You don’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’s daughter, or your ex-wife’s best friend. Especially when they’re all the same woman.

Under Brick Callan’s mile-wide chest beats a loyal heart with a few cracks in it. He’s the steadfast, overprotective type. Especially when it comes to the one woman he can never have. It’s a long, complicated history punctuated by fights, friendship, family, and an attraction that strains his iron willpower.

When Remi Ford returns to Mackinac Island in the dead of winter with a secret, Brick makes it his mission to find out what put the shadows in those green eyes. Even if it means breaking down the walls he’s built between them. Even if it means falling for the one girl he’ll never get over.

The free-spirited artist just needs to lay low for a few weeks so she can figure a way out of this nightmare. She’s definitely not staying. Not when the man who broke her teenage heart into splinters keeps showing up at her parents’ dinner table. Remi doesn’t need broody, bearded Brick riding to her rescue…again. Not when it will put them both in danger, costing them much more than their hearts.

Author’s Note: Frenemies-to-lovers. Opposites attract. Slow burn. Girl in danger. Glorious, glorious banter. Fighting as foreplay. Small-town shenanigans. Big, grumpy, pining, overprotective hero. Wild-child, trouble-finding heroine who keeps on pushing the hero’s buttons. Steam Level: Lava. Suspense: Nail-biting. Feels: Big time.

Always love Lucy Score books! She always writes the best grumpy men! Remi & Brick have quite a complicated history that we as the audience had to unravel and the characters had a lot to work through. I appreciate the depth this book had with their complex history. I also loved that this book had great side plots with the reason why Remi came home & Remi's sister's conflict.

And this book takes place in winter so it's a perfect December read! Overall really enjoyed this book, although I've read other Lucy Score books that I've liked more.

“You haunt my every waking moment, Remington. The best thing about this world is that you’re in it.”

why is it always books that have the most dnfs or low ratings that i love? this book is messy and just pure MESSY but i love it. i have a thing for lucy score books, idk why she writes the most stupid boys ever and i love them. it makes zero sense its just a case of mira.

i usually never struggle to pick my opening quote (my fav quote) but i highlighted the shit out of this book i mean i legit LOVED every line and highlighted almost everything so bare with me people. this is going to be the review that i’ll struggle the most because i have so much to say yet i’m still speechless.

i was screaming, crying, shaking, yelling, laughing, crying, and panting throughout this whole book. mind you the first 40 pages were a struggle for me but it feels like a lifetime ago. i honestly expected to hate this book from the first 40 pages but i applaud lucy score for not only giving me a fav book but a couple that i cannot part with.

the sexual tension was to die for. one of the BEST sexual tension books for me. i know many people didn’t like this book bc of all the red flags they heard or read or bla bla. anything said is so out of context bc me just repeating what this book is about would put a normal person off. but goddamn it. i went blind and i FELT.

the last time i felt anything like this was exodus by kate stewart . that says something since that book is my lifeline.

the plot

william “brick” callan III (H), is a cop and a bartender owner living in a small town island. a grump in every way but a teddy bear when it counts.

remi ford (h), a gifted artist that can feel everything in colours. the troublemaker that brights up everyones dark side. returns home after an accident to her small town and to her teenage crush who is older than her by 8 years.

remi, who attracts more trouble than any normal human being has brick to come to her aid at her beck in call. even when they haven’t talked in years. even with tension from their past. even with all things they left unsaid.

as they spend more time together, their feelings blossom again and they just have so much sex (i fucking give up idk how to write reviews ok). sexual tension is through the roof. the drama is so fucking good. that i love miscommunication finally.

as much as i wanna get into explaining the plot and the characters. i dont know how to do that. it’ll just put everyone off. no words can describe how complicated yet uncomplicated this book was.

what you do actually need to know:

- hero and heroine are 8 years apart. they met for the first time when they were 16 and 24. the book is set 14 years later when they are 30 and 38. ugh and before anyone says anything no they didn’t anything until years, so shut up.

- reasons why the hero didn’t date the heroine:
1. he felt like she was too young
2. her mother was the head of the police department and also his boss.
3. heroine dated his brother in highschool
4. he always knew she wanted to get out of the small town and wouldn’t ever settle but he didn’t want to leave
5. he felt like she was using him
6. would only talk to him if she needed protection or sex

- hero was married to heroine’s bff years after the bff and heroine stop talking. hero then divorces the bff. YEARS later heroine and hero reunite.

- both of them struggle with acceptance, they both have trust issues. they BOTH don’t know how to communicate what they feel. they communicated through sex.

- this book is centered on miscommunication. but they communicated everything yet still didn’t trust each other’s words. so basically they communicated but didn’t know what was real what was not.

- this is a slowburn but SMUTTY. i mean smut is legit so fucking hot that it can kill.

the romance

i’m honestly not a hard person to please in books. i just need a dom who spanks his girl. who just can pull my fucking strings.

brick caught my heart and fucking took it with him. i’m so obsessed with this man. i’m also so obsessed with remi. i just wanna have what they have.

frenemies that have 14 years of sexual frustration. they legit touch and i get fireworks. the amount of sexual tension that radiated from them. i cannot i’m so fucking obsessed i’m still panting.

some of the quotes

“The madder he got at her, the harder he got for her. Needing to discipline her was a sickness swimming in his blood.”

“You didn’t call, but I came anyway. That’s the way this works. You will always be my problem.”

“I don’t want to know what you feel like from the inside if you’re just going to pack up and leave. I don’t want to watch you walk away knowing what you taste like between those fucking thighs. I don’t want to say good-bye to you knowing what my come looks like spread over your perfect goddamn tits.”

“You aren’t hearing me, Remi. If I got anywhere near that sweet pussy of yours, I would punish you for making me wait so damn long. I’d discipline you for wanting to leave me. You’re safer if I never touch you. And so am I.”

“Tell me what that one was for,” she whispered.
“What it was for?”
“Tell me what the punishment is for.”
Oh, God. He was a dead man. A fucking dead man.
“That was for smiling at my brother like you should have been smiling at me.”

“There were so many ways he wanted to take her. He wanted to turn her ass pink and then sink between her legs as she came up on her tiptoes to take him. He wanted to fuck her against a wall so she had no escape from his hard thrusts. He wanted her to ride him on the couch, legs spread wide over his lap, his mouth on her breasts.”

“He would make sure she was never alone in the dark again. Never faced an enemy alone. Never without a protector.”

“When Remi’s eager fingers wrapped around his thick shaft, guiding it between her legs, his head fell back against the cushion. The kiss of her core, wet and warm, around his tip sent a fire racing through his body. He was being invited back to heaven.”

“I’ll slap that sweet little ass of yours so hard, every man on this island will hear you scream my name and know you belong to me.”

“Do you feel how much I need you?” he rasped, pressing his erection into her belly.
She nodded, unable to stifle her moan of desire.
“I need you safe even more than I need you naked. That’s how important you are to me.”

“You were made for me, Remington. Don’t ever fucking doubt that.”

“What if I run?”
“I’ll chase you down and bring you back. As many times as it takes.”

“He wanted to devour her. Wanted to bathe in her. He wanted to break her. Again and again, until she was strung so tight he thought she might snap.”

“You wanted to know why I married Audrey? You should be asking why we divorced. Because of you. Your name is the last word I breathe every night. Your face is the one I see when I close my eyes. I couldn’t hide that from her.”

“Baby, I love you so fucking much I can’t breathe unless you’re in the same room.”

“I get off on having the uncontrollable Remington Ford do what I say. But, baby, when we have our clothes on and we’re out in public, if you started playing submissive with me, I’d lose my damn mind. I love your wild side. I love your fearlessness. I love your independence even when it drives me fucking crazy. When you let me take you, when you give yourself to me? There’s nothing more intoxicating in the world than you thinking I’m good enough to surrender to.”

as much as i wanna showcase the quotes most of them are said while they are fucking. and it just feels so out of context so i don’t think they even do this book any justice. just the fact that they always used sex as a way of communication made this book 10 times better for me. it was so raw and heartfelt and just so lustful. the chemistry these two had put my poor heart through so much. its still racing.

i think i'll forever think about this book because it just felt like magic. so beautiful <3.

The island Mackinac. The author depicted it so beautifully that I could imagine it vividly. The people on this island made an impression. Especially Remi, her family and of course Brick.
Brick and Remi go way back. To when she was a teenager. The chemistry between them was already at that time palpable.

When they meet again it’s obvious time hasn’t ruined their chemistry or connection . It’s stronger than ever. They deliver some terrific push and pull game. Testing and teasing one another. Remi is very vocal what she wants from Brick but he’s still holding back. For half the book it was a delicious slow burn. Yes, the back and forth between them got a little repetitive but the tension between them definitely made up for it.

The second half of the book is another matter. I enjoy steam in my books. In fact I need it. Sadly here it just got too much. After Brick finally gave in to Remi it was a lot of them having sex. When they had a conversation it led to sex. When they talked sex had to come up one way or another. I needed more depth. To them as couple especially after that amazing first half book and given the history they share. Sadly I felt it wasn’t present and influenced my overall experience of this story.

Brick was my kind of man. Grumpy and fiercely protective. He also has the dirty talk down. Remi wasn’t my favorite heroine. I can appreciate the uniqueness of her because of her Synesthesia.
So if you’re into friends/enemies to lovers with some suspense and humor then Forever Never is the book for you.

Part of me doesn’t even want to write this review. I’m in a very “what’s the point” place, mentally. But I’m going to say a few things - mostly about me or about my reaction to this book. So take this for whatever it’s worth.

I liked the first 40%. And bc this book is about 1000 pages long - that’s actually a lot to like! The heroine was cute. The hero had that...hero complex thing going on. I wanted to unravel the little mysteries. And I was really rooting for them to get together.

Around 46% the will-they-won’t-they had gone from fun suspense to “oh dear god who cares?” It’s interesting how something can be pushed just a touch too far and suddenly seem annoying and ridiculous.

And speaking of annoying and ridiculous...the sex. It ruined the book for me. I quit at 88% Bc I felt that if I had to read another wet, over the top, awkward sex scene I would just die. This book has the kind of sex that rockets us into the sci fi realm. And it just took over the book. I feel like this book could have been a reasonable length if the aqueous, protracted, acrobatic sex scenes were just trimmed to some normal people slap and tickle.

So let’s sum it up - the sex was like a day at the mud hole - dirty, wet, endless and ridiculous with a lot of monster trucks. The heroine was cool. The hero a good tough guy. They went back. And forth. And back. And forth. And back. And forth. And back. And then forth. Again. (And if you found this annoying DONT READ THE BOOK!)

This is my second book by this author. Both with super great reviews. Both not for me. Although this one really was okay for the first 968 pages or whatever. Or well. Onward and upward.

Firstly, the cover isn't fitting in my opinion. It made me think that it would be a cheap summer / holiday romance and it wouldn’t be my cuppa, but that was not the case. Okay, yeah. It wasn't my cuppa, but it wasn't a sweet holiday romance either. It was darker, more angsty, there was some drama and suspense, and the story took place mainly in winter.

Why have I chosen this book? I always wanted to read some book by this author, but I guess I should have started with another one... This book certainly didn't make a big impression. Even if the writing was good.

Long story short (and in this case it was a really long story), what annoyed me most was, that despite his over the top protectiveness and possessiveness the hero chose his own emotional safety over the heroine's. Repeatedly. Over 12 years actually. He rejected her again and again because he was a big chickenshit, or because he was doing "the right thing" by holding himself to some impossible standard that no one else would.

Originally rated 3* right after reading the book.
I'm lowering the rating after few days to 2.5* because the more I think about it the less I like it and the more I have a feeling I've read a telenovela.

So disappointed!! This book was not safe for me. I hate books like this. How is it romantic when the hero is in love with the heroine but marries someone else?! Not only did he marry someone else but he married her best friend!! After the heroine chases him and begged for him to give them a shot! Ugh, so so disappointed!!! If you like disloyal hero’s and doormat heroines definitely give this book a try! And if you don’t try Lucy’s much better book by a thread!

Spoilers ahead

I had to edit my original thoughts, I didn't even read the blurb before getting this because this is an author I sorta trusted.....but the h having once been with his brother and him having married her best friend is a little too much keeping it in the family for me. The world's a big place there must have been other options man

Ok, this was a good read. It was a 4.5 star read, right up until... well.

SPOILERS. SPOILERS INCOMING. LOOK AWAY! Or read on. Whichever.

************************************************************

So, Remi and Brick finally discuss WHY he has rejected her for a decade, WHY he married her BFF, WHY he made out with her and think they were something then ditched town overnight.

His reason? Because he was convinced she was just like his mother, and didn't want the small town life. Now, mind you, he never actually ASKED her what she wanted. He decided FOR her what her life should look like, and brutally, and repeatedly, rejected her for it. He repeatedly chose his own emotional safety over hers, for years. THEN they finally get together, and he dumps her... rejecting her... AGAIN.... because he still won't ask her what she wants with her life. He just assumes she is like his mother.

Her response? Not to call him on his bullshit, that's for sure. She decides that it is her fault that he feels like she is using him for sex, and would never actually commit to a relationship with him (a relationship he has NEVER once asked her to be in, by the way). So after he screws her into the ground, and walks out of her house telling her that they are over, leaving her naked and on the floor.... she decides the best course of action is to get dressed, go to his house, cook him dinner, and tell him she's going to date him and convince him that he's worthy of her.

Brick's mommy issues got addressed. What was never addressed? The ridiculous amount of rejection and abandonment issues that he gave her, knowingly, over the years.

And.... her BFF Audrey, who KNEW how Remi felt about Brick, married Brick? And Audrey comes back to town and Remi is IMMEDIATELY on bff terms with her again?

What. Just remembering how that went down, I'm dropping this to a 2 star.

The writing was great. I was so into this book. Like, really into this book. Until all of the above happened.

WOW!!!

Intense, sizzling, and hot. Probably the hottest book I've read by this author yet. It went from intense slow burn, with so much longing, teasing, and soulful heart to an amazingly sexy and scorching hot romance.

The cover doesn't do it justice.

Full review to come...

I love Lucy Score’s books, but this book was a mixed bag for me. I truly enjoyed the first half of the book. The setting of Mackinac Island, Brick and Remi’s second chance at love, I truly enjoyed all of the characters and the story. The second half, too much steam, too much drama, and just wasn’t my favorite thing. I especially didn’t like . Overall, I did like this one, but it’s never fun when a book that could have been epic for you just isn’t.

This is the worst LS book I've read, actually it's one of the worst of anyone lately.
Here are the highlights...
CHILDREN, like 8 and 10, are discussing their GENDER identity, naming numerous gender terms that are in mainstream media right now and discussing their own while asking Remi what hers is. It felt very much like the A was forcing their opinion on the reader.
Younger heroine, Remi, by about 8 years it seems. They meet at 16 h and 24 H. There are some flashbacks, but it takes place in the current about 15 years later after meeting.
Brick, the H has a younger brother Spencer that the h dates when they're 16. Remi takes Spencer's V card.
Remi has a friend, Aubrey, Remi tells Brick she thinks Spencer and Aubrey like each other when they break up at 16. Brick, who is apparently really called this for being as dumb as a brick, doesn't pick up on this.
Years later, Brick MARRIES AUBREY, who was Remi's best friend.
This is after years of Remi making advances and Brick pushing her away, even though he supposedly loves her because he thinks he's not good enough and he has "rules" BC she dated his brother, works for her mother now as a cop yada yada. He thinks marrying Aubrey will push Remi away. It does. She no longer talks to Aubrey and leaves the island.
They divorce.
Years go by.
Remi comes back to the island for protection and to hide after her friends husband tries to kill them both.
Hundreds of pages of Brick and Remi back and forth.
I did not see how or WHY they fell in love years ago or why they want one another now. When Brick does start doing nice things, Remi doesn't recognize it. When she comes on to him, he still pushes her away. Tug of war back and forth.
Spencer comes around some.
Then BAM Aubrey shows back up after Brick and Remi start living together and SHE STAYS AT THE HOUSE WITH THEM and starts sleeping with Spencer! Remi immediately forgives her when she shows up and they're besties again! Even though Aubrey admits she married Brick to "win" and hurt Remi.
And of course you have the whole scary villain character and story line Remi is all secretive about. When you don't understand why because there's no way she can handle it on her own. Her moms a cop even! At least tell her what's going on!
Random side characters.
Not well developed.
Felt bouncy.
HATED all the cross sleeping around history, characters all still fine with one another and so on after their histories together.
Basically, it was a mess!

This book was a real struggle for me and I am scratching my head a bit with the high reviews. I guess it's just me? I hated Brick. There, I said it. So help me, he treated her like a child throughout the ENTIRE BOOK! Lecturing her, yelling at her, threatening to punish her, it was so freaking annoying. And he got turned on JUST BY YELLING AT HER. It started to get really annoying that treating her like a child turned him on. Remi was fine in the beginning -- I thought she was an independent and spunky woman, but it didn't take long before she was sitting back and letting Brick take care of everything because only he could save everyone. Oy. Heroines who are seen as weak and who portray themselves that way infuriate me.

They finally had sex, although I STILL don't understand what his problem was. There were ZERO obstacles to them being together, but he still held back. I like a slow burn as much as the next person, but that was ridiculous. Here were two consenting adults and he still made excuses about why they couldn't sleep together. Then when they did start having sex, he wanted her all the damn time, but then he started having doubts about her feelings. So instead of TALKING TO HER, he assumes all she wants is sex, despite the fact that she had been in love with him for YEARS and HE was the one jumping her bones every minute! Yet, she still apologized. WTH?!? Obviously, that part made me mad.

The subplot with the bad guy felt like an afterthought tacked on to add some length to the book. I read just to find out what would happen, but it wasn't that interesting. This book was 543 pages and it could have been shortened by about three hundred pages. Sorry this review is so rough, but I had very strong feelings about it.

This is the first time I don't finish a book by Lucy and the second time I wonder if it was written by the same Lucy of the Blue Moon series, so I guess I have to face the fact that she is not only capable but very good at writing misogynistic crap. I tried, really did, almost reached the 70% mark, but I was starting to feel nauseous and I hate food waste so I just gave up and dropped it.

The book was way too crappy for me to bother listing everything that was wrong with it, so let me just give you some precious quotes that sum it all up:
"I want to use you. I want to ruin you." - Male leading character, trying to charm the female leading character and prove to her how much he loves her.
"You like being my plaything?" - Same jerk, umm, male leading character, sorry.
"I love it when you box me in like this. When you don't give me an escape." - Doormat, erm, female leading character, sorry again. And it's not a cynical comment, she really means it.

So, if you're into spanking, dirty talking, domination, bad porn, overprotective jerks, obsessive idiots, guys one blink away of becoming a psychopath and a girl who's basically a doormat, then, by all means, buy the book, it has everything you're hoping for. Otherwise, don't bother, save yourself the time and money, I didn't and I immensely regret it.

4.5 You Are Worthy Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
Since I have read romance, one of the main conflicts presented is the idea that one of the partners feels they aren't worthy of the other. There is something in the past, maybe not even of their doing that has caused this feeling of not being able to fully love the other person. It can cause so much pain and misunderstandings...and reflects so much of Real Life.

Lucy Score took this concept and gave us the ultimate look at how this feeling can tie up a man for years...how he had a love and need for a woman but always stopped himself from acting on his intense feelings.
On the flip side, the woman causing all of this need and conflict always had feelings for this man but every time something might have finally happened between them...Walls were erected and hurt was inflicted.

Now I am not going to tell you any more about this book because I went into it pretty cold and let me tell you...

DAMN...These two people are combustible, even when there isn't anything happening. All they have to do is look at one another and the heat comes off the kindle. When things finally come together for them, get ready to have a man who knows what he wants and a woman willing to give him everything. Be prepared...these two are intense and very active once the barriers down.

There is more to the story than just this major connection between two people. There is a woman who needs to escape from an abusive relationship, there are families and their pasts, and the dynamics of parents/husbands and wives. There is so much for every reader.

I happened to be captured and into the book from the very beginning, hopefully, you will be too.

Clueless Brick: “AITA?

All I did was over police a woman I was attracted to because I wanted to control her actions at all times. I basically fell in love with her at first sight, which is kind of sketch since I’m 24 and she’s only 16, but I never tried to act on it until everything was legal so nbd. I did promise her we would start a relationship and then fled our hometown instead of talking to her again. Even though she tried to convince me over and over again that she wanted me and wanted my love, I teased her and taunted her for years, but ultimately rejected her completely and repeatedly. I did teach her she was unloveable and really too much to handle through my repeated rejection, but then I got mad at her when she thinks she’s unlovable. Ultimately I decided to marry her best friend to “make her hurt the way I did” and “ruin any chance I had with her” but also now I’m punishing her for not trusting me.

Anyway, what do you think? Am I the asshole or is she? Because I think she’s just using me for sex and maybe, possibly, she might not want to settle down with me but also I’ve never asked her if she would. But she’s just so flighty! You know!?”

Everyone sucks here.

But mostly Brick for doing unforgivable things to push the heroine away and, in my opinion, never making it right or better. Somehow, after leaving Remi broken and used and on the floor, the takeaway is that SHE is using HIM and she has to apologize and convince him she loves him. After an actual lifetime of him pushing her away and hurting her at every turn, he is somehow carrying around a rage boner at HER? Because he has abandonment issues I guess. She has living, breathing rejection trauma from this guy, and I wasn’t convinced that he was sorry or that she was able to forgive him. I think their HEA is sketch.

The good: Lucy is a good writer. Her sex scenes are hot. Her side character development is pretty great, as I was invested in her sister and friend and even the niece and nephew were well developed.

Well I never thought I would ever give a Lucy Score book less then 4 stars but here we are, I really didn’t enjoy this book. In fact, I kind of hated it and I feel AWFUL about it bc I love her books.
I’ll start with what I liked, for the most part I liked the FMC Remi, she’s unique, funny, and brash. I liked the setting, the cute little island town was quaint and the thriller/mystery was also very compelling.
What I didn’t like, I HATED the MMC Brick, what a KNOB! He basically treated her like complete trash for years, projecting all his crap on to her while continuously teasing her and then immediately rejecting her all to then marry her freaking best friend!!! Uhhhh hell no! There was just no coming back from that for me. And then it just seemed he was obsessed with her bc of sex. Miss me with that!
I also hated the sister and her best friend. There seemed to be a theme of crapping all over Remi bc of their insecurities and it’s like no big deal but it definitely should have been.
And then the brother and the ex wife/best friend?!!!! What?!!! Its so incredibly completely icky.

No. Just no.

Bad. Bad. Bad. And I love Lucy’s books. Hanging by a Thread was great, Rock Bottom Girl was charming.

But this book was really terrible for me. Cringy, teeth grinding, skipped pages and pages, even a chapter or two just to get it over with.

Side characters never received any page time because, after 15 years of pining after each other, the few months this book takes place in is mostly page after page of unnecessary sex scenes over and over. 5-6 pages at times!!! Everything is going to shit but all these two care about is getting each other off. All they talk about is getting each other off. With them it’s all sex all the time. No depth. Nothing real. We don’t ever get to see why they fell in love. We only get to see the tug of war between the mains, the emotional abuse, the heroine being an absolute floormat and the hero who is nice to everyone but a complete sex fiend and a possessive asshole - and not in any of the good ways.

It’s a Lucy Score book, so sex is kind of expected, right. Her other books at least had some depth and feel and moments of LOL and stronger heroines who aren’t lame, practically begging for sex constantly, sex puppies who can’t string a thought together because all she can think about is sex. The only conversations as far as I recall, between the H&H were whole they were having sex.

The writing, the main characters, - terrible. Selfish. And the whole “oh Remi you are just the most special girl in the world” and the other female characters hated her for being so special and taking all their shine literally made me want to burn the book. Spare me that bs please.

And what’s this creepy shit about the hero marrying ‘the love of his life’ best friend - ‘just to keep me away from you, Remi’, ‘because I didn’t deserve you Remi’. What a dickkkkk.

At the end we have 4 people who are very close to each other, in an almost incesty vibe - as one happy family.

We have Brick and Remi, the H&H - 15 years ago pining pining crying pining. Then Remi and Spencer, Brick’s younger brother who were high-school sweethearts and took each other’s virginity.

Audrey, Remi’s best friend, who Spencer likes when he and Remi broke up. Brick goes and marries Audrey. Both of them being assholes.

But Brick ends up with Remi and Audrey and Spencer end up together. I mean - keeping it tight there. Practically all of them are family.

One of the worst books I have ever read, a waste of time and money.

Powerful. Thrilling. Magnificent. Breathtaking.
Lucy’s best book yet. Again. The visceral longing Remi and Brick feel for each other is palpable and leaps off the page. What is not clear at first, and brilliantly doled out like breadcrumbs, is what is holding Brick back. The slow burn is enough to make you want to throw your Kindle across the room, but the payoff is HUGE! Well worth the wait! Remi and Brick make you FEEL, and it’s the best thing ever. Sexy doesn’t even begin to cover it. Set on Mackinac Island, this book is not to be missed.

2.75 stars *(I explain at the end)

{what follows is admittedly a rambly one & I probably could do better. Honestly, I’m just ready not to think about this one anymore. So below is more of a reminder to myself why I won’t be rereading this, to air out my grievances…just a smidge 😉 & cut to the chase << might be spoilery, so fyi.}

Before I do that & say anything about this book, Forever Never, let me preface the following by saying I still view Lucy Score as a very talented writer and I still have every intention of reading more of her books. Until proven otherwise, I have a feeling there’s a good possibility Forever Never is just an anomaly. Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like she was trying something here & it just didn’t work…at least for me. I’m most certainly not trying to dissuade anyone from the rest of her books. My previous LS reads were some of the better reads I’ve had this year.

BUT back to this book…

…SO I’m just going to say it…

📌 The “hero” was a pu$$y through most of the first half & in pretty much all of the flashbacks. He’s also a dick majority of the time — so multi talented, isn’t he? 🤦🏻‍♀️— . He rejects the heroine not once, but over & over…AND OVER again. Often it’s not gently either. It may not be publicly, but on more than one occasion, it’s still humiliating nonetheless. All on the grounds of a sorry ass martyr act excuse. Including marrying her hs bff to distance himself from her so he could hide from their feelings & attraction. Then there’s all the bullshit of basically being angry at her for tempting his restraint or not behaving how he thinks is best, & wanting to “punish” her or “teach her a lesson” for it. Not to mention, his frequent sporting of a steel rod in his pants at the slightest provocation in those situations between them. Seriously, he has no more control than a barely pubescent boy over his erections. As if his near constant angry woody was really supposed to be complimentary & solves all problems 😂. I wasn’t even through the first half before those earned my reaction of this >> 🙄 & then this >> 🤦🏻‍♀️. The repetitiveness became so so cringy.

📌 The whole “ special snowflake ” shtick got old fast. I mean I’m all for unique/quirky heroines, but you lose me pretty quick when it crosses into “special snowflake” territory. Especially when others resorted to spiteful behavioral responses to it & blamed her for it. She isn’t a favorite heroine of mine (I’m neither here nor there on her honestly), but WTF! Grow up ppl. She is not responsible for their insecurities. She wasn’t being manipulative or a bully about it either. I cringed so hard when the heroine took it upon herself to apologize to her backstabbing hs bff not only slept with the hero, but married him. WTF! I just can’t with her making up with hero after a pretty damaging fight in the second half like it wasn’t his fault.

📌 Not into the romantic partner musical chairs. Yes, there are exceptions once in awhile, but here’s a big ol’ NOPE.

📌 The “forbidden” elements were never validated. Piling up obstacles that have no real weight is 😴. Seriously, why bother?

📌 dom/sub vibe in the bedroom just isn’t my cuppa. Not critique(so long as both are mutually consenting adults, which they were). Just a preference, or lack thereof one for it, I guess.

📌 Too much smut. If you’ve looked at my GR shelves, you’re probably side-eyeing me 👀. Believe me, I’m there with you reading my own words, but the sheer volume just downplayed the romance & the plot too often in the second half. So much so I actually began skipping parts of the love scenes — if not all together later on. It felt so “wash, rinse & repeat” along with their kink just not being mine. {“hero” is POed at the heroine, instant steel rod in his pants, & they screw, then repeat.}

📌Nothing wrong with a long romance book(I love some of them actually), but here Forever Never specifically, could’ve easily been trimmed 75 pages minimum from the story & it wouldn’t have altered or suffered any.

Now what worked — yes! something worked
📌 Perhaps not the most unpredictable, but the tension of the suspense element was well built up & kept me hanging in there all throughout.

*So 2.75 stars for suspense & although the story wasn’t for me, LS’s writing style is still a pleasing one to read.

"You don’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’s daughter, or your ex-wife’s best friend. Especially when they’re all the same woman."

if this doesn't sum up why I shouldn't buy this book and read it I don't know what does...

Forever Never is officially a favorite for 2021! 6 stars! From the amazing characters to the suspense, this was exciting, entertaining, intense, and all kinds of sexy. There was a phenomenal build as everything unfolded. This was a thrilling read that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Remi and Brick were fantastic! They had a brilliant frenemies vibe happening and I loved the tension, animosity, and verbal sparring. Remi was a wild and creative force of nature. She was in a tough spot, helping a friend, and I loved learning everything that was going on with that mystery. Brick was protective and caring. He had such a strong presence about him and I couldn’t get enough. They had a seriously intense push and pull happening and I could feel the angst and need between them. I loved learning their history from when they were young to adulthood. The more I learned, the more questions I had and read with such a sense of urgency because I couldn't wait to find out everything. There were incredibly sweet moments and I could feel that underlying emotion and heartache. Things felt devastating and painful at times and I had to know why. I loved the back and forth between them and I was filled with so much anticipation for them to get together and it was absolutely worth the wait. This story totally consumed me.

Anticipation is everything so when Remi and Brick finally connect after their killer push and pull with such a sensational build and delicious slow burn, it was scorching hot and cold shower inducing. This is the hottest book I've read from this author to date and honestly, probably one of the hottest books I have ever read. I loved the elements that Remi and Brick touched on when it came to the sexy times as well.

I loved the suspense element and the tension and drama that was created. I loved learning those details, pulling me in bit by bit, making me want more. There was a well-rounded cast of characters from Remi’s parents to Brick’s brother, and her sister, plus so many more. There are wonderful, small-town gossipy folks, tight-knit to the core, that made the town seem like a character of its own. I enjoyed the side stories that were happening and all these great relationships that were intertwined. There were so many great moments and scenes, bonds between different characters, and healing taking place, it was exceptional.

This was an extremely well thought out, in-depth and detailed story, filled with so many layers and amazing character development. I loved the dual POVs and getting to see how Remi and Brick each saw themselves and how other people saw them. I loved them breaking down barriers, opening up, and trusting. It was funny, sweet, emotional, passionate, heartbreaking, and real. I love stories like this, that I can get completely lost in and the world around me fades away. An absolutely brilliant read! 6 stars!

Ugh

Why did he have to marry her BFF?!
Grown ass man making stupid decisions like that

He had ONE job..
Why do authors create cop heroes who fail at their jobs????

Why do authors create heroines who do downright stupid shyte like:
- an asthmatic heroine prone to asthma attacks at the drop of a hat, goes around without her inhaler!!!!!?? Numerous times!
- walk around town KNOWING there’s a violent stalking bad guy about to pounce anytime???

Why is the elephant in the room only dealt with at the end of the book and with absolutely no fanfare - I waited the whole book through for the verbal showdown between the h and ow, but no….that encounter was flatter than a pancake. A total anticlimax. 20 minutes into the sweet chat and they’re besties again.

So many unanswered questions.

He’s intense need, love, admiration, irritation and every other explosive feeling he has for her is what kept me reading.
This man is obsessed to the max.
Very very well written.
Not many authors that I’ve read can capture this level of intensity without it feeling overdone or contrived.

This book is basically about a hero who makes it his life’s mission to push the heroine away because he believes he’s not good enough for her and that she has places to be without him. Heights to reach and dreams to fulfil without him. His whole life revolves around letting her go, yet he can’t help himself when she’s around. The push and pull is exhausting but thrilling.

She’s flighty and sparkling but sad and scared now that she’s back in their small hometown.
She left and made a wonderful life for herself but he has always had her heart.

No cheating, because they weren’t ever together despite the deep connection between them.
He cheats on an emotional level on his wife, marrying her while hankering after the h.
The ow is aware of this. Stupid fool. Obviously the marriage didn’t last long but the H and ow remain friends. Assholes.

So the h is back in town and upset and broken but not telling anyone wth is going on with her life.
They eventuallyyyyyy pull finger, the bad guy comes to town and the confrontation occurs amid all sorts of other silly page-filling nonsense.

Lotsa stuff glossed over but they have a solid hea.

This book was entertaining but 540 pages is too much, there were a lot of rambling and not many chapters going to the point.
Lesser words could be used to convey the message.
