After two years of pensive peace, an investigation points to the use of a Galio super-weapon as the culprit.
The Jarog, Valdivia assists mankind’s march into unknown space. With the galaxy’s most powerful empire nipping at Earth’s borders, First Lieutenant Warder must put every ounce of his skill and luck into stopping the imminent onslaught of his people in the most dangerous mission he’s been given yet.
Join Lance, the S4 and the Manifest Destiny as they explore new worlds. Unknown terrifying life forms will be discovered as they dig into the mystery of a declaration of war.
While the premise of the story is good and it flows fairly well, there are so many inconsistencies in the military “slang” or organizational structure of the unit it’s actually rather distracting. First there are no direct combat units that have a unit SOLELY composed of officers, that all went to OCS together and then serve together. This is so outlandish that I almost stopped after the first book. However, I persevered hoping he would get it right. Next, in one passage, standard military verbiage is used and then the next passage that goes out the window and civilian terms are used, i.e. take point vs take the lead. Next, since when have the Marines NOT been associated with the Navy…and while they may fuss and fight, it is a symbiotic relationship that works. The Marines are NOT part of Space Force. I am a Navy vet and on that point alone I would stand with my Marine buddies to fight that change of relationship. Overall, it was at best entertaining but I would recommend that the author at least read Wikipedia to get some background on the military.
Much better than a lot of endings to series I have read recently. It wasn't dragged out, it was close to perfect Some clever twists towards the end, as the loose ends were tidied up and the squad pretty much come out the other side better than they went in Some of the science is questionable, but given we don't know how it truly works yet, artistic licence can go a long way Overall. Good series, excellent ending. Off to see what else the author has out there
I usually look forward to the 3rd book in the series. I started reading it and thoroughly enjoyed the story. The timing, the characters, the action. The writing was as if you were there and experienced it also. And then The conclusion of the book had a twist that I did not see coming. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This book really upped the stakes for the amazing characters that you find yourself truly invested in! I think that Justin is my favourite character! Well done Ross!
A state of war exists between Earth and Galio. Other than some events that are referenced which have not appeared in the series so far, this is a good book which I recommend.
