Can you keep a secret? ... I'm in love with my best friend.

There are three things you should know about me.
I hate running. No, really. I only run when someone's chasing me, and thankfully that's never happened.
My ideal Friday night includes pizza, The Princess Bride, and dancing with abandon.
And, I'm madly in love with my best friend.
That right there, that's my secret.

Trevor, and I grew up next door to one another. Yes. He's the boy next door. Even now, we rent opposite sides of a duplex, and we work across the aisle from one another at the Corn Corners Tribune. Basically, there isn't a part of my life Trevor hasn't touched. I take that back. Me. He hasn't touched me.

He's made it clear we're in the friend zone and whatever feelings he had for me were a passing thing for him, while mine keep growing like a Chia pet on a humid summer day in the midwest. Unruly, and apparently pointless.

So, now I'm resigned to get Trevor out of my system once and for all.

If only Trevor would see me as more than a friend ... But, unless he shows me otherwise, I'm going to have to do what it takes to move on.

4⭐ for the audiobook.

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, characters in their early 20's, secret feelings, best friends to lovers, next door neighbors, workmates, small town, slow burn, no steamage, sweet

Lexi & Trevor
Holy slow burning me. These two have been bff's for years and each harbor secret feelings towards the other, but are too scared to make a move because they don't want to rock the friend ship, 🤣 so typical friends to lovers trope. They were so in sync with each other and so cute. I really wanted one of them to take a leap sooner than they did, but I enjoyed the journey to the adorable epilogue nonetheless.

Trevor was a cutie patootie that bakes cinnamon rolls!
Lexi's other best friend, Laura, was so fun. I really liked the scavenger hunt she organized for Lexi's 23rd birthday. Mema was a great character too.

This is my first time with this author and I'd like to listen to more of this series.

Narrated by Amy McFadden and Will Damron for 8 hours and 58 minutes. I think they did a fine job.

This book had a lot of potential, however, there was honestly not a lot of substance to it.

I felt like the author was so concerned with making sure that we understood how madly in love they were with each other, that there was little room left for substance. It was mostly just narration of them pining for each other. It got a little repetitive and made for a not so interesting listen/read.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to review this publication.

There is a lot of witty and funny parts in this book that made it really enjoyable. I loved that they were basically together before they were together. Using the app to make her fall for him without knowing it was also a great touch.
Friends to lovers is one of my most favorite tropes so my review may be slightly biased. It’s not a super intellectual read but was still nice.

🌀Synopsis
Lexi and Trevor have been best friends forever. They grew up together and now, as adults, they work together and live in a house together. Basically, they do everything together but they aren’t in a relationship.
In fact, Lexi is trying out a dating app and Trevor’s ex just came back to town. They are trying to pursue other people to forget about how much they actually love each other.
Finally, Trevor gives in and asks Lexi’s friend for help on how to tell her how he feels. They start chatting in the app but when Lexi goes to her sister’s wedding with Trevor she suddenly knows exactly what she wants.

My first in my rom-com clean romance journey and I have so many thoughts! I really enjoyed SOOOO much from this book such as the amazing humor, characters, friend group, town etc. And I can't wait to read more in this series as I think Savannah Scott is an AWESOME author. But in reading this, and starting my clean romance rom-com journey, I think I will find what tropes I enjoy vs the ones I don't. I am wondering if I am just not a friends-to-lovers trope person - either way - I rated this 3.5 stars. Which means, there is a lot about the story I enjoyed but a few things that were not my favorite. See more below! Either way, I think a LOT of ya'll will enjoy these books and I am excited to read the next one!

This story follows Trevor and Lexi who work together, live in the same duplex as neighbors and have been friends since they were young. They each like each other but don't think the other likes them in that way so they keep it secret from one another. Which means no one communicates about their feelings and I think since that is common in a friends to lovers story, I may not be the right person for this book since I don't love that aspect. While the humor of the situations the characters were in made me laugh soooo much and I love how clean this story was, I was just wanting them to get together sooner and talk about their feelings. There are also dates they go on with other people in the story (more Lexi, as Trevor just went on a small meet up with an ex-GF he had but he wouldn't call it a date). Lexi has a dating app that her friends made her so she tries out a few dates here and there but nothing compares to her best friend Trevor. I didn't love the dating parts but I DIED laughing at Trevor out in the bushes at 10:30p.m. after her first one LOL.

Even though I reaaaaallllly wanted them to get together sooner and talk out their feelings, Trevor and Lexi had the best chemistry together and I like the end. Loved the small town vibes too. Can't wait to read the next one!

This was a sweet book with lovable characters. I enjoyed getting to know not only the main characters, but the side characters as well. I thought the romance was so sweet.

My only complaint with this one was the repetition of the main character's thoughts. They repeatedly tell the reader that they don't want to mess up the amazing friendship relationship that they have, that they are madly in love with the other, but don't believe the feelings are mutual, and that their first attempts at moving out of the friend zone didn't work so well.

Normally, the repetition would be enough to put me off a book, but I really wanted to see them get together and there were plenty of humorous bits included that made the story enjoyable as well.

Overall, this was a fun story and I look forward to reading the next in the series. I'm so glad that these stories are being released on audio. I plan to listen to them all.

I listened to the audio narrated by Amy McFadden and Will Damron. I thought they were both wonderful and brought the characters to life. I hope to listen to more of their work.

This is not a Christian romance but the author is. It has a sweet light romantic feel. There is a couple of nice kisses. This was a good story with some fun characters and a lot of witty writing. My low stars was for the long drawn out repetitive beginning. I almost put this book down in utter frustration that nothing was happening. They repeated over and over there unrequited love for each other and that they desperately wanted to touch each other but nothing ever happens. The first half of the book should have been chopped in half. Other then that it was good:}

I hadn’t read anything by Savannah Scott before. But I really enjoyed this one. So I know I’m going to read more by her. I loved the way she wrote her characters in this one. And it was so funny! I laughed out loud several times when I was reading it.

Lexi and Trevor were definitely one of the best parts of this book! I loved the best friend relationship they shared. And it was funny that the reader knew that they’d both like to have more than friendship, but they both thought the other wasn’t interested.

I loved how Lexi ends up forced into making a profile on a dating app. And her dates were hilarious. Lexi discussed them with Trevor afterwards and that was so funny!

I love that the reader gets to see things through both Lexi and Trevor’s eyes. That made the book really balanced. That’s my favorite way to get to read a rom-com.

This book was so funny! I loved it so much.

I don't think Savannah Scott is for me. I felt that the story was a bit juvenile with A LOT of repetition.
So much of the story consists of repeating how Trevor and Lexi is pining for each other and not understanding the most obvious romantic signals ever (Which I kinda understand, because I'm the same, but it gets annoying to read about after a while). I'm sorry but Lexi is f*cking stupid. Trevor tried to kiss her AND ask her out and she's still "oooh but he doesn't like me as more than a friend".

And Trevor "catfishing" Lexi by pretending to be someone else on a dating app? What the f was that? It was so weird. And she didn't even care about him doing it? She just shrugged her shoulders and was like "LET'S KISS".

Also it was so weird how stressed Lexi was being single and childless... at the whopping age of 22. I understand the want to be in a relatioship. But her and her family was so focused on her being behind in life because she wasn't in a serious relationship at 22. This might be a cultural difference my swedish ass don't understand.

Anyway sorry for being salty. It was good enough that I finished it. So It wasn't THAT bad.

Following childhood friends, Lexi and Trevor, this was a really sweet, lighthearted romantic comedy. Despite their eternal crush on each other, missed opportunities and poor timing have kept these two in the friend zone. And now Trevor is forced to witness Lexi attempt online dating ...

I really loved these two characters. Childhood friends, neighbours, AND coworkers, their relationship was solid. I adored their daily routines together. Trevor was incredibly dependable, always available as a support system for Lexi, who was super spunky and fun.

The small-town setting, filled with gossip and meddling, was the perfect touch. This truly was an enjoyable read, but with the conflict only surrounding Lexi and Trevor needing to admit their feelings, I wanted a little more from the story. I definitely want to check out book two, Battleshipped, when released, though!

"You´re perfect, Lex"
"I´m totally not perfect. Not even close"
"You´re perfect for me"

This author!

Sign me up for all of it. All the time!

I’m a SUCKER for a best friend to more story!! And this one did not disappoint!!
While I wish they would’ve gotten together a little sooner (it felt a little drawn out in some places), the journey we took to get there was full of humor, and spark, and chemistry, and bad dates, and a GREAT friendship!

And I think I’m obsessed with this series now after book 1. Thank the Lord there are a ton out so I can binge them! 😆

Savannah Scott is 100% a new favorite & will be an auto-buy from here on!!

What I loved:
- Trevor. Such a good guy. A good friend. Tortured with unrequited love.
- the hilarious and mortifying dating Lexi goes through

What I didnt like:
- just could not get invested. I typically love a best friends-to-lovers trope, but this was terrible. No angst at all. It felt like most of the story was just fluff, no growth between the two MCs.
- Lexi keeps lamenting in many different ways that she is 23 and still single. Girl, there is nothing wrong with being 23 and single! I know I married young, but girls need to realize that not being in a relationship is not the end of your life - especially at 23. You have value on your own without a guy!

If you like a really slow burning love story check out this adorable romcom! The plot kept my interest although it wasn’t high on drama it had a great pace. The setting is great! I felt right at home in small town Ohio! The side characters were amazing too. I was cheering for each of them. The friend group actually felt more realistic than in other books I’ve read. They were close but not over the top and the family wasn’t made to look like nut cases. They actually loved and supported each other. I just appreciate that so much even grandma was done so well. The writers fresh witty voice pulled me in right from the beginning. I laughed out loud so many times and it felt great. I needed this light yet beautiful friends to lovers romance.

First off, I've learned (the hard way) that anything that says "sweet rom-com" on the cover is code for Undercover Christian Romance. Personally, I just cannot stand reading placeholder exclamations like "Sweet baby pickles!" If you don't want to write the real thing, then just don't use it all. Of course, this isn't my genre, nor is an evangelical upbringing my background, so who am I to say? All I know is that in my search for romance books that are not erotica, I now know that these watered down, G rated, Hallmark-like, unrealistically cheesy books are definitely not my thing.

For this book specifically, I just felt like it was really unrealistic for what it's like to be twenty-three years old. Again, I didn't grow up in this culture, but the problem with books like this is that THEY DON'T EVER TOUCH ON THE EVANGELICAL CULTURE so how in the world am I supposed to know where the characters are coming from? The only thing they say is that the characters go to church and the dad blessed the meal at the wedding. So here's me, reading this book in the context of my own life experiences, and it feels to me like it was written by someone who is VERY old fashioned. This isn't how twenty year olds behave!

And I know this is supposed to be a comedy of sorts, but the dates that Lexi went on were such old fashioned stereotypes of characters you might have seen in old movies or on old tv shows. It was not creative nor was it realistic, and it came off as just cheesy and stupid. I get that the author was trying to convey that Lexi wouldn't choose these men over Trevor, but I could think of some funny situations with realistic men that still would have fit the bill.

I did feel the emotion between Lexi and Trevor, and I rooted for them and wanted them to get together. That was the reason I read this book all the way through. I just think that it could have been handled a little differently to make it successful. And this is to the genre as a whole, but if you're going to write a book with evangelical characters where that is CLEARLY their entire background and base in making all their decisions, then maybe talk about it a little in the book. Then as someone who is NOT evangelical, I probably would have understood some of the reasoning behind the decisions.

Clearly, I'm not the target audience. But I feel like I've been kind of suckered into reading these even so. And it's a little frustrating. I gave this 2 stars because the writing itself is decent (except for some weird dialogue near the beginning where the MCs were telling their friends about stuff that happened in the past and read like narration instead of dialogue), and I do like a best friend to lovers trope (even though the lovers part was missing in this particular book lol)

My Thoughts: This was the first book in the Getting Shipped series and I wanted to read them all in order. This was a cute, sweet fun read! I am a huge fan of anything Savannah Scott, I love Indie Romance Authors, you can tell they pour their hearts into each work, not that other authors don’t, it just seems more personal. I just loved Lexi and Trevor, they were authentic and real. With the classic trope of friends to lovers, I continued to root for them to just connect and I knew it would be over. The characters were amazing, well developed, had depth, witty banter, mad chemistry, and creatively done. The author’s writing style was complex, endearing, tense, and just brilliantly done. This was not a steamy romance, it was about a love story in the making, which I adore. I recommend picking this up. The fourth novel in this series, Censorshipped, was just released.

Read if you love:
💫best friends to more
💫childhood friends
💫online dating mishaps
💫missed opportunities
💫slooooooow burn
💫supportive friends and family
💫swoon worthy kisses

Oh, sweet agony! Trevor and Lexi — I don’t think I’ve ever said “oh, come on, guys!” so much while reading a book! 😂 These two just did not want to get on the same page with each other and it made for the sweetest, most agonizing slow burn.

It was really enjoyable finally getting know these two as I’ve met them in Battleshipped and Townshipped. I loved their unique friendship — how they grew up together as neighbors and how now they’re neighbors once again as well as coworkers. I also liked the series of mishaps that continued to put these two in the friend zone. I seriously thought they were never going to get together. Between Trevor’s ex girlfriend showing up and Lexi’s online dating fails, it seemed like every obstacle was in their way. Thank goodness for friends — ahem, Laura.

My favorite moments throughout the book were when it was just Trevor and Lexi doing the things they’ve always done together, like stargazing. You could really see how perfect they were together during those moments. I also loved how much Trevor took care of Lexi especially during the storm. The chemistry was always there and it was so satisfying when these two finally threw caution to the wind and owned up to their feelings. They definitely make you work for that HEA! But as always with Savannah’s stories, this was lighthearted, super sweet, and swoony. I can always count on her for a feel good read! I did listen to the audiobook and the narrators were fantastic!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an advanced audio copy. My thoughts are my own.

This was just okay.

All slow burn and no actual romance.

Because this was friends to lovers we do get to see a lot of their platonic relationship and it is cute enough. But it takes literally the whole book just to get to the part where they finally confess their feelings to one another only to have it fade to black and the book ends with an epilogue of a marriage proposal after only 6 months of dating even though the characters are in their early 20s (23) and agreed to enjoy dating.

I would have liked to have seen the relationship develop after romantic feelings were disclosed. Kind of a let down.

The narration was easy enough to listen to so I will give this series one more try.

This was okay.
Friends to lovers is not one of my favourite tropes, and this one was filled with miscommunications.
Also something I don't fancy.
If you're okay with both of those things, the rest of the story is great.
The characters are entertaining and the plot is pretty stellar.

I finished this because I am NOT a quitter. Not because I enjoyed it, but because I have completion issues.

First and foremost, having a bigger female lead SHOULD NOT SHOULD NOT SHOULD FREAKING NOT equate to the amount of insecurity that bled all over these pages. A diet because she’s on a dating app? WRECKING HER HAIR so MAYBE he’d notice her? Saying her body means another man is “completely out of her league?” COME ON. You can have a bigger female lead and leave all of that out. It was so difficult to move beyond.

Second, if I had to hear her say “he’s my BEST FRIEND!” one more time? Oh my GOD. GIRL, WE KNOW.

Also, waiting almost the entire freaking book (94%) for them to finally figure it out and get together? Absolutely not. No. Not with a book this length. No.

This had so much potential and it totally missed the mark for me.

I will never read from this author again. The writing was immature and the way the characters describe themselves came off like Wattpad. It was choppy at best, practically impossible to read at worst.

Why did no one tell me there was no spice or tension???? I mean Zero, Zilch, Nada, NONE. They kiss once! ONCE! This entire book and there’s nothing, these main characters have the same amount of chemistry as I do with the gum stuck to the bottom of my shoe.

The characters only redeemable traits were that they were kind and loved each other. If this book had an actual start, climax and conclusion I might have liked it but the plot was in scrambles.

This book solidified my thoughts on friends-to-lovers and the miscommunication trope.

This is one of my favorite romance tropes, but sadly I was a bit disappointed with this story. I wanted so badly to fall for this book and these characters, but something was missing for me. The tension between two people who had been fighting their feelings for so long wasn’t there and the angsty moments were few and far between. The spark between Lexi and Trevor dwindled because the pace of the story was too slow for my liking. Overall this book wasn’t for me.

So Much To Like!

There was a lot to like about this book. It was full of fun characters, both friends and family, in a small town. The friends to more was a long road but I loved that once we finally got there, the author gave me a sweet minute to relish in it instead of cutting me off immediately. It really helped my "wrap it up with bow" desires. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I wanted to love this story but I just couldn't. It is clean, there's some humor, it just took too long to get to the romance. Plus, I felt like we didn't need to know a bunch of times where the story was set. They needed to have a conversation much sooner than they did. Finally, the repetition of their thoughts, unrequited love, and angst was just too much.

DNF @ 17%. I like the premise of this and that it's set in Ohio, but the writing is leaving a lot to be desired for me. At one point a character is described as someone who "reeks awesomeness in his sleep." Like, what even is that? I just couldn't read anymore of this one.

Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)

Trevor and Lexi have been best friends for eight years. While Trevor made two failed attempts at romance over the years, Lexi has kept her feelings locked up tight. Now they're both back in their hometown, living next door to each other, and working at the local paper together. It's officially time to either get out of the friend zone or move on. Soon Lexi is roped into trying out online dating and ends up with several failed love connections while Trevor is reunited with an ex-girlfriend who is eager to get back together. But even these prospects can't make them forget their feelings for each other. Can they finally take a chance and pursue a relationship together?

I enjoyed getting my first glimpse of Bordeaux, Ohio with Trevor and Lexi's story. I am always excited to read a friends to lovers story, and it was nice to see that Trevor had actually tried to start a romantic relationship with Lexi in the past. This also helped make his hesitancy to make a move this time more understandable. The inner dialogue of both characters did get a bit repetitive as the story went on, and their self-doubt ended up being the main conflict they had to overcome. Luckily there was still plenty to keep me engaged thanks to all the failed attempts they both made at finding love elsewhere. Lexi had quite a few entertaining dates throughout the book, and I liked seeing Trevor making fun of each guy and getting jealous. I also liked how Trevor's ex-girlfriend was shamelessly throwing herself at him and ruffling Lexi's feathers. Although it took a LONG time for Trevor and Lexi to finally get out of the friend zone, the epilogue was very sweet. I'm actually really excited to read about Rob and Laura in book 2. I think they're going to have a fun second chance romance!

I HAVE ARRIVED

…in Boredeaux (Pronounced Bored Ox)
FINALLY!!!!!

I have basically been meaning to read these books since the first one came out! 🫣
Back at the end of 2021!
I’m so ashamed I took so long to finally read the first book in the series.
But, I have rectified my mistakes… and I am now a proud resident of Boredeaux!

This was such a fun reading experience for a few reasons. One, I lived the majority of my life in the Midwest! All the little quirks of a small town and the Midwestern type anecdotes were so funny to read and relate to! It just felt like home to me! Down to the fact that I call my own Grandma, Mema just without the w!
Two, I read this on audio and it was excellent!!! 👏🏻 This was my first Rom Com in audio and I am so happy I enjoyed it so much!

I absolutely loved Trevor and Lexi! Their whole relationship felt so real. Their friendship was just the perfect basis for a future relationship! You could see how perfect for each other they were (which made it slightly painful at times 😅) and just wanted to hurry them to their HEA!
This definitely has its share angst. And the burn was SLOW but the end was so worth it! Thank goodness for Laura, am I right? Or am I right? Or am I right??

I can’t wait for Laura and Rob’s book next! Which I will also be consuming via audio! 😁

Now for the Extra Things I Loved:
Bored Ox 🐂🤣
Girl’s Night + Trevor
The almost kiss debacle and the almost date debacle 🫣🙈😂😂
Memaw!
The Potatoe Salad incident
Trevor and the GARDEN SHEARS ✂️
All the awful online dates! 😂
Trevor’s date with Meg 🥴
The haiku guy 😅🤣
Shirtless mowing… 😏
Lexi’s dream and then hair fiasco
The mortician and the death puns ☠️
Trevor asking Laura for help! 🥳
The Tornado!!!!! 🌪
Aidan’s Drama Llama and fainting goats 🐐😂
“I’m NOT Bill!” 😂🤣
The kiss!!!

I received an ARC of this book.

I loved this book so much! It is the perfect sweet RomCom to binge read. The characters were so lovable and well developed. I am very much looking forward to the next in this series, BattleShipped.

Friends-to-Lovers trope is not my favorite, but even so, this book still made me fall in love with it. There were so many scenes that I could picture so clearly happening. I also really enjoyed the inner monologues that both main characters expressed throughout the book. I definitely will re-read this book in the future.
