The Time in Between

Rate this book
After a painful loss, Cady Moreland is coming to Magdalene to start the next chapter of her life. A chapter that began eighteen years ago but had a heartbreaking ending. The time in between was full of family and friendship, but Cady could never get the man she fell in love with all those years ago out of her heart.

Coert Yeager has learned to live without the girl who entered his life right when she shouldn’t and exited delivering a crippling blow he never would have suspected. The time in between was full of failing to find what he was missing…and life-altering betrayal.

But when that girl shows up in Magdalene and buys the town’s beloved lighthouse, even if Coert wants to avoid her, he can’t. A fire in town sparks a different kind of flame that won’t be ignored.

As Cady and Coert question the actions of the two young adults they once were thrown into earth-shattering circumstances, can they learn from what came in between and find each other again?

Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

This is one of the best Kristen Ashley books I’ve read in a while. It had that same enchanting quality as some of her older reads that I love so much. The Time in Between is a stunning second chance romance that pulled right on my heartstrings.
Maybe this could be a new chapter.

Cady Moreland makes the decision to move to Magdaline. She does that because she needs a fresh start. She also does that, because the love of her life is there. Coert Yeager is the sheriff of Magdaline. He and Cady haven’t seen each other in eighteen long years. Eighteen years ago, a lot happened between these two. They were so in love, planning a future, and it all got torn from them. The circumstances were not pretty, but even after all this time, it’s still there. What was between them.

I would love to say that Cady and Coert’s reunion was full of love and understanding, but it just was not that way. Coert is sheriff, single dad, and all around good guy, but he’s not happy having Cady in his space again. There are scenes between them that are heartbreaking. But eventually, with a little help, they start to figure it out.

One of my favorite things about this book was Cady and her ‘family’. I love that this showcased that sometimes, family is not who we are related to, but the family we make. Cady grew up with a family who didn’t appreciate her or care about her, but she found a family and it melted my heart to see that and all those people who cared about her.

Coert and Cady’s journey is long and not always easy, but it’s filled with so much beauty. It really was a gorgeous second chance at a first love for these two. This couple went through so much over the years, but the fact that they were able to find their way back to each other made everything worth it.
“This is life. And in all that’s happened in mine, the one thing I’ve learned is, as ugly as it gets, as bad as you mess up, if you keep going, it’ll get good again.”

Kristen Ashely is one of those authors that truly has a magic touch. She’s the only author that I can read over and over again and never grow tired of (to the magnitude of reading over 50 of her books, and re-reading so many of them so many times I can’t even count). The Time in Between will be one of those books I will re-read. It’s a story that touched my heart and one that will stay with me. There is nothing I didn’t love about this one, and I give it a full 5 stars.

I hadn’t read a KA book in ages and, I have to say, nostalgia hit me hard when I started reading this book. I missed her writing, missed her “laters”, “mouth touchings”, “grinning at the boots”, her ridiculously long nonsensical sentences.

Don’t believe me? Read this:
“I had not allowed myself to think anything about Janie’s mother because I had not allowed myself to think I had the right to think anything about Janie’s mom.”

Or this:
“When I told you before you shouldn’t, I didn’t mean it the way I mean how I’m telling you now you just won’t.”

Anyhow, the story in the first half did not disappoint. I loved the setting, loved the story, loved the writing. And it would have been a 4-star read for me if it had ended at 50%.

Okay, I confess. I didn’t love the main characters but I didn’t hate them either. They were okay, I guess, at least okay enough to give the book a high rating.

Oh, who am I kidding? The heroine irritated me to no end. Can that woman for once use her voice and say anything, anything at all with the normal tone and volume of the speaking voice? She whispered more that 110 times, for god's sake!

(Yes, I counted.)

Not to mention she made me feel embarrassed for all women on this earth. She was chasing the hero who was blatantly ignoring her (and not in a cute or hot way). Grow some backbone, woman! I hate weak and desperate heroines, especially the “funny”, whispering ones who are prone to making stupid conclusions.

The second half of the book was… Ever heard of the expression ‘dying a slow death’?

Epilogue lovers are going to LOVE the second half because, guess what? After reading the story you get a sleep-inducing BONUS:
A GIGANTIC, 300 PAGES LONG EPILOGUE!!!

Well, not really, but you catch my drift.

The second half felt like an epilogue delivered in slow motion. An epilogue full of room and furniture descriptions, repetitions, and dissections and analyses of every goddamn sentence that came out of the hero's or heroine's mouth.

The only positive thing that I can say about the second half is that you can skip the whole paragraphs and pages and you’re still in the game.

So there's that.

The hero and the heroine get back together at around 45% and that is where the book should have ended. But I get it, it works for some people. Not for me though.

And just to be clear, I ADORE Kristen Ashley. She’s one of the best.

Together we flew and together we drifted down to earth, to his bed, his room, this world, this life. Ending still with Coert and me. Yes, it was glorious.

Readers get ready to be swept away by another epic romance delivered in Kristen Ashley’s signature style. This woman knows how to create some of the best alpha males in the adult contemporary genre. The third installment of the ”Magdalene” series is a second chance romance between two amazing characters who have been separated for nearly two decades over unfortunate circumstances and complete miscommunication. I think KA fans are really going to enjoy this one. Her descriptive narrative enhances the reader’s enjoyment—you actually feel as if you’re living in the small town of Magdalene.

Cady and Coert’s love affair started back in Denver almost twenty years ago. Their attraction was instant and it didn’t take long before they were falling deeply in love with each other. Cady was on the outs with her parents and older brother because they didn’t approve of her life choices or the people she chose to call her friends. Cady has a full-time job at a local supermarket and she takes on as many hours as she can so that she can afford to put food on the table and pay the rent on her tiny studio apartment. At a party one of her best friends is throwing, she meets Coert and she’s instantly drawn to him even though she knows she probably should steer clear of him due to his association with the criminal element in town. But their chemistry is too strong to deny and even though the timing is definitely wrong for the couple, they try to hold on to faith that their love will be able to survive.

Coert has been keeping a huge secret from Cady and once she finally learns the truth, it sets a chain of events which leaves the couple devastated and sends them both down very different paths in life. For almost twenty years they lead separate lives and although it may seem that they have moved on, their hearts remained the same.

 photo TTIB_TeasersRDLNow_zpsl5jaxf96.jpg

After so many years have gone by, Cady ends up being the newest citizen of Magdalene, when she buys the town’s lighthouse and the land that surrounds it. While she has a major project on her hands with the renovations on the Light House, the real reason she is in Magdalene is to see if there’s still a chance to rekindle what was lost with Coert. Coert is antagonistic and extremely hostile towards Cady during their initial interactions. She begins to question whether she made the right decision in moving to Magdalene.

As the story progresses, truths about the past are revealed and misconceptions are laid to rest. The couple attempt to give their relationship another try but will they be able to rekindle the spark from long ago or has time diminished what they once had?

Gosh when i first started this book i felt like it was vintage KA. The first 50% I just devoured. Then for some reason it started to fall off a bit. I guess I was waiting for this crazy conflict that never happened. I started to skim slightly until about 90% where she ties it all together. There are so many mixed reviews that I would encourage you to read it for yourself.

Le sigh. Maybe I'm just in the wrong mood or my patience just isn't what it used to be. I loved and I mean LOVED the first half. It was emotional and angsty and so good. But then the second half was beginning to feel like running into a brick wall after you were just picking up steam for your run. I was just bored. I was struggling with keeping engaged and connected to the story, no matter how much I adored Cady and Coert.

Perhaps I'll give it a go again when I'm in a more forgiving mood. As for now, I'd rate the first half a solid 5 stars, and the second half felt like a lackluster 2.5. Le sigh. I'm going to go hide now

100% Doormat heroine.
100% A**hole hero.

*Sooo.... Now i remember why i stopped reading this author's books and In true Kristen Ashley's fashion, she still writes her a**holes heroes and doormats heroines with repeatedly words that got old real fast.

After reading half of the book I started skimming because I became bored with the same sh*t.

*They met when she was 23 and he was 27, she had a friend who sold drugs along with her boyfriend , and that boyfriend had a crush on the heroine.

*Hero was an undercover cop and he used her to capture the drug dealers btw it was her best friend the boyfriend and some other guy. ( the best friend killed her boyfriend) she was hurt that he had lie to her and used her so she run away and then met her husband who was more of a father to her. So instead of adopting her he married her to give her his name, she never had sex with him it was more of a fatherly love she had for him.

*When she moved to the town to amend things with her brother and the hero by her dead husband's wishes, the hero acted like she murdered his dog, treated her like crap while she took everything he said to her, she blames herself for everything that happened including him lying to her that he was actually a cop and he was only doing his job so it's her fault that he lied to her. (See doormat)

*He dated and has been engaged and has a daughter from one of his relationship ( ex poked holes in his condoms to trap him) (she's a 5 year old girl.)

*She dated few men that didn't compare to him.
“Since him, I’d only ever fantasized about him, mostly using memories, like that one.
Since him, I’d never climaxed again with a man, though there were very few men I’d allowed myself to share that intimacy with.
And before him, I never even got close.
So really, it had only ever been him.”

*Hero keeps acting like an a**.
*He orders her around like she's a dog.
*He's acting like she did him wrong and lied to him.
*She keeps taking sh*t from hero.

*They have been separated for 18 years and she still pines after him.

*He doesn't grovel at all, blames her for their separation because she didn't wait for him. He thinks she married her husband/father for money calling him couple of times "sugar daddy".

*He doesn't let her explain, she's chasing him left and right, calling him, texting him, leaving messages so she can explain herself why she ran away when he used her.
He doesn't answer any of those calls and texts only after she runs away again and he's looking for her and her husband's son is the one who goes after the hero to explain everything to him.

*He made things right with his daughter's mother but couldn't and didn't want to make things right with the heroine.

*After the husband/father's son explained that she didn't married his father for his money then he went to her which she proceeded to jump his bones and him giving her some nice words and that was his groveling.

* And excuse me while I go laugh my little heart out when he said "I never committed to anyone because I loved you and still love you" uhh he was engaged, he dated plenty, and he lived with his ex fiancé and his daughter's mother if that isn't committed relationships then I don't know what it is then!!

Won't take too long with this review. Don't want to give anything away ... oh, wait, there is nothing to give away. Talk about being bored out of my fucking tree. I found it clichéd, repetitive, boring ... did I already say boring. First half might have been interesting enough. Found Cady a bit of a doormat. Coert didn't really appeal to me at all. Very disappointed, overall.

Will I give up on KA? Not sure. I am sure some of you who read it will love catching up with some of the Denver crew. I never read the RC series so, honestly, I did not care one way or the other.

Loads of folks loved it. Give it a shot. You might too.

“Promise, Cady. Stick with me, no matter what.”

Kristen Ashley is BACK! This book is just like her old ones, full of magic and romance that digs its way into your heart!

The Time in Between is the story of Cady and Coert, two people who were in love eighteen years before, but lies and bad circumstances came between them and broke them apart. Now, years later, Cady’s husband has died, and he stipulated when he died that Cady had to move to Maine in order to reconnect with two men in her life, her brother, and Coert. Once there she buys a lighthouse and renovates it, biding her time to approach Coert, who is the local sheriff. Except Coert is angry and wants nothing to do with her.

“With him right there, nothing else mattered, nothing else even existed. This was simply where I was supposed to be. No matter what.”

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous going into this one, mostly because some of the newer releases by Kristen Ashley just really weren’t my thing. BUT this is the Magdalene series, and I adored the first two books in this series, so I went in with an open mind. And what I got was a beautiful second chance romance story that by the end, brought that little bit of sappy mist to my eyes.

Second chance romance is sort of my Achilles heel of subgenres, I just love the idea of two people who lost their way get another chance to make things right between them. Cady and Coert have a lot of issues that bled over from their past, and while it was a rocky start when the two of them reunited, it got smoother as time went by. In fact, once they made up their minds, they did the adult thing and didn’t bring the past into their current relationship to haunt them. They moved on, and moved to something special.

My one small criticism and why I cannot give this a full 5 stars, is this book is SO LONG. Like I was reading it for four days! It took me four days to read the first Game of Thrones novel and that thing is enormous!!! I wish it had been a tad bit shorter because sometimes when reading it, it felt like I was tackling a mountain! But don’t let the length avert you from this gem, by the end I had happy tears in my eyes and was declaring my love for this magnificent book.

This story will stay with you a long time, and you will fall in love with Cady and Coert!

“Love you.”
“Love you most.”

-I wouldn’t be here … if I wasn’t all in, if I didn’t still love you. You said you still loved me too. So we have that. We hold on to it. And we ride these rapids until I can get us to safety. You with me?
-I’m with you.

There’s a trope in romance that seems to get me every time : Second Chance At Love.
There is something about rekindled lovers that pushes all my buttons, will it be a long time awaited reunion, or an unexpected and rocky confrontation? Can there be better love the second time? Whatever the circumstances, I’m only sure of one thing, its always about that one true love and the concept that soul mates are finally reunited for that big satisfying HEA and that’s why I love them so much. After all, romance is hope, isn’t it?

And if there is one thing I love Kristen Ashley for, more than anything else, it’s her craft for redeemable heroes and heroines and stories centered on mature characters. I also love that her characters, just like in real life, are not perfect. Real life is messy and this fact is more than accounted for in her stories.

She creates dream heroes, alpha males with a temper and many flaws, and I for one find them just as appealing—if not more— than the usual prince charming. It gives an edge or reality to the romance.

Same goes for her heroines, sure, some are tethering the lines of being perfect, but scratching the surface a little, Kristen Ashley gives her heroines insecurities real women, readers, can identify to.
I also like the idea that their hearts and minds had space and time to grow and adjust to real life messiness and maybe learn to overcome issues from the past.

In “The Time in Between”, Kristen Ashley gives us glimpses of a yearning love that was lost too soon, portraying a young and inexperienced Cady falling deep for Coert and a slow burn yet very angsty reunion 18 years later.

Almost two decades later and suffering a painful loss, Cady Moreland had time to learn from her mistakes and is determined to get what she deserves and mend lost relationships. And it’s in Magdalene, Maine, that she decides to settle down.

It’s just unfortunate that Sheriff Coert Yeager doesn’t feel the same regarding Magdalene newcomer. This upsetting turn of event is going to cause tension, hostility and reminders of past errors—his and hers— all of which Coert doesn’t need complications from.

In this rocky, unsteady context, I can only say my heart broke to witness Cady being confronted by Coert. The man was so rude and hostile, it made me admire Cady for her resilience and standing her grounds against him. It also gave me hope that some major groveling would take place later on!

I don’t want to give any spoiler about the story, I’ll just say that the obstacles to overcome run deep and both Coert and Cady will have to work past the reasons that made their first time fails, and concentrate on the future.

With Coert being a dad now (helllooo single dad crush!) I need to point out how much I appreciated the author’s choice to go past the usual cliché of deprecating the ex and instead put the focus on family values. Coert may be separated from his daughter’s mother, there was no drama drawn from that fact.

Another thing I love in KA books is her talent for writing families! The dynamic, the sweet and funny moments. Sigh. I would go as far as say it played a major part in my rating, maybe even equal to the romance in that book.
I missed your smell. I missed those green eyes. I missed holding hands with you. And I missed just having coffee with you … We had a version of paradise, but this here? This is the real thing.

The romance aspect in this story was simply golden. Amplified by the fact that one true love reconnects, the relationship between Cady and Coert was just adorable as it was passionate. After overcoming their issues, they just both dived into it, no holds barred, not wanting to lose any more time. The result is an intense and burning connection, a feeling of urgency to make up for lost time, Kristen Ashley once again upholds her status as a romance and erotica author gratifying us with sensual and steamy sex scenes . All in all, it felt beautiful!
This wasn’t playing around. This wasn’t going slow. This was us, taking all we could get of everything we had as fast as we could.

Cady was an amazing heroine, with a fragile side to her and a need to nurture, but also strong and tenacious. Coert was the epitome of KA’s alpha males. Strong, possessive and stubborn man he also had a sweeter side to him, protective and caring. They made a great pairing and completed each other perfectly, definitely deserving their HEA!

The Time in Between embodies everything I love in Kristen Ashley books. It went straight to my favorites shelf. If you like the heartbreak of a second chance at love, slow burn romance that runs emotionally high but still manages to give light and sweet heart warming moments, if you read romance for that satisfying HEA then don’t hesitate and visit The Time in Between.
It can be read as a standalone as every book of this series. I’ve no doubts you’ll want to read more about the other couples of Magdalene!

Rock Chick series fans will appreciate the cameos from several few characters, with a glimpse of young Indy, Ally, Lee and Hank… I loved how she tied both series together, SWEET!!!

❤5 INTENSE Stars ❤

This is by far one of my favorite series from Kristen Ashley. It's really funny but this happens almost with all her books but what should I say her books are so unique that you can't stop yourself from falling in love.

"He just knew he never wanted to move from that spot in that position staring down in those green eyes with her fingers wrapped around his for the rest of his life."

The Time In Between was such a beautiful story,I was hooked from the beginning and I had so many feelings. This was an emotional, heartwarming, sweet and intense story.

"I was in love with Coert Yeager in a way that it just simply would never die."

I adored Coert and Cady and I just wanted to see them happy.Coert is a swoon worthy hero like all KA's heroes. He is sweet, bossy, protective and sexy.Cady is a lovable heroine.I loved their connection, they had some really intense moments making me ache for them.

Another KA book that had me in tears, I still need to recover. What are you waiting? If you haven't read this series do it now!!!KA never disappoint s you!

-SAY WHAT? NOW KINDLE UNLIMITED!!!
5 I Love This Series Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
Yup, This series works for me. I was on board from the start with The Will. It had a rocky acceptance with many as it was more interpersonal rather than KA's usual action. Also, her main character, Josie was like nothing before. Then came Soaring and that just took off. KA continued to focus on mistakes people make, rash decisions...heartbreaking ones... and then the recovery to get to the other side.

With The Time in Between, she lays it all out on a silver platter...the message is so clear, it could be in Flashing Neon Lights...

In order to move on in life, we must let go of things that are holding you back...All the Guilt, Rage, All the Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda...
You've Got to Let that Sh!t Go...

Because if you don't, you will miss out on all the beauty you could be having right now.

Sounds easy...But we all know it is not...
You have to work through things...to quote KA, you have to get Shot of it...And it is the process of doing just that and then the reward...
She also focuses on how we grow and become who we are from all of what we experience...and when it is a second chance love story, one must accept the Time in Between the reuniting... those years happened and what took place during them must be understood and appreciated too.

That is what this entire book is about.

Oh, there is a terrific love story, one that was intense and immediate... one where you know when you have meant Your One...and what was really cool was both people felt that way...Only serious problem was the fact that our fella, Coert, was playing a role on the outside for all to see...But on the inside and when our gal, Cady, looked into his eyes, he was stripped away, open and true to who he was...And that was the man she fell in love with...

They both had to just believe in each other... and they would get through it all...in the end.
But once the playing of a part was over...and the results of it all came down crashing all around the both of them...Cady was so traumatized and abandoned by all, she couldn't see a way clear...She was given a lifeline and she grabbed on...And when Coert saw her holding on for dear life...He wouldn't allow Cady to say words that needed to be said...Instead, Coert lashed out, said his words which were cruel and hurtful.

These two then go about living one day at a time...making their way through the world.

Much Happens...Some experiences are wonderful.

For Cady, what was first a rescue came to be a coming together as a family. It was as real as if it was tied by blood instead of love. She experiences family love, family pain ...yet still has a hole in her heart. The man who was her lifeline knows she needs to fill this void... to get to the past to have her future. He puts all the wheels in motion for Cady to accomplish what he knows she must do.

Coert had to live his life without the girl who made a difference. He had it in his head what Cady's life was all about. It turned him, soured him, made him hard with no commitments. He would be with someone, maybe even for years... and then couldn't make it real with a ring...did it twice and the last relationship didn't end as friendly as the first.

This time Coert's ex decided to manipulate in the worst way...but the ex didn't get the happy ever after she had hoped...instead, she was left to feel all the distaste ... from herself and Coert. However, Coert received a way to have the happiness he never thought he would have... and he held on tight to it.

Two decades go by...That means these characters are in their Forties.

Cady has been directed from the grave to follow her path...She is in Magdalene to see the Lighthouse... it is for sale and she is up to the task of renovating it. Magdalene is also where Coert is the Sheriff. In her heart of hearts, she knows things must be said to each other. Misunderstandings need to be cleared up. She is afraid but will figure out a way.

When Coert sees Cady for the first time... he is stunned. Then he is angry, confused, and when having to deal with Cady, cold. For both of them, it is difficult...so many emotions swirling under the controlled conversations.

It all comes to a head... and then we are in the thick of it.

KA does more than just a love story. She spotlights families... all types and how sometimes they can be cruel, cold, and hurtful. How a woman from that type of environment tries on her own to make something of herself. She sees a path; it isn't the most glamorous but through her eyes, she sees a way to show future employers her determination to develop a career. To show she is trustworthy, dependable, and able to be there every day. She sees her path and is trying like hell to stay on it.

Her only hiccup is the friends she still loves from grade school and high school. They have gone on another path... and it is her loyalty and also loneliness which keeps her in their circle. This is how she meets Coert and through their time together, Coert sees Cady for the woman she is... A young woman trying to overcome a crappy cruel family, break out of a crappy job, and become someone.
What KA shows us through Cady is the will to carry on and love fully... to take what she has been given and give back openly without an agenda. She sees what is right and does it... she also knows how to forgive and move on...

Coert learns that lesson through Cady...She opens his eyes to what has been happening in his life without her. He sees how he has hurt others unnecessarily... and decides to work through it all.

When these two finally come together...we are into the swoon times. It is full-on and nonstop. It is everything KA does best. There will be moments to make your heart go pitter-pat. The sexy times are yummy and the locations vary, tee hee.

Oh, there is also a plot point about the town and a past asshat who is trying to start trouble. We get new characters to love and enjoy all the past characters of the Magdalene series and then for good measure, KA throws in some blasts from the past books for you to get you crazy, stupid happy.

I think those who love KA will be pleased... at least I hope so.

Kristen Ashley is one of the ONLY authors that delivers again and again. WHATEVER book/genre she writes I can be assured that I'll enjoy it. It's rare to find an author that is this versatile, talented, and has such a unique voice that it will NEVER get boring.

Of course, throughout the years and her 40plus books, there are some books that stand out more than others. The MAGDALENA series has been one of those series. Every single book has been heartbreakingly beautiful, deeply affecting and an emotional roller coaster. She gives these couples a second chance, often later in live, that involves big families, kids and ex-partners.

I'm at that point where I don't even need to read her blurbs anymore because who cares what the book will be about it's a KA book - enough said!!

So, while reading The Time in Between I was reminded again and again why I liked KA as much as I did. Kristen Ashley's unique brand of dialogues, her vivid and detailed description, her sense of fashion, interior design and her absolute god-given talent of writing some of the BEST families I've ever had the pleasure of reading - makes her a JOY and a devour-in-one-sitting kind of author.

OMG - and The Time in Between had the BEST cameo EVER!!!! Rock Chicks rejoice!!!! I was smiling so HARD!!! I loved, loved, loved the connection to Denver, it was such an amazing surprise - she couldn't have written it any better.

The beginning of The Time in Between was a little slow, and I had some trouble understanding Cady's family ties, but that was forgotten as quickly as I got deeper into the story.

I have to mention it again, there is NO ONE that writes families as well as KA. There was so much love, affection, loyalty, and fun in The Time in Between. Her character (most of them) have the most wonderful family values that I wish everyone would experience in their life. And the women have the best husbands of all. :D

Reading a KA novel makes me HAPPY!! And I'm super glad that she writes like crazy because I would hate having to wait an entire year for the chance to read another Kristen Ashley book.

I'm already waiting for her next book. Her books are kindle crack. Addictive to the extreme!!!

"I met Coert Yeager at age twenty-three. And he’d ruined me for all other men in all ways.”

I truly enjoyed the first half of the story (4.5 Stars) as this second chance romance works out very sweetly. Kristen Ashley perfectly wrapped up all of what happened in the past between Cady and Coert.

“Promise, Cady. Stick with me, no matter what.”

description

Then the second half of the story happened and I was bored out of my mind. For me it was like a 2 Stars or less simply for my sheer utter boredom.

description

Truthfully for me, this story should have wrapped up at the halfway mark, with the VERY GOOD epilogue enclosed.

“Love you.”
“Love you most.”

You know it’s . . . Idk what it is, true love? Blind devotion towards the author? . . . when you love a story you’d normally hate.

Arguably, this book had: (SPOILERS!)

an irredeemable alpha male H,

Coert (28) was an undercover cop when he met Cady (23). She knew him as Tony, and he was investigating her friends whom she didn’t know were involved in some illegal shit at the time. Against his better judgement, he acted SELFISHLY and pursued a relationship with Cady whilst hiding his true identity.

a very bizZzarre fake betrayal,

Upon finding out the truth about Coert, Cady was crushed. In throes of heartbreak, she accepted a proposition from a 65 yo gentleman and widower named Patrick. His intention was to adopt her into his family (Cady had a shitty home life), but the only way to do that was through marriage.

Coert was on his way to explain and come clean to Cady, when he learned of her engagement with the old man. He left thinking that she’d gotten herself a sugar daddy when in reality their relationship was strictly platonic and akin to that of father-daughter. So, in losing Coert she gained a family.

a doormat heroine who was perfect in every way,

Young Cady was naive and vulnerable, but throughout the years she’d learned to be a saint. After her marriage with Patrick, she grew close with him and his children. She chose to stay married to him despite his blessing to go out and date people. She stuck with him and cared for him until he died of cancer. All the while she was also PINING for Coert and abstaining from sex.

the quickest most instantaneous insta-love,

The first time Court & Cady met, it was love at first sight and they never stopped loving each other even after everything that’d happened between them. Sweet, right? 🤡

an uncomplicated second chance romance,

“Eighteen years ago Coert and I fell together against all odds.
Then it ended.
And neither of us got over it.
No more missed opportunities.
It was time to risk everything.”

Coert was 46 and Cady 41 when they reunited. While Cady had had time to come to terms with what happened between them, Coert was still holding on to his bitterness and wasn’t all that thrilled to have Cady back in his life. Hence, he acted like an asshole towards her (yet again). He did eventually admit that HE was to blame for their relationship going south.

“I fucked us up. I fucked you up. From the beginning. Used you. Knew it was wrong. Knew it would break us. Knew it. Did it anyway.”

[...]

“I blamed you because I couldn’t take it. I laid that shit on you because I couldn’t live with the fact I’d done that to you. [...] You wanted out, I made you stay in. I made you a part of that. I made you live that right there. In it. Covering you in filth. In shit.”

[...]

“I’d come home and you’d smile at me and throw yourself in my arms and call me Tony. [...] Every day hoping that I’d give you reason to believe and every day I gave you reason to walk away, and you stuck by me and I was using you.”

[...]

“I loved you and I made you live a hell.”

And THAT’S the extent of his grovelling (which is to say, it’s not one at all) and, I guess, apology cause Cady assuaged him of that guilt, assured him that it was all behind them, and proceeded to be all forgiving and shit. Everything was back to sunshine and rainbows. Then they fucked like rabbits. Wait, ACTUALLY, they did the make up sex BEFORE Coert’s explanation. That’s how much behind them Cady’d put their past history . . .

Coert looked into emerald eyes.
Christ, how did he start?
Christ, how did he fix something that he broke before he’d even started it?
“I should have let you explain. I should have explained myself what—”
He didn’t say any more.
She threw herself at him.

an extended epilogue the size of Texas and as long as the Nile river,

I’ll have you know that pretty much ALL OF THAT was unpacked and resolved within the 50% mark. The following chapters were basically Coert and Cady’s HEA—them doing domestic stuff, being all gushy, getting to know each other’s families, rediscovering and catching up with each other’s lives, exploring their relationship, and planning for their future.

AS IT HAPPENED . . .

The Time in Between dug its way into my heart.

The angst was so on point. Despite the above mentioned elements, something about this story just hit me right in the feels. KA always has a way of turning the most unlikely scenarios/tropes into something that doesn’t feel tasteless or too surface-level.

The addition of suspense/action (Coert was working to catch an ex-felon who had been murdering people and committing arsons) had me hooked because it was the most excitement I got out of this series that was mostly all about family and romance.

Janie. Janie. Janie. As you may or may not know, single parent romance is my catnip. All the books in this series have this component, but the children in the first two books are teenagers. Janie was an adorable five year old. She belonged to Coert.

The found family aspect was heartwarming. Cady’s arrangement with Patrick was strange and kinda disturbing, but I really loved the implied message that family isn’t always about blood; rather it’s the one you make. Besides, who lowkey wouldn’t wish to be approached and sugar babied adopted by a wealthy old dude? No? 😜

The second half of the book wasn’t as engaging as the first, but I: (1) adored the side romance between Elijah and Verity; (2) loved the cameo appearances of the characters from the Rock Chick series; (3) fancied how this series was wrapped up—bringing in the characters from all the books; and, (4) relished the fact that Boston Stone finally got what he deserved.

“We both suffered but neither of us stopped living our lives and we got so much out of them, so, so much. And now we have each other. So we have it all.”

The Magdalene has been a wonderful, intense, and emotional series. Admittedly, I didn’t have fun as much as I would’ve liked, but I smiled, swooned, and cried. The books had their moments of total blandness, and I’ve noticed that they were more mellow compare to KA’s other series, which is why it’s not my favorite. I also didn’t really favor the fact that the characters were in their early 40s, though I appreciate what it conveyed.

However, it couldn’t be denied that the exploration of family and its complexities were astounding; the romances were tender and sexy; and, the characters had an air of maturity and wisdom that younger KA’s characters didn’t have (or Idk what, but if you’ve read KA, I think you get me). In addition, the settings of these books were stunning. It’s like, if I were old and divorced, I’d wanna pick up my life and live the rest of my days in Magdalene too, lol.

5 'Our Paradise' Stars!

Every time I finish a book by Kristen Ashley I am left with the same feeling: pure happiness. I am left with a HUGE smile on my face because this woman satisfies all my romance expectations. The Time in Between was the perfect story to end this emotional series. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

So, The Time in Between is the third and final installment in the Magdalene series and what better way to end it than with a second chance romance? Cady Moreland and Coert Yeager had a beautiful love story 18 years ago but it ended suddenly and in very bad terms. Now Cady is back, she wants some peace but Coert is not having that. He turns her world upside down all over again (and it’s FANTASTIC!).

He wanted me to avoid him?
That I could do.
What I wasn’t going to do was let him break me.
Not again.

I just freaking LOVE Kristen Ashley. She is my queen because her stories hit me on every spot imaginable. This novel is what I expected from what we have seen in the Magdalene series: it was extremely emotional and dramatic but also funny and (definitely) hot AF. The story goes between past and present and it works so well. Cady and Coert are one hell of a couple and you will feel their chemistry in every page!

“I loved you and I made you live a hell.”
“I loved you and I was happy to be in that hell if you were there with me.”

Of course, besides the wonderful couple, we have outstanding secondary characters: the couples from the other books, the respective families (but specially Cady’s), a secondary younger couple (so cute!) and the most adorable children. I love finding this familiarity in novels. The relationship with the whole family is so heartfelt and you just feel part of them while reading.

“All her life, she never belonged anywhere. Not anywhere. Not with her family, who didn’t allow her to belong. Not her real family, my family, who wants her to belong. The only time she ever belonged to anything, to anyone, was when she belonged to you.”

And finally, the ending. Nobody writes happy endings like Kristen Ashley. They are absolutely PERFECT in every way. A wonderful epilogue with the whole crew that any KA fans out there will adore. Cady and Coert (and all the others) surely deserved their happily ever after.

“We had a version of paradise, but this here? This is the real thing.”

Therefore, obviously, I am rating The Time in Between with 5 STARS because this second chance romance just was everything I expected it to be: the perfect way to end the Magdalene series (a series that deserves to be remembered, that is for sure!). These three couples (and novels) will steal your heart: don’t miss them for the world guys!

Surviving The Time in Between

I feel a little guilty as I type this…it’s Father’s Day. I’m typing as I tell myself it’s OK because I’m letting him have a huge sleep in. See, I’m being nice. But, there’s this little part of me that feels guilty because I can’t think about Father’s Day because I just experienced MAGIC. Poor hubby, I’ve tried to show him how much I appreciate him for being the best husband and father to our children but Father’s Day should NOT be anywhere close to a Kristen Ashley release date. I’m just glad that I finished The Time in Between before he woke up. Let’s hope this rush job does it justice, probably won’t, but fingers crossed.

I don’t care what anyone else says, but this book, this writing, this experience is what makes me a loud and proud OCKAA. Obsessive Compulsive Kristen Ashley Addict. I’m pronouncing it like the Aussie term Ocker. Definition - The term "ocker" is used both as a noun and adjective for an Australian who speaks and acts in a rough and uncultivated manner, using a broad Australian accent. Now obviously, an Ocker is very different from an OCKAA, but I like the idea that I can have a word dedicated to my love for Kristen Ashley’s work. So, I’m an OCKAA…of the smooth, cultivated and dignified Australian variety, with a normal Australian accent.

Getting back to the story…Holy Shamoly!! That was bloody awesome!! I was high and I was low. I cried, I laughed and I wanted to scream and shout. This story was everything I hoped for. It was a journey taking us from bad decisions to stumbling away from disasters. How a chance meeting with a good and kind man can change your life and give you something you always wished for.

Then, there was the time in between. You’re somewhat content but missing that magical ingredient that brings brightness to your eyes. Every day you live your life knowing that a part of you is missing. Memories are bittersweet because while they are from some of your best times, they’re tainted by a name.

To be honest, I was a little hesitant to start this instalment of the Magdalene series. I liked The Will, I struggled a little with Soaring, so I was concerned that The Time in Between would just be OK. I was happy that my worries were for nothing. This is by far the best in the series.

It COULD be read as a standalone, but there are so many little bits that would be enhanced if you’ve read every book that Kristen Ashley has written. Maybe not EVERY book but most of them. I wanted to finish this one and go straight on to read Rock Chicks (the whole series), The Golden Dynasty, Walk Through Fire and For You. People and places pop up. A word is spoken triggering a memory of another epic read. It was like catching up with friends. Returning to your favourite haunts. Getting the gossip about people you know. Just a feeling of comfort, like a settling that would come over me when I crawl back into KA world. There’s nothing like it.

It was not a smooth ride reading The Time In Between. I wanted to have my shaking finger out to give a few lectures. A douchewaffle or two needed a kick in the butt. Hubby was called on for hugs and smooches when my tears wouldn’t stop. I even had a chat with my son about forgiveness and holding judgement until the facts have been heard. Geez, I could learn from that lesson myself.

Again, Kristen Ashley has taken me from despising a character so intensely to questioning how I could have ever felt that way. I have to admit, even I was starting to compare my absolutely awesome hubby to Coert. He comes good...like really, really good. Why won’t my hubby protect me from my relatives when they get snarky or pick on me? Ok, I admit, maybe I’m being a bit hard on hubby. There is no way I could compare my family squabbles with what Cady dealt with.

If you’re looking for a read that will take you out of your world for a little while, The Time in Between is perfect. It made me appreciate my good times and realise that my bad times weren’t so bad after all. I recognised real love between the characters because it was familiar to me. There was a dedication to the family some deserved and some completely undeserved, that made me feel happiness and sorrow. Sometimes you can pick your family and that family will be your real one. The real one has your back, stands at your side or takes the front if needed and without question.

I loved The Time in Between and it will definitely be going into my re-read pile again...and again...and again...

It’s Father’s Day, best shut this down and show hubby how much I love him. The best husbands make the best Dads…well in my world they do.

Overall Opinion: Well... I think I did it again! I was so darn anxious to read this book that I set my expectations too high. I was hoping that it would get me out of my funk of mediocre book ratings and that I'd love it, but sadly that didn't happen. I got emotional, and I cried -- but something big was missing here. I actually normally quite enjoy the jerk Hs and the unrequited/tortured love feelings I got here, BUT it was missing the good grovel needed to make it all ok! It was like the H snapped his fingers and all of a sudden everything was ok (and even super mushy), and I was left feeling a little confused. I know lots of readers might say the h was a doormat, but I wouldn't necessarily go that far. She definitely needed to speak in for herself! She also needed to MAKE the H give her some kind of grovel or even give her a proper apology!! But I appreciated her personality and how she was incredibly loyal to those she loved, and I understood where she was coming from a lot of the time. I also get that they had a bad past so we didn't really need a lot more drama for them, but the Boston Stone drama was stupid and boring and I honestly skimmed most of it! I really, really hate giving this such a low rating, but after writing this review and spelling everything out I don't really feel like I can justify giving it anything higher...🤷🏻‍♀️

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Cady and Coert's story. They meet at a party that Cady doesn't want to be at, and even though she is instantly drawn to him she is unsure she wants to associate with him because he is friends with some shady people. Coert ends up pursuing her, and she cannot fight the instant connection she feels with him. Something happens and they are separated for many years, but they never forgot or even fully moved on from one another. The reunion is not a happy one, as Coert has anger and hurt over what occurred years ago. When an arsonist sets fire to some buildings in town, they end up connecting again and work to get past their past hurts. There is a good bit of family drama, some sweet and funny moments, and some sexy times...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Cady and Coert's POV. It also had a few chapters that were in the past when they had first met.

Overall Pace of Story: Slow. I skimmed some during the decor descriptions and even the Boston Stone drama.

Instalove: Kind of. When the met years prior to the story they had an instant connection.

H rating: 3 stars. Coert. He was definitely hard to like at first, but I came around to appreciating how he cared for the h.

h rating: 3 stars. Cady. I liked her loyalty and how she was sweet, but I did want her to be stronger at times and speak up for herself. I wouldn't necessarily call her a doormat, but she was definitely toeing that line.

Sadness level: Moderate. I'm a sucker for unrequited love type situations in stories, so I cried and needed a few tissues in the first half.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story (Some mild bondage).

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had pretty good closure with a jump ahead epilogue and a HEA ending. (Note: it ended at pg. 746/807 or 92% on my Scribd app)

How I got it: I got it with my Scribd subscription.

Safety: This one is probably Safe with exception for most safety gang readers

I don’t even know where to start! After loving The Will and Soaring I‘m so disappointed with this one. My brain is scrambled and fried after slogging my way through this book. It was hard going, the disjointed filler got so bad I found myself going cross eyed trying to make sense of the nonsensical rambling, and at times even zoning out. My head still hurts and I’m sure my review is going to reflect this 🤕

We have:

* Coert - an alpha hero who is really just a total dick. That was inexcusable.

* Cady, said naive and vulnerable young woman that turned into Seriously, who does that?!?

* Remember naive and vulnerable Cady? Well, add martyr and saint to her title because Cady owned her martyrdom. She’s also so very perfect in every way. 😇 She’s the perfect aunt, the perfect friend, is loaded, can bake the best pie (word count on pie – 63!!!)

* I felt no connection to either character, I didn’t like either of them or the ridiculous decisions they made over the years.

* Plot lines not fleshed out – why was her mother and brother so vile to her? Unless this was explained in one of my cross-eyed zone out sessions this is not fleshed out or explained which is just sloppy writing.

* The book should have ended around the 40% mark. The last 60% was painful, it dragged and it bored me to tears with nonsensical rambling, and I quote:

” In other words, it’s not just done, it’s done. And they’re not just gone, they’re gonna be gone.” “In other words, we didn’t just win, we won" Say what? 😕

And then this out of a 5 year old’s mouth – really??

I can’t even 😕

* And lastly that non-epilogue! What the hell was that? I had hoped one of KA’s epic epilogues would at least save this for me, but not this time. After slogging through hundreds of pages of filler the ending was so rushed, with an epilogue about ……. another couple! No joke. 😤

I have read every single KA book bar Matilda and her BDSM series and loved most of them, but for me, her latest books haven’t been anywhere near the quality of her earlier works. This is a sad, sad day – KA is officially off my auto buy/pre-order list.

Gutted. 😔

I actually mostly enjoyed this one. If you've ever read Kristen Ashley then you know more or less what you're gonna get and you definitely get it in this one. The problem is KA even in a new "area" keeps repeating herself.

description

For me the "bad" bits are mostly the fact that she continually connects everyone new with absolutely everyone "old" from her previous books. And for anyone that hasn't read her other series, I would imagine it's confusing. I really didn't need to revisit the Rock Chicks in this one. Wasn't the posse in Magdalene enough?Along with her own huge family? How big can a squad get before it looses it's meaning and charm?

It just feels like she's going OTT on her own formula and it just doesn't wow me like it used to. KA is a fearless author, trying various genres, but she doesn't stray from her basic formula and that unfortunately makes her characters feel interchangeable occasionally. She has toned down her descriptions in this one in comparison to the first book in the series so I was grateful for that. But as most of her latest books, it did lag a bit in the middle. I wanted to read more about Verity and Elijah at points rather than Cady and Coert.

Overall it was good with a glimpse the old KA wonder but it ultimately failed to sweep me off my feet.

P.S. I really think she should do more dirty talker Alphas as she does it so well.(I mean like dirty talking for a good part of the book not a page here and there.)I want more good (or is it bad?) dirty talkers, what can say?

"We had a version of paradise, but this here? This is the real thing."

The Time in Between is the third book in the Magdalene Series and it can be read as a stand-alone. In this third book, KA offers a second chance romance that spans the lives of two individual that fell in love in some difficult circumstances, were separated for years and then brought back together to make things right.

Cady met Coert when she was a young adult. As she was just starting out her life, she struggled to pull away from her parents and secure a safe place to start her life. Coert was older and wiser and seemed to have it all together. When he and Cady fell in love, Coert had a big secret. A secret that despite his best efforts, would tear them apart. When Cady and Coert are separated they both move forward with their lives. Although they tried to move on, they never forgot about each other and the love they once shared. When Cady and Coert meet again, it becomes abundantly clear that even the passing of time cannot keep two people that were meant to be apart.

description

Told in dual POV, The Time in Between offers a touching second chance romance set in a picturesque town. With small-town drama, Cady and Coert have multiple obstacles to overcome. I found Cady to be an endearing character who made the best choices she could considering her circumstances. Coert is a rugged alpha male and it takes quite a bit of time for him to recognize the mistakes he has made regarding Cady and the life they could have had. The pacing of the read is slow but balanced nicely with the plight of the characters. In true KA fashion, she has created a complex world with lyrical writing, passion, and romance. The Magdalene Series focuses on relationships and the intricacies of family dynamics. Fans of KA will undoubtedly enjoy this read. Although Coert and Cady aren't my favorite KA couple, I certainly enjoyed my return to Magdalene and found this second chance romance to be one full of beauty, passion, and an abundance of tenderness.

He finally looked into her eyes. “I loved you and I made you live a hell.”
“I loved you and I was happy to be in that hell if you were there with me.”

Kristen Ashley is truly the queen of Alpha romance and she's back with this absolutely gorgeous, heart-warming, and fulfilling second chance romance! I read it in one sitting and loved it!! The hero and heroine reconnect 18 years after being torn apart and OMG their reunion was EPIC!! Holy freaking FEELS!! But the very best part about reading a story with a more mature couple was how satisfyingly functional they were in their relationship. After losing nearly two decades of time together and happiness, they were deeply appreciative of how precious their second chance at a happily ever after was. If you love single dad romances too, you're going to swoon hard over what an amazing father this hero was to his little girl. Ooooooooh and for longtime KA fans, you'll be treated to cameos galore in this book as well! Bottom line, if you're a fan of Alpha romance, this is a must-read!!

A fire in town sparks a different kind of flame that won’t be ignored...

As many of you know, Kristen Ashley is one of my most favorite author. I've read over 40 of her books over the years and I love everything about her unique writing style, characters that feel so real it's almost as though you know them personally, and her epic romances that are just brimming with sexiness and emotion. She's a true gem of an author.

This story has a bit of a slow start due in large part to the complexity of the story. The hero and heroine met in their early 20's. He was an undercover cop assigned to use her to infiltrate some criminals she was friends with by gaining her trust and making her fall in love with him. He was falling for her for real though and it absolutely tore him up to lie to her, even though he had to do his job. She loved him with all her heart too and when the truth of what he'd done was revealed, it shattered her world and drove them apart.

“It breaks me.”
I turned back to her and it took a great deal, too much, to stare into her beautiful brown eyes shining with tears and not allow my own to come.
“What you could have had,” she finished. “What you two could have build together. When I think about it, it breaks me.”

Eighteen years later, they got their second chance at happiness. But there was a lot of history to heal. The time in between their past and present had changed so much about their lives -- she had found a family she never expected, and he'd become a single father to a little girl who he adored with all his heart -- but the one thing that hadn't changed for either of them, even under the layers of pain, was the love they shared. They were each other's one-and-only, and though that love had been buried, it had never truly dimmed...

Eighteen years ago Coert and I fell together against all odds.
Then it ended.
And neither of us got over it.
No more missed opportunities.
It was time to risk everything.

The story alternated between the past and present as KA slowly wove all the threads of their story together. As mentioned, it had a slow start due to the many storylines that needed to converge, but once the picture came into focus, the FEELS just hit. The heart-break, the longing, the gut wrenching pain of "what if" that came with being in the same town as the only person either of them had ever loved...

“I think it’s safe to say out loud that you went back there because you’re still in love with him and you wanted to see if that could be salvaged,” Kath said baldly.
I drew in a sharp breath and kept staring at the view.
“Right?” she pushed. “Is that safe to say?”
“Yes,” I whispered.

My favorite thing about this book was how functional they were as a couple. Like seriously FUNCTIONAL. Because of a combination of their ages (early forties) and the fact that having lived through the consequences of their own mistakes and knowing how much they'd lost, once they became an official couple, the way that they supported each other, had each other's backs, and dealt with things so efficiently and with no unnecessary drama was just incredible. There is zero stupidity in this book. There are mistakes and misunderstandings because after all, we're all just human. But they're honest mistakes. I don't even have words to describe how much I love reading about couples like this -- who just make it them against the world and work together to make things better.

“If we do this, we have to learn something from what came before.”
“What’s that?” she asked quietly.
“We have to learn, even when it gets hard, we can’t give up and we can’t let go.”

Just for example, his situation could have easily been complicated because he had a daughter with a woman he'd never loved and so there was his child and her mother to add to the equation. That whole scenario could easily have spiralled into drama but I'll just show you in his own words how easy he made it just by not making it hard:

His voice dipped low when he said, “If we make it hard, if we make a big deal of it, if we communicated there’s something to worry about or if we feel we might be doing something wrong, Janie’ll read that. If we are just what we are right here and right now, and your family is good to her and me, which I know they’ll be because they love you, then we’ve got nothing to worry about.”

This couple didn't play games. They told the truth. They were open with each other. I loved them so much!

One of my favorite things about KA is the way she portrays extended families. Family dynamics can be so complicated but they don't need to be fraught with drama and the way she writes them is so beautiful. The heroine in this book has an incredible family and support network that had no blood relation to her. And something this story showed with grace, beauty, and reverence was the way family is made up of the people who'd give anything for you, who want to see you happy, and will stick by your side even when things get rough. I love the concept that family does not have to be determined by blood alone, and the dynamics in this book were pure Kristen Ashley gold.

Another thing that I love about KA books is that you aren't just told a snapshot story about a couple. Instead her detailed writing style and lengthly novels leads you more into a situation where you just get to LIVE with the couple for a while. You don't just hear about their higlights, instead you read everything. You see trips the grocery store, random phone conversations, running errands, everything. You step into their life for 400 pages.

“Can you see how all this is intense?” she demanded. “It isn’t like we were too young and hadn’t learned how to communicate yet, how to compromise, how to be in a relationship. There was murder and felonies and my family didn’t help… It went wrong. Okay, so it went horribly wrong, devastatingly wrong. But not we have a choice. Keep letting it go wrong or make it right.”

And omg. THE BUILD UP.
I had tears in my eyes.
My heart was in my throat.
I was breathless in pure anticipation of their reunion.
And IT. WAS. EPIC!!!

“Are you, um… going to ravage me again?” I asked.
“You want me to sit here and try to find words to tell you how much I love you or you want me to show you?”

You can definitely read this book as a complete standalone (even without the others in this series) and be totally fine. Or you can read it as the third standalone of the Magdalene series. The focus though is really on this couple. There are however some other fun cameos from another KA series that were a really fun surprise! If you haven't read it though, don't worry at all. You'll be good either way.

This is definitely another solid KA favorite for me! It's a slow building, slow burning romance that was deeply heart-warming, incredibly sexy, and truly beautiful. Alpha male romance at it's best. I loved it and highly recommend it!

Rating: 4.5 stars!! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone.

Hmm, I really really wanted to love this. I did. But I just could not.

I find more and more, that KA loves to put her heroines up on pedestals. (and as much as I have re read the Rock Chick series, once I had noticed this theme, I started getting more and more annoyed with the whole "oh these girls are rock chicks, they are special" that runs through those books.)

Here we have Cady, who the whole family just loves sooo much, and she pretty much seems to be the centre of the family (and I know it is her book but still). She is just perfect (as most KA heroines are, they are just better at being female then you know, the rest of us)

And we have a bit of jumping back and forth time wise, to when Cady and Coert met, HOWEVER, we never actually get to experience them falling in love, just them meeting really, then get told as second hand information that they were so in love, and in vague terms what happened to split them up. Which means 1. I never really understood what led her to actually marry her husband and then pretty much put her life on hold for him for years, and 2. I never really felt it rang true that Cady and Coert would have been in love years later, or had such strength of feeling for each other in the intervening years.

So her moving to where the hero lives, with his young daughter, just to throw up everything in his face again seemed like a totally crazy stalker move. Not to mention her husband had had Coert being followed by a PI for years. Then we have Coert and how he used her 18 years before. I am not sure these two deserved a happy ending, although maybe they deserved each other.

So when they actually, after months stopped circling each other, and Coert stopped being mean, Cady stopped being a martyr and they got back together, and it was straight away "we are soooo in love, the most in love couple that ever was" I did not believe it. Because we never got to experience them falling. Just got told it was so.

And then the drama, just pick ONE. Either a crazed serial killer setting fires and after you both OR the estranged brother and nephew with a terrible illness OR the drama bout the land around the lighthouse. Not that any of it added any excitement, it all just fizzled out rather quickly.

Then ofc we have the mentioning of previous much loved characters. Such as mentioning Chaos in passing, having some of the Rock Chick bunch appear. And I might be cynical, but in all honesty, for me they don't really appear naturally, it is more they are brought in to prop up a failing plot. As a distraction.

I mean, I read it and finished it. But KA is no longer an auto buy for me, and no loner even in my top 5 of favourite authors, and he held the top spot for years.

2 stars.

This is the worst KA book I've read. It was slow and boring. The flashbacks to their past showed us nothing. I never read how they fell in love in the past. In the present it was slow going then near the half way mark they kiss and make up and the rest of the book was boring filler with far too much sickly sweet 'i love you's' and sickening replies of 'love you more'. I didn't feel like I was reading a KA book with the soppy dialogue.

Coert isn't alpha male and Cady is a doormat. The story was all over the place and seemed like KA couldn't be bothered but then again when people give her work undeserving 5 stars is it any wonder she makes no effort?

Well, seems I'm yet again the odd woman out, since most of my friends seemed to love this one, but, Oh man, I can't believe how disappointed I am right now....

This is one of my fav KA series, and I had such high expectations for The Time in Between from the moment it was announced, but Coert and Cady's just let me down in a big way.

Coert turned out to be a major asshole, yes, KA's Hs, always have some jerk moments, but this one... Lord, I just couldn't forgive him, specially because of his mean, awful treatment of the h, and it last for so long, almost till 50%! And to top then and bam, does 180 and NO GROVELLING!!!! And here is the second part of my huge disappointment, Candy, oh, Cady.... One of the weakest and more doormat female character I have ever read! :( This woman, really was an emotional punching bad, over, and over, since the beginning, and by everyone (yes, even her longing actual family, admit to being horrible in the start and she taking it). Yes, it's good to have a forgiving nature, at least that's what I'm told- I'm personally a grudgeful bitch, no news here, lol, and maybe why it bother me that much - but Cady was the very definition of sacrificial lamb! She took it, and took it, and even after they made up, she just pretended like there was no 18 year separation and that still everything was HER fault, or that it was to forget... Good God, woman!
Anyway, rant is over, and I have to point out, as usual I was involved with the writing, though we still get a lot of repeated KA maneirisms, but it was an interesting storyline, but I couldn't get past these MCs personalities and characterization.
Of course what ended up saving, and raising this rating from a negative one was that PERFECT Epilogue! Lordy, that beautiful ending, was so emotional, so HEA in every way, and tied up the series with the perfect bow, that almost made me forget the disappointment with rest of the story, almost.... Sigh...

5 The Time in Between Stars

I am in awe!

This is exactly the kind of story that made me fall in love with Kristen Ashley’s books.

A second chance at love is just magic to me. And I loved Coert & Cady they deserved to be together.

The way they loved each other is something to strive for. You can’t have that much pain and sorrow and not have that much love.

I have loved each book in the series, but just in a different way. Cady makes you believe in hope.

I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I smiled so much my face hurt listening to this brilliant book of love and friendship.

I am also sure I have said this before but Kristen Ashley has a way of writing kids into a story that is not only believable but so realistic. I love this so much!

I am in awe of Erin Mallon’s ability to make me love each character. To know each voice. To fall in love with love.
Fantastic.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

3 Second Chance Stars!!

Cady and Coert’s story begins in Denver eighteen years earlier. Their attraction was instant, mutual, and it didn’t take long before they were in love. Cady’s home life was a sad lonely existence; she’s unappreciated and generally ignored unless it’s to tell her what a failure she is, mainly by her cold unfeeling mother and brother…her father just kinda tows the line. Problem is Cady doesn’t want the life her parents expect out of her, she content working at a convenience store, while striving make her dreams of becoming a clothing buyer come true.

Cady is a loyal friend to her childhood friend and her friend’s live-in boyfriend who you instinctively know are bad news. While at party with her best friend she meets Coert and she’s instantly drawn to him even though she knows she should stay away from him due to his association with the criminal element her BFF’s boyfriend associates with. But their sizzling chemistry is too strong to ignore….for both of them. Naturally they fall in love. Things blow up with her friends and she learns of Coert’s true intentions which sends Cady on a path that destroys their future since Cady didn’t stick around for explanations or answers from Coert.

We eventually learn why Cady did the things she did that sent Coert away for good…I can’t say I fully understand why she married someone else less than a month later, especially a man older than her father, a man who clearly cared about Cady and gave her a large readymade loving family, and although I admire her loyalty to him for eighteen years, I just have a hard time understanding her motivation for the marriage to begin with.

Fast forward eighteen years later, Coert is now the sheriff of a small Maine town. He knows the people and everything that goes on in Magdalene which means he is fully aware that Cady has purchased the Magdalene Lighthouse with plans of renovating and living in it. Their first face to face meeting did not go well, in fact, Coert is bitter and a complete asshole to Cady for the first half of the book. Eventually they find their way but not without more drama and heartbreak before Coert stops being an uncompromising ass and Cady stops being a doormat.

“I don’t wanna see you. I don’t wanna hear from you. I don’t want anything to do with you. I can’t imagine what would give you even that first hint that I’d ever wanna have you even a shadow in my life again.”

Sadly, I knew by the quarter mark that this was book would not be going on my “KA Favorites Shelf”. Normally a KA book totally consumes me, but, the last couple of KA books were just….okay, in a non-consuming way. Don’t get me wrong, I still love and adore KA just not the last couple of books, hopefully this is not a trend for me, although to be fair, it may just be my perception because I seem to be in the minority.

All-in-all, I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Jake, Josie, Mickey, Amy, Junior, Alyssa, all the “kids” and the side story between Cady’s niece Verity and her tenant Elijah which was very sweet (I wish we were given more on their storyline). I love when we get series cross over characters and we are treated to some of our beloved “Rock Chick” characters who are intertwined with Coert’s past. Lastly, KA is the Queen of Epilogues and she does not disappoint here, so because of the epilogue, the appearance of Magdalene (past) characters, the Rock Chick characters, and Verity’s side story I’ve actually upped my rating.

I think I've changed as a person. In that I no longer have the patience to overlook things that piss me off, or disgust me by their sheer stupidity. Or maybe my sense of loyalty has changed? I used to like Kristen Ashley so much that I would suspend my disbelief, distaste, or even intelligence over so many relationship dynamics, plot lines, etc. that I've lost count of. Or her writing, which isn't the most captivating. On the other hand she writes beautiful, alpha, gallant, honourable heroes. Let's not forget that and let's give credit where it's due. Even her heroines are women, who for the most part you root for and side with. It's what she makes them do, and it's how she designs her plot lines that's getting weirder by the minute.
My review's going to contain spoilers so please take note.
So let's review the basics in this novel. Our author, clearly intended to write a second chance love story, peppered with the devices she's so good at writing, and template behaviour from her hero archive. It's ok, we like all that, predictable but different enough at the same time.
So how should the MC's be separated? Fake betrayal? Great! It worked for Faith and Colt. How do we bring that about? We make a highly successful, respectable, sweet, decent 65 year old guy, suggest to the 23 year old heart broken p, wretched heroine that they should marry in order for her to have his sons as brothers and be accepted in a family in a way that her own family never did. And she accepts! And then to sell this to readers as if her actions were anything other than a blatant play for monetary security!! Maybe not in return for sexual favours but still! At least be honest! Don't put a "Nice" spin on everything. I live in a country where up until a few decades ago child brides were sold To old guys in weird arrangements, that is, I have heard many weird and crazy, true life, stories and I still find this plot line as solution for the fake betrayal to be instigated as a disgusting, unbelievable, stupid, insult to the intelligence of a reader. This is not a solution. This is not a plot line. This is an exercise in degradation of the hero, the heroine and all secondary characters. My problem with Kristen Ashley is that she wants the angst but she doesn't want the gory stuff that produce the angst; at the end of the day she wants every thing to be spick and span. She even needs her villains, to be redeemed in subsequent books. The failed love interests in her books are to be shoved to the bosom of future heroes and heroines in order for all lose ends to be tied. So back to this book. She spent 18 years of her life, married to a 65 year old man, for his sons to call her their sister? Why am I the only one who finds this disturbing? Is it ok to shove all the emotional baggage of an arrangement like this under the carpet? Couldn't the guy have mentored her? Offered her job security, an education? Wouldn't that made more sense? Couldn't the misunderstanding be over something else? It also would have rendered her more likeable. I have an impression that in this book even Kristen Ashley herself, feels the utter stupidity of the situation she's created, and tries to have the situation explained either by the protagonists themselves or the secondary characters. I feel that's the primary role of Kathy, to give another point of view to the situation and make people understand. It didn't work. It made things even seem more incredulous. Also, this Patrick guy, who kept an investigator on Coert for 18 odd years so that Cady would know where to find him if she wanted, who tried to divorce Cady so that she could move on with her life, who told her sons that he liked Coert for Cady, never, not even once, thought of approaching Coert to explain the situation to him?!?!?!
I did stop reading after Pat Moreland comes to Coert and tells him the convoluted sob story of Cady's life, to spur Coert into knight in shining armour action. And I'm done. I feel demeaned after subjecting myself to having read even this much of this book, and all her other books which made me feel uncomfortable through the years, and therefore I'm done!
