Read and reviewed for Sarah Conway and DLM Book Tours.
Publication Date 26th September 2022.
This is Sarah Conway's debut novel.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching beautiful cover and intriguing as well as intriguing sounding synopsis and title.
This novel consists of 29 chapters. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Cambridge, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually visited Cambridge so look forward to seeing if I recognise anywhere mentioned.
This book is written in first person perspective with the main protagonist being Tilly. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.
'Hooked' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sarah discusses/includes sexual scenes.
Well, well, well Wow!!! What an absolute cracker of a book!!! This book sucked me straight in from beginning to the fantastic ending. The blog, title and the cover suited the book perfectly.
The storyline was very fast paced and filled with drama, friendship, sex, family, love, fun and everything you could ask for in a sexy fun read!! The first chapter had me hook, line and sinker and gives readers something to sink their teeth and into immediately! A very believable, unique and realistic storyline which I really enjoyed and just could not put down!! I loved that Sarah has written a book about someone who has had to go into the escorting service to pay the bills and actually enjoys her work. Considering it is filled with $ex there isn't any smit if that makes sense. The clients are just everyday people who are mainly after companionship with the added bonus of sexual relationships at the end of the day. The men involved are actually all really nice guys (I never thought I'd say that about a man paying for sex believe me!!!) with decent personalities. The fact that
If you pick this up make sure you clear your diaries as you will NOT be able to put it down until the explosive ending!!! I loved the storyline and just loved everything about it. It was all done perfectly!! This would make an absolutely amazing movie!!!
All of the characters were realistic and had such different and strong personalities and all suited the storyline perfectly. The fact that Tilly chose to go into law just to try and make her family happy and didn't want to do what made her happy is also sadly realistic and something many people to all the time. There is a part in the book where Tilly's friend Fran becomes disgusted at what Tilly does and Tilly compares what Fran does when she has one night stands with strangers to what she is doing after they have an argument and stop talking. Tilly questions the mentality of Fran's argument and it is a fantastic point and is very thought provoking. People look down on people in the escort service but will then go out and sleep with strangers!!! I absolutely loved this argument and it makes the book even better!! I also really enjoyed the ending but would LOVE to see more of Tilly and where her decision takes her!! I found this book funny, sexy, an easy and quick read and thought provoking with an excellent message. It won't be to everybody's taste but I definitely recommend giving it a try!!
I would love to read more books by Sarah Conway and would also love to see this turned into a movie!!!
The characters are all strong and realistic. I loved Tilly who was honest, down to Earth, funny and friendly. She was the perfect character for this book and I would love to see more of her!! I am pleased that she took hold of her life and stuck up for what she believed in! I loved watching her character development throughout the book and watching her go from strength to strength!! I also really liked Brenda who was another lovely woman who cares about Tilly and never pressurised her and looked after her throughout the book. I wasn't a fan of Fran who I found to be judgemental and I didn't trust her at all. Jed was an absolute piece of $h1t who I thought was a disgusting jerk. Regardless of whether you love them or hate them all these characters work perfectly together to make this an absolutely addictive fun read!!
I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting!! This book may not seem like your cup of tea but go in with an open mind and I am sure you will love it as much as I did!!
Well done Sarah on an absolutely page turning success!! This may be the first of your books I have read but it certainly won't be my last!! Here is to your next success 🥂
Overall a funny, sexy, addictive page turner that you won't be able to put down!!

Tilly is in a pickle, she wants to have a career in law but another career is beckoning and seems to be offering cash rich incentives as well as some good old old fashioned fun, which route should she take? And can she cope with both? I liked Tilly and her honesty and the way she realised her life was indeed hers to choose what she did, please or offend, the actual message of the book is suitable for everyone tbh and came across well And yep it is ‘saucy’ in places, that’s the nature of the book but I didn’t think OTT ( although wont be to everyone’s taste ) and the scenes described in Tilly’s own often humorous way Not my usual book at all but it had a deeper message than I expected and was a fun read
From the moment the author reached out to me, I was intrigued by the premise of this book. The idea of a woman who is struggling to make ends meet, finds herself with an opportunity, and seizes the opportunity to become an escort – and discovers an entirely new side to herself in the process… I loved it. I especially loved watching Tilly become more confident.
But I also struggled with this book for a few different reasons. For instance, I think the plot would have done better in a full size novel rather than a novella, because a lot of it felt rushed, and while the character development had a strong arch, the process to get there felt choppy and a bit like whiplash while reading.
For me, it felt like the dialogue was a bit underdeveloped, often shifting tone and topics within the same line. But my main issue was that as much as I wanted to like Tilly and understand her, it felt as though she had little-to-no personality. She had a lot of potential, but there was minimal internal thoughts shared with the reader to truly understand Tilly. Instead, it was mostly narration of events with a couple words here or there of her sometimes reacting to something. In all honesty, the characters with the most personality were side characters.
OH — and despite being a book with a steamy concept, the steamy scenes were only really a 2/5 at most on the spice meter.
This book had a great premise – I loved the idea for it. I just wanted more from it, personally. I do think it’s worth checking out if you like quick reads (I read it in one day) and are interested in the plot description, though. I’m a firm believer in every book existing for a reason – and that sometimes it’s just not for every reader. I don’t think this one was meant for me.
This is a little different from my usual reading but I enjoyed it!
It’s the story of a young woman, Tilly, who is lacking in confidence after a break up with a ‘a real minger,’ Jed. From that point on, she decides to follow an alternative path from fledgling lawyer to professional escort. Hooked is about following your own path, being independent and not being swayed by the opinions of others, overcoming doubts that you aren’t as good as your siblings, or having to prove your self worth to your parents. I appreciated that sentiment.
It tackles various escort scenarios with lightheartedness, and a touch of humour. Most of the character development in that respect is about her escort relationship with Edward, an older man whose wife had died.
On the whole, it portrays the escort business in a positive light. And didn’t move over into more unpleasant territory. Also, it tackles the difficulties of confessing this lifestyle to friends and family. It is an easy and entertaining read.
Recommended for those who enjoy sexy liberating stories.
Thank you to Donna for the blog tour organisation and to the author for a paperback copy which I was pleased to receive. It’s a quick read, which I am happy to review without bias.
Hooked is an erotic contemporary fiction novel by Sarah Conway.
Honestly, I was sceptical about this book going in because of the "future lawyer turned escort" plot point, but it turned out to be a fun read.
Please note that since this is fictional, this is in no way promoting the escort lifestyle, although it is mostly shown in a positive light from Tilly's perspective. It also touches upon the cons of the lifestyle choice, such as rejection by friends and/or family.
While a lot of the book focuses on Tilly's involvement in her new life, I do love her for one thing: that she knows what she wants, even though she knows not everyone will agree with it. She took control of her life the way she wanted to, without anyone infringing on her choices.
This is more of a character-development type of book where we watch Tilly become a changed person. So, I'd love to see what happens next in Tilly's journey as she climbs the ladder because I can only imagine what struggles she would face as a woman in her position. However, I also wish we'd gotten more plot in this book, as there's so much there to peel apart, but we were only given a taste.
Also, more erotica, please! Again, we got a taste, but given the context of this book, I think we deserved more.
It's a fun book to read, but I would recommend that you go into it with an open mind because a lot of readers aren't necessarily going to be happy with the "ethical" accuracy of the book.
Otherwise, it's a great book with a story I think I'm reading for the first time from a different perspective. I enjoyed it a lot, and it's a book you can finish in one sitting because it's only around 200 pages long with short chapters that don't drawl on. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 8.5/10 Melina L.
A debut author with a book that sounded so interesting! I actually started reading this as soon as it arrived through the door.
I found it to be an entertaining read that brightened my day. Tilly is planning a law career but another path in life seems to be looming. This alternative career promises to be a great way to pay the bills and have some fun along the way. Which path will she decide upon? Or can she handle both paths concurrently?
A seemingly light hearted story that does have a deeper message running through it. I was surprised this was a debut to be honest. The writing is so well done and the characters well fleshed out. I loved spending time with Tilly. Her friendship with Fran was lovely to see. In fact, all the characters where memorable for some reason or another. I did feel proud of just how brave Tilly was in some situations and wondered if I could have been as brave!
As you could expect in a story like this there is spice, but it's not too much. It fits in with the story and doesn't come across as gratuitous in any way.
I am eager to see how Tilly gets on in her adventurous life and do hope there will be another instalment! It was that good of a read. Thanks to DLM book tours and Sarah Conway.
Well this is a cracker of a story to open my reading account of 2023. A nice light hearted read with a bit of spice on the side, not too excessive, just right. It has a wonderful cast of characters, and I loved Tilly and her friendship with Fran. Tilly was a lot braver than I think I would have been in some of the situations, but I think it made me respect her all the more. The fact this is a debut novel is a surprise as it's so well written and the characters well developed. I was unable to put it down once I started, and I really hope this isn't going to be the only book as I really want to read more about these characters.
