I walked into it a little skepitcal about whether I could get into it, becuase I typically read urban fantasy with a real anchor in the real world. The opening scene of FAERY REBELS takes place in "The Oak", where a colony of Faeries live.
But by the time I got 20 pages in, I was hooked. R.J. Anderson is one talented story teller, and KNIFE is one loveable heroine.

This is one of the most though-provoking novels I've ever read. HATE LIST features Valerie, who for all intents an purposes is your average every day girl. Except one thing: Last May, her boyfriend opened fire on a busy cafeteria at school, killing six and wounding countless others. And it wasn't just a random shooting: he targeted people on the HATE LIST, a list Valerie herself created. But she never dreamed he'd actually hurt those she hated.
How could she not have seen it? Why did she create that list? Will her life ever go on, or will she always be that girl who caused the deaths? These questions plague Valerie as she struggles to put things back together. Her Mom is convinced she's going to kill herself, her dad blames her for everything, and her brother doesn't deserve the strife she's caused.
HATE LIST is amazing. Valerie is believable and sympathetic, and I just wanted to reach out and hug her. Despite the 408 pages, it feels fast paced and tense througout the entire narrative. Even Nick, the shooter who is dead before the book even begins, feels multi-faceted.
This one is a definite winner. But be prepared to read it with a box of tissues. Tears streamed down my face the whole time I read the last chapter!

From the first page, I was swept away in a hilarious, endearing story about accepting yourself--flaws and all. In MY BIG NOSE, Jory wants nothing more than to save enough money over her summer vacation to finance a nose job and finally be as beautiful as she wants to be, snare Mr. Right, and be good enough for her perfection-seeking-mother.
So Jory gets a job. A job involving delivering cakes and flowers--even though she has no idea how to drive a stick and she wrecked the only car she's ever owned. But it was totally an accident!
Readers will love Jory's snarky, sarcastic humor, and they'll devour the pages just like I did. Five stars!...more

The Body Finder is intense from start to finish. Violet Ambrose is just your every day girl-- except for her unique ability to find dead bodies and/or recognize the imprint left behind on their killer. It used to be kittens or field mice, but when a serial killer begins to stalk her small town, she knows she's the only one who can find him.
Violet is a likeable character, and her evolving relationship with Jay is captivating and romantic. When the body count begins to rise, the suspense does too, and you'll find yourself ripping through the pages as Violet tries to catch a killer.
Derting's voice is poetic and lyrical, without being too purple prosey, and the pace is tight.

It pulled me in on the first page, and left me wound up inside long after I finished it. I think I read the last 1/3 of it in a state of near-tears!
Twenty Boy Summer is about a family torn apart by the grief of losing Matt in a car wreck-- a wreck that included his sister Frankie and his secret girlfriend (best friend to Frankie)Anna.
Because no one knew that Anna and Matt were dating--and in love-- she's forced to grieve in secret for her loss. I think one of my favorite things was how realistic the characters were-- each one dealt with their grief in a different manner.
While a lesser author would have made it hard to feel the same loss, Ockler succeeded. She would allow us glimpses into the past--letting us see Matt as he was-- which kept the pain raw and real. It would have been easy to be annoyed by Anna and think she was whining-- to want her ot "just get over it" but instead I felt the same grief she did and was rooting for her throughout this book.
In spite of the heavier subject manner, it also manages to be fast paced, with a few lighter moments as well.
Amazing debut, Sarah! Can't wait to read more from you in the future. ...more

PROPHECY follows Amalia and her twin, Alice. Shortly after their father's mysterious death, Lia discovers that a strange mark is appearing on her wrist, darkening with each passing day. And as she digs into the reasons behind such an odd occurance, she begins to battle with her sister. It seems these two play a role in a prophecy which has lasted centuries. A prophecy that must end with Lia and her sister.
But will Lia be able to keep an army of lost souls from entering earth and thus beginning the end of days, or will her twin sister and rival win out?
PROPHECY OF THE SISTERS is a dark, gripping, haunting tale. You'll love Amalia's vulnerabilities, you'll yearn to know what the keys are--and where they are hidden--and you'll flip the pages ever faster as you near the end.
All I can say is-- when does book 2 come out? ...more
