"be still. breathe. the earth will continue to spin even if you are not pushing it."
Ow, this feels like a warm hug. ♡ A lot of poems spoke to me; it felt like these poems were what I needed to hear.
The poem has two sections: "The Anchor," which talks a lot about insecurity, anxiety, fear, self-doubts, and such. The second one is "The Sail," which talks about positivity, self-love, and growth.
I like how it was formatted. It's like the first part was her being "anchored", a person who is having a hard time growing and learning how to love herself. And when she finally set "sail", she spread her wings and flew. She grew and loved herself, and of course, she healed and forgave.

Everything that has been said here is relatable, and I resonated with it deeply. Adichie plotted clear and precise points and explained them extremely well. Highly recommended!...more

It's repetitive, cliche, and generic love yourself, healing, moving on, etc. It's like a series of tumblr posts compiled into a single book. (No offense to Tumblr; I once was on Tumblr too.) But I think if you put it in a book, there should be more to give than these.
I appreciate the message; it lovely. I don't think it is for me, though. I think people would fall in love with these if they were in dire need of encouragement words and affirmations. I still love Thought Catalogs! ...more

Most are beautiful and breath-taking, some are 'meh' for me. Still, i live for poems that talks about empowerment, self-growth, and femininity, stars, and all of those galaxy thing. But I'm so sick of reading rewritten fairytale heroines, it's not my thing.

And The Ocean Was Our Sky is a great retelling of "Here is the truth behind the myth: all men are Toby Wick. For who needs devils when you have men?"
And The Ocean Was Our Sky is a great retelling of Moby Dick, written in a Whale's POV. It talks about peace, war, the devil himself, and how we make it. And the writing style together with the illustration was incredible. I rate it 5 stars. ✿
