I had this on my shelf for years, my intended read for Maryland for my ongoing attempt to read a book set in every state. When my Misfit Readers group picked it, I finally picked it up.

This is a powerful book and one that covers some very important and difficult themes.My reservations mainly stem from the length of the book as it's very plot driven so I didn't feel emotionally connected to the characters,plus the beginning and the ending felt very rushed .

I ended up really liking this book (which was a book-club pick). I was a bit disappointed about how the first part featured in the rest of the story, and the pace wasn't always very good, but a great read overall.
