills in search and rescue are outstanding. The couple have a complicated past history, both personal and professional, and she was even a deputy at the same location until their working relationship went sour. When the circumstances involving the individuals who disappeared takes an unexpected turn, Hayden and Kate find themselves caught up in happenings that are also risky to their own safety. While I always enjoy a story written by Colleen Thompson, this book was especially entertaining. The large number of suspenseful confrontations in AMBUSH AT HEARTBREAK RIDGE certainly made for enthralling moments, and the dangerous aspects of each were believably portrayed and easy to visualize. There were a few instances which really made me nervous because of how the outcome could play out. The emotion-filled episodes were genuinely heartfelt, and I got a sense of exactly what Kate and Hayden were thinking at all times along with how the situations repeatedly affected them. I was also pulled into the lives of this couple and hoping for the best as I liked both of them from the very start. There are secondary characters who are likable, too, and one of the younger ones had several particularly moving scenes. This book was one of my favorite stories read this year. The Wahyas of Walker’s Run miniseries has always been original, and the fourth release is even more creative than the prior books. Pairing a she-wolf shifter with a man who can turn into a raven is definitely interesting, and Kristal Hollis made each moment in the story truly believable. From fascinating circumstances to well-developed characters, I always felt as though any happenings in CAPTIVATED BY THE SHE-WOLF could actually take place just as described. The world envisioned by the author is certainly unique, yet had me wanting to think the place could really exist somewhere, especially since many of the characters are so likable. After the death of her mate, Ronni Lyles is able to move to northeast Georgia and join the Walker’s Run pack. The female wolf-shifter now has a good job and can provide for her teenage son, so she is in no hurry to choose another mate. But when Ronni gets word that her brother-in-law wants her son to be his family plus make her his wife, she needs to quickly find a solution which will keep the demanding man out of her life. A new resident in Maico where Walker’s Run is located is Bodie Gryffon. He has come to the area because the protected sanctuary belonging to the wolves is a great location where his daughter can live without coming to harm. Both he and his child are raven-shifters, and they could become prey to many different beings. An event has Bodie and Ronni connecting, and they agree to an arrangement that will benefit them both. Yet when feelings become involved, the deal they made becomes more complicated. Though this is the fourth book in the miniseries, the story would still be enjoyable even if the other books had not been read. The previous romantic couple are featured from time to time, and it was great catching up on their lives plus seeing them interact with Bodie and Ronni. There are lots of individuals in the story, some nice and others not so pleasant, and the personalities of each one came alive with the author’s careful portrayals. Bodie is a wonderful hero, as he is thoughtful and has a such delightful sense of humor. I laughed so many times because of his sharp wit, and his ponderings while in bird form are often priceless. How Ronni responded to the new man in town showed they had a strong bond, but they had so much going against them ever having a permanent relationship. With Bodie being a raven shifter and Ronni being able to turn into a gorgeous wolf, they have different abilities and beliefs. Toss in an interfering relative along with those who follow the old ways, and this couple had many obstacles that could keep them apart. I never knew from one minute to the next what they would face, and I was in for numerous surprises and plenty of heartfelt incidents. CAPTIVATED BY THE SHE-WOLF is an enthralling paranormal romance where situations are always imaginative and often depicted with candid honesty. A highly unusual storyline makes DESERT WOLF constantly fascinating. The unique werewolves created by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom are present, and their distinctive traits once again make them atypical from those usually read. But it is the numerous secrets and mysteries to be solved that really make the story exceptional. I was repeatedly intrigued with the many unanticipated incidents which occur, and when answers were finally given, I was often totally stunned. From start to finish, the story kept me captivated because of all the unknowns plus interesting characters. After inheriting some land in Arizona from her father, Paxton Hall returns to the place where she lived as a child in the hope of quickly selling it and then returning to Maryland. However, there is one big problem keeping this objective from being simple. It seems there is an abandoned old western town which was once open to the public sitting in the middle of the property she now owns, and it belongs to Grant Wade. So Paxton has come to the hot desert in the hope of getting this stranger’s cooperation. Her preconceived notions about Grant are far from correct, as it turns out he was once a Texas Ranger and is about her age. When Paxton tries to negotiate with him, he makes it clear there will be no deals made. What she does not know is the man opposing her is a werewolf, and the ghost town of Desperado is where the Lycan Alpha has concealed his pack. A multitude of secrets are being kept by Grant, and deciding what to actually tell Paxton is a huge gamble. When a human and werewolf meet, there are often some problems to overcome. But the dilemmas Grant and Paxton must face are definitely much bigger than just worrying about different species. While he is aware of much more that is going on in Desperado than her, as she is in the dark at first, there are still some uncertainties for him to also discover. As truths become known, their choices about each new development could be disastrous if not chosen wisely. The confusion Grant and Paxton feel at times left me also speculating about the many possible explanations for what was taking place. Some subtle clues are scattered throughout the story, and I never knew if my deductions were right until every detail was exposed. The superb writing talent of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom certainly shines in DESERT WOLF, a very original paranormal novel. What could have been an uncomplicated transaction is anything but that for Paxton, and the emotional issues in her life after arriving back home are heartbreaking. I cannot imagine having so many things to decide at once, and the author does not make her path to being happy easy. She has always been spirited, and every bit of her spunk is going to be needed to survive the nonstop predicaments. Grant is a wonderful hero, as he is protective plus compassionate and devoted. As the Alpha, he has countless responsibilities, and I liked how swiftly he moved Paxton up the list. These two go through so many emotional moments, and I enjoyed seeing how they would react to the situation and each other. Since a ghost has always been a favorite paranormal being, I was very excited about the premise of the Corsair’s Cove Chocolate Shop series. Though most situations in the previous three books have been about normal contemporary events, many of the incidents in the fourth story have a supernatural aspect to them. Sharon Ashwood has conceived numerous innovative ideas for her contribution to the series, and each one made me want to consider the possibility of the circumstances being true. KISS IN THE DARK is imaginatively original all the way through. Some of the current happenings in Corsair’s Cove just might be caused by a curse, and though no one is ready to admit that the legendary hauntings are real, some rather strange occurrences do take place at times. Every fact seems very genuine, and if a place actually had such an unusual past, I would definitely like to visit the area for a chance to interact with all the current residents and perhaps encounter something paranormal. When Eloise Wilson came to Corsair’s Cove, Washington, she was thankful for the opportunity to have a place to live, because she has yet to find work after graduating from college. The rent-free room is located above the Red Gem’s Chocolates and Confections, the business a great-aunt willed to her and three other cousins. What Eloise did not expect was to find Captain Daniel Blackthorne, the town’s most famous ghost, was also living in the building. While she knows all too well that spirits live amongst us, since they became visible to her when younger, she wants the long-ago pirate gone and just hopes her protections can keep him away from her. An upcoming Hallowe’en charity event sponsored by the chocolate shop will let Eloise use her marketing skills to aid in making a big profit, and she needs to concentrate on the event, not the persistent ghost in her apartment. But Daniel has to break the curse put upon him by midnight on the 31st, or he will lose everything. If he can help Eloise to fall in love, then he can save himself. Yet getting close enough to assist her is not easy when she makes him keep his distance. The town of Corsair’s Cove is filled with a vast assortment of residents, and these individuals have their own personalities and behavior. None are more unique than Eloise, but she is hiding a painful past that she feels nobody would understand. I really felt for her, and was so hopeful that perhaps this move would be the one where she is finally accepted. With every interaction with Daniel, I could sense a change in them both. But with such huge challenges for them to face, I could not see a positive outcome for either of them. I simply adored Daniel from the moment he is met, and some of his responses are rather hilarious while others are dramatically serious. Eloise is someone who only wants to be loved for herself, and her fears and anguish came across as so realistic. I am so glad to have met the many appealing residents in the series, and am looking forward to my next visit. KISS IN THE DARK is intriguingly fascinating and very believable. In this story in The Fortunes of Texas: The Hotel Fortune miniseries, Lynne Marshall manages to take her romantic couple on a highly emotional journey filled with issues to overcome and very difficult choices to make. I became totally caught up in the lives of Mark and Megan, who may be rather wealthy but still often have to face the same personal problems that regular folks do. Ms. Marshall had me fretting over the situations that arose more than once, as the incidents frequently seemed to have no workable solutions and this fact kept me riveted to the storyline. When Mark Mendoza spent his last night as a bachelor celebrating with his brothers, he had hoped to receive plenty of support for his upcoming marriage. Instead, he sensed they did not approve of some choices that he had made. Unfortunately, it turned out they were right to be unsure, as his fiancée could not be trusted and the wedding never occurred. Mark ends up driving to the Hotel Fortune in Rambling Rose, Texas, where one of his brothers is currently working, and while there, he spends some time with Megan Fortune as he has no interest in returning to his hometown of Austin. When Mark spies his former bride-to-be at the same hotel where he is staying, Megan happens to be close by and a spontaneous kiss leads to them making even more impulsive life-altering decisions. With a little humor from time to time plus lots of agonizing challenges to triumph over, RUNAWAY GROOM had me feeling a number of emotions as I read this enthralling story. Mark has just lived through dreadful circumstances, and Megan is the only one who seems able to pull him out of his depressed state. When they find themselves in a relationship based on untruths, both are at first amused. Yet when their personal feelings actually become involved in their interactions, neither are prepared for the consequences. How this couple reacts to the many moments where they pretend to be attracted to each other is delightfully portrayed by the author, and I laughed with them at times yet also felt their misery when confusion sets in. There are also a few mysterious episodes from time to time, and I look forward to seeing how this plot plays out in future books along with more details about some of the engaging secondary characters. The Sinful Suitors stories are in my favorite series from Sabrina Jeffries, as the characters are very engaging while each premise has been original. Though this concluding book is only a novella, it still showcases the author’s talent in its many captivating scenes. From humorous remarks and responses to moments where hearts are on the line, THE RISK OF ROGUES kept me entertained and emotionally involved. When Captain Lord Hartley Corry went to visit the hunting lodge belonging to his brother, he was not thrilled upon discovering the activities now included a ball and many women were also in attendance. Since he is not married, he fears some of the females will possibly be looking at him as a perspective husband. At one time, he had wanted to marry Anne Barkley, but he ended up joining the English army instead when their plans fell through. Now Hart is a spy for the government, and he likes the path his life has taken. But when he realizes Anne is assisting with the festivities, he wants answers to his questions concerning their prior relationship and what went wrong. Hart has intrigued me since first being met in previous books of the series, as he has to keep much about himself a secret. While it has been assumed that his behavior is not the best, he could not defend himself or risk giving up information about some of his covet missions. I felt for him then, and I am glad he got the opportunity to perhaps have some happiness of his own. Anne is a delight as her lively personality is clearly evident time and again. Her love of wearing colorful hats sets her apart, and I enjoyed seeing how her newest creation would look. As this couple delves into the reasons why they are not currently together, I had the pleasure of watching them explore their greatest desires and experience the unexpected. THE RISK OF ROGUES is filled with enchanting situations and lots of emotion. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley, and all comments are my honest opinion Merged review: The Sinful Suitors stories are in my favorite series from Sabrina Jeffries, as the characters are very engaging while each premise has been original. An adventure starts immediately in the latest paranormal book from Michele Hauf, and the drama along with lots of unexpected humor only increases as the story unfolds. I could tell from the very beginning that the main characters were uniquely delightful, and I came to deeply care about the charming Dante D’Arcangelo plus likable Kyler Cole. No one does unique vampires better than Ms. Hauf, and this couple certainly captured my interest. Besides plenty of escapades involving a Fabergé egg and a dangerous spell, there are numerous scenes where romance is the focal point. I always get excited when this author releases a book, and A VENETIAN VAMPIRE does not disappoint. When Dante D’Arcangelo entered the Venetian auction house, his intentions were to steal a Fabergé Imperial egg. He knows if the valuable piece does not become his, the spell it possesses could doom countless vampires including him. While working out his plan as he looks over the area where the egg is being kept until it is sold, Dante sees a woman who also appears to be casing the place for a possible theft. He fully intends for there to be only one thief that successfully ends up with the precious item, and it will not be the fascinating stranger. Although she took a huge chance in snatching the Fabergé egg, the payoff is too good for Kyler Cole to pass up. When she seems to casually meet Dante a little later, the vampiress has no idea that he is on to her secret agenda. Seducing her in order to get closer is easy for the charismatic vampire, but obtaining the object is much trickier. Especially when a third individual is equally determined to own the coveted prize. I have always enjoyed the distinctive heroes created by Michele Hauf, and Dante’s personality definitely puts him on my all-time favorite list. He is a tempting man who is honest and compassionate. The way in which he interacts with Kyler had me smiling often, as he is a smooth talker but also shows concern when needed. She may be a vampire now, but many of her reactions are still that of a human woman. Quite a few of their conversations are filled with wit, and I could not help but chuckle at their candid responses. But much of the relationship between Dante and Kyler is often emotional, as doubts lead to confusion over how each are currently feeling. Neither is looking for anything lasting, and they do have one disagreement after another. Yet these disputes do not keep some very heated sexual encounters from taking place. The reason for Dante and Kyler ever meeting is intriguing, as the secretive details concocted by Michele Hauf about a Fabergé egg are very attention-grabbing. There are several paranormal aspects connected to the mystery surrounding the piece, and I was captivated by the clever imaginings of the author. Ms. Hauf is known for being particularly original when it comes to her characters and their personal stories, and A VENETIAN VAMPIRE is truly innovative. From vampire and werewolf traits to possible reasons for actual events in history, I wanted to believe each fact was true. A few characters from past books are mentioned, and one shadowy individual plays a big part in the story. I really hope King is featured again, and perhaps gets his own future book. A multitude of personal issues are entwined with a dangerous predicament that keeps escalating, and this causes the fourth book in the Rangers of Big Bend miniseries to be not only riveting but also filled with numerous events which pulled me into the lives of a fascinating couple. When Carter and Sophia first met, both had career ideas that made them happy. But when their carefully thought-out plans are put on hold for very different reasons, both will have to work through these unanticipated developments in their lives and make critical decisions about what comes next. I really enjoyed seeing how these two individuals would respond to the surprising events they had to face, and I thought Lara Lacombe managed to make their reactions very convincing at all times. Just as Sophia Burns is ready to start another chapter in her life, her choosing to spend one memorable night with Carter Donaghey before moving away the next day drastically altered her future plans. An incident in Carter’s life at the same time that Sophia discovered she was pregnant also impacted him in a big way, and she had to put off telling him about his impending fatherhood. When the conversation finally takes place, he is definitely stunned and torn about his next action. Yet when unexpected jeopardy comes into Sophia’s life plus that of his son, Carter knows what he must do to ensure their safety because of his unspoken feelings. Things definitely do not come easy in the relationship of Carter and Sophia, as one obstacle after another keeps them apart for months. When they do eventually get back in touch with one another by meeting face-to-face, truths come out. Then a serious incident takes place, and the couple has to tackle a wide range of problems in a short amount of time. I really felt for Carter and Sophia, as both had already recently gone through a lot, and now they have even more to consider when making choices. The peril in the book is frightening, because it could happen in real life to someone and without any warning. I could see events playing out just as the author described, resulting in situations with no guarantee because of much scheming. What occurs to Sophia is especially believable as her actions are spot-on, and what Carter has to go through is also told with much realism. I connected with the characters from the very start of RANGER’S FAMILY IN DANGER, as their ultimate fate became important to me. Secrets, mysteries, and an unexpected romance can be found in the eighth Alpha Force story, and the original premise of this miniseries is once again intriguing with clever developments and engaging characters. A wolf shifter being able to change anytime with the aid of a special elixir is a big part of the storyline, and Linda O. Johnston has created a very special hero for the latest book. He is dedicated to his career and has a wonderful personality. The heroine is a spunky individual who is always ready to face a challenge. Together, they work to make certain no harm comes to any wolves, either those in the wild or if one turns out to be a shifter. The many different situations that arose in PROTECTOR WOLF are fascinating and definitely entertaining. When wild wolves are sighted in the state of Washington near Tacoma, the military unit known as Alpha Force sends a member to look into the matter. The secretive group is made up of shapeshifters, and Lt. Ryan Blaiddinger will be trying to decide if any of the local wolves are like him and can change from human to animal form. Other groups are also taking notice of there now being more wolves in the area, and a woman from an organization that tracks wildlife has come to Fritts Corner in order to research their reappearance. Since the data Maya Everton has collected could benefit Ryan’s investigation, he makes certain they talk and share specific information. While many local residents like the idea of having wolves in the nearby wilderness, some citizens think they are a menace and should be killed. When Maya goes in search of the wolves on her own, she could have been in big trouble if not for one seemingly protective wolf. Then she and Ryan end up working together to uncover any pertinent facts about the endangered species, but her whole perspective on wolves is altered when she happens to see him shift. What is actually occurring in PROTECTOR WOLF is kept hidden for much of the book, so I was left guessing along with the main characters. As Maya and Ryan look for concrete evidence about the attacks on humans, I was eager for any new details they might find. Since he must keep his own shapeshifting identity concealed from others, I enjoyed seeing if he would use deception to get any proof. Being able to retain his human reasoning makes the story even more interesting, as Linda O. Johnston told several incidents from his viewpoint while in wolf form. The past team members of the Alpha Force have all been charming, and I thought Ryan was especially appealing in every way. His interaction with Maya is often amusing at first, as he had to not let her know about his abilities. She is a determined person when it came to safeguarding the wolves, and she sometimes acted without thinking everything through, thus leading to circumstances with unforeseen consequences. Her relationship with Ryan is conceivable, as their love for wildlife is something which they certainly have in common. I hope there are additional books in the always captivating Alpha Force miniseries, because PROTECTOR WOLF makes me want more about these competent heroes. In the fourth book of the SEAL Team Alpha series, the stakes are frequently high and outcomes are never guaranteed. From dangerous missions to troubling situations, I became caught up in the lives of two individuals who do much for others but often fail to do what is best for themselves. Thorn “Tank” Hunt and Dr. Alyssa St. James are dedicated to helping people and even animals in need, and this repeatedly puts them in circumstances where they can be hurt in various ways. Sometimes the threat is physical, while other events only cause emotional suffering. But regardless of what is occurring, the superb writing of Zoe Dawson let me experience what Tank and Alyssa were feeling to the fullest, always getting a sense of realism in any happening. TANK is a military-themed romance at its very best. Since Thorn “Tank” Hunt is a Navy SEAL and has a dog that works alongside him, he knows how important these loyal animals can be to a mission. So assisting local veterinarian Dr. Alyssa St. James who specializes in military working dogs was an easy decision. What is difficult for him is the effect the Army reservist has on him when they are together. Alyssa is also very aware of Tank as a man, but knows nothing can ever come of the attraction because of their military careers. When an incident during a mission results in Tank losing Echo as his canine partner, he is upset but knows he has to move forward for his team. While training with his new dog, the SEAL comes in contact with Alyssa once again. The way each feels for the other is even more overwhelming this time, making Tank and the veterinarian want to explore what is between them. Yet both realize there are probably too many obstacles that will keep their relationship from lasting. A vast array of sentiments was felt by me while reading TANK. The camaraderie of Tank and the SEALs on his team always made me smile when they good-humoredly bicker back and forth, and some of their truly priceless comments caused a big laugh. Then there are the occasions where these alpha men are surprisingly sentimental, and I felt a soft spot for that particular person. When Tank and Alyssa converse, their discussions ranged from intimately sensual to life-changing. What these two go through during the story really touched me at times, as heartbreaking situations arise along with honest revelations. Zoe Dawson knows how to draw the reader into every compelling moment, keeping your attention on every page. TANK is equally thrilling with dangerous adventures and heartfelt emotions. Whether a scene was comprised of risky peril or a candid conversation, it came across are extremely true-to-life and had me believing. Since I am a dog lover, the times when a dependable canine was involved was so enjoyable, especially since the author made these instances seem very accurate. There is a storyline in the book which carries over to the next release, and I am exceedingly eager to learn what happens. Though there was never a relationship between the distinctly different couple, plenty of fantasies have been envisioned since they last saw each other. In the third book of the SEAL Team Alpha series, most of the danger and intrigue takes place in the United States. But that does not mean there is a lack of suspenseful action or emotional issues to resolve. Zoe Dawson once again expertly interweaves threatening developments with a heartfelt romance, and COWBOY is often moving yet also frequently gripping because of unanticipated peril. After the circumstances of how his father died led to his family losing their ranch, Wes “Cowboy” McGraw left Reddick and dedicated his life to becoming a capable SEAL. Following another successful mission, he is going back home to see his relatives during his leave and will even attend his high school reunion. Though numerous bad memories keep resurfacing, there is one good thing Cowboy fondly remembers about his Texas town, and he sure hopes to run into Kia Silverbrook while there. Back in high school, many saw Kia as someone rather odd, and she still loves her goth look. A good hacker for years, she now even makes money doing legitimate work for clients. Kia and Cowboy make contact shortly after he arrives, and both keep picturing some of their long-time fantasies coming true. But when it is apparent someone is out to harm her, she wonders what could be the cause of the threats against her. Having her very own SEAL around just might come in handy in more ways than one. Military themed stories are a favorite of mine, and Zoe Dawson has certainly created riveting stories for her SEAL Team Alpha series. Regardless of where problems are taking place, the situations that the team tackles are realistic incidents which could actually occur. Sometimes the predicament is personal and other times the dilemma could affect countless people, but these courageous soldiers give it their all every time. Kia finds herself mixed up in a couple of problems, and trying to solve them brings all kinds of risks into her life. She has always kept her thoughts hidden inside and became an independent woman because of her childhood. But what is currently happening to her is definitely much easier when a SEAL comes into her life. COWBOY drew me in because of the danger, while the emotional scenes had me connecting with the characters. Though Kia and Cowboy noticed the other in high school, neither tried to get closer in any way. Surprisingly, this attraction has lasted over the years that they were separated, and being together now only increases their awareness. While they do not want to become emotionally involved with someone, the pull between them overrides any of their reasons and results in lots of steamy sex. As beliefs are confronted, they must face several challenges which could significantly test their relationship. All the teammates are featured at some point in the story, and I especially enjoyed getting an extra glimpse of Tank whose story is next. There is also a variety of animals in the book, and I smiled quite a few times because of their animated antics. I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion Merged review: Since the first time I met the SEAL known as “Cowboy”, his thoughts concerning a woman back in his hometown captured my attention. In the Cold Case Detectives miniseries, there have been plenty of baffling situations that need to be solved. The latest story deals with a missing person and her friend’s determination to make certain facts are found which will expose what actually occurred. With the help of a private investigator, the two go in search of information, and neither are willing to stop until everything is settled to their satisfaction. I have always thought Jennifer Morey makes her books in this miniseries very compelling with realistic details and characters, and COLD CASE MANHUNT is another gripping addition. After her good friend disappeared, Jaslene Chabot keeps prodding the local police to uncover what happened to the woman. Cal Chelsey is the detective who was assigned the case, but now he is working for Dark Alley Investigations. Since he can set his own rules with the company, he lets Jaslene occasionally assist him when looking for clues. What they find is some very shocking answers plus even more questions. I really admired the tenacity which drove Jaslene to keep up the mission to find her friend, as it shows her loyalty. Cal is a man who likes helping those who have lost hope, and he also will not stop until every possibility has been looked into. While some issues get in the way of their personal relationship, they are in agreement when it comes to how they investigate. There are quite a few incidents that cause Cal and Jaslene some big problems, and a couple of them were suspenseful because unknown factors determine the outcome. What really did happen is carefully hidden, yet subtle hints are given throughout the story, and they had caused me to constantly change my mind. The feelings that Jaslene and Cal have for one another come across as genuine, and any tension between them also seems valid. Both have a reason for being wary of getting involved with someone, and it did not take long for me to become immersed in their complicated lives. As I waited to see what their final decisions would be, I was taken on an adventure of suspenseful danger and conflicting emotions. A favorite theme in suspenseful romances is for the heroine to be stranded with the hero in precarious circumstances, and Zoe Dawson brings this scenario to life with ever-increasing peril and a spirited couple. Danger can crop up at any moment in RUCKUS, and I never knew what the outcome would be or if someone would be harmed. Situations could escalate in a second, going from calm and nonviolent to terrifyingly perilous in an instant. My heart raced at times when physical threats loomed, while other incidents made me warm because of all the sexual heat generated by the main couple. Zoe Dawson captured my full attention all the way through the book, as action is swift and desire is expressed with honest feelings. The latest assignment photojournalist Dana Sorenson has undertaken is very personal to her, and she plans to tell the plight of migrants traveling through the country of Columbia. Though the task will most definitely be risky, she will not let anything keep her from reporting on the trials of these determined people. All seems to be going well for Dana until she is kidnapped by a ruthless criminal in the area. When Lt. Bowie “Ruckus” Cooper is given his latest duty as a SEAL, he expects the mission to retrieve a drug runner living in a South American jungle to go as planned. Unfortunately, there is an unforeseen dilemma when an American reporter is discovered on the premises, and the SEALs must make certain she and those with her are rescued. But in the haste to escape the compound, Ruckus and Dana end up on their own. With the original mission still needing to be completed, working together to reach their own goals will not be without complications for these two strong-willed individuals. SEAL Team Alpha is a series that has lots of danger associated with a soldier being in a unit where risks are the norm when on an assignment. Ruckus is proud to serve his country, and doing his duty has always been a top priority to him. But upon meeting Dana, his goals are not always clear. She keeps him confused, yet he is also happy in a way that is not usual for him. Becoming entangled with a cranky SEAL is not what Dana planned to do, but occasionally fate has other ideas. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two interact, as their opinions gradually change from irritated to admiration. They both do plenty of soul-searching as their time together makes them see things differently, and I worried over what they would ultimately decide. Passion sometimes runs high, and Ruckus and Dana know how to make every minute count when control is lost. They both have some great amusing comebacks, too. RUCKUS is highly entertaining on every page. As the story progressed, I got small glimpses into the lives of other SEAL team members. When facing a threat, these men know what to do and work exceedingly well together. During downtime, their banter is humorous and made me smile. Zoe Dawson had me believing all the facts about their missions, as actions and words came across as very authentic. I also felt as though I was right there in the jungle, as the author’s descriptive words are colorfully vivid. I am glad there are more books in the series, and I really hope each of the courageous men get to tell their own story. The existence of witches seems very convincing in this story centered around Halloween. Though humans celebrate the holiday one way, those with supernatural abilities have their own approach to having a good time. Getting a peek into how those in a coven behave was interesting, and ALL’S FAIR: LOVE AND WARLOCKS was believable because of the imaginative circumstances conceived by Tami Lund. Packed with heartfelt emotions that are often conflicted, the main characters have to look deep within themselves for answers. When Adanna Grandier was born, a mark on her meant that she was to one day rule over her coven in Savannah. After the death of the Supreme Witch who had prepared her to take over, it becomes her turn to supervise those with magical powers living in the area. The night of the Halloween meeting, a warlock from Salem arrives who has been instructed to make certain her group will be added to those under northern leadership. Although Anton Burke has a specific assignment of proving Adanna is not capable of carrying out her responsibilities, his goal becomes less important after meeting her. While reading this entertaining story, I got insight into how Adanna and Anton felt because their inner thoughts were revealed on occasion. She had never wanted to lead her coven, but the duty fell to her and now she must make the best of the situation. The past haunts Anton, and he never lets emotions control him. Wanting to see how their interactions with each other would make a difference in their lives kept me eagerly reading to discover the answer. THE HAUNTING OF HOTEL LEBELLE is extremely original and constantly entertains with delightful characters. Supernatural occurrences are conveyed in a realistic way, and convincing reasons are given for what is going on. Native American traditions and beliefs are portrayed is such a manner that made me want to believe every happening, as the author carefully depicts how each incident took place. Any characters in the story are shown with unique personalities, and I came to really care for the main couple. Although Lucius Stewart had wanted to marry the daughter of a Crow medicine woman, he was denied as his intentions were not believed and she even cursed him. After more than a hundred years goes by, he still has not died nor aged but is not part of the living world either. When Tallulah Thompson offers to assist the new owner of Hotel LaBelle which Lucius opened in 1905, she plans to offer suggestions on how it could be a business that prospers. While the place needs much work, she thinks it could bring in people wanting to stay somewhere that features aspects of the Old West. But Tallulah never expected to see and hear Lucius when he roams the property. Lots of description let me visualize the scenes, and showing the frequently emotional responses of the individual involved had me realizing just how much each person was being affected. I could tell Sharon Buchbinder did much research before writing the book, as details are colorful and come across as accurate. There are witty remarks sprinkled throughout, and many of them had me chuckling. Tallulah and Lucius are lively characters, and I enjoyed watching them work through some difficult issues. Her dog, Franny, is adorable, and I had to grin at some of her antics. I am always on the lookout for stories that have some ghostly aspects, and finding The Hotel LaBelle series has certainly made me happy. It was very easy to become caught up in the numerous situations described in the second book of the Kentucky Derby Medics duo, as any events connected to horseracing were vividly depicted and let me feel as though I was right there. As for the romantic aspects in the story, I was able to experience exactly what the main couple was always feeling, whether it was overwhelming joy, deepest regret, or something totally unexpected. Susan Carlisle always seems to come up with creative scenarios for her characters to live through, and AN IRISH VET IN KENTUCKY was filled with nonstop imaginative developments. In the hope that a horse racing at Churchill Downs has a good chance of winning, the owner has sent along its usual veterinarian from Ireland to oversee the welfare of the animal. Upon arriving at the stable where the horse will be boarded for a couple of weeks, Conor O’Brian meets Christina Mobbs who is also a vet plus closely works with injured racehorses. Although she was not expecting him to also remain on her property, they manage to come up with way for him to stay close and carry out his responsibilities. Both individuals had troubling events take place with past partners, making them very apprehensive of getting involved with anyone again. Yet their repeated interaction, regardless of the reason, has Conor and Christina discovering there is more to their relationship than an admiration for horses. Although they intend to not get involved with someone any time soon, especially during the days leading up to the Kentucky Derby, it seems the hearts of Conor and Christina are not in agreement. From the moment these two come in contact, they find out that each of them loves taking care of horses, and both always give it their all when any emergency needs their attention. But as days go by and they are continuously around one another, facts about their pasts gradually come to light. How they react to this personal information told me a lot about these two people, and I was really interested to see how they would respond to any future undeclared revelations. Ms. Carlisle gave Conor and Christina much to think about when it came to making decisions, and I was delighted with how the author interwove all the details pertaining to the lives of this interesting couple. ...more |
