pretty much everything i'm looking for in a book like this. nice balance of plot and lots of hot and creative sex scenes. i read a review or two that said it felt a little shallow and sure maybe that's true but what are you really looking for when you pick up a voyeur sex club stepbro kink book lmao

...rounded up because I feel bad, I guess lol. This was okay, but I think it was more of an "it's not you, it's me" situation...
A lot of the qualities which lend themselves to the whole voyeur thing just don't jive all that well with my personal romance tastes. Meaning: partners watching their partners do things with other people and enjoying it. I'm just not really into that and it's super rare that I love books that have that as an element.
So take that for what's it worth.

“You’re at peace, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted for you.”
This type of a book is not one I ever saw myself reading. I’m fine with reading anything and everything, and not a lot makes me squirm, but stepfamily relations make me squirm. Naturally. The ick I had for this was real and I refused to read anything that included this trope for years. I just couldn’t get my head around crossing that familial line into a romantic one.
And I’m not even sure what’s changed. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older and I’m becoming more comfortable experiencing things outside of my comfort zone and experimenting with things that I was previously closed off to, whether that is in books or in my own personal life. I’ve always been an open-minded person, but this trope crosses so many lines.
I’m fine with reading about it now. The ick is still there, but it isn’t thrumming.
So, I can happily say I adored this.
I loved Mia and Garrett. Sara Cate can write chemistry between the love interests so well and their chemistry was palpable. I could feel it.
Man, I had to take breaks in between because things were so intense and my emotions were in overdrive. The same thing also happened when I read Praise and I’m expecting the same thing to happen with the rest of the series. And the way sex kinks are being explored… 😮💨 it’s top tier stuff.
I do love how depression was handled here. I wish we had more sprinkled throughout the story and that more conversations about it were included since Garrett fought it for so long. It felt like it was somewhat glanced over and I would’ve preferred a deep dive into it, since it felt so relatable.
But other than that, this was too good. Too fuckin’ good. This series has become my new obsession.

this was slightly — emphasis on slightly, please — better than the first book(as if it’s hard) hence my two star rating.
but without comparing it to Praise, this is still a bad book that made me cringe a bunch of times. the difference is that it was a little bit more entertaining and there were a few parts that i liked. actually, ‘liked’ is a strong word, let’s just say that there were parts that i didn’t hate with every inch of my being. that’s more than enough.
the main characters, Garrett and Mia, surprinsigly weren’t very annoying and, while i can’t say i loved them, i can’t say i hated them either which is a big thing for me. these two were likeable at times — something that Emerson and Charlotte (from book 1) were not.
they had more chemistry than the couple from the previous book and for that reason the romance was not so bad here. though i also didn’t think it was great given the fact that it’s a taboo love story between two step-siblings and i’m personally not a fan of the step-sibling trope so i keep my distance. if this book wasn’t part of a series, i think i wouldn’t even bother to read it. *of course, that’s my personal taste and i’m not judging, by any means, those who like this trope. just to make it clear!
Garrett and Mia have been step-siblings for 15 years; their parents married when he was 21 and she was 8. see, i don’t mind reading books with age gaps (if it’s not creepy/illegal of course) and what bothered me here was not the 13 year age gap between them — the problem is the fact that he was an adult and she was a kid when they met. even though they didn’t grow up together, that was weird to me. and it was not what i was expecting, i really thought they met when she was an adult or at least when she was in her mid-teens. it would be less weird if it was one of these options.
also, it’s strange how their parents didn’t give a damn that they were having relationship. they were so okay with it and didn’t even fight against it or anything, they were basically like “oh okay, you guys are dating? cool, we support that!” which is obviously super unrealistic and hard to believe. like come on, how do you accept the fact that your kids are dating so easily? where’s the conflict? it just didn’t make sense. even if they aren’t blood related, they have been step-siblings for fifteen years, not fifteen days. it’s such a long time. you’d think their parents would fight at least a little and get mad, but no... they accepted it immediately as if it was something normal. unbelievable.
i don’t regret reading Eyes On Me, but i’m not happy i did, either. to be honest, this was not good book, but i’ve read worse books so... it’s fine i guess. i’m not disappointed as i didn’t have high expectations.

Why is this trying to masquarade as something more when if you remove the sex there's absolutely nothing left?
I stopped a bit after they actually had sex, but this is by no means a slow burn since they get sexual within the first 10% of the book and then have a sex scene every other scene. There's nothing BUT sex, and it would have been fine if this didn't try so hard to be deep
There is absolutely no depth to the characters. There are mentions of the hero having some darkness and dealing with depression, but it's not fleshed out at all. It's just...there.
The heroine is slightly more fleshed out with her conflict about being a cam girl, and the fact that she has some other aspirations besides that, but even that is extremely flimsy.
Other than that, even the stepsibling and age difference conflict is flimsy. It's supposed to be forbidden but I'm not feeling the vibes. They both give in way too quickly. He is a bit more reticent (as he should be since he's the older one) but it's still very much like a trope checklist, not something that gets dwelled on much.
Now that I think about it, this entire book reads like a trope checklist with too much sex to fill the lack of character development.
Oh and by the way there is a lot of pseudo cheating depending how you see it.
Garret pretends to be a customer of Mia's to get her to open up (they do sexual stuff then too), and by the time I stopped reading (at 70ish %) she still didn't know it was him. Considering this, she contined to chat with him while sleeping with Garret and even accepting a gift from him.
The hero also has some weird rhetoric about possessivenes and judging other men for not being ok with their women being a cam girl (probably the author's way of making him ok with her job as a cam girl) but that goes out the window when she tries to make him jealous of other men. That's a bit of an inconsistency.
He doesn't seem to care too much what she does on camera for other men.
Safety: it's fine depending on your definition. He's been celibate for around 10 years and she's a virgin. But he gets off on watching people and she gets off on being watched by others on camera, so for me that sort of negates the first bit since it's still sex 🤷

Here’s the thing. I shouldn’t be rating this. It doesn’t meet my criteria, since I only read 50% of it. I normally only rate if I read at least 80%. However.
I have been wronged. I was out moraled. I can deal with a lot when it comes to taboo romances. Birthday girl? Loved that shit. Age gaps? I can do it. Step siblings? Sure I guess, AS LONG AS THERE ISN’T A SIXTEEN YEAR AGE GAP AND OUR MALE LEAD KNEW HIS LITTLE SISTER SINCE SHE WAS EIGHT. AND SHES A VIRGIN. WHY.
That, I cannot do. And it’s not like they mentioned it once and then let it go. It comes up constantly. It’s a part of the kink of the book. I hated it.
Sadly, the spice is actually good. So I am forced to give it two stars instead of one. Tbh the reason I DNF’d it is because the sex had already basically happened, and now we’re moving into the building of this taboo relationship. I do not want them together, so idk why I’d suffer through the relationship building.

I may need to go back and read Sara Cate's entire backlog. This book is going to stay with me for a while. Yes, it's the voyeur/exhibitionist kink, and all the sex scenes. Yes, they were incredibly hot. But, just like with the previous book, I was surprised by an avalanche of feelings.
Garrett broke me, in a good way.
"He’s not another person in the room…he’s more of an extension of me."
From the start, we know Garrett likes to watch. And we know he has an infuriating stepsister, 13 younger than him, that gets on his nerves. He used to make fun of her, but it wasn't because he was mean. It was just his way of expressing himself around her, of showing her he cared. Because this man cares. He may even care too much about everything, but he goes to great lengths not to show it. Why? Let's just say I absolutely understand him.
"Mia has such a full laugh—full of what, I don’t know. Full of life or something. It’s infectious."
Mia was a pleasant surprise for me too. She's unapologetic and unashamed to be who she is. She knows what she wants, and she owns her life, and her curvy body. She's a camgirl, and she likes to be in control of what people get to see. And yes, she has an annoying stepbrother. Someone she's always been attracted to, drawn to, somehow, but she's never done anything about it.
"Seeing the way people express themselves during sex, the way they move, the way they sound, the way they come. Sex is never the same, no matter who’s doing it."
Garrett is a voyeur, so he enjoys watching other people have sex. It's his thing. One night, he logs onto an app, only to find his stepsister there. Surprised doesn't begin to cut it. And, all of a sudden, she's not that infuriating little brat he knew. She's a woman. A woman he shouldn't want, but does. The question is... what's he going to do about it?
"I’m not mad at him or want to fight with him. I wish I could tell him, in more words than I expressed last night, just how much he means to me."
He could have just logged off, but he just can't. So he starts talking to her, under someone else's name. Another man. He never shows himself, so how would she ever know? And, this way, he can have a bit of her. He can also show a bit more of himself to her, like he's never done with anyone else. But is that enough? It's not, because he craves her. He wants her, and he doesn't know what to do with that feeling.
If only he knew she wants him back, and how much.
"I don��t want her to be sorry. I just want her to be mine."
I loved the small changes in their relationship. The tiny ways in which it evolves. Garrett's protectiveness against Mia's longing for control. Garrett desperately trying not to give in to temptation and Mia showing him how much he should. She wants him, and she's not shy about it. The way they want each other, body and mind. I absolutely loved that.
"In the last two weeks, my stepsister has gone from being the pesky little girl I watched grow up into the only person on the earth that I want to see when I open my eyes in the morning."
Once they give in, and even before they actually have sex, it's hot. It's all about the chemistry and the deep connection they have. Maybe it's about the way they sort of hated each other all those years, and angry sex is great sex. All I know is that I was there for all of it.
"I can show you my sometimes ugly mess of a life and you can show me yours, and it doesn’t scare us away."
In the meantime, Garrett can't stop talking to her with his online avatar. He can't stop himself from wanting to know more, and from telling her more about him. He's hiding more than she knows. And when we're allowed to see what that is, it left tears in my eyes.
He feels undeserving. Broken. It's not that he doesn't love Mia, but maybe she can do better than him. He doesn't realize that none of that matters... when you're with the right person.
"It hits me that the girl I never thought I could be with might have been made for me all along."
Don't think that the taboo aspect of the story has been forgotten. It wasn't. It's there in their thoughts and in their interactions with their family, and as we also get a glimpse into the past. But honestly, it didn't matter to me one bit, because that's eclipsed by everything they are.
It was great seeing Charlotte and Emerson again, and the bond of friendship between Emerson and Garrett.
"I really did try to hide for so long, but you…"
With a smile on my face and his eyes on mine, I reply, "I see you."
I've said it before, and I'll say it a million times. The person who loves you will love all of you, the good times and the bad, the light and the dark, and even whatever kinks. No inhibitions, no barriers. Garrett and Mia embodied that kind of love, and it was special to me.

He wants her, and he doesn't know what to do with that feeling.

I loved the small changes in their relationship. The tiny ways in which it evolves. Garrett's protectiveness against Mia's longing for control. Garrett desperately trying not to give in to temptation and Mia showing him how much he should. She wants him, and she's not shy about it. The way they want each other, body and mind. I absolutely loved that.
"In the last two weeks, my stepsister has gone from being the pesky little girl I watched grow up into the only person on the earth that I want to see when I open my eyes in the morning."
Once they give in, and even before they actually have sex, it's hot. It's all about the chemistry and the deep connection they have. Maybe it's about the way they sort of hated each other all those years, and angry sex is great sex. All I know is that I was there for all of it.
"I can show you my sometimes ugly mess of a life and you can show me yours, and it doesn’t scare us away."
In the meantime, Garrett can't stop talking to her with his online avatar. He can't stop himself from wanting to know more, and from telling her more about him. He's hiding more than she knows. And when we're allowed to see what that is, it left tears in my eyes.
He feels undeserving. Broken. It's not that he doesn't love Mia, but maybe she can do better than him. He doesn't realize that none of that matters... when you're with the right person.
"It hits me that the girl I never thought I could be with might have been made for me all along."
Don't think that the taboo aspect of the story has been forgotten. It wasn't. It's there in their thoughts and in their interactions with their family, and as we also get a glimpse into the past. But honestly, it didn't matter to me one bit, because that's eclipsed by everything they are.
It was great seeing Charlotte and Emerson again, and the bond of friendship between Emerson and Garrett.
"I really did try to hide for so long, but you…"
With a smile on my face and his eyes on mine, I reply, "I see you."
I've said it before, and I'll say it a million times. The person who loves you will love all of you, the good times and the bad, the light and the dark, and even whatever kinks. No inhibitions, no barriers. Garrett and Mia embodied that kind of love, and it was special to me.

Manic depression is no joke. A prime example is Robin Williams, he was one of the funniest, high energy, happy go lucky guys on the planet. It’s seriously, one of the most debilitating chronic illnesses, not just in mental health but in the entire gamut.
This started so kinky but the emotional road we travelled led us to the most intimate place that was both painful and beautiful. God, when we went back ten years, Ms Cate painted a very realistic picture into Garrett’s mind. It was painful to say the least, mortifying and so sad it brought a tear to my eye.
If you’ve ever read my book Prospects, you know I dig a man, straight or not, taking it in the back door. So that was hot!

OOOF, I really enjoyed Praise and was so looking forward to this book😩 usually when I read a 2.5⭐️ book i round up, but this one had me so vexed I just can’t this time
my issues are threefold:
1) for a book about a sex worker, the language around sex work in this book is NOT positive in the least
2) Queerness is not a fetish to titillate straight people. If you’re writing about queer people, don’t exclusively use them as a tool to turn on the straight MCs
3) the hero is a shitty partner until about 92% of the book, and his “big grovel” to make up for his punk ass behavior is *checks notes* public sex with anal play👀 like?!??? HOWWW is that making up for hundreds of pages of shitstain behavior??
I read book one in this series on the flight to WA and while I had some small quibbles with how queerness was portrayed, overall I really enjoyed it & rec’d it to several people. I was so looking forward to reading book two on my flight back home!!! And it sounded like a lot of things that really work for me— age gap, taboo relationship, voyeur/exhibitionist kink, D/s, and the heroine is a cam girl!! Like so much potential
And honestly, Garret didn’t work for me from the beginning— he starts the book with this complaint about 1NS not wanting to get hella kinky with him, and like 1) why are you framing this as “oh poor me, my sexual partners keep telling me no when I want them to do sex acts, I’ve been done so dirty” like people do not ~owe~ you their consent?!? Just bc you want to do something doesn’t mean your partner has to say yes!!! And also 2) kink requires trust, so like not surprising people aren’t down for public sex right out of the gate. Earn it!!!
And honestly, that’s my issue with Garret— he lies to Mia the whole book, he isn’t honest about his feelings, he expects commitment and exclusivity (which is whack when he knows she’s a cam girl, like literally it’s her job!!!) when he refuses to give her either. He’s afraid of commitment and refuses to give Mia any sort of meaningful attachment, claiming they’re “just playing” and all the while he’s pulling a You’ve Got Mail style “I’m messaging you as a secret person while also being someone you know IRL” ruse, except here he fucks her multiple times before she find out the truth, and NOT from him🙄 he does literally ~nothing~ to earn her affection or her trust, and when he fucks up instead of some meaningful grovel, maybe going to therapy and processing his shit and proving to her that he’s ready to commit to her & choose a relationship with her, he……lets her chain him up and massage his prostate? Ah yes, irrefutable proof of reformation and personal growth!!!
And that’s without touching on how EOM portrays sex workers or queer people🤦🏼♀️ tbh I felt iffy about queer rep in Praise (feel free to check out my review) but while book one just gave me weird vibes, this book made me mad. It repeats Praise’s issue of “ooh look your boyfriend is being distant, just use a queer woman to make him jealous!!! wlw is sexy & so good at turning men on🥴” like???? I was uncomfy with it in book one, but at least there Charlie talks about being attracted to her and there’s *some* allusion to her maybe exploring her sexuality? But to use that again & w/out any discussion of queerness really bothered me. The only other queer character of note in this book is Drake, Garret’s best friend who’s known as a “manwhore” and “player” later surprises Garret by being bi/pan👀 so y’know just playing into every stereotype about bi people. And then later there’s this interchange between Mia and Garret:
“Well, we’ve only been open for three months, but we did have a party of five rent the biggest voyeur room a couple weeks ago.”
“Five?”
“Yep. You want to hear the crazy part?”
My eyes widen. “Yes,” I reply eagerly.
“There was only one woman.”
My jaw hangs down again. “Oh my God! Did you watch them?”
He scratches the back of his neck like he’s a little embarrassed. “It was probably the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
I laugh even louder, slapping him on the arm. “You perv!”
“What? It’s literally my job! And why am I a perv if they clearly wanted an audience?”
“I can’t believe you watched four guys rail one chick. That’s crazy!”
First off, he owns a sex club so I hope you already knew he was a perv??? And also the existence of queer men isn’t “crazy”🙄 added to the fact that earlier when he finds out Drake is also attracted to men his response is a wide eyed, shocked thought “well you learn something new every day” just rubbed me the wrong way. If you’re running a sex club that is queer inclusive (which is explicitly stated multiple times in book one!!) this whole behavior around queerness feels, at best, straight centric and somewhat….fetishizing is a little strong….but like a little accurate?
and then of course, there’s the treatment of sex workers. Mia is a cam girl, and while she likes & is empowered by her work (and Garret seems to like it too👀) the way people talk about it is pretty condescending. He says things like “are you excited to flash your tits to creeps on the internet” or “When you come into my club dressed like a prostitute, you better believe I’m going to control you. Your tits are hanging out, Mia.” After watching her masturbate in a voyeur room @ the club he says, “here she is. Somehow making something normally perceived as awkward and vulgar look like a fucking art form. This isn’t a grotesque display of her pussy or something meant to make us feel dirty for watching.” Like a weird fucking thing to say considering your work & her work!!! And like when a friend refers to her as a sex worker (bc she is one!!) he says:
“please don’t say that…. I know there’s no shame, but I mean…how would you feel if it was [your girlfriend]? Flashing her puss—"
“Watch it,” he barks.
“My point exactly.” He rolls his eyes before nodding. “Well, there’s a difference. You just said things between you and Mia are casual. Unless it’s not…”
Like, these are not things someone says about a partner whose work and autonomy they respect👀 especially if he owns a fucking sex club!!! Even some of the things Mia says about sex/sex work run the gamut from bizarre to distasteful— she makes several comments about watching people have sex being weird and uncomfortable, but that’s ~literally~ what she gets paid to do🤦🏼♀️ and when discussing another cam girl, she describes her as “plastic,” not genuine, and an unskilled performer who relies on her body. Idk that just felt like a wildly cruel & judgy thing to say about a sex worker?? And of course, at a certain point Garret decides that while he won’t commit to her, she isn’t allowed to do sex work or even be sexual with anyone but him🙄 but fear not!!! By the end he magically changes his mind and is cool with it despite like 6 scenes where he has a visceral and loud negative reaction to her being remotely sexy with another person!!
Anyways I’m kind of rambling now & it’s two am so I really should go to bed, but this was just such a let down. There’s also a smattering of pretty negative commentary about women (“they’re catty bitches, most women are mean to each other and that’s why Mia doesn’t have women friends”) a weird comment about “skinny shaming” and after what felt like (to me, I could be wrong) a shallow dive into Garret’s depression, the reader is informed that Garret is ready to have a baby w/ Mia bc he’s been on antidepressants x therapy for a year, and also spent that year proving “that he had everything under control” which feels like not a great metric to measure mental health?? Like require control and perfection all the time feels…not great?
There’s also just like a shitty power imbalance the whole book, and literally at no point is it balanced— I don’t have the energy to dive into that rn but it was deeply disappointing to me

This book, this book, THIS BOOK! I don't know what Sara puts in her writing, but I want to bottle it and hold on to it forever. After Praise, I had a high expectation for Eyes on ME, and Sara delivered.
This one follows Garrett and his step-sister, Mia. Mia came in to his life when she was just 8 and he was in his 20's. Although they didn't technically grow up together, any time they were in the same room they didn't get a long. Until one day, Garrett goes searching for some fun watching cam girls and his now 23 year old step sister tis the girl he finds online.
He needs to go find out if this attraction is real, or if it was a one time thing only. Except he doesn't tell Mia he knows her *secret*.
What I loved - GARRETT. My goodness I really enjoyed reading a H that was secretly broken. He has been silently dealing with depression and although he was the fun guy, the people person, inside he felt alone. I really enjoyed seeing an extremely accurate depiction of functional depression with major depression episodes. I also loved getting to see more of the friendship between him and Emerson (MMC from Praise). I thought Garrett was written beautifully and getting to watch him grow and open up was awesome.
Another thing I loved was THE SMUT. Sara can write some dang good smut. This was all types of sexy, voyeurism, exhibitionism, toy play, male booty play and more. This was dangerously hot in the best way.
And finally, I loved how strong Mia was. Was she slightly immature at times? Yep, but she's only 23 and it made sense for her character. But, she was strong in who she was, with her sexuality, and her comfort in front of the camera. I loved that she wasn't afraid of new things. And she wasn't afraid of Garrett's darkness.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I CANNOT wait for the next...

4.5 stars!!! This was SO GOOD! Loved the forbiddenness, the age gap, all very good! Not 100% sure why this one wasn’t a 5 star for me. I just wasn’t completely overwhelmed with how good it was, you know?

This series is in the running for my favorite series of the year, and we are only halfway through. The emotions that Sara Cate evokes... through the physical and emotional connections between the characters... I am so enthralled. I could not put this story down. Mia and Garrett have such a complex relationship. It was so well built and I was lost in their roller coaster ride of a situation.
Garrett is one of our Salacious Club owners and his specialty is voyeurism. One night when he is doing some "research" on some cam girl sights, he comes across a face he is all too familiar with. His 23-year-old stepsister, Mia. He has seen her as childish and annoying in the past and since there is a 15-year age gap between them, they don't have much in common. He can't stop himself from talking to her through a private chat and now he is too curious to make it a one-time thing.

And have no fear... it definitely brings the spice. The kinks and the sexy times are epic. It just made this book work on so many levels for me. I cannot wait to see what the next 2 books bring. There is some great set up for the next relationship and I am very much anticipating how Sara Cate brings it to life.

This series is in the running for my favorite series of the year, and we are only halfway through. The emotions that Sara Cate evokes... through the physical and emotional connections between the characters... I am so enthralled. I could not put this story down. Mia and Garrett have such a complex relationship. It was so well built and I was lost in their roller coaster ride of a situation.
Garrett is one of our Salacious Club owners and his specialty is voyeurism. One night when he is doing some "research" on some cam girl sights, he comes across a face he is all too familiar with. His 23-year-old stepsister, Mia. He has seen her as childish and annoying in the past and since there is a 15-year age gap between them, they don't have much in common. He can't stop himself from talking to her through a private chat and now he is too curious to make it a one-time thing.

Sigh. Nope.
This book has so many nopes:
1. A flimsy plot.
I’d like to call it contrived, but there’s legitimately nothing solid enough here for that word.
2. Superficial characters with no distinguishable personality traits other than voyeur and exhibitionist.
Oh, I guess the male MC likes to run. He has two personality traits. Sad for the girl, though.
3. Insta-love.
He’s legit never noticed her as a beautiful adult woman…UNTIL SUDDENLY. 🙄
4. Dude has known girl since she was 8. He was 21 and she was 8. EIGHT. Absolutely not.
5. It tries to throw mental health struggles in there, but because the character is flat, the entire thing just feels forced.
Annoying. If it had been done well and with a dynamic character, I would’ve been on board. Alas. Just stick with the sex.
6. This is not the same Garrett that was in Praise.
I don’t know who this man is, but he’s clearly an imposter so someone please call the police.
7. Mia is whiny AF.
She also forgives way too easily. Raise your standards, girl. And stop being immature. And stop using the words “flesh” and “belly.” I don’t know why, but they are 0% sexy. “Flesh” reminds me of Hannibal Lecter. “Belly” reminds me of a dog. Stop that.
8. The narration was SO DAMN STUPID.
Especially with Mia. I wanted to slap her most of the time. Also not a fan of the “I can’t be friends with girls because they’re catty” thing. Instant dislike.
I just don’t understand. Praise was perfect. It was sexy, but had depth. There was a great plot and character development. And the tension was 💯. All of that was absent from this book. It was kind of me to give it two stars. SIGHHHHHHH.

Ummm… idk I’m kind of disappointed? Don’t get me wrong, it was hot but why was the first mention of Garrett’s manic depression at 80%? That should have been discussed waaaay earlier. And look.. I get it, she’s an exhibitionist but I didn’t like them coming back together in front of 30+ people!! Nope not me.. fuck and apologize without being on stage in front of strangers first and then go play. That just didn’t sit well with me. Not to mention him being okay with a plug shoved up his ass in front of said strangers! Nah.

I loved this book so much! I didn’t think it could be as good as the first in the series, but it somehow lived up to my high expectations. This book delves into some deeper themes involving mental health, and I absolutely adored how Cate handled this subplot. It’s realistic, but doesn’t overpower the romance plotline and doesn’t drag down the mood too much.

This book was heavy. As usual SC pushes the envelope to the point of discomfort. So. Many. Taboos. If you are taboo-hesitant, this book is not for you. There is the obvious step sibling taboo, then the age gap, then the sex club/cam girl, then she’s a frickin virgin, then public sex and then mental illness. How all that fit into this small book is beyond me, but fit it did...mostly. I liked the complexity of both characters and the growth that they both did throughout the book. The story was good, well paced and was divided into two parts. There was push and pull, withholding of information and lots of emotion and angst.
But couple things: I felt that the parents accepting of the two as a couple was way too easy. I mean, he’s known her since she was eight, they are 13 years apart and she still lives at home with them. The parents’ easy acceptance didn’t ring true, no parents would have been ok with this without some push back and possible anger/worry/disappointment whatever.
Also Garret’s mental illness, for the most part was dealt with and portrayed well up until it was fully revealed. Because was it? Fully revealed I mean. He said wasn't diagnosed so was he bipolar or did he have major depressive disorder? Because they are quite different illnesses in behaviour and treatment. It seemed like he thought he was bipolar but it was actually MDD. It would be VERY DIFFICULT for someone to live as functionally as he seemed to for over ten years without medical help (drugs, therapies) if he truly had bipolar disorder. Running and avoiding relationships and work would not control a major chemical imbalance in his brain. Also in the epilogue Mia said he was on antidepressants. He would not have been on antidepressants if he had bpd, he’s be on lithium because antidepressants do not work on BPD. So not sure what his actual mental health issue was. Maybe the author purposefully wasn’t specific to avoid critical people like me picking it apart (too bad, I did anyway) but I think she should have chosen the illness and researched the treatments and behaviour and been consistent with it. Most people maybe wouldn’t be tripped up by these inconsistencies, but I have a close family member who has BPD and it kind of felt like they were downplaying how severe this illness truly is.
But overall I liked this book quite a lot, it’s a heavy one and it has a lot going on that made me cringe, but sometimes I like that cringey feeling if it’s done well, which it was.
So though this book is definitely not for everyone, I would recommend it to those seeking a heavy, taboo filled read.

Sara Cate is quickly becoming an author that I can’t get enough of and Garrett and Mia’s story may have just sealed the deal on her becoming an immediate one-click list author for me. I honestly don’t know what to say other than I absolutely loved this book. It’s taboo, it’s hot, it’s FUN, and it has a healthy dash of emotions and angst. I just. I think that all you really need to know about this one is in the blurb. Voyeur/exhibitionist kink mixed with step-sibling taboo, and all the fun times and characters that come along with the SPC. If you haven’t started this series I absolutely urge you to do so and preferably in order because they are both worth the read.

I appreciated the representation of a hero with depression, though I would have like to see it discussed earlier and more throughout the book and not just at the last 80% of it.
I did quite like Garrett, but not Mia. For a sex worker, she was quite naive about a lot of things and her attitude of 'I'm not gonna befriend other women because they're catty' is so immature.
I was giving this the benefit of the doubt being a step-sibling romance (aka I thought they didn't grow up together/were already adults when their parents married) but NO. She was 8 (!!!) when he was 21. Quite icky 🥴 And is it just me or did the parents not riot more than they should have when they found out lmao??

This one was super good I loved every second of this couple even the times when I wanted to smack Garrett few times. These two sorts disliked eachother but secretly wanted eachother at first it was Mia who was the first to have w crush and fall head over heels but knew it couldn’t happen so she choose the bratty sassy root making sure those walls were up and we for Garrett he started when he saw her on a cam app.. he did feel guilty for abit but that didn’t stop him for faking a profile and watching his step-sister get naked and play with herself. He loves to watch and now he’s hooked and see if it’s just a faze or he really has some type of feelings for her.

once again in this series, i liked it but didn’t love it :/
i was expecting a bit more “taboo” since this is a step-siblings romance but honestly it was barely mentioned that I forgot for almost the entirety of the book that they were.
I enjoyed seeing the progress of Garrett and how he slowly accepted that he had depression. It’s rare to see it in books & especially from a MMC perspective.
the spice was not bad.
I think I would have like a bit more development from each of their backstory & their dynamics when they were growing up. We got a smallll glimpse at the end but I felt a bit detached from their “hatred” of each other. & I think that would have helped with the forbidden aspect of their relationship bc it didn’t feel “taboo”.
anyways, i really enjoy sara cate’s cate and I definitely want to read more from her. I don’t think I will read the other 2 book from the series just bc they have tropes I dont enjoy & why would I read something I know i might rate bad bc I dont like the tropes already !! I might dive into her backlist bc i heard that some gems were there

So I have to start off by saying the first book in this series 'Praise', unfortunately did nothing for me. But I think it just showcases that its perfectly normal and okay that you might not care for one book by an author and you might absolutely love another, even in the same series. Not every book is for everyone. Even if you love the tropes and themes and the author. And that's okay. I think we forget that often. It's was the character connection for me that made a world of difference between the first book and this one. I couldn't connect with the first books MC's, while Garrett and Mia captivated me right away.
