"Tell yourself something enough times and eventually it becomes the truth."

What a ride! The drama🤌The plot twists🤌
Definitely enjoyed this one.

Holly is set to be married soon, her friends plan a hen weekend getaway in a secluded place. Nothing can go wrong, right? Only that assumption is wrong. Holly soon finds her friends- the bridesmaids have been keeping secrets, telling lies that date decades back. Will she be able to uncover the truth while maintaining their friendship or does she have secrets of her own ready to break them apart?

Honestly, the book kept me on edge. The story is told in three POV- Holly, Claire and Suzanne's. The twists and turns in the book were chef's kiss. It is a pretty fast paced book and you can easily read it in one day (if one has time).

Why I rated it four stars instead of five?
1. The personalities of the bridesmaids (except for Martha) was only the fact that they each had something to hide. Other than that, they were simply bland.
2. The multiple POV could've been executed well. At times I got confused who's POV was I reading. Holly, Claire and Suzanne's personalities were VERY similar. I would've preferred if the author wrote them differently, which would've given the characters more life.
3. It felt like the bridesmaids were never friends.

Is it worth reading?
Yes, absolutely. If you're looking for a short fast paced mystery thriller read, this is it. It will keep you guessing.

With friends like these......

Holly is getting married and she and her best friends are having a hen weekend! Drinking and fun for everyone - except, maybe for the body floating in the pool!

What could have gone wrong? A weekend to party, to relax, to unwind...to murder.

This was a book full of . DRAMA! Seriously, once it got started it didn't let up. These six women all have secrets - some bigger than others -much, much bigger.

The book is told in the here and now and in the past. As the secrets unravel, we learn more through flashbacks to the past and reveals in the present.

I chalk this book up to a fun weekend read. It hit the spot, was entertaining and enjoyable. This would also make a nice airplane book as it can easily be read in one sitting and you won’t grow bored.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Bridesmaids is a fast paced thriller that had one twist after another. What a tangled web we weave. That applies to every character as their lies and past betrayals are revealed. “But lies are hard to hold onto-slippery, malignant things that are difficult to keep under control.” As truths are revealed lives are shattered and friendships are tested. Lies on top of lies kept me intrigued and racing to the twisty conclusion. This is a soapy, entertaining thriller that definitely had me on the edge of my seat. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.

I finished this book in one sitting! Talk about drama. I was beginning to wonder if the women in the book were actually friends the way they treated each other. It was a tad lengthy when it came to the drama but with all the plot twists and an ending I could have never predicted, I couldn’t put it down! Told in alternating chapters you get each character’s perspective.

Holly is getting married and invites a group of her friends on a weekend getaway before she ties the knot. Before the the weekend concludes, one of them ends up dead. All these women are suspects. Each have insane secrets that involve each other. One of them is a killer.

I attended a lovely beach wedding a couple of weeks ago and I'm still all fizzy over the day so when I was looking for something new to read and came across this on Netgalley, my interest was piqued. It's wedding season and I love a good "sequestered group with secrets and it's all going to go off the rails" story so I requested it. The approval came through and I dove in. It was a great time,

It's a party of six plus one on Holly's hen weekend do and seven is not a lucky number for this group. There's a super posh converted barn out in the wilds with all the amenities: luxurious suites, a fabulous kitchen and a spa complete with a pool and sauna. It's all spectacular except for the intermittent Wifi and cellular signals. The rager of a snowstorm adds to the atmosphere and foreboding. There's also the not-so-small matter of secrets within the group. And I don't mean one or two, these ladies have decades of secrets in tow and it comes out in this weekend trip (well, not all of them but the reader gets it all). Drinks are had, jealousies and slights come out, tempers flare, affairs are exposed, there's stuff posted on Instagram and before all is said and done someone's dead.

The story opens with the fact of the body and is told in POV chapters in the hours leading up to it to reveal who it is and whodunit and howdunit. Motive abounds for every character so it made for a good puzzle. I very much enjoyed it. It felt a bit slow in the first third but picked up in the second and finished strongly in the third.

Recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the Advance Reader's Copy.

This is my third book by Victoria Jenkins and a gripping read. First of all, the cover is gorgeous and I loved the premise: six friends enjoying a hen weekend getaway at a remote cabin. But as we learn from the first chapter, by the end of the getaway, someone is dead and one of them is the culprit.

This is the perfect beach thriller: fast-paced with lots of drama and juicy secrets. Surprisingly, where this book fell a bit flat for me were the twists. Victoria Jenkins has a clever way with her writing, of not showing you the full picture and withholding crucial information from the reader. She did it perfectly in The Argument and when the twist came, I was completely blown away. I think my problem with this book was there were so many twists that after a while it became a bit too unbelievable for me. I think it been more surprising and impactful if she had stuck with a few twists rather than letting all the characters have something shocking revealed about them. I did enjoy Holly's final chapter, though.
Overall, not my favorite by this author but still a thoroughly entertaining thriller. I just wish I had connected with the characters more. I think that has definitely played a role in why I didn't love this book as much as I expecting too or why the twists didn't have much of an effect on me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A hen party gone wrong so many ways. Secrets and lies that go back decades will be exposed, creating hurt feelings, pain and so much more. When Holly gets together with several of her closest friends, someone does not make it past the house party. The destination is remote and the tensions between the women rises as each moment passes.

The points of view in this captivating story are all strikingly different - Holly, Suzanne and Claire most notably reveal so much about things that were kept hidden for quite a long time. The past is relevant when it comes to exposing the issues that slowly come to light.

With twist after twist it becomes more than clear that at least one of the women has something to hide. The veracity of the friendship of the women was truly tested in this engaging read by Victoria Jenkins. The drama was never ending and continued to escalate as her latest book came to a shocking ending.

The way this book was written is truly designed to pique one’s attention as the beginning already tells the reader that there will be a body. So it becomes an enjoyable ride as clues as to the killer’s identity start to come together. Like pieces of a puzzle, one by one, each scenario make things clearer and clearer. Very much a locked room setting, we know that at least one of the women is a killer and in true genius style, Ms. Jenkins creates another thrilling story.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

'𝑳𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 - 𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒚, 𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍.'

A brilliantly crafted suspense thriller that revolves around six women and the secrets that threaten to rock the foundations of their friendship.

Holly hopes her hen party would be a chance to relax with her friends and catch up on everything that she has been missing out. But she gets more than she bargained for when the weekend opens up a pandora's box of long-kept secrets, proving that their friendship was, in truth, a farce. And when one of them ends up dead, the women begin to realize that, not only did they not really know each other at all, but now, one among them is a killer, too.

A great round of applause for this author who has concocted a brain-wracking suspense in this fabulous narrative of a hen-party gone wrong. The plot which spans over a period of 38 hours at a converted barn retreat, is revealed through the POVs of three of the six women.  The suspense level of the plot was simply top notch, as I swiveled from one character to the next trying to suss out who the killer was. And my guess still turned out wrong.

It was a bit of a chore to keep track of all the characters, but otherwise, I flew through the pages in record time. The ending was simply fantastic and totally unexpected.

Overall, just unputdownable. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Baby Fluffy Foxes Of The World Unite! 😳😯😳🤯

Holy Skittles! Fluffin' Cannolis! For the love of sugar, spice & things not so nice! Jenkins has always been a master at secret revelations & unreal deceit and yet again, with this novel she has delivered! I'm absolutely astounded how each novel she seems to one-up herself with things I'd never think of. Gasps & jaw drops galore. Thrill, mystery & suspense is definitely not lacking with this gem.
Holly is a month away from getting married and her friends have planned a Hen's Do weekend (Bachelorette Party) at an upscale secluded cottage. Everyone has a secret this weekend - Martha, Suzanne, Zoe, & Toni. And before the weekend is over arguments will be had, threats will be made, & someone will end up dead in the pool. Holly now has to come to the realization one of her bridesmaids is a killer. But is she ready for that?
This book had my mind completely fluffed up. I cannot believe what I just devoured. & don't even get me started on that ending! Another fab book by a great author I always enjoy reading. Now to untwist my mind from this pretzel!

Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for this DARC.

An easy read over the Christmas period, I did enjoy it but it wasn’t a huge thrill for me. A lot of characters introduced quickly, and all complex and in some cases interwoven so there was concentration needed! But I will seek out other books by this author for sure, especially if I need an easy read!

Two days after and I've already completely forgotten all of the characters so they are not so great in terms of personality. The plot? Same old, same old, a usual, if you want to invite someone to your hen party, you probably shouldn't trust them, especially if you both claim to be best friends since birth or something.

Victoria Jenkins is back and this time she offers something a little bit different to what I’ve come to expect from her books. I’ve probably said this a thousand times (and will say it a thousand more if needed), but she’s a master at misdirection in the psychological suspense genre (you seriously need to read The Argument). With The Bridesmaids she delivers a story with more of a locked room mystery vibe, but still plenty of secrets and revelations.

Holly is getting married and to celebrate she goes away to a secluded cottage with six friends for her hen weekend. But all of them are hiding some secrets so, what promised to be a weekend of friendships and fun, soon goes awry when a body is found in the pool.

This was a pretty fast paced read. I’m always up for some drama and here’s lots of it! Most of the characters had lights and shadows, which made them much more interesting. The story is told through the alternating voices of Holly, Claire and Suzanne. The different perspectives got a bit confusing at times as their personalities and voices were a bit too similar.

It soon becomes clear their friendship didn’t have foundations as strong as they believed, as they were mainly built on long kept secrets and lies. There were times I thought “are you sure you’re really friends? If you treat and talk to your friends this way, what will you do to your enemies?!” 😅

The story employs the narrative trick mainly used in this type of stories lately in which the reader knows right from the start that someone dies, but won’t find out who it is until the very end. Although there were lots of revelations, they didn’t come as shocking as in some of her previous books, but still made for a pretty enjoyable read. Certainly there were more pieces to this puzzle than I initially thought!

Quick and easy read that you will devour in a matter of hours, full of drama and juicy secrets that will keep on coming until the last page.

I want to be clear that when I say this is trashy, I mean it with all the love in the world. This is the GOOD trashy. This is the train wreck of hen parties where not only does everything that can go wrong actually go wrong, but it goes wrong in wonderfully horrible ways!

I couldn’t look away.

The best thing was that every last time I swore I knew what someone’s secret would be, it was SO MUCH WORSE! Like, Holy Crap are all these characters the spawn of trash TV villains?

No stuffy highbrow literature here – just munching popcorn and happily reading the next scandalous secret.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Victoria Jenkins' addictive thriller THE BRIDESMAIDS.

"Tell yourself something enough times and eventually it becomes the truth."

Victoria Jenkins weaves another tangled web of secrets, lies and deception revolving around six women all connected by the secrets of the past...and of the present.

Holly has carried a torch for her first love for two decades. Joseph was tragically killed when he and Holly were 18, leaving her to bring up their eighteen month old son Caleb. Now she is marrying Aaron and her closest friends have organised a hens weekend away in a gorgeous converted barn in the remote countryside.

It's the perfect opportunity to relax with her friends and being pampered in the luxurious spa complete with a pool and sauna...and Holly is looking forward to catching up together. But the weekend opens up a pandora's box of secrets and deception, leaving Holly getting more than she bargained for in the face of the friendships she valued and trusted. Friendships that were nothing more than a lie.

Soon the secrets come spilling out from all sides and we begin to wonder is there anyone NOT keeping a secret? Because they all seem intent on keeping them from Holly so as to not spoil her weekend. But then Holly has a secret or two up her own sleeve that she is keeping.

THE BRIDESMAIDS unfolds through the narratives of Holly, Claire and Suzanne both before and after the event. Through each of the alternating narratives the reader wonders who is keeping what secret and who is the body in the pool? Of the six women plus one to venture off on this weekend, which of them doesn't return?

It's a very simple easy read that is quick and entertaining. I devoured it in a matter of hours as it was addictive and the fast pace kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. And boy, did these women weave themselves a tangled web?? Talk about drama! The women were catty, trashy and bitchy and at times I'd wondered if they were indeed friends, the way they treated one another. None of them were particularly likeable. But the twists were delicious, even if I did see them coming.

A quick entertaining read, THE BRIDESMAIDS is the perfect holiday thriller to while away a few hours filled with lots of drama and juicy secrets...and a lot of catty women ready to scratch each others' eyes out. A bit far-fetched maybe, but still a fun read to pass the time. Just pass the popcorn and watch the scandalous secrets unfold.

I would like to thank #VictoriaJenkins, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheBridesmaids in exchange for an honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Bridesmaids' by Victoria Jenkins.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Victoria Jenkins, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 23rd May 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'First Playdate' and 'The New Family' which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us will love this pulse-racing psychological thriller.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Victoria and if this is half as good as 'The Playdate' and 'The New Family' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 31 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 , UK 🇬🇧. I always seem to get on with books that are set in the UK better as I am from Wales and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book as I have had many holidays and days out in England.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Claire, Suzanne and Holly. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

Well, Well, Well I did NOT expect that bombshell of an ending!!!

Wow!!! What a rollercoaster ride of a read!!! Fantastically written with vivid descriptions throughout making me feel like I was in the storyline. The synopsis, title and cover suited the plot perfectly.

I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting!!! I absolutely LOVE the fact it is set during a hen night in an isolated cottage, a creepy and unique setting. The storyline was absolutely gripping and kept me up until the early hours of the morning as I could not put it down!! I was absolutely gobsmacked when everything came out, absolutely explosive twists which I was not expecting!!! A HUGE congratulations to Victoria on that as it is definitely getting harder and harder to shock me but you most definitely did that!!! There were points where my heart was in my throat and I was on the edge of my seat, and then the edge of my bed as I was not putting this book down until I finished!!! I loved that everything was tied up nicely at the end as a pet hate of mine is loose ends and having something mentioned in a book that the author seems to then forget about but absolutely everything was explained by the end of this one. It is rammed with secrets, friendship, family, crime and absolutely everything you could ask for in an explosive psychological thriller! I was absolutely mind blown by some of the secrets that were coming out and just when I thought they had all been told BOOM another shocker!!! The ending was definitely the biggest twist and I would not have seen that one coming in a million years!! This book would make a fantastic movie!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

The characters were all strong, realistic and very well developed. I was completely invested in each and every one of their stories. They all had such unique personalities and I felt different about each of them, liking them or not trusting them for different reasons. It is hard to say much about any of them really without giving anything away so I will go by how I felt before certain announcements were made. My heart completely went out to Holly who seemed to be in the middle of so many friends each hiding something from her. It was meant to be a break for her to relax and have fun before the wedding but it turned into anything but. I wasn't sure what to make of Suzanne but after finding out about how her and a certain someone had to hide the people they were I thought it was extremely sad that we still live in thay type of world where we can't be ourselves. I wasn't a massive fan of Martha and found her to be a show off who liked to flash the cash. Zoe seemed to be very quiet so I didn't really have much of an opinion on her apart from her strange behaviour. I really liked Toni who seemed to be a struggling hard worker while having stress from her daughter Georgia who I really didn't like and thought to be a spoilt brag. Regardless of whether you love or hated the characters they all worked perfectly well to make this a page turning psychological thriller!!

I absolutely loved your book Victoria and congratulations on yet another HUGE success . I cannot wait to read more of what promises to be heart stopping reads. Here's to your next success 🥂.

Overall a heart pounding, page turning, edge of your seat psychological thriller filled with explosive twists that will keep you up late at night.

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Women's Fiction and Psychological Fiction amongst others.

Get ready for a speedy train ride with this story.

How can a few people keep so many secrets when they've been friends for almost all their lives?

Apparently it's possible. And that's exactly what's happening in here. Three longtime friends are taking part in a hen party before one of them gets married. Nothing exciting here apart from the dead body found in the pool the next morning.

There are two timelines that will come together somewhere in the middle of the story.

With each short and quick chapter, we find out new details about these characters and the secrets they keep hidden from one another.

I had my theory of who did it, but the end twist still surprised me.

Some books are made with characters that you can relate to and get close to them. Some are especially intriguing to me because, like in this case, none of these characters are likable and somehow, it still makes the whole story work perfectly.

Twisted and intriguing, The Bridesmaids is another page turner from a favourite author.

Oh, the drama. This was an engaging story to say the least; highly unlikeable characters, dirty secrets, and a little twist to spice up the ending.

The writing style felt a little on the nose; the point-of-views and chapters seemed to meld together in a way that it seemed like the characters all shared the same voice, thoughts, and stream of consciousness.

Annoying writing style aside, it was enjoyable till the end. I was more gripped by the secrets than the curiosity of finding out about the murder, and it was a tad bit expected by the end when the murder finally happened (the perpetrator included). However, the epilogue sealed the deal, I suppose. It was tragic in so many ways, frustrating and utterly cuckoo (pun very much intended).

When a hen weekend.. Turns into a confession session. (with a murder).

Holly is getting married. And in celebration, her friends has organized a hen weekend.
Lovely, isolated place with your best friends? Definitely would be perfect. Or so they thought.

This has been one hell of a ride.
THIS is what you call a thriller. Plot twists all around the corners.
A psychological thriller through and through.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Bridesmaids. I found the multiple timelines distracting and they didn’t really add that much to the story. The ending was kind of an anticlimax to me maybe because of the many stories and the long build up. This would be a great beach read! It’s engaging and a fast read and even though the characters are not likable they were interesting. It was kind of hard to keep everyone and their stories straight at first, but I eventually caught up. If you’re looking for an easy read that isn’t really deep, this is the book for you.

It's Holly's hen party and the celebrations are to be held at a secluded luxury converted barn with an indoor pool, sauna, and spa. Holly and her six mates head for the venue, but Holly gets more than she bargained for. Which, if any of her friends can she trust?

The Bridesmaids alternates between now when a body is found (though the reader doesn't find out who is dead until much later in the book) and the past, gradually bringing things up to the present. The plotting is excellent, and the complex story is intriguing and suspenseful. Themes of jealousy, betrayal, toxicity and deceit are in there. Another winner from Victoria Jenkins.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Yep, another bachelorette party getaway with a group of women who have secrets, agendas, and lies. I quite enjoy these group closed room whodunits, so I was excited to get a copy. It was quite difficult at first to keep who was who straight but once secrets started being uncovered it got easier. However, more and more I despised every single woman. To the point I stopped caring as much about what happened in the story. There were some great unexpected twists but they would have been more explosive had the characters not been so atrocious.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book for me to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: Holly is getting married, but not before a celebration weekend with her closest friends. After a night of arguments, a body is found floating in the swimming pool of their secluded cottage. Holly must face up to the truth – one of her bridesmaids is a killer, but which one?

My Thoughts: The narrators of the story are Suzanne, Holly, and Claire, told from their POV. All 3 of narrators had a similar personality, so at time, this made it a little difficult to keep them straight at times. The story opens up with tragedy and then backdates up to that point. I like this style, makes for an interesting read. The way they treated each other, one would begin to wonder if they were truly friends, then again this is a work of fiction. The characters were well-developed and untrustworthy. There is drama and twists galore. At times, it was hard to put down, you could definitely binge-read this in a sitting. When every woman has something to hide, they all have a motive, well it makes for an interesting read. I recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

I liked the book's cover, and it gave me a mysterious vibe. There were a lot of things going on in the book and in the bridesmaids' lives that is why there was a time I got so confused and mixed up in all the lies and deceit. I was close to DNFing in the first half but I am glad I went through and finished it. Everything wrapped up well in the end.

Gave it 3 stars because all at once there were a lot of things that were going on I did not know where to focus. I never got to digest a secret because another one has exploded right in front of my face without realizing it. I did not think it was realistic enough.. for me. hopefully this does not happen irl..

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bridesmaids? Drugs? Murderers? This book has all that and more in it. You never know what you’re going to get when you get bridesmaids together, truth? Jealousy? If you’re looking for all that in one book, then this would be the book for you.

Wow what a book! I read a lot of psychological thrillers but this one absolutely stands out! Amazing from start to finish. A clever, brilliantly crafted book.

Hen party gone wild….by the end of it someone is going to die and someone is a killer! This story is filled with all the dirty little secrets and mistrust between old friends to make for a compelling read that is hard to put down! Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Note: I received an advanced copy of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley.

Holly is getting married, but not before a celebration weekend with her closest friends. After a night of arguments, a body is found floating in the swimming pool of their secluded cottage. Holly must face up to the truth – one of her bridesmaids is a killer, but which one?

I did end up enjoying this book from a whodunit standpoint. I was able to guess a lot of the supposed 'twists' but it did not make the book any less pleasurable for me to read. The ending threw me a bit, but not because of whose body it was but by the humdrum nature of the ending . . . it was strange.

if i read a messy thriller i’d at least like for it to be messy AND entertaining

2/5 stars

really messy and indistinguishable voices - i found myself waiting for another character to say the current narrative character's name so i could remember who was who and half the time it didn't even happen so like what's the point
ending flopped and didn't keep up the tense pace/foreshadowing
i really thought there was going to be another twist but all of the actual twists just didn't surprise me
ok i'm jaded and what

Thank you to NetGalley and BookOuture for an arc of this book! This book had so many plot twists to a point I was lost on what was going on. I get that everyone had secrets but it felt like too much and I was just lost at some parts.
